Hotel Samoa Reviews
" Book if you don't mind having to argue "
Submitted By: DebbieJoynesThe next morning, we made the '5 minute walk' (more like 20 minutes in the heat with 2 kids that are just desperate to get to the beach), back to Samoa. On arrival I was informed that the manager was not available for another hour. Whilst waiting I observed 2 families being booked in, excitedly arriving for their holidays and being given the keys to their rooms. Interesting. I also heard the reception staff calling another room to remind them of their departure time that morning. When I pointed out that clearly rooms were now available I was told that there were further guests due to arrive that day that would be using those rooms! Through gritted teeth, I reminded them that MY FAMILY HAD ACTUALLY ARRIVED THE DAY BEFORE, and that, surely, that entitled me to the room that I had booked and paid for. I was then told that it depended on when people had booked! It was then that I realised that it was all utter b@ll@cks. Eventually, when they realised that I was not going away, I was granted an audience with the manager, who apologised for the 'terrible situation' that they were in with rooms because of the 'flood', yadda, yadda. I didn't believe him. He promised that a room would be available for us the next day, and asked me not to tell any other guests that he had done this. I didn't know if I could believe that a room would be available, but went away and attempted to recapture that holiday feeling that had been lost on our arrival.
On our return the following day, a room was made available for us around 1 pm. Until that point my stay had been utterly miserable and full of tension. We had not been able to unpack our cases for the first 2 days of our holiday, which is completely unacceptable. This is not a trip for the faint hearted. I do a good line in outrage, but I can really do without it on holiday. Our room was small, but 'ok'. The air conditioning (for which we needed to pay a 10 Euro deposit for the remote, which was returned to us when we left)was fabulous and made the fight for our proper room worthwhile. There were lots of people around the hotel, in the restaurant, at the bar, with the tell-tale sign of 2 different all inclusive wrist bands and furrowed brows who - like us - had had the same miserable start to their holiday. I got chatting to quite a few of them. Only the ones who dug their heels in actually got what they paid for.
From then on, the stay itself was great. The entertainment staff worked really hard to keep the children and families happy. The food was warm and varied. We were always able to get a table and never had to wait around for someone else to finish before we could sit and eat. We were on floor 2 and there were some pretty inconsiderate peeople shouting and balling in the corridor at all hours, but obviously that's not something the hotel can predict or prevent. The beach was lovely and within easy reach. Chilling by the pool was just as enjoyable.
The day of check out reminded me of the Samoa that I had come to loathe on arrival. 2 lifts service the whole hotel, so we waited with the 2 kids for half an hour for the lift (picture the scene, parents.....), only to be greeted with complete mayhem at reception, where - clearly - lots of people were checking out at the same time, and there was nowhere safe to store their luggage because the small room available for the job was packed full. People were being told to 'just leave them there' in the reception area....'we'll keep an eye on them'. Yeah, right.
So, in short, out of our 7 day family holiday, almost 2 days were ruined by the tension and uncertainty created by a lovely hotel that appeals to many, overbooks, and then farms people out to alternative hotels which are - in our experience - not nearly of the same standard. If you want to take the risk, I would recommend hotel Samoa, but if you prefer to get what you've paid for without having to be 'difficult' to get it - DON'T BOTHER.

Submitted By: Tinky73All in all had a great holiday the beach is a must really nice blue sea, and get the bus to cala millor only an hour away and really nice place to visit, rooms are basic but ok, staff great, cleaners really nice and friendly, met some great people and now have the holiday blues!
Advice: nice quiet resort
Activities: cala millor

Submitted By: Taz11Upon our arrival the reception staff were very friendly making the check in as quick and easy as possible. Entering Into our room (which was basic) there was an air conditionig unit but was not turned on...wait a minute we had paid for it so after a bit of a discussion with the reception and involving the tour operator it was resolved with no issues...good start friendly and accomodating..
The first day at the pool and most beds had gone due to people getting up early, laying down there towels claiming the best spots, which over the holiday I found mad as everywhere at the pool got the sun and it was of an adequate size.
There are activities laid on everyday for kids and bigger kids (adults) and the animation staff, George, Yves, Adriana, Simone and Rosaria, are great and can speak most languages. This is just as well as most of the nations within Europe Holiday at this Hotel.
After the pool aerobics, a game of volleyball and a quick relax in the sun it was time to be fed,,,,, food is great, hot and replenished regularly. There is no need to be first in as there is plenty of food, morning, noon and evening.
The bar is great none of this who ever tips the waiter gets served first, oh no, it has a queue, fantastic..
The evening has a mini disco for the kids, well one of the animation staff entertaining them on stage outside whilst the adults sit and relax. About 2200 Hrs the adult entertainment starts,(suitable for the kids), This is either the animation staff doing something and involving the guests......My suggestion is get up and partake as it makes for more fun.. or it is an entertainer hired by the hotel.
The beach is 2min from the hotel and is downhill, a must see. There is also a walkway around the sea over the cliffs and for the more adventurous join the locals for a bit of cliff diving. Very clean but busy as it is small.
Overall a very enjoyable holiday, I booked a 3 star hotel not expecting anything like a 5 star but definately value for money and some.
Oh just a quick note, the entertainment stops at midnight and this is enforced so if you want peace and quiet at night get a room over looking the pool and not at the front of the hotel..as there is nightclubs onto the wee early hours of the morning..
this hotel is great for young families

