" ..not even average.. "

I booked a late deal - 1 week before going in July. (i'm giving a generous 5/10 here.)
Family 4, AI, £1000, 7 nights.
if you want to see what hotels in the 1970's looked like- go here.
We had no aircon. Only the rooms that are beneath the pool and entertainment area have aircon.
The room that we had, was terrible. Room number 205. The problem was that the room is directly above the boiler room for the whole hotel. It was like being in the engine room of a ship!.
You couldn't even stand on the floor in places in the room, as it was so hot.
I complained on my first day, the recepionist acknowledged that the pipes went under my room... what an understatement.
She gave me a fan, that anyone else had to hire, not that it did anything. In order to sleep at night, I pushed our bed and the kids bunk bed right upto the balcony.
FOOD - basic, boring, sloppy, wouldn't give most to an ugly dog.Sprouts and Fish for Breakfast. All fish is boney as hell. Any meat is just bones with bits of meat on. Coffee is awful.
Entertainment- team that repeat every single sentence in Spanish, French, German, English, Italian , Flemish. it gets annoying. and is pointless. On one night in one of there games, they identified that 7 guests were French, everyone else was British. Yet they still continued repeating all in every language going.
The entertainment is 95% done by inhouse team and is shocking. a comedy night- lost on me.
Snow White night- miming to songs from the film-why? Same again on a Grease night. Chronic.
There is a conrete crazy golf course. A sandy football court. A tennis court. Equipment to hire for deposit.
The only plus point is that the beach is so close.
we went out a few nights, nowt else about, a few karaoke bars. Shops selling crap.
There isn't anywhere to go for a walk and you will get bored.

" Book if you don't mind having to argue "

We researched hard for this holiday and booked the Hotel Samoa based on it's facilities, location etc. We did notice that people had had bad experiences with being sent elsewhere on arrival, but thought we would take our chances. That was a mistake. On arrival with 2 tired children at 9:00pm we were informed that there had been a 'flood' and that there was no room available for us. We were informed that we would be placed in their sister hotel 'only 5 minutes walk away', and that we were still allowed to use all the facilites at The Samoa. How generous. We expressed our disatisfaction and asked to meet with the manager who was unavailable until morning. When we arrived at the alternative hotel 'Chihuahau' (in a taxi arranged by the Samoa, which happened to be waiting outside for us), it was apparant from the outset that it was not quite as 'grand' as The Samoa. There were several irate people in the foyer who found themselves in the same position as us. Our room had no air conditioning and because of the heat (on the outside and inside - I was absolutely raging and felt completely helpless) not much sleep was to be had. What an utterly miserable start to a 7 day holiday.
The next morning, we made the '5 minute walk' (more like 20 minutes in the heat with 2 kids that are just desperate to get to the beach), back to Samoa. On arrival I was informed that the manager was not available for another hour. Whilst waiting I observed 2 families being booked in, excitedly arriving for their holidays and being given the keys to their rooms. Interesting. I also heard the reception staff calling another room to remind them of their departure time that morning. When I pointed out that clearly rooms were now available I was told that there were further guests due to arrive that day that would be using those rooms! Through gritted teeth, I reminded them that MY FAMILY HAD ACTUALLY ARRIVED THE DAY BEFORE, and that, surely, that entitled me to the room that I had booked and paid for. I was then told that it depended on when people had booked! It was then that I realised that it was all utter b@ll@cks. Eventually, when they realised that I was not going away, I was granted an audience with the manager, who apologised for the 'terrible situation' that they were in with rooms because of the 'flood', yadda, yadda. I didn't believe him. He promised that a room would be available for us the next day, and asked me not to tell any other guests that he had done this. I didn't know if I could believe that a room would be available, but went away and attempted to recapture that holiday feeling that had been lost on our arrival.
On our return the following day, a room was made available for us around 1 pm. Until that point my stay had been utterly miserable and full of tension. We had not been able to unpack our cases for the first 2 days of our holiday, which is completely unacceptable. This is not a trip for the faint hearted. I do a good line in outrage, but I can really do without it on holiday. Our room was small, but 'ok'. The air conditioning (for which we needed to pay a 10 Euro deposit for the remote, which was returned to us when we left)was fabulous and made the fight for our proper room worthwhile. There were lots of people around the hotel, in the restaurant, at the bar, with the tell-tale sign of 2 different all inclusive wrist bands and furrowed brows who - like us - had had the same miserable start to their holiday. I got chatting to quite a few of them. Only the ones who dug their heels in actually got what they paid for.
From then on, the stay itself was great. The entertainment staff worked really hard to keep the children and families happy. The food was warm and varied. We were always able to get a table and never had to wait around for someone else to finish before we could sit and eat. We were on floor 2 and there were some pretty inconsiderate peeople shouting and balling in the corridor at all hours, but obviously that's not something the hotel can predict or prevent. The beach was lovely and within easy reach. Chilling by the pool was just as enjoyable.
The day of check out reminded me of the Samoa that I had come to loathe on arrival. 2 lifts service the whole hotel, so we waited with the 2 kids for half an hour for the lift (picture the scene, parents.....), only to be greeted with complete mayhem at reception, where - clearly - lots of people were checking out at the same time, and there was nowhere safe to store their luggage because the small room available for the job was packed full. People were being told to 'just leave them there' in the reception area....'we'll keep an eye on them'. Yeah, right.
So, in short, out of our 7 day family holiday, almost 2 days were ruined by the tension and uncertainty created by a lovely hotel that appeals to many, overbooks, and then farms people out to alternative hotels which are - in our experience - not nearly of the same standard. If you want to take the risk, I would recommend hotel Samoa, but if you prefer to get what you've paid for without having to be 'difficult' to get it - DON'T BOTHER.

