Sep 2007, Miss C Crookes

I would have put 0 in the rating if I could, it is horrible there, the place is quiet with nothing to do in the area. Walked round the town centre in 20 mins, and the few restaurants there serve mostly the same food. We arrived there at 10am, we had been up all night travelling then got to reception and they told us to wait 1/2 an hour as our rooms was not ready. So we waited patiently to be told that one room wasn't cleaned and the other one still had the people in it and they would not get out as there flight wasn’t until late that night.
Once we got in our rooms about 2 hours late they was disgusting, the bathroom you didn’t even want to use. We requested air-con as we do not book a holiday unless there is air-con, but once we got there no air-con available! We sat round the pool then tried some lunch it was absolutely disgusting, you wouldn’t want to feed it to your dog! So we got on the phone to the travel operator and demanded to be moved, we had to stay there for that night. We then had to pay for two taxis to take the 6 of us to Palma Nova as they did not supply us a transfer then we had to pay extra to stay in our hotel. Once we arrived there after wasting 1 1/2 days of our 7 day holiday it was worth paying the extra if Hotel Samoa is a 3* ,our other one must of been 12*(infact it was another 3* we got moved to).
Would not advise anyone to go to this part of the island or stay at that hotel if you want a holiday you can enjoy!

I have just arrived back from Hotel...

Sep 2007, Miss J McManus

I have just arrived back from Hotel Samoa, situated in Calas de Mallorca. I was a little apprehensive about our stay in the hotel having read reviews about the hotel prior to going. I have to say that there was hardly any flaws at all.
When we arrived it was very late at night and the hotel staff were very, very nice to us. We were hungry and needed some time to eat and drink, they let us go into the canteen area where we ate sandwiches and had some beverages.
The hotel foyer was gorgeous, very spacious, large soft sofas if you wanted to relax and internet service availability. Our room was excellent. It wasn't the biggest of rooms but I was very happy with it. Very clean, the maids changed sheets, towels and mopped up the floors inside the room and the balcony every day. They were very pleasant.
Entertainment was great for children, food was nice (nothing out of the ordinary), drinks were fine but had nothing like Smirnoff ice, breezers, stuff like that but I was still able to get drunk anyway! The beach is 5 mins walk away, which was GREAT! It was BEAUTIFUL!
Shops, bars, restaurants are just across from the hotel and bus services to other destinations just outside the hotel also. It is a 3 star hotel, I wouldn't put in down, other people may have higher standards but I thought I was great! I would go again! 9 out of 10 from me!

I suppose the thing to remember is...
4 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss H Young

I suppose the thing to remember is this is only a 3 star hotel.
We arrived late (11pm) after a long journey with no meal on the plane (even though we'd ordered one!) we almost wept with joy when the man on reception told us the restaurant was open for us! We weren't expecting a slap up meal but bread rolls you could have knocked someone out with and dried up slices of meat weren't to our taste! Thank God above for the Burger King opposite!

