I booked this hotel without reading any reviews. I decided i liked the look and it seemed like a really family friendly hotel. First time we were going to blackpool my children are 3 and 2. As soon as you enter the hotel the smell of stale smell welcomes you. The decor is... more

We have stayed in each of the Britania owned hotels in Blackpool this year. The Norbreck Castle was decent enough, although the breakfasts were rank! The Savoy was the worst of the bunch as we had to be transferred to another hotel! The staff here were unhelpful and... more

Pleasantly Surprised!!!
After reading so many bad reviews of this hotel, I was really worried about our stay.....well I was pleasantly surprised! People moan way too much! OK, so the hotel is going through a 5 million pound refurbishment, so there is scaffolding up and decorating is needed....but as a whole, the hotel was really nice....old fashioned....but nice! The room was spotless and comfortable. The food was nice...and plentiful. The entertainment was aimed at the older person (organist etc), but was fun! The staff were helpful and friendly. If I had to change anything, I would have got a room that wasn't facing the road....as you could hear the trams etc....but this did not really affect us too much....and the stay was such a bargain (3 nights, 2 people, breakfast and 3 course dinner - £155.00), we were more than happy. If you want complete luxury....then this is NOT the hotel for you. But if you want a comfortable place to stay....that is close to the beach, tower, piers etc....then this hotel is right up your street. We are already planning to go back to Blackpool....and will hopefully be able to stay at this hotel again. I know everyones opinion is different, but for me...this hotel was just what we wanted and after reading the reviews I had....more than exceeded expectations!!
Didn't spoil my holiday though....Not a bad stay.
Stayed here at the begining of July. The beds where clean, the white hand and bath towels supplied were also clean. The room was ready for the promised refurbishment, there where some stains on the wall near the tea and coffee area that would have benefited from the use of a cloth and hot water, but overall the room was clean and needing to pull out of the bed to reach something that I'd dropped didn't show any dust bunnies. The bathroom was also ready for the promised refurbishment, but was clean. Lack of a carpet or bath mat made using the hand towel for the purpose enivitable, but the wet tile floor didn't yield any dirt to the towel. Also had lashings of hot water. The only complaint that I had about the room was the windows desparately needed cleaning. It's such a pity to have some great views ruined by the amount of grim on the windows. The refurbished areas look good, but will probably need touching up by the time the rest of the hotel catches up. Creaky corridor floor boards caused more than the occassional laughter in my group. The food was good, and plentyful and the waiter "Lance" that served starters, tea and coffee very helpful and polite. The reception staff were polite and helpful, and the duty manager that I spoke to more than happy to help with a small problem. I will say, if you want to lay in bed, ask not to be over the workers compound as they arrive every am at 07:30 to 08:00am. Didn't spoil my holiday though....Not a bad stay.
not good, not bad
when we arrived i was pleasently surprise nice and clean, but when upstairs to the bedrooms things changed, wallpaper falling off walls, damp, smell in room, but the thing that annoyed me the most was the dreaded trams up and down making my bed shake as they go past, definately would request a sea view the next time. my advise would be to stick to a modern hotel, this one needs a dramatic overhaul!!!
Hell On Earth
What can I say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This place is HELL ON EARTH.I've stayed in many, many hotels all over the world & I can safely say that this is by far the worst.I thought we were meant to be an advanced nation,if so then how is this place still open.I was told by a very rude duty buffoon that the hotel is in the middle of a £5 Million renovation, believe me,that money wont even scratch the surface. There is mold growing on the walls, exposed pipe work, peeling wallpaper, dirt everywhere, staff that should be security taged, food that you wouldn't feed to your worst enemy.Few of the rooms have showers, bathrooms are filthy as are the rooms & the rest of the hotel & all this readers at................£110 per night.Thats right salmonella flesh eating disease at £110 per night. How can these people justify this mad cost.On our arrival we were then told the room would not be ready till 4pm (we arrived at 1.30pm) was this to unleash a swarm of bacteria into our rooms? On the plus side, this place could actualy be fantastic if say £30million were spent on it,its location is great & it is actualy a beautiful looking building. My party & I were there on my Stag weekend so being close to all the bars & clubs was fantastic, but my God what a hole,if you do stay there, when you check in simply complain there & then & DO NOT EAT THE FOOD AT ANY COST,go outside & pick some out of the rubbish bins because .a) It will be cleaner & .b) It will taste better. Even for a bunch of men away on a Stag Doo this is simply not acceptable.I am currently writing to its head office & the Department of Health & Safety because this place should be closed for a full & total renovation not just to paper over the cracks.
Not for me!
I stayed here for one night. It was NOT what I expected. Peeling wallpaper, smelly room, room seemed to have no sound proofing. I was kept awake by people entering and leaving the nightclub outside of my window until 3am. I would not stay again.
