Came back from this lovely hotel on 30/7/09. The hotel itself is great, spotless, lovely pool. There were never enough sun loungers or parasols and people were getting up at 6.30-7.30 to put towels down. The children's pool was also good although we did have to ask twice... more

Cala Vynas is a very quiet resort if you want to chill out, if you want a bit more life then it's only 10 mins walk to Magalluf (but don't if you can help it!) The hotel is 4* and well deserved. Clean, good staff, excellent food, good pool area (although short of a lot of... more

dig the bingo!!
Just got back from the cala vinas. Stayed there about 4 years ago and can only conclude that the hotel has now been ruined by the "all inn" brigade. The hotel has gone down the hill big time. The rooms all though clean, are very dated and in need of a refurb. The entertainment in the evenings is totally centered around the working mans club bingo at 9 p.m:- super!! (we did`nt bother. We were "stationed on the floor under the works canteen that doubled as the restaurant and so were woken every morning nice and early by the staff preparing the bacon and eggs for the brits (quality). The pool area is a filthy disgrace and is legionares waiting to happen. When the snack bar (behind the pool bar) shuts at dinnertime it casually reopens 3 HOURS later with the same food which has been sat there all the time,a word in reception about this fact did not make fresh food appear,i gave that one a miss. The lovely bar in the upstairs lounge area opens for a little at dinnertime for the "all in" gang and the same in the evening again,if you want a drink out of these hours you have to trot down to the pool and sit with the folk who don`t set foot away from the free beer and ice creams!!!. Dont get me wrong i was also "all in" but we did on quite a few occasions venture into the abyiss that is the island of mallorca but we were amongst the rare and few!! I conclude that the hotel group that has taken this hotel has gone for the all in option and in my opinion it has toyally ruined what has been for many years a quality hotel, and i for one will not return.
Fantastic!
i visited cala vinas in July/August 06 with my boyfriend and a couple of friends. we were all very pleased with the hotel and quiet surprised by how nice it was. The view from our rooms were fantastic we were on the forth floor looking out over the bay. The food in the hotel was brilliant, so much choice and lovely views from the restaurant. All the staff were really nice and helpful i cannot fault this hotel and would recomend it to enyone its a 1 minute walk to the beach or you can jump in the sea from the pool area. the evening entertainment varied it was run by a very hard working who were great with the kids they allso organised games and activities threwout the day to keep kids entertained. at night there was a mini disco for all the kids followed by half hour of bingo then a show which changed each night some shows were excellent some poor supose it all depends what your into. if you dont want to stay at the hotel for the evening its ony a 5 euro taxi ride to magaluf so you can have a wild night out and come back to peace and quiet when you have had enough i thought it was great!
!st Class
After reading some of the reviews on the hotel Cala Vinas, I was far from looking forward to my holiday! 13 of us travelled there, and upon arrival felt instantly welcome. All the rooms were imaculate and staff were very friendly. I didn't think that because we were all inclusive we were treated any different to the others. The food, despite what some say is very good and there is a wide selection every night. As a teenager I found the entertainment very good and the entertainers tried very hard to make everyone involved, whether that ment from their chairs or on stage, and made it look effortless! There was entertainment from young children throughout the day and into the evening, followed by entertainment for adults! The pools were cleaned EVERY day aswell as the rooms to a high standard! I will definetly be revisiting the hotel Cala Vinas, and as soon as possible!!!!!!!!!!
