Lovely family holiday !

My family and I have just returned from a week long stay at the Ananias Apartments.I have read the other reviews and can only say that, yes the apartments are very dated, but are spotlessly clean with fresh bedding and towels twice weekly. The air conditioning and safe deposit box was an extra 100 euros which I found a bit pricey. The food is very resonably priced and delicious, all made fresh. The family and staff are delightful and excellent hosts, including the two dogs Zelda and Socks.
The location is excellent with all you need right on your doorstep,we found the local bus service very good too.
I would recommend Ananias to any of my friends and would love to return there next year.

Typical basic greek little hotel, the rooms were very spacious and had everything you needed. The family were very friendly and always happy to help. The hotel is in a great location in the resort of St George, would recomend this hotel.

I've just been reading through some of the comments about this hotel and can't believe what i've read.
Yiannis and Family must be the most welcoming people on the planet, there not just after your money they actually have time for people. Myself and wife have been here 6 times and its not the last.
The rooms are quite basic but CLEAN. If you want a holiday sitting inside a hotel go to Abu Dhabi, if you want sun, sea, good food and great hosts then this is the place to be .
See you soon Yiannis.

Arrived on 13th Aug with my husband and 2 sons, aged 10 and 5. I had read the reviews and was panicking that this hotel was going to be a filthy nightmare! I shouldn't have worried.. the apartment was very spacious and clean - we had booked a 1 bed with bed settee in lounge - what we got was a large 2 bed, small kitchen and really nice balcony with table and chairs, which, due to the lovely weather, we used as our living space. OK - so the kitchen appliances could do with updating but we didn't go away to cook (eating out was very reasonable) and didn't use anything other than the fridge and kettle which worked - so no complaints there! The bathroom was tiled from floor to ceiling and very clean, our room was cleaned every day (apart from sunday) and our sheets changed once during the week. I was a bit put off by the rep when i got there as she was a bit pushy regarding the flight home and said the airport was a nightmare so we should pay another £10 per person to pre book our seats as this would “cut down on the horrendous queues and guarantee we could sit together' (like anyone was going to sit me away from either of my children! - I didn't pay the extra and guess what .. corfu airport wasn't a nightmare, but in fact very efficiently run. I suppose the rep was only doing what she was told and maybe its different in the daytime but if you have a night flight like us (4am) don't worry, actually the rep turned out to be very friendly and helpful. Don’t let Thomas Cook talk you into taking a pre payment card - practically no-one at the resort accepts them - you are much better off taking cash. One thing that spoiled the holiday briefly was a day out in a hire car - i’m a pretty confident person and driver but have never experienced anything quite like Greek traffic or attitudes to driving!!! If you have never driven abroad before - here is NOT the place to start!! Following this quest for adventure we decided to accept that this was a quiet town and we were going to do little more than sit by a pool for the week - and were much happier for it! The boys spent all day, every day in the pool - we chatted to the other guests, drank cocktails and read a lot! - total bliss! Yianni and his family were wonderful - very friendly and there was a great atmosphere about the place! The food is really good too and if you didn't want to, there would be no need to leave the hotel! That said the Oceana (leave Ananais turn left and keep going its on the left with fab views overlooking the sea) is a lovely restaurant with great staff who made a real fuss of the kids - and us! Just opposite the Ananais there is a really good place to get Gyros and a pint for just a few euros. There is also a great restaurant where the locals go called The Village (turn left outside Ananais then right after bout a hundred yards - then its on the left just after Mad Mikes) it was really reasonable and had swings and a slide for the kids to play on which was great! We didn't see a single police officer at this resort, this was, according to Yianni, simply because they wern’t needed. We agree - the whole place has a very safe, friendly feeling even really late at night walking home from a taverna or restaurant. We were quite sad to leave the resort and we still think of it often - especially Yianni and Anastasia and the rest of their family (not forgetting Yianni’s lovely mum!). If you can afford it (we couldn’t) I heard very good reports about the excursions so i think they are worth the money but the local tourist information centre could probably find you a cheaper route to Corfu town if you wanted to go. I would definitely like to go back there again - i just wish it was a little closer so i didn’t have to fly!!

