Royal Victoria Hotel

I wanna stay in this Hotel for three nights but I leave the Hotel on the next day. In the room it smells terrible and the carpet was so ugly. The Minibar in the room was so loud that I cant sleep. I was for dinner in the Restaurant and it was terrible too. Varenna is a very nice town in the como lake. The hotel was nice but the Hotel Royal Victoria Grill (the restaurant) was terrible! I found two cockroaches in the salad and the retaurant boss was very impolite!!! Never again this restaurant!!!!

We stayed 3 nights in a room overlooking the lake, with a tiny balcony that needed cleaning. The views kind of made up for that. Room was adequate but the air-conditioner was so noisy we had to sleep with it off and the windows open despite the heat. Note though that the Victoria appears to be the only hotel in Varenna with any a/c. The bathroom was tiny and a bit smelly with the smallest shower-cabinet we had ever tried to squeeze into. We spent two nights at the Hotel Royal Victoria in Varenna, Italy which is in the Lake Como area. We had requested a room with a view of Lake Como, and we were very pleased with the large room we were given. We woke each morning to a magnificent view of Lake Como and a pleasant breeze to go with the beautiful view. On visiting Lake Como in June 2004, with the intent of getting married there the following year, my (now) husband and I decided on staying at Hotel Royal Victoria, Varenna in 2005. Varenna is a lot quieter than popular Bellagio and just as, if not more picturesque. We love the relaxed pace of life in Varenna and found all the locals we spoke with extremely friendly. We stayed at this hotel for 8 nights. The front desk staff is not friendly at all. They offer no assistance in anything, and can be rude as well. The hotel itself is nice, and the pool a bit chilly. The Main piazza was nice as well, but watch out for the Euros if you are an American traveler. They dont adjust their prices and it can be quite expensive. Stay away from Olivedos Resturant, its a tourist trap, 100.00 for two bowls of Pasta and cokes. The women there watches you as you eat with a cigarette in her mouth too. The best part of the... more

From the offset, this hotel was disappointing. The customer service was not overly friendly, and the hotel seemed to have no soul or character or any kind. The room was adequate, but quite dated, as was the bathroom. The view was fantastic though, and being on the other side of the village from the ferry port meant that is was quite peaceful. Breakfast was ok - overall the hotel was ok, but it just lacked something and did not live up to expectations.

Booked cheap flights to Milan Bergamo airport through Ryanair and picked up a hire car. We didnt have any pre-determined place in mind but thought that we would drive around Lake Como and then just stay somewhere that we liked. Fell in love with Varenna on first sight, it is quiet and quaint and exactly what we needed for a small mini-break to get away from the hassles and hustle of London. Hotel Royal Victoria was an excellent place to stay. Right on the main piazza and directly over looking the lake it has the perfect location. The hotel itself was gorgeous, the room a good size and the public rooms beautiful. Definately book a room with a lake view. The view across the lake is uniterupted and breathtaking.

Loved the hotel, it's beautiful. Clean and classy place. Fair size room. Bathroom was also okay except for the shower. It was so small that it was laughable. Request a view overlooking the lake. Great breakfast. Great memories.
