We spent 2 nights at a weekend in the Titanic room. We found the hotel overall rather disappointing.
The threadbare stair carpet is a sign of things to come as you go to the room. The most annoying feature was that we never felt that the staff were there to serve us. They were clearly trying to be friendly but we felt they were going through the motions. The instruction notices all around the room and bathroom about what to do and not gave it a boarding house rather than luxury town house feel and made us feel we couldn't get away from 'the management'.
The very limited and changing breakfast times each day made us feel that we had to fit in to the way their schedule - not what one wants on a weekend away. The room whilst nicely conceived and decorated was rather small, the paintwork peeling on the windows and the tiny bathroom with shower only frankly shabby and tacky for a place charging £150 a night. Not good value for money if one ends up not feeling able to really relax.
We treated ourselves to 3 nights...

We treated ourselves to 3 nights in a beautiful hotel in Brighton. The Brighton Pavilions Hotel was everything we expected with fresh flowers and champagne when we arrived. The hotel staff were really friendly and helpful with parking and anything else we cared to ask about. Luckily for us, there was a heat wave in Brighton when we were there, the atmosphere was more European than English.
I was very surprised to find cheap and tasty restaurants, particularly the 'Bombay Aloo' on Ship Street, which was a 'pure vegetarian' (no meat or eggs) Indian buffet restaurant. The food was incredible and very good value. I also found the cheapest Italian restaurant I have ever visited, also to be found on Ship Street. The Margherita Pizza was only £2.50 - I thought it was a mis-print, but was pleasantly surprised when I found out it was not!
Brighton Pavilion was incredible and well worth a visit. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Brighton and highly recommend the place itself and the Brighton Pavilions Hotel.