" Well worth the money "

Family of four, includes 14 year and 6 year old. Plenty to do during the day at the hotel for kids and adults alike. Entertainment team were great, rarely saw my 14 year old, either off in the Maxi Club or with friends she'd met. This is definately a family hotel, bar and entertainment finishes at midnight so enables you to get a good nights sleep, alike some hotels which also have 18-30 clientele. If you want bars after this time, they are less than a five minutes walk. Beach also less than 5 minutes away, but to be honest, it was so hot and the kids liked the daytime entertainment, we were quite happy to get up, have breakfast and stay by the pool. Getting a sunbed was a bit of a pain however, there were always some available and you just move them where you want them so never without someone to lay or sit. Pool clean but doesn't allow inflatables, only after 6.00 when the power hungry life guard left! Food did become a bit boring after a few days. However, everything was edible. We were on second floor over restuarant, definately recommend air conditioning, shame the room didn't have it, although you can hire fans. Drinks are served in plastic cups but if you've got kids, this is far safer than glass. Queues for bars are quite long but in the evening you can go to the inside bar by reception and get served quicker. I would recommend paying for a taxi from the airport. On the way over it took just over an hour and a half. However on the way back, we were picked up at 5.00 and never got to the airport until 7.50 due to several stop offs. This was the only downside to the holiday.

Advice: Nice quiet resort, a few souvenir shops.

Activities: Central bar was good

" NOT HAPPY BUT LUCKY "

After a very early morning flight with 3 children in tow - we arrived at the Samoa - had read the reviews and where really looking forward to childrens clubs, pool and evening entertainment. We arrived at the Samoa to be told they had had a flood and we were to go to another hotel (Canarios Park). We where given wrist bands so we could come back when we liked and use the hotel - then sent in a taxi to the other hotel and given yet another wrist band - ok we thought we will just get on with it - but on seeing lots of others with 2 wrist bands - you get chatting and it seems they had massively over booked, there was not a flood at all - one guest had gone to investigate for himself. On a positive note we had a great time at the other hotel (it had all the same facilities if not better, except aircon) - went back to the Samoa for lunch on a couple of days and found it to be very busy !!! (on one of these occasions we met another family who had also been moved to yet another hotel and were having a terrible time)

" ABSOLUTE VALUE FOR MONEY "

We've just arrived back from Hotel Samoa & i would just like to say what a fantastic time we all had. We booked as a family of 4 All Inclusive & to be honest for what we paid it was really good value for money. The food was great plenty of choices, the entertainment team work tirelessly to make sure you have a good time. Whether you just wanna relax by the pool or join in with some of the activities there's something for everyone. The rooms are quite basic but kept very clean with a maid service everyday, lets be honest what more do you want from a room, somewhere to sleep & somewhere to shower. We had a night time flight on the way out so didn't arrive until the early hours & the Hotel Manager offered to open up the restaurant for us to eat on arrival which i thought was a really nice gesture. Do check before going your rooms have air con, ours did which we had to put a 10 euro deposit down which we got back on checkout but some people were been charged 10 euro a night for air con & some rooms don't have it at all, thats one tip to look out for & believe me it was hot of a night so you do need it. There's a really good mix of nationallities stop at this hotel so everyone is catered for. It's only a stones throw from the Beach which has 2 beautiful white sandy coves & has a quaint little town which some Bars,Restaurants, shops, small amusement park & a small zoo. All in all we paid just over a £1000 for a 1 weeks stay & i would recommend to anyone!!!