After watching the overly armed security guard tackle some over zealous youngsters obviously making the most of the booze on tap, we made it up to our room.
Not bad on first impressions and served us ok. The balcony doors aren't safety glass and very flimsy which was a bit of a concern when holidaying with a toddler. We had a major problem with ants (not helped by the delightful people next door who insisted on leaving bags of rubbish in the corridor) but the cleaners kept on top of it. The cleaners were very pleasant and were there every day to make the beds, change towels and give the room a sweep. The bathroom was pretty rank to be honest, with a lingering smell.
There was no pool side bar open, as advertised which was a pain, meaning you had to get dried and semi dressed every time you wanted a drink from the main bar. The snack bar shut at 6.30pm meaning there was no food after the restaurant shut at 9pm. Again this had been advertised so to find it lacking was a bit frustrating.
The rooms are not AC as it states. There are only 10 rooms (out of 100's) with AC. Apparently there will be AC in all the rooms soon; the work is getting done this summer. With no shutters and all glass paned doors the rooms get very very stuffy. You can rent a fan from reception but with only one socket in the room its benefits aren't huge!
The drink is watered down (we have this on good authority after finding one of the waiters drinking elsewhere) but service is good - although you start to miss drinking from a real glass (plastic cups are the order of the day).
Food was ok, in perspective it is a 3 star hotel and no a lot can be expected - especially for them money you are paying.
Entertainment was dire - immature and loud! Usually a tacky CD with the 'entertainment' staff prancing about on the stage. But then with all that (watered down) booze on tap you can soon block the naffness of it out!
The resort itself is quiet with only a couple of decent 'nightclubs' but the surrounding bars and restaurants are nice. We had booked a car for the week - only around £70 and it was great to be able to get away and explore - without paying a fortune for the excursions offered.
Overall an OK holiday, good fun round the pool (especially the kids one - it is only 20cm deep all round and is great for toddlers), some good laughs at night with other guests, uncomfortable nights with terrible beds, mediocre food, polite staff.
You get what you pay for!

The worst holiday I have ever...
1 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr Mc Namee

The worst holiday I have ever experienced. Where do I start!
Just entered the room after travelling all day I went to the toilet, did the doings, and found the lever broken. Complained about it and asked for another room as my partner and her son were very disappointed with the grubby room, paint flaking off the wood work very outdated furniture especially for an all inclusive hotel. Toilet was sorted shortly afterwards but the receptionist was not very polite, she told me to consult our rep.
When we entered the restaurant the food was cold, the staff were told, they shrugged their shoulders and the problem was still not resolved. After the first few days I was violently sick which was followed with 2 and a half days of diarrhoea!! Partners son then followed on with sickness and diarrhoea for a full day. My partner never got these symptoms although all she ate was yoghurt from a tub, lettuce and tomato.
I did here people complain something must have been done. Guys appeared going round dinner hall and snack bar with note pads, checking food . After that what a difference , but it was too late. We could not look at the food by then!
We ate out at the restaurant across the road the last couple of nights ,it was worth paying for lovely hot chips +chicken just cooked for you!! I would not go back there for free.
The reps for the kids and entertainment did their best.

