Wonderful stay at this hotel. Saff all realy friendly, including the barman Nickos who loves a bit of banter. Rooms very clean and linen/towels changed every day. We love Greek food and there was a wide sellection to choose from. There is a hotel bus to the beach during the day but we preferred to stretch our legs and walk, it was only approx 20 minutes away. There is no animation team or childrens club which is one of the reasons we chose this hotel. Cant believe the negative comments written previously, we would definately go back, we think next year and already looking forqard to it.

We arrived at about 7pm in the evening and were greeted with a smile from the receptionist and given our all-inclusive wristbands and shown to our room.
It was ample and not too cramped even with 3 beds in it. It had a fridge, nice bathroom with shower over bath and TV also air con but this was turned off as it wasn't warm enough - they must of been joking, it was roasting at night but we just kept our balcony door open.
The meals weren't anything special but for this sort of money it was OK. If a little repetitive, breakfasts were fried eggs, beans, bacon or sausage or scrambles eggs, toast always available, as was tea and coffee and fresh orange juice and cereal. Evening meal was loads of salad if you like that and always a meat dish and potatoes and some veg not much choice though but it was all edible.
The pool looked fine and was different from the pictures we saw. It has a big mushroom that squirts water out now for the kids to play around but we went to Lindos beach most days as our 3 yr old loves it on the sand.
The bar area was nice. We were told the arrangement with queuing for drinks by Nicos the barman who was a nice guy. They queue at one end of bar so not to cause arguments "who was first" sort of thing and when time gets to near 11pm at night "free drinks stop". You can see why they queue, its the fairest way of doing it. Do what we did and just keep an eye on the queue and time it right.
Rooms cleaned every single day I cant fault how clean this place is, it could do with a lick of paint here and there but we went right at end of season. I think it was closing in a few weeks so I would have thought it would be in better condition at beginning of summer season. First few days it was wall to wall Germans but as our week went on it soon evened itself out as more and more Brits arrived and the Karaoke night (Tue) went down well. There are a few bars and shops about 15 mins walk away that was ok.
All in all not too bad and try to remember it’s a cheap cheerful holiday and smile at everyone they will smile back.

Aug 2007, Mr S Farrington

We found this Hotel to be clean and friendly. The maid service was excellent - they worked their socks off and cleaned the rooms every day. The food was good and apart from the breakfast, there was plenty of choice.
Pool area could do with some improvements, the paint was starting to peel on the bottom of the kids shallow pool.
For us there were two things that let this Hotel down. The first was the location, although it was set amongst a stunning mountain backdrop, we found it too much of a trek to the beach (30mins) and the nearest bars and shops (20mins). The second thing was that there was no entertainment in the evenings. It was just background music in the hotel bar, in fairness to the hotel they did run a karaoke night and a Greek night but with a family including kids this for us was not enough.

Hotel was ok, and that's about it....

Aug 2007, Mr P Jones

Hotel was ok, and that's about it. Rooms were cleaned daily, and the pool area adequate for sunbathing.
We did not have any food in the hotel not because I am fussy, but my wife is a vegetarian, and the dishes were limited. Those that we were assured were vegetarian by the head waiter (Grumpy so and so) turned out to have meat in them!!
As a diabetic I had to live on water for my daily drinks (not bottled I hasten to add), but from a tap behind the bar (I'm not even sure it was drinking water. They did not have 1 diet sugar free drink to offer in the all inclusive which I find amazing. On our first day the barmaid spoke to me like I was 10 after serving 5 people before me who had arrived at the bar after me she informed me that I was not standing at the corner of the bar so I had to get in line!!!! Mind reading is not my speciality, and there were certainly no signs saying this was required. Lets just say I don't suppose she got many tips! Just about summed the attitude of 99% of the staff who unlike every other Greek person I have come across in my many holidays to Greece were extremely rude.
The only plus with this hotel was the fact that you would have paid near on as much for self catering elsewhere which is basically what we had to do. There are a few decent places to eat 10 mins walk away.
Rhodes itself is a lovely place though, and I would return, but definitely not to this hotel.

