Grand Metropole Hotel reviews

first and last time

on arrival the reception staff were very abrupt and seemed more interested in telling us about the £3.00 per night car park charge than showing us the location of our rooms.the room itself was cramped and we had to ask for the bathroom to be cleaned before we could use it this was the same for the cups and kettle.food though adequate was tepid rather than the expected hot meals and the floor of the restaurant especially around the tables was covered in food debris from previous diners.many places had a strong smell of dampness.and we saw what appeared to be a birds nest inside the roof of the hotel on one night in the metro bar three identical rounds of drinks were charged at three different prices and this was after the promotion period.to get me to return i feel some compensation to cover my disappointment would be required

Nothing grand!

We arrived and were greeted by a unhelpful rude man on reception who was abrupt also, basically had our keys thrown at us and were told we were on the 3rd floor, no directions or anything. We took our luggage in the small lift and finally found the corridor our room was on. The corridor smelt of what i dont know. words cant even describe the stench. when we got into our room the first thing we seen was a big mould patch from the ceiling all the way down the wall and a badly stained carpet. Having asthma i was worried but due to the abrupt staff i felt it was a waste of time complaining. All we could smell was this horrible stench and also people smoking. The windows were open with loads of pigeons and droppings everywhere, Our view was of this and a old mattress, broken chairs etc. The restaurant was dirty, the cups scruffy the food dripping in fat. None of the staff wanted to even be there or asked if they could help or if we wanted anything we basically got told by another couple that we could enter the restaurant and just find our own seat. No one checked our cards we were asked to take so we could have just walked in from the street. There was one spoon for all the jams , marmalades etc. The entertainment was bad. I rang reception to ask about the bingo and was just told ''i dunno'' to whatever question i asked. Drinks were expensive. I would definately not go back to this place again. Such a shame for a nice old building with a lot of character which is in a ideal location.

DISSAPOINTING

Oct 2011, Mr & Mrs V

We booked Double Superior room with a view @ £100 per night, we got bog standard small dirty room with a view of the road! Staff have no customer service training and were not helpful when we asked questions. Breakfast buffet was ok but was like a school dinner hall. No entertainment and no info of anything going on in Blackpool. Lovely old building but deteriorating. Location is good if you want to go out all night, but bad if you want to sleep at night. Had lunch once but was disappointing as they didn't have half the food on the menu so went out a lot. Will come back to Blackpool as lots to see and do but will find another hotel.

Our break started with a coach parked in the entrance way, and when we went onside to tell the staff, they just said you will just have to wait until it moves, We then were but in a basement room where there was no lift access so had to carry our case down the stairs, Our room was on a corridor which can only be described as a prison corridor, The room itself was dark and there was a brick wall 2 feet away from the window, We had a pipe next to our window where the sound of running water was heard allthe time and generator that kicked in every 5 mins. The bathroom was quite untidy too a vent in the ceiling had a hole in which was stuffed with toilet roll, residue in the bath and a pen on the floor, We also had no signal on our phones and no phone in the room which i thought wasnt very good or very safe, We were offered two other rooms but these were worse,
We stayed in a standard spa room, But this was very much below standard,
We were there 2 hours and then left and got a premier inn,
Since then they have tried to offer us two nights stay back at this hotel which is an insult as we apid for four nights originally,
Whatever you do dont go here, This place should be closed down,

I booked this hotel without reading any reviews. I decided i liked the look and it seemed like a really family friendly hotel. First time we were going to blackpool my children are 3 and 2. As soon as you enter the hotel the smell of stale smell welcomes you. The decor is terrible. My family were located on the smoking floor ( which i never knew this was a smoking hotel ) i refused the room as my oldest child is asthmatic. The receptionist told us to go look at the room which we did and it was disguisting. It stunk of cigarettes the wallpaper was falling off the ceilings looked yellow and the bathroom looked like it had never been cleaned. We went back to reception and told them we wouldn't / couldn't stay in that room. The lady advised there were no other rooms available i asked to speak to the manager and he could not be bothered to come and see me so sent a business card with a fellow manager in order for me to email him!! Great customer service skills. We ended up stopping in the premier inn by the airport as it was the only hotel with a family room ( bear in mind we went on the easter weekend ) and it is exactly what you would expect from a hotel. I have emailed the general manager asking for my money back as i did not stay at the hotel it took him over 10 days to email me back saying that he will transfer my money to another date in the hotel??? Apparently they have invested alot of money into this hotel but i cannot see where. I would advise all families to stay away from this hotel it totally ruined my experience of Blackpool.