This holiday was the first time we...
8 / 10
Sep 2007, Mrs M May

This holiday was the first time we had booked independently and we were very impressed with our efforts!
At Palma airport we quickly found resort Hoppa who were our transfer, an English speaking man lead us to our bus. The journey took over an hour which was a long time, but we expected this.
On arrival the hotel looked great inside and out and the staff were polite. We took the lift to our room (a nice sized lift carrying 2 adults 2 kids 2 cases and a pushchair).I gather the rooms are under the entertainment and pool area.
I was disappointed with the room; inside the door was a bathroom, some wall paper pealing off. Next to this room was a cupboard, the only other room containing 2 double beds pushed together, a bench a 2 drawers.
I found it very cramped. There was no privacy. When the children went to sleep we could either go to sleep ourselves or sit on the balcony were we had to be quiet. The television in the room was likely to wake them.
(But then I got over it and thought, “how much time would we actually spend in our room")?
It was necessary to rent a fan as there was no air con in our room. This cost about £1.50 per day (well worth it) we kept it on all night as it was so hot, but not noisy.
The night we arrived the food seemed very poor. We ate at 9pm.there was not much selection.
Later we found that the restaurant closes at 9.30pm and they were getting short of food at this time. Every other night we ate when it opened at 6.30pm and then got a nice seat for the children’s disco.
The food was excellent from then on. A salad bar, plenty of fish, 2 soups, lots of breads, fruit, chips pasta veg and lots of different meats. Deserts were ice cream yoghurts gateaux jelly and fruit.
All sorts to drink too with paper or glass cups. A microwave to heat baby food ect...
The breakfast menu had a large variety too.
There is a snack bar which closes around 6.30pm located next to the pool. This served salad chips sausages burgers and pasta. You could eat there in your swim suits (the restaurant had to be slightly smarter, they liked you to were a t-shirt and skirt or shorts), I found the smell of the snack bar in the heat was a bit too much by the end of our hols (fried food and heat), but in a major problem!
The staff in the restaurant and snack bar were very pleasant. As we have a 2 year old we could always get milk and heat if needed. We did buy a certain from the shop across the road but it did not taste the same!
The entertainment was great, the staff work so hard. From 11am - 12.30 there is a tots club with things such as a bouncy castle, face painting, and fun in the park. At the same time the older kids have fun playing football or tennis in the courts behind the pool area or crazy golf. My son enjoyed water polo the best. He made so many friends in the week we were there.
For the adults there was plenty of activities to keep us busy.
The entertainment then started with a different selection in the afternoons. The entertainers were fantastic! And the hotel seemed very safe to let the older kids wonder off to do their own thing.
The evening entertainment was great, a good selection for kids and adults. My 2 enjoyed the parrot show. The fun finished about 11pm. This holiday was for families, single groups would need to go somewhere else after to have fun. (if the fun carried on later you would not sleep)!
There are 3 pools and a life guard, as we had a small child we needed to be near the little pool. There was no problem getting a sun bed there were loads.
Our room was cleaned every day and on every floor there is a store cupboard and shower room for those who have a late flight and have handed there room keys in. (check out is midday).
In this room there a lilos, rubber rings, and lots more that people have left behind. We noticed that holiday makers borrowed them and put them back when they left for others to use. (what a good idea).
Across the road there a selection of shops and bars and some fun things for kids to do. And on the other side is the beach, just down a few steps. Manned by a life guard.
I think this is a family holiday, very impressed.

This is a great holiday to go as a...

Sep 2007, Miss L Smith

This is a great holiday to go as a family. The staff were really kind and always gave a smile whenever you walked past. The barmen worked really hard and were really kind. In the main restaurant you could choose what you wanted for food, so it was mainly a buffet. There was a snack bar next to the bar, mainly full of pizza burger and chips, great for the kids. There was also a salad if you fancied something healthy.
The pool area is an ok size for the amount of people there. You had to be at the pool early if you wanted a sun bed, otherwise you were stuck with plastic chairs. There were two pools. The main pool is a great size starting from shallow to deep. The toddler’s pool was a small size, good for the amount of toddlers and babies.
Our room was on -2. There were lifts and stairs. On the first day we went down the stairs with the suitcases, not knowing there was a lift right down to the bottom floor. Me and my Mum explored the hotel floor and we found the lift later that night. We requested to be near out family friends, which didn't happen.
There was basic entertainment, a show every night. Sometimes the staff would put on a show or there would be pros. There was a tennis court. If you wanted to play then you would make a deposit at the reception area. Mini golf was good; you also had to make a deposit at the reception. Golf clubs were a bit tatty. In the day there would be pool entertainment.
The room was a fair size for 4 people. On one day we got infested by ants. We reported it to the reception and in an hour or so they came and sprayed down a substance to get rid of them and later mopped the floor. The next day there was not even an ant in sight!
I would recommend this hotel to anybody young or old, with children or without. We would defiantly come here later in life!

Just back from this hotel- would stay...

Sep 2007, Miss G Alexander

Just back from this hotel- would stay clear of this hotel, although the area around is lovely I wouldn’t recommend staying at the Samoa, just back from a weeks stay here and in the whole week here the bed sheets where not changed. When changing the towels is was as though they where just giving you back the same dirty, damp ones left for them to change.
The room was ok for somewhere to sleep even at that you could never get a good night sleep on those beds.
First night of getting there went for dinner and the look of it put me of straight away wasn’t until I tried some bolognaise it nearly made me sick, it was absolutely disgusting.
Myself and partner ended up eating out the rest of our holiday found a good few restaurants around with great food and staff, try cafe Mallorca, great food-great people and the coca cola club for night time entertainment was excellent and with cheap drink and the real stuff too, not your cheap vodka.
Lovely little beach, not allot around to do but nice if you want a lovely quiet holiday, good few, shops, bars and restaurants around.

