" Nice views pity about the flies and rowdy guests "

Booked 2 weeks at the Sol Mastines during October 09.
The accommodation was good and spacious with a lovely sea view.
The facilities are fine and cater for families. A pity all drinks are served in plastic cups.
Prices in Calas de Mallorca is expensive and the shops cater for the mass tourist market.
The Bus service to nearby resorts and to Palma is good value for money.
However our party of 4 adults and 1 child all became ill during the holiday. The number of flies in the dining room was absolutely disgusting, they managed to crawl over the food especially the cold items such as salads and desserts. We actually stopped eating anything that could not be re-heated in the microwave oven which was provided.
The noise after 1 am was also not acceptable as sound echoed from the pool area and the hotel management was either unable or unwilling to clamp down on noisy and rowdy residents.
I will not recommend this complex as the hygiene, cleanliness and noise left a lot to be desired.

Advice: Calas de Mallorca is a purpose built resort with no soul

Activities: Travelling to other towns by local bus

" Good but unpleasant "

me and my partner stayed at sol mastines.on arrival we got given our key staright away.went down for breakfast the following morning and you couldnt have toast because the bread was stale and you couldnt have cereal because the milk tasted off and creamy.the weather was beautiful and the room was very basic but was ok.the sceneray from our balcony was breath taking.a couple of days in to our stay.the food was getting unbearable to eat flys were everywhere you couldnt eat in peace.some of the food was uncooked and my partner ended up having food poisoning.a few people complained about the flys and the food along with us andthey said they couldnt do anything about it.not much todo except for a few shops and 2 beaches which are quite nice.we went to the pirate adventure show in palma and it was absolutely brilliant.i would recommend the show to anyone.the enternainmet at night was ood and was quite funny.we had to go and eat at a restatrant the last 2 days because the food was a disgrace.hotel was ok but iwould suggest for any1 that stays there to go self catering.would definantly go back to spain but not to stay at any of the sol hotels

" flys and more flys "

We stayed at the sol mastines the better hotel of the 3.. except for all the flys in the restaurant they were everywhere you couldnt eat in peace.. the hotel itself is in a lovely location and has fantastic views.. it has a piano bar which is lovely and quiet in the evening not like the chihuahuas which is like butlins or haven, people get there really early in the evening to keep there tables to watch the entertainment if you can call it that,it was just a load of shouting which you have to sit through for at least 2 hours, before the show starts at 10pm.. not my idea of fun..The mastines was never that busy at the bar so you could get a drink very easy, the rooms are clean.
Only gripe is the people who think they have the right to come back to there rooms at 3am in the moning and decide to have an arguement which then spills out into the corridor and then the rest of there family gets involved. or the ones who come home at 2.45am chatting like its the middle of the day all shouting goodnight to each other and hugging and kissing then go to there room and throw up for a hour..

Advice: not much there

" Fantastic "

I was disapponited when i read the reviews for this holiday and was concidering cancelling. I am now so glad that we went in the end. The hotel is 1 of a complex and has all the things you need to have a great time. They have a indoor swimming pool, 2 outdoor ones a large bar a outdoor bar and snack bar. The food was of a great choice and there was something for everyone to enjoy. They served food right from 7.30am upto 11.00pm with the 3 main meals and 3 lots of snacks in between. I would deffinatly recomment this hotel to people who would enjoy a quiet holiday. The town was a 10 min walk away and had a large variety of shops. There was cultured food in the town as well which had everything from english to indian. The hotel over looks the sea and has a beautiful view from every balcony. The rooms were cleaned every day and the staff were more than helpfull. The rep that we had was called Chris and was provided by Thomas Cook he provided all the information we needed and was on hand to answer any questions we had. The beaches are set between the caves and was a 20 mins walk along the coastal walk which was beautiful. I would most certainly go again. The only downside i though there maybe would have to be that the drinks from the bar was served from plastic glasses. But being in a childcare position as well as managment i could see the health and safety reason for this. Overall one of the best holidays i have been on.

Advice: fantastic

" ignore the negative reviews "

after just returning from a weeks stay here i felt i had to write a review as before i went and read the reviews we thought.. we;ll just make the best from a bad holiday. we booked last minute and got a good deal, didnt really know what to expect, but we were pleasantly suprised. when we arrived we were seen to straight away and had the options of which floor we would like, we were on the 5th floor, the views from the balcony were amazing. the room was basic...but who spends alll there time in a hotel room while there on holiday, but there were very clean, cleaners cleaned everyday, new towels everyday, the maids were very pleasant aswell. food was lovely, somthing for everyone, staff friendly. pool areas were spotless, plenty of beds, activities going on throughout the day.i couldnt fault this holiday at all, infact we booked for next year. if you want a relaxing holiday this is the one for you, i came back home all refreshed with a lovely tan, gorgeous photos, and lots of good memories. some people just moan for the sake of moaning and wouldnt be happy in a palace, its wat you make of it, ideal for families and couples.