We r at the grandmetropol now the location is great. The food is slop if u want to loose weight stay here. The rooms r tiny I booked a disabled room but when we got here they had none so they put us on the second floor a mile from the lifts. I couldn't get a shower because u had to climb in the bath to get one yet some of our party who are able bodied had walk in showers. They compensated us by a free upgrade to a sea view that doesn't help me get a shower does it. Never go again rubbish and not disable friendly

just come back from this hotel with our freinds who we go on trips all the time with, well where do i start?
arriving at the hotel was ok and when we got inside the smell just hit you it smells like the drains not nice at all, then getting to the room the cold hits you after turnung up the radiator to full thinking it would get warm No still no heat so we had to sit all night with our coats on, down stairs having dinner was the same all over the hotel was cold. the staff do not look as if they like there jobs never smile and the free bar is a joke.
we had to take our glass back to the bar for another drink and they put it into the same glass. on the sat night we had our dinner and went out into blackpool around the pubs which was a lot better then staying in the hotel,

My husband and I have just returned from a two night break and had a very enjoyable time! Reception is a bit disappointing in that it is pretty drab but the staff are very cheerful and helpful. Our room was a good size and had been recently refurbished it was spotless with modern bathroom. The heating was excellent very cosy! We found the restaurant was extremely busy in the evenings but the food was of good selection and quality.Excellent breakfast! The evening entertainment was what you would expect in any hotel!Better than going outside on a cold winters night! All in all we found this to be a friendly hotel and as we booked special rates deal it certainly was value for money.

Beware all who enter in one of the Britannia owned hotels in Blackpool
1 / 10
Oct 2010, the Ballys

We have stayed in each of the Britania owned hotels in Blackpool this year.
The Norbreck Castle was decent enough, although the breakfasts were rank!
The Savoy was the worst of the bunch as we had to be transferred to another hotel! The staff here were unhelpful and totally unconcerned about our concerns.
We only had two days in which to enjoy ourselves. During which time we were in 5 rooms and two hotels!
The manager at the Metropole was very helpful and upgraded us for the second of our two night stay. Although once again we found the food to be very bad! It really is totally unacceptable and is barely edible! We would be happy to reiterate all of our concerns should anyone from Britania care to contact us.

Avoid rooms opposite nightclubs

Following 2-night stay have made my complaints direct to Britannia Customers Services, Cheshire with copies to Managing Director and Hotel Manager.
With few exceptions, staff did not project themselves as friendly. Food in Promenade dining room was satisfactory. Entertainment quality was good, but 45 minutes totally inadequate. Directions to facilities were not available beyond the foyer, and after waiting in queue to get key, took 15/20 minutes to find the room - no staff around on 2nd floor to ask.
Room on main road side of hotel was reasonably decorated, but night-time was a horror show. Double glazed windows did nothing to subdue the constant traffic rumbling and shouting/screaming from those visiting and leaving the entertainment venues opposite. Have advised Secondary Glazing might be best solution for drastic noise reduction.
Avoid the back rooms unless you are prepared to stay awake all night.

Proper Sea Side Hotel

My family had a two day stay at the Metropole in early September, having never visted the Hotel before we were apprehensive of what to expect. The Hotel dates back to the turn of the century and is very old world as you travel around its large building. The location is about as good as it gets like the views that you get if you book for a room with a sea view, our family room was large, well decorated and comfortable with spa bath and the all important kids tv channels.
We had also opted for the premier dining option, which was great, lovely dining room and eat as much as you can style buffet service. The deal we had was fantastic value and you get the benefit of not having to pay for car parking as well. There are two bars open at different times of the days during my visit lager was £1.50 apint and Guiness the same and a slush was £1.20 those are great value, there was entertainment every night. Just a great Sea Side venue and very good value for money, the staff were great and made time to chat and amuse the the kids. We are planning to return
