Lovely hotel
I agree with all the positive comments from other reviews. The location is excellent, the hotel and its grounds are spacious and well maintained, the rooms in the first block are also spacious with good sea views, the pool is large and immaculately clean, plenty of sunbeds including the beach (more were put out during our stay as the hotel filled up), good bar and al fresco eating with another excellent taverna and bar on the beach. To top it off, the staff are very friendly and helpful. two minor points to be aware of; At popular times, buses and taxis into town are full by the time they reach the hotel. Either flag down an outbound taxi or catch the outbound bus to stop 10, walk through the Esperides Hotel to the beach and catch the ferry into town fare 2E and a pleasant 10 min sail The public rooms are non-smoking. However, the Greek guests do like to start the day with a cigarette, even sitting by the no smoking sign Plenty of good Greek tavernas in town - for a change, Maria's Pizza, Jailhouse cafe and the Tapas Bar all provide excellent food. The Windmill restaurant was disappointing this year - superb views but average food at high prices c20E for a main course
Good hotel, good location, Great holiday
My missus booked this hotel after many hours trawling t'internet (again Tripadvisor proving invaluable !) and when we arrived we were not dissapointed. Breakfast is ok with lots of bread-based choice; croissants, danish pastries etc, with areas for fruit, cereals, coffee and the obligatory sausage, bacon and eggs for us Brits. There are a lot of Greek tourists at this hotel which makes a nice change from the archetypal `home from home' English oriented hotel, typical of the Canaries/Costas. There is a nice large clean pool with a separate kiddie pool from which is a very short walk to the beach, not the best on the island but convenient. The hotel location is good, it sits about one third of the way from Skiathos town to koukounaries beach making it the ideal base to explore the island, and what an island !. Skiathos town is really beautiful with a main shopping / eating / drinking / people watching street, a picturesque port, excellent restaurants and small romantic streets with something different around every corner, it is a short taxi ride from the hotel (5€). If you tend to be a bit adventurous there is plenty to see and do on Skiathos although you may require an off road vehicle to get the most out of your exploring and to get to the more isolated areas; there is only one main tarmac road on the island, the side roads tend to be a mixture of tarmac, broken tarmac then dirt roads. We hired an off road motorbike which took us on these dirt tracks where you will find great views accompanied by that lovely pine tree / olive tree scent so reminiscent of Greek islands. Take a trip to Skopelos (with your bike/car) if you want to experience a traditional, unspoiled Greek island. There are something like 65 beaches around Skiathos ranging from white pebble to deep white(ish) sand, Koukounaries is the most popular and for some the most beautiful, Big Banana beach (our favourite) is a pine clad sandy crescent shaped cove with deep sand complete with quiet beach bars + clean toilets! also there is a little nudist area to the far left hand side of the beach. Little Banana beach was completely nudist and can be reached over a small rocky headland to the right of Big Banana, there is another small beach to the right of little banana but I did not venture that far ! Overall then you would be hard pushed to find a better Greek hotel / island / holiday destination than above.
Wonderful time at Kassandra Bay
9 of us (2 families, including 5 young adults) stayed at the Kassandra Bay Hotel the 3rd week of August, 2006. It was a terrific place and well worth the money. Great views, pool, kiddie pool, great service, clean and new rooms, terrific breakfasts, internet access. The beach (Vassilias) was good, not one of the most beautiful beaches but still great. The location is superb--about a 45 minute walk to the town or a 6-7 euro cab drive. (While there is a bus that goes from the town to all the beaches, it was really crowded all the time so it was good to be within easy and cheap access to the town.) Just fantastic. Would also recommend the restaurant Bakalico in town--some of hte best food we ate in Greece with lovely Greek music as well.
Wonderful hotel
Have had a really great time on Skiathos, made perfect by our choice of hotel, thanks to Trip Advisor. A very spacious hotel with large rooms (we had a family room for 2 adults and 2 chilodren aged 6 & 10), lots of open air space, seating areas in the shade, lovely pool area with bar adjacent and al fresco dining area overlooking the pretty bay. We loved the style of the hotel, built in steps down to the seafront with lots of natural stone, loads of flowers and even grassy areas. The beach is not the best on the island but it's there on the doorstep, is quiet, has a good taverna for an alternative lunch venue and also has a great waterski guy, Stefano, who will also take you over to the idyllic island across the bay where you can spend a few hours (there is a taverna where we had the freshest sardines) and then be collected. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choice of hot (bacon, egg, sausages) and cold buffet, lovely fresh bread, Greek yoghurt, fruit etc. We ate 3 times on the terrace for lunch which served beautifully cooked Greek food at a reasonable price. All the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. We really found everything to be just perfect, the only thing I thought was missing was a small shop to sell suncreams etc on the premises since the nearest one is quite a walk away. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone - although it was half term there were families, young couples and older couples all there which made for a really nice atmosphere. We were lucky to be there at the beginning of their season so it was very quiet, not the case in July or August I guess!
we were so lucky to find it
when my family and i arrived in skiathos we were supposed to stay at the dafni in megali ammos we arrived to find it to be hardly the hotel we were promised. we then drove around the island and found heaven in greece. we were so lucky that the kassandra bay had enough rooms for my whole family. the staff was absolutely amazing. the beach is wonderful and so is stefanos water sports on the beach. my family and i have stayed in many high end hotels here in the U.S and the kassandra is probably even better. i recommend it to everyone! it was a fabulous vacation. also try amfilki restaraunt.. its unbelievable and inexpensive. it is best to make a reservation!