I have been all over Greece but I didn't expect what we got. We landed at the appartments at 3am to be greeted with having to phone Thomas Cook reps in the Uk to get the Reps to let us in the room. We opened the door to be hit with the stench of mould from the wardrobe and bathroom. The next day we told the rep who tried to sort it out but we would have to wait two days so we decided to stop in it. Yanni the owner is friendly but he gets paid for that. I don't know where T.Cook get three stars from. The Blue Sea has two and it was far cleaner and up dated. The baby pool is covered in green moss and scum with no warning signs.
The pool was filthy. Myself and another guest cleaned the swimming pool from the night befores debri and dead mouse. After swimming I came out of the pool feeling sticky. The room was cleaned twice, towels changed once and the sheets not at all during the week. At the end of the week I left my case under the stairs where I was advised. When I went back for it in the evening it was wet through. My going home clothes were soaked. Angela just shrugged her shoulders. I tried to dry them on the washing line but I ended up going home in wet clothes
The people we met made the holiday. It is quiet in September. All Taverners were shutting down for the winter from 20th September. Good luck if you have booked and not been before. We won't be going back.

My partner & 1 had a fantasitc time here and would definately return, for what we paid for the holiday we wernt expecting the ritz, the apartments were clean and basic, (mattress a little lumpy) but no major faults, yannis & family were very friendly and made you feel welcomed, pool was cleaned daily and there were plenty of room around the poolside, food at the apartments was great and reasonibly priced. Perfect location quiet resort not for the party animals. Beach just a short walk away and was lovely. Would recommend eating at the Steak house and Oceana you will not be disappointed

Myself and my partner have been going to these apartments for four years and have booked up for next year. We are not the only ones, over the years we have made great friends, thanks Glyn,Malcolm, john, julie, hugh, debbie, gary and everyone else, and these people have also been returning year afetr year. Its the most relaxing, chilled out place we have ever been to. Like most people our homelife is pretty hectic and the whole family at the Ananias look after you and are so genuinely friendly. Like most things, you get what you pay for, and the views from the apartments are priceless!
Its not five star so dont expect that. its very clean, comfortable and basis, but that is how the greeks live. just take a walk into the village and you will see what we mean. this place is like marmite....youll love it or hate it. if you have an open mind you will return year after year, guaranteed so ENJOY IT WHILE IT LASTS

we arrived at the ananias on the 13th of august in the middle of the night. Was shown to our room. And we had a sleepless night because we had no air con and was to hot. Was quite loud had to buy ear plugs because peoples doors was shutting so it made a bit of a bang. we paid for our safety deposit box and the air con. we was given the code for the safety deposit box. the code did not work. we went down to the bar and told angela. she gave us batterys for the safe that also did not work. so we thought we would wait a bit longer. still no sign. they gave us a little poxy draw in reception to put a few bits in now with only one key. we kept telling the rep still no sign. Anyway through out the whole 2 weeks we was there we didn't get a refund or it sorted which was annoying. Anyway the air con wasn't good, it took ages to work we must off gone up and down to the bar atleast 6 times. and even when we got it to work it would still play up. The room was basic and clean. But dangerous. we had plug sockets falling off the wall the door handle to the actual door fell off. rusty fridges. the bed was broke. Nails sticking out of the wardrobe. The bathroom was nice. Also our air con started to leak from in and outside which ment the floor was slippery. One morning my 14 year old daughter went to get her clothes of the line and slipped and fell on to the chair which left a horrible big bruise. We had no room to sit on the balcony at night due to the wetness. Im not expecting 5* luxury. Because it was cheap but it should be basic and working. I am very suprised thomas cook would represent this. The big pool had lots of chlorine and wasn't properly cleaned out, and the small pool was green and had lots of algae on the top which looked disguisting. In our brochure it said there was a restaraunt. there wasnt a restaraunt it has been closed down. And we had a passport card thing where you put your euros on which only worked in one restaraunt and i couldnt withdraw any money, but luckly i took cash. There is a nice restaraunt called "the balcony" down the road. I really wouldnt recomend this place if you have children it would be abit boring for them. And if you fancy going shopping you should concider going on the corfu express which my daughter enjoying. The appartment didn't wreck our holiday but it was abit dissapointing.

