have just arrived back after two great weeks at this hotel.was really quite worried after reading some of the reviews but had a fantastic time here !,rooms were very clean food was great ,Chef was lovely man very proud of his meals ,always told us everything was special and it was .I must admit i didnt try everything but my partner did and he was very satisfied and boy can he eat ! .Ahmed and the girls in the restaurant were very pleasant and speedy at clearing tables . best of all were alex and lucy the animatin team they were absolutley great !!!. have had a really relaxing time here okay it is out of the way a bit but thats just what my partner and i were looking for .We are already thinking about booking again for next year. im not sure what some people expect but we had one terrific holiday here and would highly recommend it.only one bad point was woman in shop trying to charge me 5 euros for a book that had obviously been left behind at hotel and wouldnt even do me a swap for 2 of mine !!!!

We have just returned from a week in Rhodes staying at the Golden Odyssey. We found the staff friendly, curteous and helpful. Our room was fine, overlooking the pool. We enjoyed the service of the free bus to the beach and back, it was easy and not overcrowded. We would recommend the Golden Odyssey to anybody for a quiet, relaxing holiday.

the hotel very clean, food limited and always cool, most of the staff were miserable, not many smiles, probably because the owners are about and nagging at staff all day and night, even to the extent they asked bar staff to stop talking to customers and get on with work, the people who made the holiday very enjoyable were animation team alex and roberto, who organised games during the day and evening, their language skills were excellant, they laughed and joked with every nationality, although impeded once again by the owners, who had an 11pm curfew on music, games etc, although this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, would not return unless the same animation team was still there, best of luck to these lovely boys who gave us a very enjoyable holiday

I stayed here from 20/09 to 28/09. The hotel itself i thought was lovely, and our room was really nice, with a great view and always very clean. There was never a problem getting sunbeds, and the pool was great! The bar staff were however very very rude, they were the main let down to the holiday. I asked for a cocktail from the menu and she had a go at me because she didnt know how to make it! afer 11 is a different story....once you are paying for drinks they become the friendliest bar staff you could wish to meet. But during the day you were made to feel like you shouldnt be wasting their time by asking them for anything. the reception staff were lovely, as were the cleaners. The animation team were very friendly and did well. The food was nice, but very much the same thing throughout the week. but we never went hungry and on the whole it was good food. The surrounding area of the hotel is brilliant, we went down to the bars in the town most nights and it was excellant, the people were lovely and the restaurant foods were great. All in all this was a great holiday.

Arrived in the very early hours. Night porter pleasant didn’t speak much English.
Room was basic but spacious; TV with a few English Channels, 2 double beds and a hand held shower and bath. Shutters to windows, which kept out light, Wall to adjacent room was very thin and noise from neighbours could be heard easily.
Swimming pool nice and clean, not brilliant but ok. Daytime entertainments was either pool aerobics or water polo, sun lounges were plentiful and were acceptable.
Food for lunch served at 12.30, didn’t try the breakfast, and was chips, rice and some meat with a selection on salads and cheeses etc. to cater for the other nationalities.
Soft Drinks were out of a self-vending unit, alcohol served by a very pleasant girl during the day and 2 boys in the evening, the dark haired one was very stern and not talkative.
Evening entertainments was bingo, dancing or quiz, the guys (animation Team) who did the daytime and evening entertainment were the same guys and were very pleasant and energetic. - If you like that sort of thing.
The overall impression was good, food hall was good, rooms were good and location was good but in a very quiet spot.

Just returned from a week at this hotel and thought it worth adding our opinions as there seem to be so many varied ones. We arrived in the early hours of the morning and were greeted by the very pleasant night porter who showed us to our rooms, basic but very clean and roomy. One word of warning there is no hair dryer in the room. In the morning we were pleased to see that the grounds of the hotel were well kept and very pretty. The small blocks of rooms are well spaced and no one is overlooked. All the information we needed about meal times and beach shuttle were clearly displayed on the board leading into the bar. The food whilst a little repetitive was extremely well cooked and the staff in the dining room are very prompt at clearing the tables. The bar is well stocked and as with all the staff at the hotel very pleasant. No trouble with getting good spots around the pool and plenty of shaded areas so that you can cool off. The animation team are not pushy and do a very good job. The hotel is ideally situated with buses stopping outside the hotel which call at the major resorts along the cost, average fare 3 euro’s. The town is a 15 minute stroll as is the local beach. The evening entertainment is low key but we managed to have a few good laughs. All in all our holiday was all we expected and more and we are considering returning in the future.