Advice: gorgeous views, very relaxing

Activities: chinese restaurant, top class

" Worst Hotel i have ever seen im my life !!! "

Ok so we chose this place beacause it looked really nice from what we had seen on the pictures on the internet but ooo how apperances are discieving . We arrived at the hotel around 12am as the transfer took us 2 hours to reach the hotel from palma airport . We got to the hotel and has to wait at reception for 45minutes beacuse they had not by the looks of it put our reservation in the system properley (we needed 2 dble rooms ). We finally got a room with our friends in The balmoral . Upon entering the room we noticed it was very basic No T.vs No mirrors , 2 plug sockets in the whole intire room , some very dodgy electrics hanging from the wall , Wall lights not working and the floor was dirty and cracked and the fan looked like it hadnt been cleaned EVER and to top it off we had to single beds ! We went on to the balcony to find our friends walking back to reception beacuse there room had 2 single beds and 2 bunk beds . The got chenged into mastines and next morning we moved in to there room . it was big but again basic . would never stay at ANY sol hotel again as the service , Standards and hotel in general was disguisting . Would NOT recommed ! I work at a hotel so i know what the standards should be and this hotel was far from it .

Advice: Very remote

Activities: None because there wasnt anything

" holiday from hell "

this holiday and hotel along with its facilities and entertainment was awful. we arrived at this dump to find the room was appalling not as shown on website we were given a room that had cracks running up the wall , electrical wires hanging out of light sockets , around the bath and shower area was mouldy and also patio doors didn't lock. food wasn't up to much it was repetitive. as far as entertainment goes there was not much going on and finally the hole area didn't have anything to do no there was no night life what so ever not much of shopping area at all. THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING THIS DUMP.

Advice: NOTHING DONT GO THERES THATS ALL

" VFM "

We'll get the worries out the way first.... we were told of a few 'robberies' etc which never seemed to be a real issue (ie. there was never any police and nothing happened to us etc)...
As for the rest of it:
Food was tremendous. Full english every morning (with proper eggs)or a selection of continental things..... Throughout the day there was a huge range of snacks and meals at the various alloted sessions (only 1 - 2 hours at the most between seesions). Personally I loved the seafood; fresh prawns and mussels were tremendous whereas my partner, child and her mother stuck to the more british stuff (steak etc) and were chuffed none the less.
Bar opened at 10am. Needn't say more.
Chiuahuas building was ridiculously busy at night but others were lovely and quiet. We spent most our nights quietly getting drunk n the piano bar in Mastines with the other child-laden families.... everyone was friendly and the bar staff made a fuss of a the kids which was very welcome.
There are more than enough sun loungers although to get a good spot you do need to be about early. Pools were immaculate - think the attendant had OCD. Rooms were spacious, cleaned every day, good fan but no aircon - they were dated like the rest of the hotel but who cares?!?!
Plenty of bars and restaurants and beaches and attractions less than 10mins away.
In other words - dont be too put off by the bad reviews of this place you will find. We found a few and they did put worries in our minds. Worries which were unfounded once we got there.
I wish I took my fishing gear though.
Will more than likely return.
Mojito's in Sinatra's are awesome by the way!!!!!

Advice: Quiet and relaxing.... don't go if you're looking more than that.

Activities: Sinatra's... Mojitos...... in essesnce, the views and typical Spanish aura are just amazing.

" Fantastic!  "

we booked a last minute all inclusive holiday here and then after reading some of the internet reviews were really worried ...no need! yes the rooms are basic, no tv-why would you want one on holiday anyway! no air con...but the ceiling fans have 5 speeds and kept us cool enough in sweltering temperatures! food was fantastic! for breakfast - wide choices of cereals, fruit or the usual cooked breakfast! always 3 types of eggs, and help your self to as much toast & tea as you want! lunch and dinner - different soup daily with fresh bread rolls, always a lovely salad bar with fresh tasty salad, loads of hot choices - lamb chops, pork etc all cooked on a griddle in front of you so you know its fresh and always hot. puddings - always a gatueux, jelly, flan etc as well as unlimited ice cream and sauces!
3 hotels with 2 pools outside the balmoral and 2 outside the Chihuahuas (plus baby pools) always loads of room around them and never a struggle for a sunbed. pool areas cleaned every night and pool every morning so always spotless!
we didnt stay in the hotel for the entertainment as we prefer to wander about. just at the top of the road is a little bar & a big cafe/restaurant as well as several stops or you can wander down to the main square (only a couple of minutes walk) where there are loads of bars, restaurants etc! recomend the irish bar and next door tiffanys (open till 5am) really nice people, always football, soaps etc on tv if you want or the other bars there have singers and shows.
situated on a cliff top with a lovely cliff path around to the left or the right which both lead to beautiful beaches with fantastic views along the walk!
very nice area..no rowdy groups, a lot of couples and families but not over run with kids.
all in all a fantastic holiday - we will be back as quick as we can!