" Good holiday "

This is a great hotel and staff really friendly, the food is a bit repetitive if your staying for 2 weeeks, snack bar is great for kids but if your there for 2 weeks then you will be sick of the sight of Ham burgers chips etc! the food in the main restaurant was ok, but lacked taste, best is breakfast it has just about everything including carrots and sprouts!! The resort is lovley just the right size for a nice stay with family and there are loads of shops to browse although most do sell the same things, there is plenty to do for younger children in and around the resort, my son loved the bouncy castle and trampolines. The hotel entertainment was ok, they did try and get everyone involved and the pool area was always clean but i must warn you to get up early if you want a decent sunbed, so annoying when people put there towels out and then bugger off to the beach!! think there should be a 2 hour max for towels left and then remove them was so tempting! the bar staff were really jolly and friendly and plenty of choice for drinks. The only thing annoying about this hotel is the air con, we were told we had to pay 10 euros a day yes my niece only had to pay 10 euros depoosit when we questioned this they said we didnt book with the same company, yet i booked it all at the same time, seems receeption like to charge what they like when they like, we were staying in the 7th floor so dont bother paying for air con just pull the flap down and switch it on yourself although you can only get it on low left on all day and night it was just right.
All in all had a great holiday the beach is a must really nice blue sea, and get the bus to cala millor only an hour away and really nice place to visit, rooms are basic but ok, staff great, cleaners really nice and friendly, met some great people and now have the holiday blues!

Advice: nice quiet resort

Activities: cala millor

" a real honest review "

literally just got home but wanted to review it while things were still fresh in my mind I will start with the transfer the shuttle coach to and from the resort will take 1 hour 30 mins and you will be the last people off whatever coach your on.. this was confirmed by various people we chatted to if you have the money take a taxi but you wont get much change from 130 euros return ..but if u can tolerate the journey u will be rewarded at the end ..on entering the town i initially was UNDERwelmed outside the hotel next to the drive was a bit of wasteland with graffiti on the walls but this was out of keeping with the area the shopping precinct had everything u wanted there was a couple of decent bars facing the hotel and some old guy who must have owned one of them belting out songs on the karoke ..be warned if your room is facing the town and u like your early nights ....he will keep u up with his bleeding warblings and crooning..our room was on the 8th floor and we couldnt ask for more the seaview was superb and although it got noisy on some mornings early..this was people on early flights and thats the only noise we had I WOULD SERIOUSLY ADVISE WHEN BOOKING STIPULATE ROOMS ON FLOORS 4 TO EIGHT we spoke to one woman who was paying 10 euros a day for aircon we were lucky we switched ours on manually and it worked so we didnt pay a penny we were all inclusive so after reading other reviews about the food i was dreading it ...what i would say is there is lots of choice the food is edible and the waiters work very hard my only gripe was there was little alternitive to chips i would have liked to have seen some roast potatoes and baked potatoes as well but this is a very small gripe u wont be disapointed i promise .some reviews i looked at preholiday made me think i had to climb down a rockface to get to the beach ..load of bollocks by the side of the pool there is a stairwell proceed down there walk to the end of the path turn left down the road and the beach is on a slight hill on the right and what a beach it is! in fact u get a choice of 2 beachs seperated by some rocks but we never went over there the water is crystal clear and i mean crystal clear the the waves crash and break sometimes 8 foot high no joking we hired out sunbeds for just over 10 euros a day but they are worth it just for the shade because believe me that beach is a suntrap and left exposed u will burn. if your a pool person ( im not ) u may well be disapointed its quite small and very overcrowded and its a real pain trying to find chairs and beds if u happened to get there late ie u have been down the beach or out in town etc... this also applies for the nightime entertainment if you arrive late be prepared to watch the stage at the very back probably sat on stacked sunbeds (some people would sit on a chair with their feet on another while people hunted for chairs that pissed me right off)to finish i would recomend this hotel to families with younger children not so much to people with no kids and older people who have done the family holiday bit and just want peace and quiet.. in a nutshell I personally would stay there again just for the beach and friendly locals around the town .