Lovely views and location, shame about some of the staff
A group of us stayed at this hotel 29th June for 3 nights, we went on a good package that included the all inclusive option. the location of the hotel is stunning, over looking the sea and is very peaceful in the day. we encountered a few problems and feel it is a shame that the bar staff let this hotel that could be top class down a little. The bar by the pool is only manned by one person thoughout the day and there are often long queues, when you did get to the front of the queue the staff were often rude and very abrupt. on our last day, the pool had been cleaned, but the filter mess had been left by our sunbeds and was discusting - tissues, slimiy hair etc ! we asked the maintenance man to clean it up as there were small kids about who could slip - and also it is very discusting - and he refused to do it or to get someone else to! the staff need some lessons in customer relations! one of the ladies in our group has stayed before and said she wass so upset that the level of staff had gone down so much as it is really letting this hotel down- it could be great, but was just OK. the food is basic really like most hotels in spain - it hasn't really got into the luxury market for the restaurants : breakfast was the best meal - an array of pastries, whole fruit, cerals, and fried / hot options, lunch and dinner were very similar, pasta, meat, salad etc, there is a snack bar by the pool opening after breakfast and lunch, for a buffet of salad and cold meats, burger, sausages, chips and pasta. we did enjoy the stay at the hotel, but we did eat out 2 out of 3 nights as after breakfast and lunch you were a little bored of the options! but if you were a young family then I am sure it would be easy and most people will find something they like. the maids and reception staff were always helpful and friend ly, the rooms are a little dated but very clean and the air-con is fab! The hotel is only located short cab ride to Magaluf for the more adventureus people, it is only €4, and takes 5 mins in a cab - that reception will call for you. There is a nice small bar and shop across from the hotel, should you go half board for just room only. All in all a beautiful location right on the sea, and a nice pool, clean rooms. not a 4 * hotel I would say a slightly dated 3* and if the staff were a little friendlier I think a lot more people may want to return (not only us who found the staff rude - but others we also spoke too.)
Fantastic Holiday!!
This this the third time we have stayed here and it gets better every year. We totally love this place. We went all inclusive for 10 nights and had a great time. The maids are constantly cleaning (we had clean bed linen and towels every single day), the food service offers a very good choice and the view over looking the sea makes the holiday so special. The boat trip to Palma is a lovely trip and the Pirates show in Magalluf is definately worth seeing. I really cant see how anyone can complain about this place!!
Fantastic Stay!!
Stayed here summer 2005 - after reading some of the reviews I didn't know what to expect but when I arrived I was really happy. Hotel is very clean and tidy, staff were very helpful and friendly, food was brilliant (went all inclusive) so was range of food available all day and the pool is very nice. Nice quiet area and only a short walk from shops and night life - overall had a brilliant holiday and would definately reccommend!
are we talking about the same hotel!!!
Having stayed in the Cala Vinas at the SAME time as a rexiewer who actually considered awarding it 5 Stars instead of 4...I am wondering if we are indeed on the same planet ! This place, in the worn down area, in nothing short of a tired tired late seventies package dump! FULLY inclusive, I do not think so.....apart from the staff, who appear to detest working here with the type of package clientel ....realizr themselves that ir fore gone days of regular clients are over.... Apparantly it is used to OFF LOAD other hotels in the group for the lower end of the package market.....all it now needs are hen and sragg parties to use it.... Food is bothing short os disgusting...thanfulls an excellent eating house in the area, saved the day.... rooms, osme ok but generally very very old indeed.... lovley views....well they can't really change too much...unless one was to build in the middle of the bay..... Mallorca does really NOT offer the standard in FULLY INCLUSIVE hollidays that are acceptable.....copared to theamed resort fully inclusive products in other places in for example the canaries or America....where up to choices of free pre boolable a la carte are on offer to guests...where many forms of good entertainment are offered....not a bouple of school kids running around and trying to entertain on a budget.... THIS is the problem, Cala vinas today is trying to exhist on a budget, and I understand the reason the staff actually remain there is the fact that they have paid vacation from NOVEMBER to APRIL...when thankfully it is closed. The summer I understand from them is unreal....with a brigade of transferred holidaymakers from usully 2 and 3 srat hotels, trying to climatize themselves to that is supposed to be a 4 star resort..... take advice, IF you are used to 4 star...this is NOT one......3....possibly ....just possibly....
cala vinas hotel
visited september 2005, exellent, how anyone could slate this hotel i don't know why? brillant food, brilliant location, great rooms, one of the best hotels we have been to; will definatly be going again
Loved it! Great hotel & great location!
