The family rooms are very small...
3 / 10
Aug 2007, Ms S Butler

The family rooms are very small approximately 12' x 12' and sleeping arrangements for a family are 2 single beds and bunk beds. This left very little room and was very stressful at times.
When it came to the air conditioning that could be hired on arrival at a cost of 140 Euros for 2 weeks, there were only 30 rooms that had the facility available. As a result many people resorted to using the hallways to iron clothes, for straightening and drying their hair and generally just sitting around trying to cool down.
The cleanliness of the room was poor, the bathroom floor was probably last cleaned when God's dog was a puppy and the bed sheets had burns in them.
Unfortunately the accommodation had the feeling of a Youth Hostel or Army Barracks.
Be aware that a 6:30 am start is necessary as you need to stake your claim to your desired poolside location (as this is a family hotel room near the children’s area is limited). Also be aware that another of your family members will need to join the sun lounger queue at 7am for the 8am unchaining, this feeding frenzy will be over in 10 minutes as there are only around 200 loungers to cater for the guest in this 300 room hotel.
This may have its upside as any more loungers and we would have resembled Penguins huddling in the Antarctic.
The Swimming Pool needs to be renamed the Pool as there is standing room only and a leisurely swim was a distant dream.
At this point I would urge you to please keep reading as there is a dim light at the end of this tunnel.
As brits we don't mind a bit of a queue, which was just as well as waiting times at the 2 bars were usually quite long. But please don't be shy and use this as a golden opportunity to make friends with your fellow inmates.
The food was hot.
Now for that light; as everyone seemed to be sharing in the same experience there was actually a great atmosphere amongst the guests. The bar and restaurant staff were always very helpful and despite working incredibly long hours they were always cheerful, shame I can't say the same for the reception staff (sorry you knew it couldn't last).
The Children’s Club could not be faulted there was always lots going on all day and into the evening. Unfortunately there was not much entertainment for the adults.
The Island of Mallorca itself is beautiful and the people are generous and friendly, I would recommend Mallorca to anyone and I will return at some point in the future.
As for the Hotel Samoa it was an experience and not one I wish to repeat. Guests who returned after last year’s holiday discovered the Hotel is under new management and not all change is good. Having said all of this I would like to end by saying you get what you pay for.

We have just come back from a...

Aug 2007, Mrs K East

We have just come back from a week’s stay at Samoa we had a great time, my son and daughter aged ten and thirteen, made some great friends and did not want to come home. I had to put my daughter in a taxi kicking and screaming.
We requested a low room as she does not go in lifts and were given the second floor with no hassles I never had any trouble with rudeness from any staff.
Rooms quite basic but cleaned every morning with very polite maids.
Food, nice with a good selection. The trays were filled very quickly, sometimes there was dirty cutlery but I think that can happen anywhere when large amounts are cleaned in machines.
Pool great and clean, no lilos allowed when life guard out, which I think was good and safe and always plenty of activities for kids of all ages I don’t think I have ever seen my kids join in with some many things.
Reception nice and friendly, comfortable settees around to sit on if it gets to hot outside.
Resort lovely, nice shops opposite hotel and fun fair for kids. A train outside hotel will take you on a trip around resort for 2 or 3 Euros each (nice Ride).

Aug 2007, Mr I Kelly

I went to hotel Samoa in 2005 & the only thing that let it down was no air-con in the room, but hired a fan & didn't really find it an issue, a room facing the sun in the morning rather than afternoon would have helped in cooling the room down before bedtime.
Apart from that I can not fault the place & I’m looking at going back in 2008.
The food was excellent & never had any problem with it being cold. The snack bar served hot food most of the day if you miss breakfast.
The staff were all very friendly & the entertainment staff were brilliant. It is a family resort & my advice is join in & you will have the time of your life.
The are shops right across the road from the hotel & the beach is a very short walk down the road.
If air-con was fitted I would give the hotel 10/10

This was the worse all inclusive...
1 / 10
Aug 2007, Mrs L Palmer

This was the worse all inclusive hotels I have been to. I would have rated it 0 if I had been given the option.
The room was not big enough for 3 people. Who wants to sleep on camp beds! There was no storage space so we had to live from the suit cases. There was only 1 socket.
The bathroom was in such poor condition and was not cleaned in the whole 2 weeks and the balcony was never swept.
As for the restaurant or the canteen as we called it. OK if you like to eat tepid Pork, Veal, Pasta, and Chips every day. 5 days was enough for us (4 in total) so costing us around and extra £500.00. The china was so dirty it was a case of hunt the clean cup and plate.
The staff were so unfriendly and rude. We sat on the balcony a couple of nights and had children shining laser light in our faces and eyes. I am epileptic so I went to complain in reception and was rudely spoken to and told that security would be around in about an hour and deal with it.
To top the whole thing off 2 of us caught ear infections from the swimming pool. We later discovered the pool water was being tested as so many people were going down with it.
Some good points at last. The bar staff were efficient ,the resort is fantastic, very clean with good restaurants, bars and shops. But Hotel Samoa a no no.
Will never go back there even if was for free.

