Good location and food but not for families

We have just returned from Lido de Jesolo after a 1 weeks stay, and although i have never wrote a hotel review before i felt i had to this time. I traveled with my husband and 18 month old son and although we had a fantastic holiday the hotel really was a let down. The positives were that it was very clean, quiet and had great views from the balcony the food was also very good. However, i would not recomend this hotel for families, especially if you have young children. There were no facilities for children, not even a baby change room. The childrens pool was full of flies (although the main pool was clean) the childrens seats in the restuarant were not suitable for lively toddlers as it was attached to the table and he just bounced up and down in it spilling all the drink, so we just had to sit him on a normal chair which also had its own problems. One evening after returning to the hotel to put our son to bed 2 members of the hotel staff came banging on our door telling my husband very rudely that we must be quiet. We had only been in the room 10 minutes and my son was asleep in my arms, the only noise we had made was when my son cried for a minute when we changed his nappy! The final straw came when we paid the bar bill the night before we left (as instructed by the many signs around the hotel!) we were charged extra for our sons cot and food, despite us alredy paid in full through the tour operator. Despite us having confirmation of our booking, they insisted we paid it before we could check out and would not budge. I queried why they did not inform us of this extra charge when we arrived but they could not give me an answer. We have since spoken to Thomas Cook and they say we shouldn't have been charged and it is going to take up to 3 months to get our money back.

Lido Di Jesolo in June
6 / 10
Jun 2009, Lorraine H

We have just come back from 14 days in Lido Di Jesolo.
The weather forecast before we left indicated rain, but the weather was great throughout, with only two heavy rain falls throughout and one was during the night.
I had heard the resort referred to as being like Blackpool, and this is not the case. It is however not a true reflection of Italy, and it could be a holiday resort anywhere exception for the food, which was excellent and very reasonably priced.
The resort is mainly split into two parts, the first being the long streatch of beach, which is immaculate and the shopping street, which runs parallel to the beach with the hotels in between.
When we booked we believed that the location of the hotel was central to the two main piazza's. Whilst I suspect this may have once been the case, it is obvious that more investment has been spent in the other end of the resort, where better shops and bar are. For us to get there it was a 45 minute walk from the hotel.
We split our holiday up by spending an overnight in Venice and an overnight in Verona. We boooked these independently and like others have mentioned the travel is easy to do on your own. To get to venice, you get the Number 5 bus to Punto Sabbioni, and the Marc O'Polo ferry to Venice - costing a total of 8.80euro for a next day return (this didn't include any waterbus travel in Venice, which incidently we didn't need). To get to Verona, you need to get the Number 3 bus to the bus station, then a bus to San Dona, and then a train from there to Verona. If timed well this will take about 2.5hrs, however the tourist information office were no help with train times. Had we not split the holiday up, I think that 14 days in Lido would have been too much.
We booked the hotel as a 3*+, but it was not to this standard. We didn't get the option to book room only or b&b, so we went half board. From the 14 nights available to us we had dinner 3 nights and breakfast on 2 occassions. There were 5 choices for each course, but very limited on the vegetarian side, and to be honest I didn't go to Italy to eat Roast Beef, Beef Goulash or Omelette. The food was okay, but what was on offer in the resort was better.
Like another reviewer we had a smell in our room, however as we weren't aiming to spend too much time there we bought an air freshener and this seemed to do the trick. The hotel was spotless but very dated and I wouldn't rush back to it, as there were better hotels at the same price available. One of the things that attracted us was the location to the beach, but to be honest most hotels are no more than a 5 minute walk to their spot on the beach. We had no problems securing a spot on the beach but I suspect in high season it might be a nightmare as each room seems to be allocated one sun chair and sun lounger, regardless of how many are sharing a room.
I would return to the resort but I wouldn't stay any longer than a week, and if booking independently I would try and secure a self catering apartment.

We booked the Las Vegas...
8 / 10
Aug 2008, Mrs D Norris

We booked the Las Vegas independently and found the reception staff to be very helpful when we telephoned for advice( how many of us would be able to understand an Italian asking about money transfers?)
We have been to Italy before so were well aware of sunbed charges etc. Food was adequate, not al a carte but with 2 children with us they had plenty to choose from each moring and evening. If going on a trip they were more than happy to arrange a packed lunch (if you were missing the evening meal) BUT dont expect a bountiful spread !!
Any questions we had were answered politely and with a smile and the manager and his wife came to wave us off on our last day.
The hotel does not have a hufe English presence, but why book a holiday to Europe if you want to sit and speak to English people all day. Our children got very friendly with a little German boy who sat at the next table and on the last day they exchanged gifts with one another!! and there are enough other nationalities who rush down in a morning to get the best beach chairs !!
If you want burger and chips, karaoke and beer swilling then dont book this resort.hotel if you want to experience a typical Italian holiday resort surrounded by many other langages and to 'Do as the Romans do' then without being nit picky this hotel and resort would tick most boxes.
Aqua park is a 10-15 min walk away and plenty of excursions to see t he surrounding areas and history and Yes you do have to travel over 30 mins to some of them but if they were on your doorstep no doubt some people would moan about that !!!
Certainly recommended great for families Beaches are excellant