Submitted By: jbandnathanHotel, The hotel was clean and spacious. It had staff constantly walking round clearing cups and other rubbish. The staff all spoke English and were friendly. The majority of the hotel was non smoking as were the rooms. You could only smoke in the outside bar which obviously is good for non smokers. The hotel was a mixture of nationality's but mainly from the UK. There are 8 floors and there are lifts but they take quite a while to come aswell.
Rooms, The rooms were a big let down compared to the rest of the hotel. They were tatty and very basic. The balconys had frosted glass in between the rooms so you didnt have any privacy when sitting out. We asked for a sea view room which was a big mistake, you overlooked the resort and the sea was miles away in the background. Definately ask for a pool view because the view was of the mountains and sea overlooking the pool. The cleaning ladies were always eager to clean your room everyday! They would knock then walk in if you didnt put a do not disturb sign on the door! They changed the towels and bedding and cleared any cups and the ashtray.
Pool, The pool looked really nice and it was cleaned every morning and night. As another reviewer said there was a lifeguard on duty all day. He did not stop playing with the kids and was friendly with everyone. The sun beds, as usual, got taken very early on so you would need to be up before 8 to get a good one.
Beach, Be warned there are tons of steps to get down to the beach! The beach was really clean and not too busy. The sunbeds were expensive though, 10.50 euro for 2! They had fancy car peddelos which had slides on and fit 4 but again these were expensive at 15 euros for an hour. The sea was beautiful and some people were jumping off the rocks in to it which looked fun but dangerous!
Resort, The resort was too small in our opinion. It had a handful of bars and restaurants and if you want to go out after the hotel shuts at 12 then there are only 3 other bars to go to. The resort is mainly made up of shops all selling the same thing. There is a mini golf and a few arcade type games. There are trampolines too and a big bouncy castle which both opened on an evening (didn't see the price of these though). If you are there for 2 weeks you would definately need to hire a car. They had a couple of excursions like a glass bottom boat, a train to Cala D'or, and buses you could take to Manacor. We didn't go on any of these so I couldnt comment.
Food, I would give the food a 10/10 it was really good. There was loads to choose from. Breakfast had a selection of cheese, meat and bread, hot food such as beans, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, carrots?! Yogurts, pastrys, different cereals, toast the list goes on.
Lunch and Dinner had 2 types of soups, a big salad bar, meat and cheese, bread. The hot food selection was good, all different things which changed every day. They had spanish food like squid and calamari but they had pasta with different sauces to choose from, chips, chicken nuggets, calf stew (or beef stew and very nice) pork, chicken, lasagne, vegetables, potatoes, omelette. They had themed food nights too like Spanish and Chinese. There was a good choice of desserts too with different cakes, yogurts, ice cream, watermelon, pineapple.
The Snack bar had burgers, sausages, pasta, chips, bread buns and salad. It was open all day until dinner time.
If you are a vegetarian then you wouldn't have much to eat but thats the same anywhere you go.
Entertainment, Well the entertainment was rubbish. This is because its geared towards the kids all night. Like on the Sunday night they had a play on with some kids in at nearly 10pm! The music comes on about half 10 and then everything stops at 12. There were only 2 nights we were there that they had adult entertainment and this was pretty poor. The entertainment staff did not stop though and the kids loved them. They worked 14 hour days and were still energetic. They did lots of activities during the day like aeorobics, water polo, football, tennis, ping pong, yoga the list goes on. The queue at the bar wasn't too bad and you could get 2 drinks at a time. There was an inside and outside bar as well. There was plenty of choice for drinks, soft and alcholic. At 12.15am they turn all the lights off and make you go inside then before 1 they turn all the indoor lights off!
Overall the hotel is definately a family hotel and I wouldn't advise for couples to go mainly because of the entertainment and the limited nightlife.
A note to those who smoke there is only 1 shop and 1 restaurant on the whole resort that sells cigarettes. It must be something to do with their smoking laws. So stock up at the tabacco shop when you go! Also the shop closes early on a Sunday about 4pm maybe earlier as we found out!

Family 4, AI, £1000, 7 nights.
if you want to see what hotels in the 1970's looked like- go here.
We had no aircon. Only the rooms that are beneath the pool and entertainment area have aircon.
The room that we had, was terrible. Room number 205. The problem was that the room is directly above the boiler room for the whole hotel. It was like being in the engine room of a ship!.
You couldn't even stand on the floor in places in the room, as it was so hot.
I complained on my first day, the recepionist acknowledged that the pipes went under my room... what an understatement.
She gave me a fan, that anyone else had to hire, not that it did anything. In order to sleep at night, I pushed our bed and the kids bunk bed right upto the balcony.
FOOD - basic, boring, sloppy, wouldn't give most to an ugly dog.Sprouts and Fish for Breakfast. All fish is boney as hell. Any meat is just bones with bits of meat on. Coffee is awful.
Entertainment- team that repeat every single sentence in Spanish, French, German, English, Italian , Flemish. it gets annoying. and is pointless. On one night in one of there games, they identified that 7 guests were French, everyone else was British. Yet they still continued repeating all in every language going.
The entertainment is 95% done by inhouse team and is shocking. a comedy night- lost on me.
Snow White night- miming to songs from the film-why? Same again on a Grease night. Chronic.
There is a conrete crazy golf course. A sandy football court. A tennis court. Equipment to hire for deposit.
The only plus point is that the beach is so close.
we went out a few nights, nowt else about, a few karaoke bars. Shops selling crap.
There isn't anywhere to go for a walk and you will get bored.