" Well worth it "

I booked this holiday last minute for my family. Usually I dont read the reviews posted because we all have different expectations in life, but I did and on reading the reviews in relation to this particular hotel it was very mixed....Had I made a mistake. read on and find out..
Upon our arrival the reception staff were very friendly making the check in as quick and easy as possible. Entering Into our room (which was basic) there was an air conditionig unit but was not turned on...wait a minute we had paid for it so after a bit of a discussion with the reception and involving the tour operator it was resolved with no issues...good start friendly and accomodating..
The first day at the pool and most beds had gone due to people getting up early, laying down there towels claiming the best spots, which over the holiday I found mad as everywhere at the pool got the sun and it was of an adequate size.
There are activities laid on everyday for kids and bigger kids (adults) and the animation staff, George, Yves, Adriana, Simone and Rosaria, are great and can speak most languages. This is just as well as most of the nations within Europe Holiday at this Hotel.
After the pool aerobics, a game of volleyball and a quick relax in the sun it was time to be fed,,,,, food is great, hot and replenished regularly. There is no need to be first in as there is plenty of food, morning, noon and evening.
The bar is great none of this who ever tips the waiter gets served first, oh no, it has a queue, fantastic..
The evening has a mini disco for the kids, well one of the animation staff entertaining them on stage outside whilst the adults sit and relax. About 2200 Hrs the adult entertainment starts,(suitable for the kids), This is either the animation staff doing something and involving the guests......My suggestion is get up and partake as it makes for more fun.. or it is an entertainer hired by the hotel.
The beach is 2min from the hotel and is downhill, a must see. There is also a walkway around the sea over the cliffs and for the more adventurous join the locals for a bit of cliff diving. Very clean but busy as it is small.
Overall a very enjoyable holiday, I booked a 3 star hotel not expecting anything like a 5 star but definately value for money and some.
Oh just a quick note, the entertainment stops at midnight and this is enforced so if you want peace and quiet at night get a room over looking the pool and not at the front of the hotel..as there is nightclubs onto the wee early hours of the morning..
this hotel is great for young families

" Great holiday "

After reading previous review here, I cannot believe we all stayed in the same hotel. This was a fantastic holiday. The staff were so friendly and the service was excellent. Children's club staff were great, entertainment every night was brilliant. The hotel was clean and spotless and our room was cleaned and beds made daily. My children were upset to leave as they felt so at home. I was upset to say goodbye to all the staff as they were so friendly towards us. The food in the restaurant and snack bar was great. The only downfall was Cosmos, as they never met us at the airpot. We were collected by a minibus without a rep, which I thought was unprofessional and this has never happened before, but they have apologised. Please book at this hotel as you will not be disappointed.

" Fab! Does everything it says on the tin! "

Go for it! Having just completed a brilliant short break at Hotel Samoa, Mallorca, I cant believe the poor reviews below! I can only assume that holidaymakers did not research the complex beforehand as it did everything it says on the tin! The all inclusive food was both tasty and varied, with a lovely BBQ hut open all day and ice creams available from the bar. The rooms were simple and clean with a fresh mediterranean feel and lovely en-suite facilities. From arrival to departure, the staff and hotel ammenities were top notch! As young travellers on a last minute booking, we could not believe our luck. Considering the small size of the resort and that the hotel is situated on the quiet side of the island; the range of onsite activities was impressive. In short: Do visit this hotel if you have young children or are simply looking for a fun, yet relaxing holiday without the noise of a big city resort. Best bits: Aqua aerobics and close proximity to a stunningly clear-water beach. Worst bits: We only stayed a week :)

" Good all inclusive holiday "