The hotel was in a perfect position...
7 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr D Cooper

The hotel was in a perfect position for us, on the beach close to the bars, shops and restaurants but not so close that its noisy. We had read the reviews before we booked so we were aware that the hotel dated. This wasn't a problem until you come to use the small lifts which could take some time to arrive at busy periods like breakfast. We did feel like second class citizens at meal times as some of the other reviewers mentioned. Although the lady at the pool bar was fantastic.
The food, in general was excellent. There was a large choice at the buffet breakfast, from fresh fruit, cereals, toast, breads and cheese yoghurt and loads more. You could also have a cooked breakfast for an extra charge but we did not bother.
Dinner was a big issue for us. We were expected to choose tomorrow evenings meal at breakfast the day before. I dont know about you but i like to choose my food just before i eat it not 48 hours before. We also found that the restaurants manager could easily become frustrated if you refused to make a choice. One evening we chose to eat out instead. The following morning we were quizzed by him why we were not at the previous eveings meal. He was the original italian Basil Faulty. We stopped eating there after that as there were so many more bars etc to choose from in the resort. The pizza's in the town were excellent costing between 4 an 6 euros on average.
The only other complaints we had was the feeling that the hotel was trying to squeeze more money out of us. The lifts and entrances remind you to pay the day before you leave, airconditioning was payable at 8 euros, pool was 3 euros etc etc. One day in the pool a british guy through a toy back to my daughter and said jokingly "Thats 10 euros please" so he must have had the same opinion. Even the information pack in the room had more about what they charge for and what you cant do in the hotel. There was nothing of use in it other than what to do in the event of a fire. Any excursions booked at reception had to be paid in cash and the nearest bank is 20 minutes walk away which was very inconveinient. So much easier to go to the Tabachi around the corner who take cards. A few tips if you do book this hotel; if you book a cot take proof of payment otherwise you will be charged, use the beach as its free and just swim in the pool, book B&B only

Like the other comments I agree this...
6 / 10
Jul 2008, Mr G Candy

Like the other comments I agree this hotel is not 4*, it was advertised via our holiday company as a 3*+ but this was downgraded to 3* just before we arrived. I would still say 3* is a generous mark for this hotel. The rooms are small, dated and in need of modernisation especially the bathrooms. They are as clean as can be expected, but there's only so much you can do with dated facilities.
We asked for a top floor room with sea view before we arrived and that's what we got allocated, so no complaints.
There was an air conditioning unit in our room which was not on when we first arrived. However this was not a problem as the weather was initially inclement but during our stay it got very warm and it still didn't get put on. When we ask we were told it would cost 8 euro per day, this cost was not advised by our operator and we didn't know if the hotel were trying it on!
Overall the staff were generally friendly, helpful and assisted with our requests for travel advice etc.
We chose to stay on a half board basis but over 2 weeks this became a little tiring, especially at dinner. There are many good resturants which are not that expensive and within easy walking distance and if returning I'd opt for B&B. On the whole the hotel food was acceptable.
The hotel was advertised as being well located and a short distance to Venice and other tourist spots. Well if you call a 30 minute bus ride followed by 40 minute ferry ride to Venice short then I'm obvioulsy not use to short distances! You can get to Venice, Verona, Florence, Lake Garda etc. via this resort but it takes time eg all day trips so be prepared to travel.
The resort itself is excellent, the beach you cannot fault with the local authorities cleaning it everyday to ensure it was immaculate. When at the resort we chose to stay on the beach using the hotel allocated sunbeds which was great, but be warned the Germans do like reserving the best ones!
The choice of bars and resturants are also very good with the weekend evenings being best as all the locals come out for dinner and to socialise.
Overall - a little disappointed as we had expected more from the hotel. If returning to this resort, which is a possibility, I'd shop around the 4* hotels for a deal.

