Lovely Hotel.
from Routie10
My husband and I stayed at this hotel from the 11th of June last for one week and enjoyed every minute of it. We stayed on a half board basis which was excellent, great variety of food and excellent quality. People we met who were also staying at this hotel but on a bed and breakfast basis also opted to pay for dinner because of the superb quality, you just couldn't eat out at the same price. If you did wish to eat out there were plenty of bars and restaurants within easy walking distance of the hotel. The local bus which stops quite near the hotel will also take you down into Paphos harbour within 10 minutes. Plenty of sunbeds so no need to rush down in the morning to put on your towels! Staff very friendly. This is a very good 4 star hotel.
A genuine 4 star
from WANEY
This fairly new hotel is a genuine 4 star, The bedroom and bath room were well finished but smallish and could have been fitted with more storage / cupboard space. However that does not detract from the overall ambience of good service levels from friendly and efficient staff. We only had breakfast in the hotel and there was a lack of fresh fruit but otherwise the range and quality was good. There are many bars and restaurants nearby, some of which are of surprisingly good quality. The hotel manager often walked through the hotel and would stop to ask how things were going, he was supported by a bubbly guest sevices manager for whom nothing was too much trouble. We found a mixed age of guests from 20's to seventies but at no time did it feel like "God's waiting room", without exception we all enjoyed the absence of under 16's. There was more than enough sun loungers and it was never necessary to get your towel down early, even by mid morning there was wide availability across the very spacious lawn and all the pool areas. Conclusion... if you seek the peace of not having screaming children in the pool or the entertainment area and you appreciate a 4 star that does not pretend to be a 5 star you should enjoy this hotel. We would return without hesitation.
Beautiful hotel

We have just returned after a two week stay and just wanted to say that this has got to be the best hotel along this stretch of coast. It's only two years old, so everything is still sparkling like new. As there are no children it was very peaceful compared to others - just what we wanted. However, if you're looking for good entertainment, there isn't any, apart from a duo who perform in the bar most evenings. I gather from talking to others that none of the hotels have much to other, as most people tend to go to the bars by the harbour in the evenings. I would recommend that of you have booked a side sea view you will probably be disappointed , as we were. The angle of the building is so acute on one side that you are very close to the next hotel and the air conditioning unit is quite noisy. We asked to be up-graded to a sea view room (£CYP 2.50 each) and had a gorgious room which was also bigger than one other they offered us. They wanted us to be happy, which we were once we waited for four days for this other room. The food is superb - squeeze your own oranges if you like for breakfast and there is a huge selection for evening meal, if you choose to eat there. We weren't disappointed with the hotel and I don't think you will be.
OK for the more mature of us
from Mewithac
Hubby and I have just returned from 4 nights at this destination. We booked this through Thomson and probably much of our rating reflects the poor service we received (or did not receive) from Thomson whilst at this resort. The hotel is ok as far as decor and cleanliness is concerned. Its interior is more modern than reflects the actual majority age group of guests. Being in our early 30's we were by far the youngest here by a clear 30 yr difference and as such the hotel is catered to reflect their needs. It was peaceful during April, even Paphos town was quiet. Our rooms were ok, functional, clean, quiet. Partial sea view did in fact give us some sea view unlike other hotels who purport the same. The annoying background music played throughout the hotel was cheesy, ranging from the The Birdie Song to the Clover Ad!!! And the evening entertainment was not much better - again driven to an older market. The food was poor. Being supplied from really only 1 real restaurant which was buffet style. We were told they had a fine dining restaurant but this was actually closed and we were talked into utilising the buffet restauarant instead. The only night we saw it functioning it was actually providing a birthday party and the only difference we could see was that they were actually being served (as opposed to self service) the same food from the buffet restaurant. Good value for money but if you like half decent food don't bother. I can't say the food in Pahos town was much better either. The pool was a little cold to attempt during this month but the bathing area surrounding the pool seemed ok. You can walk into town fairly easily from here. There is also a very small shop on site with a spa and games room. We wanted to try out the spa but couldn't really see any brand endorsements that we recognised or even any security of knwoeldge that trained masseures were used etc so decided to also give this a miss. On a plus, the staff at this hotel were very helpful, the restaurant manager went out of his way to meet and greet most nights as did the bar staff. But I personally, would not be staying here again.
Good....but not 4* deluxe
from JEM0
I use trip advisor reviews for all the hotels I stay in and this is the first one I have felt the reviews didn't quite meet our experience so I felt obliged to write! We stayed at this hotel whilst in Paphos for a friends wedding. The hotel is advertised in several brochures as 4* deluxe and whilst we didn't have any major specific complaints about the hotel I certainly felt it lacked anything special to distinguish it as luxury 4 star hotel. The rooms weren't large and pretty standard but were fine, clean and had all the basics needed - but did feel they were a little old fashioned and had no wow factor. Agree with the other reviews that it was nice to have no kids about whilst at the pool (v the Athena Beach next door which was quite the opposite - oh and would not recommend lunch there), also plenty of loungers available. Breakfast was fine (though things like tinned fruit and not fresh let it down). Its a 20 minute walk towards the main bar / restaurant areas near the habour, although there are others a 5 - 10 minute walk from the hotel. The wedding we were there for was held in the Elysium Hotel which most certainly did have the wow factor and would definitely be worth any difference in price......
Early To Rise