Nice Hotel
I have stayed in Kassandra Bay Hotel for 7 nights during August. Overall the hotel is a very good one, with nice swimming pool, garden,...etc. When we arrived we were allocated a double room in the first building. Double rooms in the first building are all in the first floor and I would say that they are partially seaview, since immediately in front, you see the common area buildings, ie: reception, restaurant etc. and then in the near distance you see the sea. We asked to change the room with one of a better view, and then our only option was the double rooms in the second building. The second building is in a higher level and rooms have great views, but they are smaller, so we decided to "sacrifice" the space for the view. The breakfast was excellent, the best I have seen in a four star Greek hotel. The swimming pool was very nice and quite large. The hotel taverna had good food and very reasonable prices. The gym was excellent. A big surprise to us, since when we used to see gym in the specs of a hotel, we were then finding out that they only had a couple of equipment to be used. This one, had a big variety of gym-instruments, it was very well equipped. A negative point would be our airconditioning unit. Our room had an aircondition which was noisy, and the worst was that the control was attached to the wall near the door. That meant that if in the middle of the night we wanted to open it or turn it off, or whatever, we would have to get up and walk to the door in order to access the control. I don't know if all the rooms at the second building have the same type of old airconditioning but ours did. As I had seen, double rooms in the first building had modern airconditioning, with "true" remote controllers. Also, all double rooms have two single beds, I think they should also have the choice of a double bed. As far as I know many couples prefer them (including us). One last point would be that I think as a personal opinion that this hotel is addressed mainly to families. It has a lot of family rooms and during my stay, appr. 70% of the visitors were families. This ofcourse is not a negative point for the hotel, but it might be negative for couples looking for quite, relaxing time. It was for us, but we don't blame the hotel for that !. Perhaps during other months, except August, common areas might be quiter...
It worths to visit it...
It was just great! The hotel was really nice and the staff very helpful. Thank you.. We will be back next summer.
incredible holiday in skiathos
just got back from the kassandra bay hotel in skiathos. had the most amazing time. would advise anyone to go there. beautiful place with very friendly people. me and my boyfriend had a lovely time and would definitely like to go back again in the near future.
Paradise in Greece
June 2005 We have just returned from a fantastic two week break at the Kassandra Bay hotel. The hotel and the staff were fantastic, service was out of this world. The setting is ideal especially as we were there with two kids under eleven, the pool is safe and afew steps to the beach with no road to cross was perfect. If you are watching your weight forget it because the food is so good and in unlimited supply.Reception staff are very helpfull and will sort out any problem out how ever big or small no problem. If you like water sports of any kind go to the beach and speak wiyh stepanos who will sort you out at a very reasonable price. On arrival if you think you are alittle out of town just go to the top of the drive and wait for the bus or try one of the many taxi drivers who will stop and try to tout for your trade[usally 5 eros] this option is not for the faint hearted as they all think that they are budding F1 drivers.Overall abrilliant hotel and setting any one going should have a lovelly one or two week break.
Great Place great Holiday
When we booked it looked a beautiful place from the brochure pictures and from its WEB site. We were not disappointed. It has been renovated recently which gave it a new look and feel. The sea view rooms have what they say excellent views over the islands. If you go get a room as high up as possible. The room we had was clean, comfortable and relatively spacious with a balcony overlooking the grounds and sea. The beds were comfortable to say the least. It also had a small fridge which was unexpected for a hotel but it was of great benefit throughout our stay. It also had adequate storage space. The hotel has a huge reception area beautifully furnished and the restraunt was also large and airy and both had a no smoking policy. The pool and surrounding area is the best we have encountered for many a year with very comfortable sun beds and loads of sun shades. We were there in late August early september so it was pretty quite which was a bonus. Steps led down to the beach from the pool area some 20 mtrs. away. The beach was sandy but a touch stoney but the sea was clear and warm and you could walk out some 30 mtrs before it got too deep. We went to other beaches but always came back to ours as it was always quiet. The views over the islands was exceptional. Maid service was excellent with the room cleaned and fresh towels every day with sheets changed twice a week. Bad points - coming from the UK we only had a half board choice which upped the cost somewhat. But the food was ok but sometimes just warm, and a bit repetative but there was always something edible. There are some excellent eating places in Skiathos so we were a bit disappointed to have half board. The friendliness of staff varied - after 2 weeks seeing the same person you would expect to at least get a hello but overall most were fine. The Greek guests were not the least friendly. Overall an excellent hotel and although it is 10 minutes by bus outside Skiathos the local bus runs every 20 mins and is an experience in itself.