My boyfriend and I have just got back from a weeks stay at the Samoa. I broke my foot the day before we went so unfortunately I couldn't go in the pool or the sea!
Hotel, The hotel was clean and spacious. It had staff constantly walking round clearing cups and other rubbish. The staff all spoke English and were friendly. The majority of the hotel was non smoking as were the rooms. You could only smoke in the outside bar which obviously is good for non smokers. The hotel was a mixture of nationality's but mainly from the UK. There are 8 floors and there are lifts but they take quite a while to come aswell.
Rooms, The rooms were a big let down compared to the rest of the hotel. They were tatty and very basic. The balconys had frosted glass in between the rooms so you didnt have any privacy when sitting out. We asked for a sea view room which was a big mistake, you overlooked the resort and the sea was miles away in the background. Definately ask for a pool view because the view was of the mountains and sea overlooking the pool. The cleaning ladies were always eager to clean your room everyday! They would knock then walk in if you didnt put a do not disturb sign on the door! They changed the towels and bedding and cleared any cups and the ashtray.
Pool, The pool looked really nice and it was cleaned every morning and night. As another reviewer said there was a lifeguard on duty all day. He did not stop playing with the kids and was friendly with everyone. The sun beds, as usual, got taken very early on so you would need to be up before 8 to get a good one.
Beach, Be warned there are tons of steps to get down to the beach! The beach was really clean and not too busy. The sunbeds were expensive though, 10.50 euro for 2! They had fancy car peddelos which had slides on and fit 4 but again these were expensive at 15 euros for an hour. The sea was beautiful and some people were jumping off the rocks in to it which looked fun but dangerous!
Resort, The resort was too small in our opinion. It had a handful of bars and restaurants and if you want to go out after the hotel shuts at 12 then there are only 3 other bars to go to. The resort is mainly made up of shops all selling the same thing. There is a mini golf and a few arcade type games. There are trampolines too and a big bouncy castle which both opened on an evening (didn't see the price of these though). If you are there for 2 weeks you would definately need to hire a car. They had a couple of excursions like a glass bottom boat, a train to Cala D'or, and buses you could take to Manacor. We didn't go on any of these so I couldnt comment.
Food, I would give the food a 10/10 it was really good. There was loads to choose from. Breakfast had a selection of cheese, meat and bread, hot food such as beans, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, carrots?! Yogurts, pastrys, different cereals, toast the list goes on.
Lunch and Dinner had 2 types of soups, a big salad bar, meat and cheese, bread. The hot food selection was good, all different things which changed every day. They had spanish food like squid and calamari but they had pasta with different sauces to choose from, chips, chicken nuggets, calf stew (or beef stew and very nice) pork, chicken, lasagne, vegetables, potatoes, omelette. They had themed food nights too like Spanish and Chinese. There was a good choice of desserts too with different cakes, yogurts, ice cream, watermelon, pineapple.
The Snack bar had burgers, sausages, pasta, chips, bread buns and salad. It was open all day until dinner time.
If you are a vegetarian then you wouldn't have much to eat but thats the same anywhere you go.
Entertainment, Well the entertainment was rubbish. This is because its geared towards the kids all night. Like on the Sunday night they had a play on with some kids in at nearly 10pm! The music comes on about half 10 and then everything stops at 12. There were only 2 nights we were there that they had adult entertainment and this was pretty poor. The entertainment staff did not stop though and the kids loved them. They worked 14 hour days and were still energetic. They did lots of activities during the day like aeorobics, water polo, football, tennis, ping pong, yoga the list goes on. The queue at the bar wasn't too bad and you could get 2 drinks at a time. There was an inside and outside bar as well. There was plenty of choice for drinks, soft and alcholic. At 12.15am they turn all the lights off and make you go inside then before 1 they turn all the indoor lights off!
Overall the hotel is definately a family hotel and I wouldn't advise for couples to go mainly because of the entertainment and the limited nightlife.
A note to those who smoke there is only 1 shop and 1 restaurant on the whole resort that sells cigarettes. It must be something to do with their smoking laws. So stock up at the tabacco shop when you go! Also the shop closes early on a Sunday about 4pm maybe earlier as we found out!

" Absolutely Rubbish I came home early "

Well having booked a week in this hotel, it was the worst holiday I have ever had.
The pumps in the Swimming pool was not working, they tipped chlorine in a few nights, it was cloudy.
Our room was never cleaned only made the beds, cups still left in room, only two small towels between three of us.
Well the food was cold not even eatable, ate out one night and then was so unhappy went and booked a cheap flight home only have 5 days there instead of 7.
Well anyone that goes thinks about going to this hotel think again.

" Well Imprest, "

I have just spent a week here with 8 members of my family age range 1yr -53yrs.What can I say it was fab, something to do from morning to night.Spotless and well kept, there was always something to eat and the snack bar was perfect aswell especially if you are not a lunch time eater like myself.Entertainment staff were amazing with the kids and George what can I say.Super star or what or should I say a very popular young man.I have to say though a lot of people were getting put to sister hotels in walking distance from the Samoa as it had so many over bookings and yes you did see friction between reception staff and holiday makers but remember it is not the staffs fault. It is definitly a family holiday to be had.Would go back in a minute.

Advice: Plenty to see and do for the size of the island plenty local buses for day trips to other parts.

" All about samoa "

If your thinking of taking your family e.g husband/wife and kid then this is the place to go i went in july 06 with my mum and were the best holiday ive ever had. This hotels foods amazing with wide range of selections of all different food. The beach is a 5 min walk.