I returned from 7 Nights at the Hotel...

Aug 2007, Miss K Wood

I returned from 7 Nights at the Hotel Samoa about 2 weeks ago. We were travelling as a young couple and found that overall the hotel was quite pleasant.
On arrival we were allocated to our room which was on the 3rd floor of the hotel. Although there are 2 working lifts we did not use these often as the queues tended to get quite long for them, but it was no trouble for us to take the stairs.
When we arrived to our room we found that it was very clean and tidy. They are basic rooms but we had a large TV and a lovely view of the town from the balcony. The maids came every morning to make the beds and attend to general tidying.
The one problem we found with Samoa was the food. There was a large selection of food and staff were very efficient in replacing empty trays but we found that it just wasn’t to our tastes and we were eating out lot which was not problem as the town offers a large range of nice restaurants to choose from.
The staff and reps are all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is definitely a family resort so may not suit some couples, as there are always lots of children running round. We found that although we could not get a sunbed there were always plenty of tables to choose from.
The other holidaymakers were all very friendly and it was easy to talk to people in and around the hotel. All in all we got what we paid for and were happy with the majority of the holiday. We spent more money than expected but it was well spent.

Just returned from 10 days at the...

Aug 2007, Mr D West

Just returned from 10 days at the hotel. after reading the reviews about the hotel before we went I was a little apprehensive to say the least, but what a brilliant holiday, what some people have not mentioned this is a 3*hotel not 4* or 5* that some people seem to expect and demand.
The food was good never cold always plenty of everything the staff are all friendly and polite, the rooms although not your retro trendy hotels were spotless cleaned every day the beds changed frequently and the towels every day.
This is a family hotel so the entertainment is based around the kids although a bit naff that is what holiday entertainment is all about. All the people we spoke too all said the same, reading the reviews they thought they were going on a holiday from hell and how wrong they had been informed it seems to me there are too many professional complainers out there do not be put off by some of the bad reports this is a fantastic hotel in a lovely small resort excellent!!!

Having just got back this morning I...

Aug 2007, Mr I Darch

Having just got back this morning I thought I would share my review!
Weather was great and overall I think the Samoa was a great place to stay and we would definitely go there again.
Whilst I can see the reviews on this page are mixed, remember the old saying " you can't please all of the people all of the time"
Yes - the food does get repetitive - you try cooking for that many people and having HOT (mine was always hot) food available for hours on end as people eat at different times.
NO - you don't get air conditioning in the rooms as standard and we hired a fan to help with airflow, yes you have to pay for it, but if you don't want to that's up to you.
The pool was great, no lilo allowed but that's for safety reasons, although all children’s flotation devices were ok.
Staff were very friendly and rooms were cleaned every day.
Overall, well recommended.

Aug 2007, Mr A Brinton

Arrived at around 10 pm and was greeted by the big grand marble entrance, wow wrong hotel we thought, bit nice for a 3 star.
Reception was friendly as were all the staff and told us the restaurant was shut but the snack bar was open till 11.
Went to our room which was clean tidy spacious and a view out to sea, as the hotel is right on the beach it was a great view. The food overall was good, repetitive at times but there was a choice of meals to choose from.
Queuing for the bar was wired at first but it makes sense. Swimming pool area did get busy but the beach is less than 200 metres away and the snorkelling is great, the resort itself is tiny so don’t expect too much in the way of nightlife.
Overall I can’t see why this hotel has got bad reviews, if you want a cheap lazy holiday where you can eat and drink as much as you want this is a great hotel, it’s not a 5 star but nobody here has paid 5 star prices.

Aug 2007, Mrs A Hardy

Read the reviews before we went decided we would judge for ourselves.
Rooms okay, could be cleaner, beds & towels changed every day but floor not swept once.
Food always cold in the main dining room if you don’t like fish & veal you don’t have a lot of choice. Snack bar is lovely always hot food and good selection.
Entertainment is rubbish, only watched one show, although the team work hard they mime to everything they do.
Resort is quiet but lovely. Been there done it wore the tee-shirt but wouldn't go back.