We have just returned from a week’s stay at the Golden Odyssey and have come to the conclusion from reading previous reviews that you either love it or hate it.
After travelling for 12 hours we eventually arrived at the hotel at 4.30 am and just wanted to fall into bed. We were shown to our room (room 702) by an uncommunicative night porter and were immediately shocked by how tatty and uninviting it looked. We then found that the air conditioning didn’t work (it was over 80 degrees), there was only HOT water coming out of all taps in the bathroom and the toilet cistern. The furniture was old and mismatched including two rusty chairs from the outside bar area and there was no headboard so the bed was about 6 inches out from the wall. The main door to the room did not lock securely which was worrying. To cap it all, after getting into bed at 5.00 am we opened the shutters to try and get some air into the room and a group of Germans came along and sat and chatted on the patio area just outside.
We then decided to pack up our things and find another room/hotel if necessary. The night porter was unhelpful and told us we would have to wait for the receptionist to come on duty at 7.00 am. We waited in the reception area for 2 hours, which at least was air conditioned but when we asked if there was anywhere we could get a drink of water we were told categorically no. We were eventually given another room when the day receptionist came on duty. Neither the porter nor the receptionist seemed surprised that we insisted on changing rooms and offered no apology.
The garden room we were then allocated was basic but clean. One of the electric sockets was hanging off the wall so we had to unplug the fridge and tv every time we wanted to use a hairdryer.
We did like the resort of Kolymbia as it was quiet but probably this was about to change as a great deal of building work was taking place. The two beaches were excellent and we spent 5 out of our 7 days there, partly to escape the loud music at the hotel pool which was not conducive to a relaxing holiday. We therefore did not take full advantage of the all inclusive lunch and drinks during the day. There was absolutely no pressure on sun beds and the only hotel we have ever stayed at where the sun beds were not reserved by towels being placed on them.
We agree with previous reviewers about the rudeness of staff, with the exception of two of the bar staff and two waitresses who actually smiled and chatted to us even though their English was limited. Overall we would describe the staff’s attitude as indifferent. There was also a distinct lack of information about the hotel, no information packs in the room, and we were not given details of meal times, checking out times or hotel facilities available by the reception staff.
There were many young couples staying at the hotel and this is maybe the clientele the hotel is trying to attract. We are in our 50s and have always stayed in 4 star hotels but this definitely cannot be classed as such – more like 2 star plus. The food was edible but lacked variety, especially the breakfasts and salads and desserts in the evening. We also did not like the fact that there were no non-smoking areas even in the dining room. This is also the only hotel we have ever stayed in where there was no formal dress code in the evening such as long trousers for men.
Overall we did have an enjoyable holiday in Rhodes despite the G.O. The highlights of the holiday were a trip to Rhodes town and relaxing on the nice beaches. We would like to return to Kolymbia again in future, but definitely not to the Golden Odyssey.

My family booked this hotel before reading the reviews, i wasnt to keen in going after reading, but ignore what people have said. the hotel is lovely and so are the staff including nickos he was great all you need is manors, this holiday is what you make it, the pool is lovely yeah the kids one needs a paint job but its not that bad, there is always a sunbed availible, the rooms are cleaned daily and the cleaning staff are very trusting as i left phones ipods and other expensive stuff in there by accident wich they could have stolen. there is also a little shop in recieption that does most thing you need daily including full fat milk for babys (they love kids). /The beach is about 20mins away but there is a free bus the beach is small but nice and clean, there is also a fresh fruit man trust me try it its lovely. over all a fantastic stay and would go back again but do not fly with monarch they will ruin your first day with there delays and rudness.

i visited the hotel with a friend in july. The accomodation was basic but very clean and the views from the room were amazing! we were in the man building overlooking the pool with a view of the mountains, and the sea.
The food was excellent could not see how anyone can complain not unless they want burger and chips every day! there was always plenty of choice and the food was fresh.
The entertainment team worked very hard and they were real fun!
this is the first ever hotel that i have bstayed at with such a fabulous mixture of nationalities! english, french, italian, dutch, swedish, german, spanish and lots og Greek.... but everyone was extermely friendly.
I agree the bar staff could have been freindlier,,,,, the evening staff were okish but the day staff were just plain miserable!
all in all a good hol for families, couples and singles, would return.

An okay hotel. in need of updating and some refreshing- paint was peeling at the bottom of the kid's pool. Room was basic but very clean, with clean towels and bed linen everyday. Food was average, i am, i must confess a fussy eater but i managed to find something i liked too eat at most meals, even it was just bread, salad and some cheese. The drink however was most certainly watered down, especially the wine and beer. As soon as 11pm came and you had to pay for the drinks the difference in them was unbelieveable! There was entertainment every night, mini disco, bingo and music which was great if you had kids, however myself and my partner went without our little boy, so my advice would be if you dont have kds steer clear, there is only so many times you can listen to bingo in 5 different languages! The staff were nice enough mostly. especially the waitresses, the bar staff though were on the whole horrrid! There is not a great deal to do in Kolymbia a few bars but thats it. All in all, we had a great time but that was mostly to do with the weather and each others company. Would go back to Rhodes in a heartbeat, the Golden Odyssey in Kolymbia? Not so much..........

this is the fourth time that we have been back to this hotel we chose it to stay there in the run up to our wedding at St Pauls Bay in Lindos on 29.05.09. Once again there was nothing to fault our rooms were kept clean, towels changed everyday etc. The animation team Alex and Lucy were spot on really nice people (new faces compared to our visit in May 2008)and restaurant staff were nice especially Ahmed the manager and of course not forgetting Nikos night time bar staff and the lady during the day although i didnt get her name. Some earlier reviews have said that the bar staff are miserable and untalktative but if you make the effort they will too especially if you show willing to learn the greek language its just common courtesy. plenty of sun beds to choose around the pool and the grounds are always maintained. We were the first visitors there to have held our wedding reception there and although there were a bit of confusion in the run up to the day it turned out a brilliant day we certainly have nothing to complain about. It is roughly about 15 mins walk into the town but its perfect when you want to walk off your dinner in the evening.
