we just got back, having stayed for 10 days (we're two belgians by the way). got this hotel at a "promo" price, were desperate for some sun and booked it 3 days before departure... wish we had looked into it some more... the rooms weren't clean, towels were changed every 3 days, there was mould on the bathroom window, the shower was really small, the food was the worst though... at breakfast all we could have was bread or basic cornflakes, with either jam (sticky syrup :s), cheese or sausage. it was the same every single day, very boring... at one time, the milk was even sour! the evening meals were very poorly cooked as well... no taste, every thing was cooked with tomato sauce and everyday we were either served carrots, peas or peas and carrots together... the food was cold most of the time. No, I wouldn't recommand this hotel, next time, I'll gladly pay an extra 200 euros (however we did already pay 750 per person, flight, tax and insurance included)... If you want my advice, stay away from the palladion hotel!!!!
german dominated

We have just come from staying at the hotel , very basic , we had 3 people in our room so we had 3 camp beds,a needed air con for free especially, you can only use this on a payable basis and can only use this when windows and doors are shut, at 30 degrees in the night it was stupid and took a long time to cool the room, i was over run with ants and no help from reception had to go out and buy sprays myself, very quiet no entertainment at night time, and not catered for children, food very poor , catered more for germans but there is help available , opposite the hotel is the resturant the "white lady" were the food is terrific and caters for everyone, in the night time ,bars and entertainment around resort if your looking for a quiet hotel this is the one for you.
Lovely and relaxed!

From reading some of the previous reviews, I was rather sceptical of the hotel once booking it. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived there! The brochure clearly showed that it was basic accommodation, however I found the rooms had everything I needed for my stay there. I stayed B&B and true, it was basic and targeted at the Germans, however it's what you get in Greece! I was in no way expecting a fry up every morning (I can't stand Brits who DO expect that!), I expected the bread, jam, eggs etc, and thats what I got. But anyway, the many restaurants round and about can more than cater for those who aren't satisfied, and the pool bar serves lovely food all day. The staff were really friendly, and were English speaking. For me, the highlight of the hotel is the pool area. It's a good size, and gets the sun ALL day long! I found that the hotel was German dominated whilst I was there, but I found that quite refreshing, as it was a lot quieter during the day (despite the whole 'sunbed' myth associated with Germans, me and my boyfriend had the same sunbeds for the whole two weeks!) This hotel is perfect for couples, as it has a relaxed atmosphere (something we were looking for). For anyone who is looking for the same kind of holiday, I would recommend it! (Restaurants I recommend...'Remember' and the 'White Lady'...brilliant!)
fantastic

i went to the palldion hotel at the end of july 2004 before i left i read about the reviews and dreaded going to this hotel . but the food was excellent and the bar staff george and costa were very friendly to all customers , all i can say about this hotel is fantastic and i'm going again next year.
Nice place, shame about the grub

Just got back from Crete, having bought a late saver deal through Manos we only knew we were going to Rethymnon. We arrived very late at the hotel where we found the staff typically Greek, very friendly, the room was very clean with everything we needed. The breakfast the following morning was a bit basic, but sufficient to start the day, my wife was disappointed to find no yoghourt or honey though. The evening meal was the biggest disapointment, poorly cooked, poor choice, a real let down, however as we had paid less than half the brochure price we ate out every evening and found some real stars (Chryssoulis just round the corner was the best!) We found the hotel was faultless, the staff terrific, so friendly, but it is such a shame that the food is so bad as it undermines all their hard work and the memory most people will leave with is the poor food and not a great holiday.
A Brilliant Stay

Well after reading the reviews it was with some worry that we arrived into the palladion, all i can say is we had nothing to worry about, the hotel is fantasic, all the staff are excellent, including the biggest flirt who works behind the bar, yes the food choice is limited but when you dont have a large budget to start with what can u expect, dunno about catering to germans as most of us were from britain, give it a try you may be pleasently suprised, i was and am going back next year.
Not up to scratch
from A TripAdvisor Member
My partner and I were looking forward to a nice peaceful break, instead all we got was an infested bathroom, unhelpful staff and representatives from Manos. Most of the holiday was bearable but the thing that effected us the most was that the 'foo'd we received was cold and basically unedible, one of the meals was had by a beetle that was still alive wondering around my plate. We will never travel with Manos again and certainly never stay at this 'hotel' again.
Plesently Suppriseda

Totally agree with the previous accounts. The food for the Half Board basis was very poor. basic breakfast, poor choice and quality in the evening. Suggest that the hotel provided a facitity for free drings in the evening (as breakfast) instead of being forced to purchase drinks from the bar. Staff extremely friendly and helpfull, hotel and pool very clean. Rooms are fine although air conditioning is an extra which goes off when you remove your key. Food and drinks purchased from the bar are a more expensive than surrounding Hotels/Taverna's. There are only 11 rooms out of 79 allocated to British guests the rest are for Germans!!
Nothing but Praise . . .

A family run hotel by brothers Yorgo & Nikitos Kouteledakis who are extremely friendly and informative. The reception staff, Maria, Manolis & Michalis are very pleasant, helpful and attend to any queries you may have with utmost efficiency. As we stayed at the Palladion on a B&B basis we cannot comment on the food in the evening, but the breakfast was more than sufficient with a selection of cheese, cold meats, boiled eggs, fruit, bread, yoghurt, fresh orange juice and tea and coffee - the restaurant staff were very friendly. The bar staff were extremely good and a happy bunch going about their work with much enthusiasm and making the guests feel really welcome. We shall definitely return.Lynn & Martin Crabtree - 12 July, 2003
loved the Palladion, BUT!!!
from Flipmeister
Had a brilliant two weeks in Rethymnon Crete, nice relaxed pace and the staff at the Palladion are friendly and a good laugh. Mainly German guests whilst we were there but nice people no rowdies. Rooms are basic but from what I can gather that is normal for Greece. Most of the whinging from Brits came from trying to compare Greece with Spain. My biggest complaint is the FOOD I went half board and I thought it may have been because there were more German guests and they were catering more for there pallet than ours. But with my pigeon German i found out that they thought the food was rubbish as well. This is a shame because it marred what would have otherwise been a brilliant holiday. Final Word of warning EXCURSIONS we went on a day trip to Santorini priced at 58 euros whilst on the boat we were told the only way around the island was by coach on a guided tour lo and behold at the cost of another 20 euros, then when you want to return to the boat its either a steep descent of 630 steps (535 metres) by foot for nothing or another 3 euros for donkey or cable car. This appears to be the norm pay quite high for excursions and still have to pay when you reach your destination.

The Hotel Palladion was definitely in an excellent location, the beach just across the road, and situated in the heart of the resort, with Supermarkets, bars and restaurants on your doorstep. The Food..at the Palladion I thought was excellent we were Half Board there, and... more