Have just returned having spent 7...
5 / 10
Aug 2007, Mrs G DAVIES

Have just returned having spent 7 days at the Hotel Samoa. Arrived at 10 pm and were given a cold buffet of cheese, ham and bread - the restaurant having closed at 9.30pm. The room we had was on floor 2 and was a small room comprising of 1 double bed and a set of bunk beds which had been added to the room as the hotel had been double booked.
The room had only 1 electric socket, 2 drawers and 2 bedside cabinets. We had understood when booking that we were going to get air con but when we queried this on arrival were told that there are only 10 rooms with air con in them and they were all full. So, we ended up hiring a fan for the week costing 20.50 euros. Because of the heat wave, we ended up leaving this on all night to sleep.
However, the fan did not really help much especially as you only have 1 electric socket so TV, hairdryer etc. could not be used at the same time as the fan. We also requested a pool view and were given a room overlooking the restaurant roof, kitchens and bins and at 1.30 am each morning were woken up by the skip being delivered and removed.
Our bathroom had a cupboard/vent in the wall which had a lock which did not work. Inside this vent were the pipes from upstairs and on the other side of the pipes were next doors bathroom. Sometimes the vent opened by itself. Also, on one occasion the smell of sulphur came from this vent. When we complained about this to the hotel staff it was dealt with straight away.
The snack bar closes at 6.30pm - advertised on their website and in the cosmos brochure as staying open until 11pm. Several times we had to venture across to the local burger king at night time. So after 6pm at night the only thing which is all inclusive is the drinks.
The rooms were kept clean with a maid every day and clean towels on a daily basis.
the drinks are limited to 2 per person which is difficult when you are queuing up for a family of 4.
The pool area is kept clean with a lifeguard present until tea time each day. Be wary of getting into the deep end of the pool as it is literally very deep - over 6 ft - so watch your children don’t just get in without being able to swim.
The crazy golf area is covered by pine trees which is nice shade in the middle of the day. My son got the sharp end of a pine needle stuck into his scalp whilst playing crazy golf and this ended up with us seeing the local doctor who had to cut and put stitches into his head as the needle has a barb on the end and cannot be pulled out also they are toxic and so this has to be done quite quickly.
We cannot complain about the food as we were quite taken by the choice - except for chips each dinner and night time. We also missed the choice of veg - very limited. The choice of salads, dessert, fruit, fish, meat etc. was good and in fact we ate some meats and fish we had never had before. The restaurant was kept clean and the staff were pleasant.
The beach is literally 5 minutes walk from the hotel and is well worth a visit. Take some money because you will have to pay for your sun beds but this depends on how may you hire etc. at seven euros each for the day. The water is lovely and clear and warm - hired a pedallo for an hour and had great fun.
We had a good time because we made it a good holiday. The room was very basic but we did not spend much time in it anyway.
No air con was the biggest problem - especially when we were told we had it when we booked. The food was fine. We spent more money than we thought we would. This was our first all inclusive holiday and so did not know what to expect. However, would not necessarily be in a rush to go back to this hotel again.
If you have not gone yet make sure to take emergency money for food at night time and on the beach and enjoy yourselves.

After reading all the reviews I was a...
7 / 10
Aug 2007, Mr M SINGH

After reading all the reviews I was a little concerned with what we was going to expect all round. So I told my party not to expect anything other than basic meals, accommodation, drinks etc.
So after a few days of eating, drinking we felt that we were getting value for money. Breakfast was good that you had cereals, continental but also the good old English fry up. Snack bar was very good in terms of the chief who prepared the food I felt took real pride in his cooking in that burgers, chips, sausages, pasta etc was never over cooked at all.
The negative side to the snack bar was that it was always the same apart from the odd day when the sausages went from small to large and back again. You could always go into the main restaurant to eat lunch which got you basically a full evening meal but I would prefer to save this for the evening.
Evening time’s food varied to the lunch time meals and once again we were all very impressed at night time and always found the meals cooked correctly especially meats which on most holidays tended to be over or under cooked.
Rooms very basic and i say that this was our real problem and was not happy about. We booked a room to cater for 2 adults and 2 young children 3 & 7 and one adult paying a supplement for a twin room. On arrival it was great that the rooms were next door to each other but the bad news was the rooms only had 2 & 3 beds in them.
The family room had the 3rd bed squeezed in (camp bed on wheels by the look off it) and when we complained that we had requested and paid additional money for single room and room to sleep a family of 4 they basically said that they would turn a bed into a bunk bed which in our eyes would have made the rooms even more claustrophobic than they already were and due to no actual space in the rooms we could only manage to get one suitcase under the bed and the other 2 we had to walk around all holiday.
So although the rooms were cleaned and beds made up everyday the actual untidiness’ of the rooms made by us (due to not enough draws/cupboard space was a nightmare) and we felt we lived in a right tip which didn’t make you feel relaxed when you was in the rooms.
Anything extra you pay for; we got a fan for I think around 20euros and it did the trick. Air con is around £100 for 2 weeks. TV 30euros - one of our rooms still had the cable attached to the TV and the aerial socket on the wall so if you don’t want to pay this high price I would suggest you bring your own cable (its not as if you will be using it at home while on holiday).
Kid’s entertainment through out the day was great. Evening entertainment with the reps got repetitive and the occasional outside entertainment was a bit lame to be truthful.
The pools were pretty ok (no inflatable beds in pools) which I think it quite a good idea really as the pool is not massive. There is a small children’s park in the grounds with swings etc and small mini golf .arcade machines, tennis and football pitch.
We meet a big family group with young children and the adults in the party did not stop complaining about the lack of quality off the food and said they always found the food not to be satisfying which we could never understand.
So like all the reviews here everyone has their own opinion and tastes. Great value for money but probably wouldn’t go again only because we always like to try out new places.
Ps; the drink is good and you will get drunk on the measures the bar staff pour that’s for sure :-)
