no complaints
just got back after 9 nights in the sol mastines hotel we had agreat time yes the place is a little dated but very clean we were all inclusive and found the food and drink to be of a good standard. The resort is quite small with sandy coves at either end and a few bars and places to eat also the usual shops all selling the same things towels, tee shirts etc .overall its a very scenic resort with not alot happening at nights if you want a nice break in the sun at a reasonable price you wont find a better place
You get what you pay for!
Okay, this is going to sound harsh and I don't mean it too, I promise. If you have children called Ryan, Kaylee or Jordan, you are overweight, loud, like to drink from dusk till dawn, wear Football shirts to dinner and have every available space of your naked body covered in tattoos, then this place is for you! Oh and the men are just as bad. It was actually okay, but I honestly wouldn't go back. I wasn't expecting five star service or surroundings, but I didn't expect to woken up twice (in a 4 nt stay) by drunk people, stumbling along the hall, with no consideration for others. I did expect to have decent food. Hmm, not really. Chips at breakfast? Salads were great, but come on, how many ways can you serve coleslaw with mussels and prawn chips. Yum. Rooms were comfortable, no TV, air con or hairdryer. However I had to call reception on the first night as the pillows were stinking of week old sweat, and it wasn't mine. Had a great view and just so you know, the 8th & 9th floors are the only ones you can smoke in. The hotel, thank the lord, has enforced the smoking ban in public inside places, unlike the rest of Spain. We had all inclusive and it was value for money, although I still never found where the 'snacks' were being served in between the main meal times. I wouldn't call ice cream a snack, but that's all anyone seemed to eat. Would explain the bulging waistlines though! The staff were all polite, except at the -2 pool bar. He never seemed to smile. But then again, he did have to look at overweight, barely covered people all day. If you have walking difficulties, as one my party had, the hotel is a bit higgilty-piggilty. There are only two lifts in the main hotel and you don't call the lift to go up or down (depending which way you want to go) you just call it and HOPE it's going the way you want it too. Not ideal, but hey ho. I have stayed in worse, and it does do what it says on the tin. I overheard some people saying that "this is the best food I've ever eaten!". Well lady, if that's the case, I'd hate to see what you eat back home. Enjoy!
Had a great time
Just returned from the Sol and had a fantastic time, people need to stop moaning about the silliest things and think themselves lucky they are on holiday. Huge room with big balcony overlooking the sea. Two big swimming pools with pool bars. Restaurant great, could not fault at all, wide range of hot and cold food catering for everyone. Calas quite quiet resort but bus stops right outside the hotel taking guests to other resorts. Only down point was the entertainment, but then at least there was some. Entertainment was very outdated and not for us, but then many people seemed to love it so you cant keep everyone happy all the time. Overall great holiday, would highly recommend and for the £200 each we paid for flight and all inclusive very worth it
Fantanstic value for money
second stay in this lovely resort. travelled wtih elderly parent and her friend, my husband and twenty six year old son. all of us enjoyed the holiday, the hotel was clean, food was great, there was no food outside, which stopped the infestaion of insects and birds. staff were friendly and worked hard. The bar staff were fab. All staff made a fuss of my mum and her friend, especially the bar staff, the animation team were great, my son went out with them every night, he had a ball. he intended to play golf with his dad, but this turned out to be very expensive, the recepion staff even rang a local course for us to get all the prices. the hotel is slightly dated, but it is clean and the views are to die for. thanks for making a family holiday relaxing and enjoyable.
great for a relaxin holiday!
I stayed here for 4 nights with 2 friends. transfers frm airport was quite long. booked a triple room, we got one with sea view on the 4th floor which was very nice. room was good size, very basic, no TV, no air conditionin but had a ceilin fan. we wer on a all inclusive package, most drinks wer included in the package, and the food on offer was very reasonable, if ur not picky. the hotel is by the sea, theyre 2 beaches within a 15-20minute walkin distance along the coastline walkin, or u can take the calas express which cost 3.50EUR which takes u to the bigger size beach, the stop is jst outside the hotel. this hotel is popular with families with children as ther are plenty of activities for the children. relaxin for the adults, entertainment at the bar every night. easy reach of the centre commercial, with the local bar/pubs. overall i enjoyed my experience here, as i wanted a relaxin quiet holiday, which i got.
majorca hols
may 13th just got back from hols at mastines calas de majorca ,had read reviews which had been good didnt know which hotel we would get .only 1 reception at chiawawa then short walk to mastines when we walked in it stunk of damp but looked ok ,rooms quite big 5th floor fantastic view we were at bak of hotel ,room very dated though ,went down for dinner good choice available ,and that was every day so no complaints .had to go to other hotel for drinks and entertainment which was a pain . hotel was always full when we got there only 2 serving on bar queue was big god help u in peak season entertainment quite good . nice pools plenty loungers pool bar same 1 serving .not much there mind nothing to spend money on few shops and pubs about 1 mile walk , walked past balmoral hotel plesed i wasnt in there is all i can say .bus stop outside hotel went to porto cristo lovely there good beach take a towel stay the day .loads of oter places to go. 4 adults and toddler .would go again brilliant for money it cost.
