The previous 3 ratings given here for this hotel have all got it absolutely right and there's not much more that I can add to them. I entirely endorse their comments, they are accurate and truthful.
It is extremely difficult to fault the Kolymbia Star hotel, and I say that as someone who is not himself that easily pleased!!
Rhodes is a fantastically beautiful island and it would really enhance your holiday experience if you hired a car. Having said that, don't use the hotel's in-house service as it is very expensive, nor any of the others in Kolymbia village centre for that matter as they're also quite expensive. Just pop on the local cheap bus for the short ride to Faliraki and visit my friend Dimitriou who runs Apollo Car Rental which is situated next to the Fun Park. You can't miss it and he'll do you a really good deal. He's the most competitively priced on the island and he'll even collect the car from the hotel when you've finished with it.
Happy holiday.

We have just returned from a really enjoyable holiday in Rhodes.
The Hotel was really excellent, the beds were comfortable, and the rooms were cleaned daily. The food was really good, we only dined out once in two weeks! The hotel staff were polite and friendly.
The hotel had entertainment and bars which was really good, and can be enjoyed by everyone young and old.
The hotel is situated next to a mountain and away from any busy roads or rowdy night life which for us is was perfect
The swimming pools were great with 2 baby pools which was great for us as we had a young child with us.
The beach was really close and nearby is Tsambika Beach which is also really lovely.
We had a really good holiday and I would recommend this hotel for anyone who wants a relaxing quiet holiday.

Excellent hotel, lovely rooms, comfy beds which was a delight.
Great value for money beautiful settings, lovely gardens, close to the beach, lovely lovely, staff in the dining room, on the reception, in the bars and the taverna couldnt fault it food was unbeleivably good and restaurant was very well managed, after reading reviews before we went we never expected to eat in the hotel.. breakfast and dinner just couldnt be faulted.
We were the only brits in the hotel that was a bit of a suprise.
We had a week in Pefkos before we arrived at Kolymbia
Kolymbia didnt seem to have anything going for it as far as resorts go but we had a car for 3 days so got out and about went to Prasonissi AMAZING and Monolithis -well recomended and if you go to Monolithos then make sure you do the drive down to the beach it is worth every hairy moment!!!
Last few days chilled around the poool with Toula (who is an absoloute star and works 7 days a week) and on the beach bar with Vasilus (Billys 24 hour canteen !!!)
Great place would definitly recomend.
Went to one nice taverna on the last night as we were kicked out of our room at midday which is normal I know..
PS The cash machine(20 mins walk) was empty on a number of occasions so make sure you have enough money with you.
I love it and would definitly go back again but I would bring my travel kettle this time :)
Enjoy

we have just returned to poland from our holidays to rhodes island and i can say that we had a really nice time there. the hotel was really good, clean and the food was ok.
the hotel is located about 3 km from the centre of kolymbia thats why we decided to rent a car.in the hotel next to the reception desk RODOS CARS RENT A CAR has an office. this company is the biggest local rent a car company on the island and they have many different types of cars. we met michael(the guy who works there for this company) and we became friends . he is a very polite person ,he has a great sense of humor and he gave us many tips about travelling around the island. the car that we took was a small nissan micra(completely new( 170km)).
finally what i want to suggest is:
rent a car is the most economical way to drive around the island and see the beauties.
if you visit kolymbia star hotel go directly to michael.
if you visit rhodes rent a car from RODOS CARS.
THANK YOU KOLYMBIA STAR AND RODOS CARS FOR THE PERFECT HOLIDAYS!!!!1

I'd like to agree with all of Mrs McCahon's comments and stress that if you can stay at the Kolymbia Star on a room only or B&B basis then you'll have a lovely holiday. In addition to the school dinners served in the main canteen there's also a snack bar where the quality is no better. If you want a drink the guys running the bar inside the hotel create a great atmosphere and are very friendly.
We too had a lovely time eating around the corner at Bonito's where they also had some great musicians playing Greek music on Saturday nights. We too enjoyed Nikos - an oasis of decent food in the middle of Eucalyptus (the main) Street but be warned there's a ropey karaoke bar across the road that provides an unavoidable atmosphere while you eat.
The hotel rooms were clean and the linen changed regularly by the friendly maids. Having a fridge is invaluable (although no kettle so if you want a cuppa you'll have to go to the bar).
Being so close to the beach was terrific and it's a great beach, shingle rather than sand but clear water and the mountains looming over it for a dramatic backdrop. The fruit man arrives in his truck around noon delivering goodies. There are 2 pools at the hotel - one for the lively, one for the chilled out, a tennis and table tennis court, and a very mini 5 hole mini golf course. The reception staff are friendly, helpful and efficient.
Don't listen to any tour operator tales about the buses - they ran on time, the drivers were helpful, they cost next to nothing and they are all air conditioned.

The standard of the rooms was excellent. Remote controlled air conditioning, TV, fridge. Maid service daily with towels and sheets changed every day. Lovely hotel, all beautifully kept and the staff, without exception, were wonderful.
The dining room was a nightmare. Not enough staff to manage it properly and the food was served luke warm to cold most of the time. There was a very limited choice and foods were not clearly identified. However we did not allow this to spoil our holiday as the hotel was, overall, very good. An excellent holiday was had by myself and my husband.
When we return to Rhodes we will probably go on a self catering basis as the food available in the local tavernas was brilliant especially Cafe Bonito just round the corner and cafe Nikos in the local town. Catching the bus was easy as there is a bus stop at the hotel with a regular service to Rhodes Town, Lindos and Paraiso Beach. The bus journeys were " interesting " to say the least. You see all of life on the bus to Rodos!

In June 2005 my family of 100 descended on Kolymbia for a family wedding. Guests stayed in many hotels on Rhodes but quite a few of us stayed at the Kolymbia Star Hotel. It turned out great because it was next door to the Thomson hotel where the wedding was being held! This was good luck because non of us had a clue where the hotels would be till we arrived.
The hotel rooms were a nice size with a fridge and we were all lucky enough to have a view over one of the pools. The maid service was tip top. The hotel shop turned out to be a wonderful supermarket that sold everything from pop and cheese to a great selection of clothes and gifts. There was a jewellers shop next to the reception and it was filled with wonderful gold and silver.
The food was okay but let the place down with not a lot to choose from and it was never hot, but the meals were wonderful at the pool bar thanks to Tony and Staff. Tony's wife worked in reception so they had a great team working for them!!
The manager was a right pain though because he told a great waitress off because we were showing her the wedding photos after our meal one night.
All in all the price of the hotel was good as was the hotel but Kolymbia town had nothing going for it at all (Not even a Taxi in he place after a 20min walk to the bars!!)
With all the family there though we woke the place up and had a good time and found a great place to eat a street away where Chef and Leo made us all so welcome as well.
Thanks Leo and Chef at the Pizza bar, Tony his wife and all the staff at the Kolymbia Star and not forgetting the Thomson’s Hotel where the wedding was held it was the best ever and we all had a great holiday.
Thank you all very much.
Sue and the gang.

We found this hotel on the internet, after reading some reviews, we took a chance and booked it for 10 days. we were really impressed with the hotel, food and staff, who were polite and very caring. The rooms are extremely comfortable and were spacious and bright. The dining hall was immaculate and the food superb. The resort itself seems to be still expanding but that did not detract from the beauty of this lovely resort. One needs to hire a car as it is a little off the beaten track. Nontheless, we explored the whole Island and enjoyed every moment. There are lots of beautiful beaches if you like to sun bathe along with a huge choice of tavernas serving delicious meals at reasonable prices.
We will definitely be returning to the Kolimbia Star Hotel next year.