Basic but clean :)

Sep 2010, Family of 4

We atayed at the Ananias from 17/8/10 to 31/8/10 in a 2-bedroomed apartment. It was basic but clean and there was hot water if you wanted it. The water is heated up by solar panels so there is a little in the morning and plenty early evening, you just have to take into account that all the other holiday makers and staff there have to use it too. However, the heat there in August was so hot that we were thankful of a cooler shower to cool us down!
Our beds were thoughtfully tidied, bins emptied and rooms given a basic wipeover everyday except Sunday which is the cleaners day off.
The staff were welcoming and helpful. Yanni and his wife are a lovely couple, John (-the-roll-man) as we liked to call him made splendid buttery rolls and provided a good cafe-restaurant service.
We never imagined it was going to be 5 star because according to the brochure it was one of the cheapest accomodations available so we got what we paid for. But we would definately go again. Don't expect luxuries similar to the Hilton hotel because you won't get them. Our bath had a rusty section although we could have complained if we were that bothered, our oven was rusty so we didn't use it and the doorknob kept falling off. We enjoyed our holiday so much so these wre simply minor features when you take into account the whole holiday.
The pool was its best feature - well kept and mostly clean. We think Yanni puts too much chlorine in which turned some of our whitish bathing garmenst green...most of this came off after a decent wash in the washing machine back home. We made friends with plenty of people round the pool so the place definately attracts lovely people...hence us and our two children included.
Our daughter, 13 and son, 11 had a fabulous time. They spent 80% time in the pool, loved the pool table and made many new friends.
If you are happy and contented with basic and clean then I would recommend it but if that is not for you then don't go because you will be disappointed and spend alot of your time moaning like lots of the grumpier people we met.
Happy Holidays readers :)

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday staying at the Ananias studio's. The family who run these apartments are very friendly, but the studio's are in need of updating and repairing. When we arrived and was taken to our studio we noticed that the patio doors did not lock, Yannais came with a screwdriver and managed to mend the outside shutter so that locked he said he would get someone to come and mend the patio door, but no one came whilst we was there. We paid for the safety deposit box available in our room and was given a code for this. When we went to use the box we noticed that it was broken and the code could not be used, we was given a key to use but again this did not work. we eventually got a box in the reception area and he said to ask John the next day as he would know how to work it. When we asked John we was told that there were a lot of boxes broken and can not be fixed. We needed a bulb for the bedside lamp and was told that the cleaner would sort it, again this was not done. The rooms were cleaned every day and the cleaners worked hard but they are very basic rooms. The small pool was full of water that had green algi on it people were told that the pool was not to be used. In my opinion the water should have been emptyed. Three days before the end of our holiday the air con we had paid for stopped working my husband went to reception and they had switched it off at the mains because they thought we went home that day, even though we had paid for 14 days. There were a lot of people complaining about dripping water on their balconys, air con not working doors not shutting properly. We started calling this place falter towers. It might seem like I am nick picking but I work hard and save for my two week holiday and I was very dissappointed with this accomadation and would not go back there or recommend it to any one.

just returned from a great holiday in st george south - the apartments were quite good, cleaned everyday and a lovely bar and family The resort is still good with 2 lovely beaches and lovely tavernas. If you want good cheap food then go to The Village where Maria will cook you up a lovely gyros pitta for a snack 2 euros large amstel 2 euros or a large mixed grill. Also try Zachs at the other end of the village near the xcel sports bar, food lovely and the wine cheap and another lovely family who will look after you well. Cannot wait untill next year.