A mixed experience
We stayed at the hotel for one night in March and got a very good deal on the price. We payed £35 for two people for dinner, bed and breakfast! we were given our room key and finally found our room, after a long walk down a maze of corridors,on the top floor. We could see where water had previously leaked in through the ceiling as there were brown circles on it. The room however appeared to be now dry, water tight and, although basic, was clean. The hotel appears to have been decorated in the 80's and not touched since! We went to reception to ask for a heater for the room as it felt cold and were ignored for a good 5 minutes by the receptionist who was 'doing the post as the postman was due and nothing had been done all day as usual'. The food was however very good and served by friendly staff. The heater did not appear and our wake up call was 20 minutes late. It is worth visiting here to experience the marvellous building and to imagine what it must have been like in it's hey-day.I would have been mortified though if I had paid the price of £90 for bed and breakfast as was advertised at reception. There is extensive renovation work taking place to the exterior of the building (we were woken by hammering and drilling at 8:15am)and I hope that the work will continue on into the interior of the building.I would visit again but only for a bargain price like we had this time and would request a shower which did not alternately scauld and then freeze me. except for one person i was ready to go home
ater complaining about our given room, not clean, no heating and no sea view for which i had paid for, the staff were too busy flirting with the builders to attend to my problems, that is until 2 hours later a recepionist named JESSICA LUND came on duty and sorted it all out in minutes. The other staff were a right miserable lot and could do with some training in customer care.
Oh Dear
My parents had booked my boyfriend and me a short break surprise for my 21st birthday that included the land lock cruise week at the metropole, and i have to admit after reading the reviews on various websites about the hotel i was worried. When arriving at the hotel it looked really nice except for the scaffolding on the left hand side of the hotel but didnt think anything of it as we werent informed of any refurbishment that was going on. After checking in we made our way to the room, since the lifts were in use we took the stairs and by going further up each floor the decor of the hotel got worst with damp patches on the walls and wallpaper ripped off, but not being a snob i ignored it and push it to the back of my mind. We seattled in to the rooom which was fine no complaints and made our way to the restraurant, since we were booked in for the landlock cruise we werent sure what to expect and were met at the door by a member of staff with a free glass of bucks fizz, we were given the choice of three starters and then helped ourselves to the mains which was a buffett type meal where you helped yourselves to as much as you want which was ok but nothing to write home about, the staff to be honest in the restruant really didnt want to be there and i felt sorry for them as they made this obvious. The next morning after a nights sleep we woke up freezing and to the sound of men shouting, and walking on the scaffolding past our bedroom window which we found out were builders refurbishing the hotel actually it was for a £5 million refurbishment going on in the hotel as a sign told us after going down for our breakfast!!!My parents were NOT informed of building work on the hotel and after them paying alot of money i feel very strongly that any refurbishment that will effect your holiday should inform you in advanced!!!This kind of thing is on the TV programme "holidays from hell". After complaining about how cold our room was the receptionist told us that during the day it is turned off due to the builing and they brought a heater for our room. All in all if there wasnt any refurbishment going on in the hotel it would of been a good holiday but with some of the staff (not all of them most of them were really nice and helpful)being miserable and hostile it really wasnt a grand holiday at the hotel. BEWARE also i found a couple of black hairs in my mushrooms in my breakfast that would make anyone gag!!!!
worst ever!
We stayed in this hotel for a weekend break in April 05, [have just got computer so that's why report is a bit late.] On arrival our friends had already checked in and said the first room allocated was just awful with black mould on shower curtain and windows so dirty you couldn't see out. They were told it could not be changed but when they said they would just check out they eventualy gave different rooms, luckily they checked out our room and had it changed before we arrived so we ended up with what they classed premier rooms. You could see some effort had been made with this room but the walls had about 3 colours of paint and curtains were hanging off wall. Our worst complaint however was the food, it was worst ever, the soup was served cold with skin on it, and waiter wasn't pleased when I asked him to change it. Salad consisted of 1 lettuce leaf, 2 slice tomato and 2 slice cucumber. The toast and milk for breakfast were obviously put on the tableswhen staff came on duty regardless of when you wanted to eat. The public areas were reasonable but we had paid the same price for our break in other hotels and the quality was night and day! Anyway because of the company we were with we had a great weekend but never again to this hotel, and it has obviously made us wary of the Grand hotel group.
What a Dump !
We had the misfortune of booking into this terrible delapitated dump, for two nights on arrivel in this dundering , and unfortunatly ROUGH town The uninterested staff were too busy eating and talkng to help, the rooms were nothing short of something probably modern in the late fifties. Food, not good, service terrible, ash trays full eberywhere, lifts not working....I could go on and on....but I do not think it is worth the trouble......just stay cleat of this BULINS disgusting hole.....