How anyone can possible slate this hotel I really do not know. We have just returned from 10 days all inclusive and had one of the best holidays ever, with not a single "lager lout" or football shirt in sight at the hotel. Obviously if you choose to holiday in the main seasons/school holiday dates you must expect to find families with groups of children attracted by the excellent value for money this hotel provides. If you do not like children present on your holiday - go when they are at school!! We began our holiday on 10th September and the clientele consisted mainly of couples and young families with young children/babies under 5. The food in the hotel was faultless and caters for even the fussiest of diners - and this is coming from a very strict vegetarian! Breakfast was fantastic with a choice of cereals, pastries and hot buffet. Lunch and dinner consisted of choice of soup, salad bar, cold meats and cheeses, hot buffet and choice of desserts. Pleasingly, a totally different and unlimited choice of food was available for lunch and dinner each day, not repeated. There are a lot of local dishes avaiable for lunch and evening meals which my partner enjoyed tasting and there was a lot of grilled fish and chicken, which one would expect as they are part of the staple spanish diet. For those who prefer 'English' food, chips were always available. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and this was much aided by the view from the restaurant, which overlooked the pool and the sea, and if your timing was right, the sunset and sunrise. The snackbar is exactly what is says - SNACK bar - and offers a few snack items to munch inbetween meals should one get a bit peckish. There were a few items of salad, cheese, ham and bread if you fancied a sandwich inbetween meals, as well as chips and a variety of other hot foods such as sausages, spaghetti and chicken nuggets as well as cakes. We rarely visited the snackbar however as you can each as much as you wish for your main meal and this more than satisfied our appetites. The all inclusive bars were fabulous, with one by the pool and one by the restaurant. I was certainly surprised by the array of drinks included - especially the cocktails! Admittedly the entertainment staff consisted of 2 only girls for our entire stay who did not put on the best performances i have ever seen, but to give them credit they, along with all the other staff at the hotel, worked very hard and long days. This was not a problem for us however as we do not base our holiday purely around the entertainment offered by the hotel and prefer to experience the culture of the country in which we visit. The Cala Vinas Hotel was excellent for this as there is a bus stop outside the reception where you can catch a bus to Magaluf, Palmanova and Palma. Magaluf, in a nutshell, is a dump unless of course you like resorts full of English pubs, clubs and 'tacky shops'. Although saying this we did find a fantastic little authentic style restaurant called 'Portofino' located on the other side of Magaluf from the hotel, and would highly recommend this if you fancy a change from the hotel. The walk into Magaluf from the hotel takes around 15 minutes but may not be easy for those with mobility or breathing difficulties, as it is quite hilly. A trip to Palma is well worth the inexpensive bus ride (2.3 euro per adult) as the cathedral is maginificent as well as some of the yachts in the port, and there are plenty of shops to satisfy even the most hardcore of shopaholics as well as quaint little street cafes, although these are very expensive. You should expect to pay around 35 euro in a taxi from the airport to the hotel, although if you are on a budget, it is much cheaper to get the 107 bus from the hotel into Palma and then a taxi to the airport (and vice versa), which cost us a total of 20 euros. Our rooms were cleaned, beds were made, and fresh towels placed in our bathroom every day by the friendly maids, and although we were one of the few to stay in a room without a sea view, we had a view of the beach instead and a slightly larger balcony to compensate. Rooms are double glazed and we heard nothing of the entertainment at night. All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would certainly return. The only reason i have not given this hotel a 5/5 is that there are too many areas that permit smoking at this hotel, and for non-smokers this is extremely irritating, especially when we have to suffer it around the pool and queue for drinks in a fog of cigarette smoke where young children are present.
Never Again!
By no means a 4 star hotel. I have never been to a 4 star hotel that serves drinks, hot and cold, in plastic cups! The hotel has a beautiful setting but this is all we could say that is good about the place. The corridors were musty and had dirty, worn carpets, the rooms most definately did not accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, we were tripping over each other for 2 weeks. The furniture in the rooms must have been 20 years old and there wasn't even any tea/coffee making facilities! There is a beautiful bar on the same level as reception but only opened for 3 hours in the evening then it was back down to the pool bar with its plastic tables and chairs and plastic cups. Not the kind of luxuries I was looking forward to! If you happened to bring a glass down to the pool bar, a waiter came to you with a plastic cup and emptied your drink into it and took the glass away. Classey!! The advertised a la carte restaurant was nowhere to be seen, the barbeque area mustn't have been used in years, the indoor pool was closed for the summer and the gym and beauticians were closed 'due to illness'. What a carryon! Magalluf was at least 25-30 minutes walk, those who have written in their reviews that it took them 10 minutes, 20 minutes, must have been speed walking! It is quite a hilly walk. Don't walk back in the dark - it is quite lonely and bats everywhere. If you want to see a proper 4 star hotel visit the Antilla Sol Hotel, it's on the way to Magalluf from the Cala Vinas. Beautiful! The only thing that made our holiday enjoyable was meeting a lovely family from York (Hi Ally, Tom, Sel and Rob).