We were very disappointed after...
7 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs L Brotherton

We were very disappointed after having booked this trip because it was allegedly a 4* hotel to learn only a few days beforehand that it was only classed as a 3*. The travel agent didn't seem the slightest bit concerned about that fact, although had they visited the hotel then perhaps they would have been. Most certainly this hotel was NOT a 4* by the stretch of any imagination. Whilst the room was immaculately clean the bathroom was very dated and our first room (which didn't have a bath just a shower curtain around an area approximately 18' square) had a dreadful smell. The hotel staff thought it was quite acceptable to have this smell and suggested that all rooms had the same and said that it was a smell coming through the pipes (what pipes we don't know)! They thought we should also leave the outside room door open with the roller down as we were in room 321 we wouldn't get burgled!!! At our insistence we got moved to room 501 which was much better - smells coming through pipes is not an option with all sorts of toxic poisening on offer nowadays. The room and the view were the same, there was a bath with a shower over and the bathroom was much brighter generally. The general decor of the main areas of the hotel was clean and tidy but perhaps a little dated. It was nice that we had the same table for dinner every evening and breakfast as it allowed us to take our meals when we chose, also paying 3 euro for the sunbed each day was worth the money to have our chosen bed reserved for us. Emanuella at the outside bar was fantastic - the most friendly by far. It appeared to us that English visitors are not quite as welcome as some other nationalities. The food was plentiful, although some evenings not to our choice but there was always a salad bar which was enough for us in any event. Starters, main courses and desert were from the menu available. The air conditioning units were not working and it got very hot as our week went by. We mentioned this to reception but go no response. One of our fellow travellers learned that if you stood on the bedside cabinet there was a switch inside the unit but it was too late for us as we were at breakfast on our homeward day when we learned this, another guest had been charged 8 euro a day for the remote control for the aircon. Would recommend the resort but would not stay at this hotel again.

My partner and I booked this holiday...
7 / 10
Jul 2007, Miss S Smith

My partner and I booked this holiday 10 days before we travelled. We wanted to go to Italy and this resort and hotel was one of the best value options. All we wanted was a good beach holiday and the chance to go into Venice during our stay.
The half board option wasn't a requirement we insisted on and didn't eat at the hotel every night anyway but it was nice to do so and save on eating out. The food at Las Vegas was ok, nothing to bad but nothing to fantastic, what did come to light speaking to other families and couples, is that some hotels do not give you and a choice of evening meal and certainly don't provide a salad buffet.
Las Vegas provided a very good choice of meals and an excellent salad bar which I found great as I could have easily filled my plate with just that an been happy, so I can say it was great value for money and was certainly up to a good enough standard.
The breakfast again was just basic but it there was good enough selection and a great fruit salad on offer, plus it saves you money on eating out. The dining area is a little like a school dinner hall though, but we found it amusing and twee. You need to buy your drinks/bottles of wine & water separately but they label them and keep them for you for the next night.
The decor and look of the hotel was a very 1980's indeed, I was a tad disappointed when we pulled up outside, it looked a little tatty, and I do feel the description we read when booking, is a little over the top, this is a 3 star hotel and no more.
But we enjoyed our stay there, it was clean and a very friendly environment, the staff are helpful and the poolside bar served a great mix of cheap lunchtime snacks, the pool is great and kept clean and tidy.
You do have to pay for your sunbeds, but beach beds came free with your stay (don't look for your room number though, it doesn't work like that) we were happy to pay for beds by the pool, it is only 3 Euros.
Our room when we first arrived was a small one, no balcony, again a bit disappointed, but the view was spectacular, and we booked so last min we accepted that we wouldn't be in the greatest room.
On our 3rd day we were moved to a top floor large room, with air con and balcony which was fantastic. They offered us this we didn't ask. So we were very pleased at such a nice room still a great view and all this for what was a cheap holiday.
The resort is a super place for families, no English bars, no groups of teenagers from England making us look bad either. But plenty to do and see.
Las Vegas hotel is right near the shops and bars and right opp the beach.
I wouldn't go back to this hotel if I pre booked, but for a last min getaway to a wonderful place it served its purpose for us.
I have nothing bad to say about the hotel, but do be aware it is a little old fashioned/out of date with its decor and some rooms are very small, but that’s about all.
Also if using your tour operator to go into Venice, do walk along the main strip to ANY excursion office and check it out, you may find its cheaper to do it yourself, a bus to the port and then a water taxi into Venice isn't that much different in price, its only an hour away and easy to do.
We felt our day was spoilt by not going on our own. A gondola ride should cost you NO MORE than 80 Euros if you go alone. The 16 euro trip given by the tour is rubbish as the drivers all chat to each other along the way and don't behave very well, they know you have all paid up front as a tour so it’s a last job of the day feel for them, and it’s a rip off.
You have to share with strangers and its half the length of a real ride, without them giving you any information about the buildings around you (mainly as they are too busy chatting on their mobile phones to bother). So be warned. Another couple we met did the day on their own and they had a completely different experience.
But we totally loved the resort and will be returning for sure. The Las Vegas was an adequate place to stay for us this time round.

Very nice hotel, extremely friendly. Very clean, nice food, right on the beach and also near all the shops, nice relaxing holiday.
Only thing that let it down was paying for the sun loungers everyday.
Other than that, brilliant service, brilliant weather, brilliant honeymoon!