We have just spent 2 weeks all...
10 / 10
Jul 2007, Mr Mike Wood + Miss Katie Smythe

We have just spent 2 weeks all inclusive at the Golden Odyssey hotel in rhodes and we have had an excellent time.
I am going to start with the staff because we read all the reviews before we left and were a bit concerned. To be very honest the staff were lovely, we couldn't fault any of them. Firstly, the bar staff- Rosa (daytime) taught us how to ask for beers etc. in greek. nickos (nick) and mixalis (mike) taught us funny words and other greek lingo.
In other reviews they state that nicko is ignorant and bad mannered. During our stay Nicko bought us both drinks (after 11pm), had a joke with us, and even did a song on the karaoke. All the bar staff speak outstanding english and if you have a joke with them then they will have a joke with you.
Now onto the restaurant staff. What can I say? Hard working and always smiling. The second you finish your meal your plate is taken away to be cleaned. There was plenty of food to choose from, catering for many nationalities. Breakfast was not a full english but you cant expect lincolnshire sausage and lean back bacon in greece!!! Nektarios- the matre'd of the restaurant, greeted us at every meal which may i state is buffet style. Beer, wine and fizzy drinks were not served at breakfast as the all inclusive starts at 10am but there are juices to choose from.
The beer served is very refreshing and the wine is very easy to drink. We spent many nights socialising with the other english guests and had a great laugh on the karaoke.
The furniture in the bar area was more than what we had expected, there are leather sofas and cushioned chairs not plastic ones!!!
The swimming pool was not heated but to be honest as it was 40+ degrees most days so the pool was perfect to cool off in.
The hotel is set on the outskirts of Kolymbia- about a 10-15 min walk to the centre were the are many bars and shops. You must visit Memories bar where the staff and terres(the owner) are lovely.
We hired a quad bike for 2 weeks at a price of 280euros. it was well worth it- we went all over Rhodes in our own time not to a schedule- something you can't do on a bus.
To finish off, we would definitely go back there in the future and recommend it to all our friends.

We have just come back from the...

May 2007, Miss R Ferreira

We have just come back from the Golden Odyssey; this is the second time that we have visited. It is just the start of the season so it was a very relaxed atmosphere.
The pool area has changed only slightly, they have been doing up the pool bar which should be open for mid June onwards and it looks like that they have added an amphi-theatre style area, for which I assume that they will be holding there Greek nights there.
Despite what previous reports have said where people have not been impressed, our opinion is the opposite.
The rooms were cleaned every day with fresh bed linen and fresh towels. The food was glorious plenty to choose from although not on an English basis (I don’t go abroad to eat steak and chips etc.
I like to sample what the locals etc would eat so myself and the group that I was with were certainly impressed) I assume that people that have put bad reports on before have been expecting Hilton style 4* accommodation, but this is Greece and on that basis you should be grateful (sorry).
The restaurant manager was always on the go, sometimes helping behind the bar and the reception staff and hotel manager were extremely helpful too as was the bar staff (they were a lot nicer this year - prob cause it was a quieter time for them).
As there was a group of 10 we hired a couple of mopeds and 3 quad bikes which were a great way of exploring the island a bit more rather than catching a bus everywhere.
Lindos was ok although a bit overcrowded, we took a Donkey taxi upto the Acropolis which costs 5 Euros one way they will take you back down for an extra charge (5 Euros) but we opted to walk down - word of warning if half of your party stays in the main bit, make sure that you bring some extra Euros as it costs 6 Euros to walk around the Acropolis which we didn’t bring with us.
Back to the Golden Odyssey, I would personally recommend it, all I would say is to you is don’t go expecting too much and you will be pleasantly surprised, we loved it and we are definitely going back next year with an even bigger group!

