The hotel is in the middle of nowhere wedged between a wasteland and the busy main road. Unlike what it says on a sign outside the hotel, the place does not have all amenities. Quite the opposite, it is the bare minimum: there isn’t any hot water after 8am, there are no satellite TVs in the room nor fridge and it is not modern (unlike what it is stated in the details provided on the net), the telephone does not work, the management have been unhelpful, and speaks many languages but not English. The staff on the other way, from the cleaning lady to the worker in the hotel's mini market have been kind and pleasant. There is no information available for the guests who are not part of a package holiday as to what is there to do or see in the vicinity.
The nearest town, Lardos, is a 20mn walk away on an uninspiring and dangerous road, the public transport (the bus) is unreliable and it is almost impossible to find out what the real time table is, which is quite a problem when you are unable to contact a taxi firm as it happened to us more than once. Lardos is a very very quiet town unremarkable and the lack of good light on the road makes it a dangerous destination at night.
The hotel has one bar which is manned by a friendly and professional barman but despite his efforts, the place is quite boring and feels so because there is nothing else to do or nowhere else to be.
The food is below standards, very salty, often cold and dried after sitting on a hot bench for a while. Vegetarians have no other options but to eat the overcooked vegetables or funny tasting potatoes and rice because most meals involved meat. Only once during our stay had we had traditional Greek food, which is a shame really. Once again, the waiting staff has always been very friendly and nice to the guests.
It is very isolated so hiring a car is probably the best way to go around this as one can enjoy surrounding livelier towns such as Pefkos and Lindos which have so much more to offer in terms of entertainments, while staying in a quiet location. Well, except for the army trucks and building trucks that use the road constantly.