My wife and I at The Athena Royal Beach Hotel Paphos last week March. (not to be confused with the Athena Beach Hotel located next door) The Hotel is 2 years old and very nice. Its 4 star rating is correct. Travelled with Thomson Holidays. Firstly I do not recommend using them. The Plane we flew on was very old. Rep did not hold meetings in this hotel which ment if you wanted to go to the welcome meeting you had to go next door. Main problem with Hotel was being woken up 6 days out of the 7 by noise from within the Hotel Grounds. Firstly they hoover the Bowling Greens at 7.30am every day. After 4 days of this I complained to the Thomson Hotline, who put me in touch with the Deputy Manager of the Hotel. I was assured this would stop, which it did. but... The following 3 mornings we was woken up by 2 petrol lawn mowers and a petrol hedge trimmer also at 7.20am!! I was not ammused. The Thomson Hotline rep was of no use whatsoever, and kept arranging for me to see the Hotel manager, the last thing you want to do on Holiday. I appreciate that the above items need to be attended to but at 7.30 am is not acceptable, and the Hotel manager agreed with me, however could not do anything about it during our stay as Gardeners under contract. Not much help. Gave us a complimentary Meal on the Friday Night which it turned out got added on to our bill on Check out.. Accident..or very crafty thinking I may not notice?. In my opinion this hotel is more suited to over 50's. Everything appears to be geared around this age group, would not recommended for 18- 40's. Very enjoyable time was had otherwise. Meal out 5 nights (average £47cpr) for 2. First class service in all the better eating places, all within walking distance, 3-4 very nearby and very good.
Second to None

We had just got married and this was our Honeymoon and it felt just like a Honeymoon complex (No children!) On our arrival we were greeted by the concierge offering to take our luggage. Into the great marble entrance lobby we entered towards a friendly reception area. Unfortunatley we were not able to get an upgrade (though as the honeymoon went on we realised we didnt need it!) Friendly staff offered to show us to our room. When we got to our room there were balloons and a message on the door with compliments of the management. The room was very clean and enough space for what we needed, Champagne,Wine, Fruit and complimentry chocolates were waiting in our room. On our first morning there we were early to breakfast (although again we didnt need to be as there was plenty of freshly cooked food and lots of space for all the hotel guests). We were accompanied by the maitre d "Dimitri" who realised straight away it was our first morning and showed us around. After the freshly cooked english brekkie we went for a swim in one of the immaculate pools (plenty of sunbeds to go around). As an overall picture, this hotel had exceptional Customer service, Extremely clean with fantastic and friendly Maid service, Reception staff very helpfull (who spoke many languages) 5/10 min walk from all amenities, restaurants, bars and clubs. Also the theme nights (including flambe night) at the hotel was superb - Highly recommended, we will definately be returning sooner rather than later.:-) We also reccomend visitng "tombs of the kings" and "Aphrodities rock"
Watch The Waistline!
from greenlaner
An exellent hotel with very good facilities, 3 outdoor and 1 indoor pool. Gym, sauna rooms, steam baths, and spa treatment rooms. Finish inside is very good and rooms are good. The Breakfasts are to die for. Anyone who is not entirely satisfied with the huge choice available coupled with the quality must have problems. Half board is all you need , otherwise you will be adding an inch per week to the waistline.. You have been warned.
Loved the Athena royal
from groovy2006
Both my Girlfriend and I were very impressed with the hotel and the staff. Both modern and clean a very relaxing atmosphere. Plenty of bars and places to eat throughtout the day very near the hotel (in the square), and the bus stops right outside the hotel which can take you around paphos. We are in out mid 20's and while the hotel guests are are mainly more maturer (40's upwards) that wasn't an issue, esspecialy if you don't want kids running arround and screaming. There are new bars and shops opening opposite the hotel this year so the choices will be even better in the area. Overall a great hotel and we are planning to return for our honeymoon in 2007.
Great hotel