This hotel is classed as A. I think...
1 / 10
Oct 2006, Mr Tony Roberts

This hotel is classed as A. I think the "A" stands for Awful. Let start with the good points our room was spotless the bed linen and towels were changed everyday. Now the bad points, the food was always cold, leftovers were served at the next meal mixed with mayo or yoghurt and vegetables, breakfast was eggs boiled, fried or scrambled which had the consistency of rubber. 1 day greasy fatty bacon almost raw, next day frankfurters, next day sausages that to be fair were not too bad but like everything else everything was cold. Lunch and Evening meal you did not know what you were eating as there were no labels or signs to inform you what were in the food trays. Again everything was cold. The hotel owners or echelon had breakfast in the restaurant and got waiter service and reserved seats, for everyone else, grab a seat and fetch your own food. The beer fountain, wine taps and fruit juices worked every now and then both in the bar and the restaurant.
The barman, Nicko, was the most ignorant bad mannered person I have ever known he would walk away when people were waiting to be served, he would question who the drinks were for and at 11pm at night no matter how many people were queuing at the bar or how long they had been stood waiting to be serve he stopped serving All-Inclusive drinks, one guest had been in the queue for almost 15 mins and when he finally got to be served he asked for two drinks, one for himself and one for his wife but as the magic hour of 11pm arrived only one drink had been poured so he was told he would have to pay for the second one!!! All the guests were of the opinion that the drinks that were served were watered down. You could sit all day drinking and you only felt you had been on fruit juice.
A packed lunch consisted of 1 stale roll (no Butter) 1 thin slice of ham and the same of cheese left over from breakfast a hard boiled egg an orange and some rock hard biscuits. No water or any kind of fluids. The day we left the 4th October 2006 a row of tiles fell off the top of the swimming pool which must have been the coldest in Rhodes ( Free sunlight but no heat exchangers to take the chill off the water ) the sea was warm compared to the pool. Air conditioning was not on as advertised in the brochure, all we had was a wet floor from the dripping air conditioning pipes but no air conditioning. You got woken up every morning by the pool fountain at 06.15 then at 06.30 the sprinkerlers came on.
The walls between the apartments were so thin you could hear every thing going on next door the patio doors were single glazed and did not keep any noise out. It was possible to hear every word spoken by the people adjacent plus all the other noises, snoring, chair scrapping along the floor, showering toilet flushing....not a place for peace and quiet. The seats in the bar area and patio area by the bar are all plastic coated seating...not the chairs to sit in when hot. You either stick to them or when you get up you are soaked where you have been sitting. We did ask if the air conditioning could be turned on but were told it was too humid!! The only good thing that can be said about this hotel is that the cleaners and restaurant staff were superb. Would I recommend this hotel only if I hated the person. Be warned if you want a good holiday give the Odyssey Hotel in Kolymbia a miss

Sep 2006, Mr T Goddard

Having read the other differing reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, everything was fine, the hotel is set in lovely grounds, large swimming pool, and ample sun beds. Yes, the pool bar was closed, but the main bar was all of 10 yards from the pool!! The bar staff were very friendly once you go to know them, especially nicos and Constantine who did the evening shift. I never had to queue for more than a couple of minutes any time I wanted a drink. The 'all inclusive' ends at 11pm, there was never a mad rush to get a last drink in before then, anybody queuing was served without any problems, after all you've got all day/evening to get free drinks if you want them!
The food was perfect, really spoilt for choice, fresh, well cooked and plentiful. The restaurant itself was spotless and the staff friendly and efficient.
Rooms were fine, with air-con (which you did need).maids cleaned the rooms and changed the bedding every day without fail.
One slight drawback-the distance to 'town', a 15 minute stroll, but having eaten so much, it was nice to be able to walk it off! In conclusion, a hotel I would thoroughly recommend.