Just come back form this hotel....
8 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss Ls Simpson

Just come back form this hotel. Don’t listen to any of the bad reviews that people have wrote on here it’s not as bad a people are making it out to be.
The rooms were fine and not dirty at all and were always cleaned everyday with new towels and beds changed, room’s weren’t exactly that big but does it really matter? As long as there ok to stay in not like your going to be in there all the time.
The hotel was not dirty at all and always being cleaned, people saying that the staff are rude they are not rude at all and very nice receptionists help you with any problems, entertainment people were very nice & good looking, as well as people working in the restaurant and bar staff.
Swimming pool is not that small like people are saying it is a reasonable size I have seen allot smaller!!
You can always get a sun bed and stuff so don’t worry about that.
Entertainment wasn’t that good but was excellent for the little kids and had that every night for about 2 hours.
Food could of been a bit better but was not as bad as people on here are making it out to be saying that it was disgusting and had to eat out it did get a bit repetitive, but you could always find something that you will like and wasn’t that bad at all.
Always something to do at the hotel for kids and adults they got allot of entertainment things going on during the day like football, volleyball and stuff and a kids club.
They also have big football courts and tennis courts and a mini golf, a children’s adventure playground thing and arcades and table tennis table.
The beach is only a 5 minute walk but don’t go out the front of the hotel to get to the beach like we did as it will take allot longer didn’t realise there was a gap down stairs next to the pool go that way otherwise it will be along walk!!
But it’s a nice beach not very big but big enough and about £7.50 euros for 1 sun bed £10 euros for 2 with an umbrella. There isn’t really much outside of the hotel just a few shops not many and a couple of bars and a night club but don’t think I ever saw it open also a big mini golf course in the middle of the shops which is good.
But if you want to go on any trips like aqua land marine land aquarium or anything be warned it as a long journey if you book it with the coach as they go to all the different hotels out of calas de Mallorca and all and take about 3 hours to get to marine land and about 2 and half 2 aqua land and does get a bit boring because your on the coach for 6 hours the day and only at the place for 4 hours!
But I went marine land is very good with dolphins and that good for the little kids.
I like at Samoa and would defiantly go there again, but if you’re young and looking to go nightclubbing and that then I would not go to calas de Mallorca as there is not anything there like that. But hotel very good not like some people are saying.

After arriving at the Samoa at 00:30...

Sep 2007, MARIES2508

After arriving at the Samoa at 00:30 we we told "no, not tonight we are full, come back in 2 nights". We were given a leaflet for their sister hotel, the Eurocalas and they called us a taxi.
After 2 nights in the Eurocalas, to which we were not impressed by we finally got our rooms at the Samoa.
I loved this place; the entertainment team were fantastic with keeping the kids occupied from morning till night. Dancing round the pool, aqua aerobics, water polo etc. they did a great Grease show.
The food was good too. I always found something to suit all of our party and we are all quite fussy eaters. We never had a problem getting drinks only having to queue for 5 mins the bar staff worked very hard and very quick.
Overall this was a fantastic holiday but I wouldn't go again as and the only reason for this is that they put us in another hotel and we found that this ruined part of our holiday, and as we were only there for a week it made us feel like we had only gone on a 4 day break.
We weren’t the only people that this happened to either.

Sep 2007, Ms J Sole

Had a terrible time, the rooms were small, dated and dirty. The hotel was dirty. The staff were rude.
The food was so bad we ended up eating out. The pool was too small for the amount of people in the hotel, and it was filthy. Several people got ear infections.
Very disappointing and given the extra money we had to spend on food its expensive.