Lovely quiet location with amazing views
The hotel itself is dated but it is clean, the staff are friendly and is in a lovely quiet resort. There was a large variety of food available, which was of good quality but did get repetitive over the week we stayed. Even though this was the case there was always something different to try. The staff are excellent, the hotel is clean and the entertainment is good for young families. The hotel is on the quieter west side of the island but is still only an hour away to Palma via car making it a good location to explore the island from.
Stunning location,excellent value for money
We've just returned from a week at this resort & couldn't really fault it. After reading some very poor reviews we had some concerns but when we arrived these were soon dispelled. This resort consists of 3 hotels, the Mastines, the Chihuahuas & the Balmoral. We actually stayed in the Mastines, the Chihuahuas is very similar but the Balmoral was closed so we didn't get the opportunity to have a look around it! These hotels are qutie dated ( I did expect to see Judith Chalmers reviewing it for Wish You Were Here 1975!!) They have made an effort to brighten them up but there is lots of dark wood & dark marble flooring. Our room was a very good size with a nice sized bathroom & balcony with views over the pool area & out to sea.Again, this was quite dated but it had a comfortable bed, very good shower and was nice & clean so it did exactly what we wanted it to do! The food was good in the restaurant, there was always plenty to choose from & you'd be very hard pushed not to find something you like. One thing that did put a bit of a dampener on our week was the arrival of about 200(!) Spanish pensioners, forget everything you've heard about Germans & Russians, these people were the rudest, loudest & most obnoxious I've ever had the misfortune to come into contact with! They would literally push you out of the way at the buffet, would congregate in the hallways & stairs & not let you through & also seemed to be constantly shouting at each other. Thank God they were only there from Friday night to Sunday afternoon! The bars were good, although service could sometime take some time when they were busy, this could easily be remedied if they served pints instead of the tiny plastic glasses they insist on using! The entertainment was good, although the "childrens disco" at the beginning of every night did start to get a little repetitive after the 4th night! The main shows were typical "holiday camp" fare (magic show, mini "circus" that sort of thing!) although I strongly recommend the Fantasia show, even I was impressed & I don't usually go for that sort of thing! Now the good & bad points! GOOD: The cliftop location is stunning The room was a very good size The staff are,for the most part, very friendly & efficient The quality & choice of the food The cleanliness of the entire resort The general ambience of the resort is relaxed & pleasant The proximity to the "town" centre (a 10 minute walk) BAD: It is very dated The queues when it got busy could sometimes be a little frustrating The small "glasses" in the bars, the queues would be much smaller if they served larger measures & you didn't have to go up every 5 minutes No TV in the rooms, first time I've ever come across that! No tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms, again a first for me! Food was sometimes a little cold, you have to get your timing right! All in all this holiday was amazing value for money, the hotel & surroundings were clean & tidy, the room was a very good size & the food was good. We couldn't have got half board in Skegness for a week for the price we paid for this! As long as you don't expect 5 star luxury for a 3 star price you won't be disappointed with this resort, just beware the Spanish pensioners!!!!!
It was FANTASTIC
I have just returned from a weeks stay at this hotel. I was put off by some of the review I had read but it was FANTASTIC. We went All Inclusive and there was food available from 7:30 in the morning until 11:00 at night. For the main meals there was always a huge selection to choose from/ For Lunch and Dinner this always consisted or various wonderful salads, cooked meat and cheese, meat, potatoes and veg, fish and always somethng to go with chips. The Staff were helpful (apart from Reception staff who could appear sullen) but the bar staff were always funny and the Entertainement staff are just nuts! There are various kids clubs aimed at different age groups. They arrange various activities for the adults such as shooting and archery in the morning and more sedate activities such as shuffle board and darts in the afternoon, although everyone is encouraged to take part and no one is expected to take it too seriously. The entertainment staff also put on a show every night which always starts with a kids mini disco. Don't miss Fantasia night. There is a small but loverly beach about 10 minutes walk away but the waves can be quite strong so no that good for swimming. The down side of this hotel is that the resort is quite small and quite. If you do not want to stay in the hotel there is not much to do in the resort. We hired a car for a couple of days and with the island being so small we got to see quite a bit. Most guests at the hotel just used the local bus to get around and all said it was eay and affordable. I had read on the internet that every room had a sea view. This is not the case and you will need to ask for one. It is well worth it! The resort is also a good 1.5 to 2 hours away from the airport so it does feel like forever before you arrive. They were not quick at getting the bags off the plane either. In all it was a really good, relaxing holiday.
Loved it!!
We have just got back from a weeks holiday in Sol Hotel Chihuahuas and we loved every minute of it. I have got to admit I was a little concerned before we arrived after reading some of the reviews posted last year however we were very pleasantly surprised. Firstly, yes I agree that the holiday is a little outdated but it is spotlessly clean. We were all inclusive and for the price we could not fault it. Obviously your not going to get a la carte food in a 3* hotel but for what it was it was lovely. The entertainment team also work very hard and are friendly, we were encouraged to take part in the entertainment which was fun. We were regulars on stage by the end of the week. The beach is about a 10 minute walk along a coastal walkway which, when you get there, is small but beautiful. Gorgeous white sand and turquoise sea. There is also a little shopping complex about 10 minutes walk away there is a mini golf course in there and a few bars/restaurants if you fancy getting out of the hotel for a while. I would definately recommend this hotel. But remember it is only a 3* so your not going to get 4* accomodation.