5 / 10
Jul 2006, Miss J Fisher

On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who checked us in and pointed us in the wrong direction to our room! We found it eventually and settled in to our basic but comfortable room.
We took a tour of the facilities which were as described, nice big, clean pool, plenty of sun bathing area and sun beds. The pool bar was never opened and the soft drinks and local beer machine was repaired while we were there and opened for approximately 4 hours before it broke down again and covered up, again. This meant that at any time, day or evening there was only ever one, miserable, discourteous, surly bar person working, to try and dissuade all the guests that the longer the queue the better it was!
The children's drinks were slow to arrive and rarely full up and questioned as to whether they were entitled to drinks. Adults were questioned as to who they were ordering drinks for and how old the person was! My daughter who is 17 was told after 3 alcoholic drinks that she was no longer allowed anymore! (Surely you either get served or you don’t!!) At exactly 2300hrs all drinks had to be paid for, even if you had been queuing for the previous 15 minutes due to the fact that there was only ever one server!
The all-inclusive local cocktails bore no resemblance to the ones that had to be paid for and tasted nothing like them either. The word all inclusive usually means what it says but on this occasion we had to buy any water required and the pizza that was advertised as a snack in the afternoon also had to be paid for!! The toasties that were advertised were not even available so the only snack there, was some leftover cake from the day before! The bus service to the beach went close to the times stated and to stop too many journeys being made, squeezed as many guests in as possible, along with air beds and beach equipment!
We found that this was not a friendly place for children, and the kids were scared to go to the bar on their own, meaning that they were constantly asking for you to go with them, even I felt uncomfortable at times.
Overall Rhodes is a beautiful place but we would recommend that you pick your hotel carefully.

The Hotel is basic but in nice...
5 / 10
Jul 2006, Mr C Williamson

The Hotel is basic but in nice surroundings. The food was found to be reasonable and plentiful. Some snacks were served if you missed the odd lunch but these were limited to a biscuit, cake or if you were lucky the odd roll. The Hotel is isolated and extremely quite except for the Greek Night which was enjoyable. It is advertised as 600M from nightlife but expect to walk 2-3 times that distance before you get to the real centre of Kolymbia. A Bus does run to the beach although you can expect to be crammed in like sardines to go to a pebble beach.
We went All Inclusive and that is where the problems start. Do not expect to get a smile from the single barman regardless of how busy the bar is. This is an All inclusive bar designed to serve as little drink as slowly as possible. Constant disputes at the bar with paying guest being questioned about who the drinks were for. If you are drinking with another couple you may be asked to prove that they are all inclusive guests. This is not a big hotel so it should be obvious to the staff.
If you stay by the pool during a rest day you can expect your children to get the same treatment. Our children aged 15 and 17 were reluctant to go to the bar for soft drinks and several times I had to go to the bar and insist that they were given what they asked for. When asking for a couple of cokes the bar man would shake his head and push a watered down single squash and wave her away. The plan seems to be to make people queue individually to put others off. And it works!
We spent many days away from the hotel to explore Rhodes which is a beautiful island. In the evenings after dinner we ventured to Kolymbia which has a small number of bars where we were treated like royalty by very friendly fun loving bar staff. Most people we spoke to said although it was a nice hotel and food was good, they would not return because of the rude behaviour of the bar staff.

We have just returned from a week's...
10 / 10
Jun 2006, Miss R Ferreira

We have just returned from a week's all inclusive holiday at the Golden Odyssey and where do I start? First of all the location, it is set in beautiful grounds in a pretty area called Kolymbia, not upbeat like Faliraki but perfect if you want a week of pure relaxing.
The hotel itself is perfect although rooms a bit basic, we arrived just before the start of the season so didn’t experience the air conditioning though we needed it. The pool area is so inviting with a large area to sunbathe by the pool and easy access to the bar in the lobby for a quick drink to cool you down.
What can I say about the food - fantastic doesn’t cover it, you were well catered for morning, noon and night with a buffet style menu and plenty to choose from, I could go on forever but you would have to experience it. The Greek night held on a Friday was brilliant, the dancers got you into the right mood and easily persuaded you to join in some fun. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful if you needed it. The Greeks in general are just so pleasant in Rhodes and at the Golden Odyssey. Another place to go and visit for a drink in Kolymbia is the Memories Cafe/Bar, the staff there are just so friendly, drinks are reasonably priced and they want to make you go back there time and time again.
I would recommend hiring a moped for the day as it only costs 10 euros and lets you experience areas of the island at your own leisure. If you are booking independently or through places like Low Cost Beds where transfers aren’t included, no need to pre-book, taxis are plentiful and only cost 23 Euros from airport to Hotel and about 26 euros on return journey.
I would definitely go back to this hotel again and hope that you enjoy it if you decide to book there after reading this review. I am looking forward to booking here again. Missing it already. Hope you all enjoy your holiday.
