Fairly good Es Calo Playa

I stayed here a few years back and found the apartments fairly decent. They were clean enough and the location is fantastic. We didnt get a balconey which was great but there was air con which helped alot! There is ajoining doors into the next room but these are always locked.
The location is the greatest thing about these apartments. The beach is about 20 seconds away and the sunset strip bars are about 5minutes walk along the path starting at kanya all the up to savannah. The westend is also about 10minutes walk away. There is a pool but it is usually always in the shade, so not great.

I will dub this hotel the 'marmite hotel' you will either get a good experience which you will love or the opposite. If you are a bit of a gambler this might be one for you!
Firstly the positives:
1. Excellent location near the sunset strip, near some very good sunset bars - Mambo etc and about 100m from the only beach in the area. Takes about 20mins to get into San Antonio town west end which is where the mental places are.
2. Rooms were clean, nothing amazing. A few things with little glitches like some plug sockets not working and missing knobs on shower. There was an exposed socket in our room which my mate touched and got shocked!
3. Good staff (during the day - I will expand on that later!)
4. You get air conditioning for 30 euros deposit - although I think it made us all ill with coughs.
Now the negatives:
1. Ok you might turn up and not get a room (yes you heard me), we were very lucky in that there were 4 of us and we had the 2 rooms which we had booked ready for us. The two girls that turned up after us had no room whatsoever; they had to be booked into another hotel and come back the next day. Talking to other people who were there they had to be booked into another hotel and then again another hotel the following day. There was also some other people that had to wait on the beach and come back later! Also talking to an owner of a pub near by some people had turned up just before the season kicks off and the hotel was shut with no message saying when it would open.
2. Your room might not be cleaned! Again there were some other girls that turned up the same time as us and their room was not cleaned and they had to actually clean it themselves!
3. The day staff are pretty decent and helpful but there’s a guy on the night shift who basically if you asked him to touch his right ear he would do so with his left hand over the top of his head. If you are impatient try not to be checked in during the night shift! All in all he’s a decent guy who gets round to helping you but he’s just very slow at doing it.
4. Noise at 6-7am every morning - it helps if you come back at these times drunk so that you fall asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow.

Very basic accommodation, but fine as...

Very basic accommodation, but fine as a base. We had a balcony which randomly was internal so it opened onto a brick wall and the rooms either side of us!
The room was clean, quite small for three of us but it was ok.
Staff were ok but not amazing. We had a problem with the gas hob in our room and asked for it to be looked at three days in a row - but no one did.
There is a pool at the hotel, but it's always in the shade and quite small. It's better to use the one at the hotel across the road.
There is also a cafe, which was a bit "greasy spoon" but was great for a hangover breakfast!!
Location was excellent. Literally 30 seconds walk from the beach and there are some really nice less rowdy bars round there too. Nice to sit and watch the sunset with a couple of cocktails if you want a break from the chaos of the West End.
Only a short walk into the centre of San Antonio - about ten minutes.
Only major problem was the noise. We went for a good time, but the people who take it to the extreme and stay out all night and get in when we were getting up about 8am were so noisy and because of the way the hotel is built the noise travels.
The internal balconies let noise travel between all floors and all rooms, and the marble floor in the corridors and stairways isn't good when girls are running round in heels or flip flops, as the noise is terrible!!
If you want a quiet holiday, don't stop here. But if you're going away on a budget and just want somewhere to sleep (and you can sleep through noise!) then this would be great. The location is really really good.
