Hotel Description:

The Hotel Marriana Palace is on the east coast of Rhodes, in the village of Kolymbia, about 20 miles from the capital Rhodes Town. The hotel is only a few minutes away from the famous Kolymbia beach where you can just relax under a parasol or try your hand at one of the many water sports available at Kolymbia beach.

" Hotel nice, pool nice - no snack bar,... "

Hotel nice, pool nice - no snack bar, no entertainment, nothing at all for children not even free ice cream out of meal times. Food very very basic and bland, usually always cold! Drink choices very limited served by very obnoxious evening barman. Fellow guests mainly German and Italian, surprisingly accepting of poor food choices and quality. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone especially those with children.

" This supposedly 4/5 star rated hotel... "

This supposedly 4/5 star rated hotel in our opinion barely rated 2 perhaps 2.5 star. Facilities outlined on their webpage like the lounge bar and poolside snack bar were not available. The rooms with TV and fridge were comfortable, clean with regular bed linen and towel changes. Bathroom lacked any extraction so toilet odours occasionally permeated into the main sleeping area. Air conditioning was an extra at 6 Euros per day.

Pool and poolside gardens with plenty of sun beds, olive trees etc. were impressive but two people went down with ear infections so not sure how clean the pool water was. Sun bed mattresses could be hired at 1.5 Euros per day whilst beach towels were available with a returnable 10 Euro deposit.

The restaurant - buffet style meals - generated the most complaints. The food was basic and if you were lucky no more than luke warm. My fried egg at our first breakfast, off a tray straight from the kitchen, was not only cold but ice cold as if it had been stored in a fridge. One evening meal the chicken was so dry and hard I was unsure whether I was chewing flesh or bone. Deserts never varied, ice cream, jelly and fruit with the rotten parts cut away. The restaurant and bar staff appeared to be rude and surly mainly in my opinion because they spoke very little English.

There were no locks on the cubicle doors of the two communal toilet areas in the basement and the motif of squashed flies and mosquitoes remained the same from day to day except when a fresh carcass was added. There was nothing to dry your hands on except toilet tissue that disintegrated with water contact.

A waste bin by the pool bar consisted of a blue plastic chemical barrel still resplendent with hazard warning labels, very smart.

The main resort area was a good walk away although there were isolated tavernas and super markets within a couple of 100 metres. Busses into Rhodes town were at one hourly intervals until 1700 hrs when it went to 2 hourly and could be caught just outside the hotel. Be warned that the timetable isn’t observed with the busses usually leaving earlier than stipulated.

The beach, about 700 metres from the hotel was mainly shingle or pebbles, there are a couple of water sports area/facilities and sun beds and parasols could be hired.

" We have just returned from the... "

We have just returned from the Marriana Palace Hotel, which we found to cater for all tastes. The fully inclusive package was a very good deal, however the local wines and spirits are not as strong as in the UK.

The staff were friendly and helpful at all times and the rooms are spacious with a large balcony. The pool was a great size and never a problem getting a sun lounger round the pool or in the lovely gardens surrounding the hotel. The food in the restaurant catered for all tastes and had excellent meal times. The hotel is a 20 minute walk to the town where there are tavernas, restaurants and shops.

The resort of Kolymbia makes everyone welcome and we would certainly recommend this hotel for somewhere to relax during the day and if you want something more in the evening then the hotel is ideally situated. Sharon & Martin - Staffordshire.
