We returned from our two week stay at this hotel on 22nd Oct. All the staff were extremely helpful and went that extra mile to accommodate our needs. Our room was large, well furnished with TV. lots of hanging space. Extra hangers were provided within minutes of asking. We had patio doors onto a balcony overlooking the beach. Being a relatively small and friendly hotel we got to know other guests. There is a hotel courtesy bus into Funchal several days a week.
All meals are buffet style so you can help yourself to ask much or as little as you like. Breakfast consists of cereals, fresh or tinned fruit, assorted yogurts, a good assortment of bread rolls and breads, sliced bread for toast, local cakes. Jam, marmalade, honey, bacon baked beans, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, mushrooms occasionally. Ham, other cooked meats and cheese.
Lunch- A choice of meat or fish, selection of vegetables, chips or local potatoes. Sometimes fried corn which I should have asked about, it was similar to polenta but not sure what it was! Assorted Salads. Deserts.
Dinner- soup, an excellent assortment of salad dishes, too many to mention. A fish dish and a meat dish, vegetables, potatoes or chips. Deserts were always typical of Madeira, several choices, quite interesting and delicious or fruit salad.
The food was always regularly topped up so that it was fresh, wasn't standing for long and minimised waste.
Some of the fish on offer was Tuna, Black Scabbard, Halibut, Salmon, Sword fish and others. Tuna all over the island is always well cooked, to me this is a criminal shame as I like it moist and pink in the middle. We all have different tastes!! All the food was of excellent quality.
All alcoholic drinks were freely available as was tea, coffee, fruit juice, water. Espresso coffee was chargeable.
The resort is very pretty, typically Madeiran in style, safe, quiet and well placed to explore the rest of the island if you have the nerve to drive as most of the roads are mountainous. There are several trips on offer at the hotel and there are taxis outside so if you get together with a few other guests and share a mini bus a day out can be very entertaining and relatively cheap I understand. The hotel will provide a packed lunch on request the night before.
If you like small friendly hotels with all the above then this is the place for you!!
