" We spent the first week of our... "

We spent the first week of our honeymoon at the Villa Nicolli and it was just what we wanted. We had paid for a room upgrade, and we had a lovely cool room with a huge bed, a sofa, a twin aspect balcony and fruit and bubbly. The bathroom was very luxurious with marble floors and lovely toiletries.

The location of the hotel was perfect, not on the main road through Riva but in a residential area backing onto vine groves. The garden and pool area were very picturesque, although we did not spend much time down there (too much sightseeing to do!). There was an aqua aerobics session one afternoon which tempted just one lady into the pool to take part, so it's probably not the hotel for organised entertainment!

The food was marvellous, tasty, beautifully cooked and presented. The local dishes included veal and venison which did not appeal, but there was always a fish or veggie alternative. The dessert buffet was fab, you just needed to get there early.

The staff were always helpful and efficient, even at breakfast the morning after Italy won the football World Cup final! We would go back to the Villa Nicolli in a flash, although as another reviewer has recommended, I would pay extra for the room upgrade. The only down side was that the extras were rather expensive - wine, coffees, water from the minibar etc., it all added up.

" Having honeymooned at Villa Nicoli... "

Having honeymooned at Villa Nicoli Hotel in 2003, we returned for a 2 week holiday in August 2006 with our 12 month old daughter.

The location of the hotel is very good, being only a 10 minute walk from Riva Centre.

The pool area and gardens are very well maintained and the hotel has an outside heated Jacuzzi so if the pool is a little cool you are still able to take a dip. Sunbeds are free and there is a pool bar serving snacks/drinks all day. Towels are provided free of charge.

Dining in the evening is truly an experience at this hotel. The food is fabulous and the menus are changed daily. There is always a good choice and is simply irresistible.

Definitely worth paying for half board. The waiters are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The hotel generally is very child friendly.

The food at lunchtime is good, however the lunchtime menu is a bit limited and is quite expensive so best option is to eat out.

Watch out if you are staying with a small child as the hotel will charge locally for the cot (£10.00 GBP per day) which is a shock if you are not aware of this.

Bar drinks are also a little expensive but atmosphere so good in Riva that natural choice is to wander out anyway.

I would definitely consider returning to Villa Nicoli; however I would only make a reservation to stay in the main building of the hotel and NOT the annexe. This building is very grim to say the least. Be warned!