Advice: Fantastic hotel, great views, lovely food, friendly staff, nice area! couldnt fault it

" Not one for us "

Just returned from a 2 week stay at Sol Chihuahas Hotel with my wife, and on first impression we thought this seems ok. But on entering our room,it was very basic with a very small balcolny with a view of houses and the small town. The room had no air con just a ceiling fan which was very noicey. My wife smokes but there were no ashtrays in room so we had to go and buy one. The maids kept the room reletively clean and tidy and were in everyday although we did find a cockroach behind the bin in the bathroom. The food in restaurant is fairly good quite a selection to choose from but only allowed tea or coffee at breakfast machines turned off at other times. Staff watch people coming or going making sure you don't take anything from restaurant, sign above door stating that chef can charge you 6euros for each item. Entertainment not very good, and bar facilities allowing you 2 drinks per person and beer in plastic cups. Queing can be a nightmare. Be also aware this hotel doesn't subscribe to satelite tv, computers always out of service, the majority of staff ok. Getting a bed around either pool is hard unless you are there early and the same 2 drinks per person rule applies at the pool bar which always has a swarm of wasps flying around. Around the town is nice but quite quiet, but try the irish bar o'donnells and pacos next door for a burgar. Some bars offer 2 for 1 drinks like the black bull and sinatra's. A few decent shops and 2 beeches nearby only short walks to each. The little mini train will take you around for 3 euros return and this also takes you to cala domingues beach. There is red buses also that will take you to various parts of the island at reasonable prices. One place we went was the Cueves of Drach a 30minute bus journey at 2.15 euros and 10.50 entrance fee but brilliant and amazing. One added thing is a member of the resteraunt staff was absolutey fantastic but i don't know her name she never stopped working. I just wish i had thanked her for all her hard work

Advice: Quiet but pretty

Activities: Cueves of Drach , must be seen to be beleived

" Awfull hotel "

Having just returned from Sol Mastines Chihuahuas hotel in Callas De Mallorca I have to let anyone know who is thinking of chooing this hotel DO NOT !! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !The hotel is very dated and in desperate need of refurbishment ,the rooms are kept as clean as possible by the very polite cleaning staff but are in a very dilapated state. There is no air con only a ceiling fan which was noisy and useless which made the rooms pretty unbearable to sleep in even with doors open ,in fact we had to drag our mattresses out and sleep on the balcony .
Staff in restaurant and bars are so unhelpfull and appear to take great joy on telling you off for not queing correctly or adhering to there so called standards.
Food was repeated most days but was edible and not too bad ,overall the hotel was so worn it was almost appearing run down and in desperate need of investment.
When I spoke with a duty manager and asked why they were in such a poor state and lack of staff he told me they were a Poor Hotel and could not afford to upgrade or increase staff levels .
I found that the all inclusive drinks stratergy of two( maximum )per visit plastic cups of drinks very de meaning and offensive .
Generally overall I would certainly never return here again .

Advice: Small beaches and nothing to do

Activities: None

" good value for money "

Arrived at Chihuahuas and was told we were staying at the Bolmarole, room was small and had ceiling fan for air con.
Sun beds by pool are locked up on night time. If you dont get up at 7.30am when opened you dont get a bed. We came down to pool at about 9.30am on 1st morning and was unable to get bed, mostly all bed were taken with just towels on, we believe people get up put their towel on the pool beds then go back to sleep in their rooms. This causes fustration.
Food was good for 3* fresh food cooked inform of you for breakfast, dinner and tea. It can get very repatative so for dinne we would have soup and main meal at dinner.
You can only get 2 drinks at a time. They fill the cups with ice so you get very little fluid. We didnit enjoy the alcohol at all vodka too strong and cocktails just like pop, also drink staff speak very little English and sometimes you get drinks you didn't ask for.
There was no reception at balmoral just one security man, this made us not feel safe as doors were open all night and with the recent cases of bombing.
If you wanted to play table tennis you had to go to reception at Chihauhaus to the bats.
lovely beach and shops and bars very near by, Good for families. Entertainment was very good at hotels only thing thay didn't start until 10.00pm
overall enjoyed the holiday few little let downs but good value for money.
