I booked my holiday about 10 months in advance for one week self catering in a one bedroomed apartment for myself and my stepson aged 14 at a price of £824. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances my stepson could not travel. On the basis of how much I paid for my week's stay at the Club Alvor Golf I would say that it was not worth it in money terms. As for the hotel itself, my room was on the top floor which had stunning views. It was large and spacious and as previously reviewed "adequate". However, I would not rate this hotel as a 3 star. I agree that the pool area is poor although it is very clean in itself. I did not use the pool facilities favouring the Pestana Alvor Park with my parents who have a timeshare there. The Pestana Alvor Park is rated as a 4 star hotel and on this basis I would rate the Club Alvor Golf to be a 1 star. The reception area was strewn with wet towels due to a leak in the ceiling. The floor was soaking wet during my whole stay. It was like an episode of Faulty Towers. I found the staff to be lacking in manners and was never once greeted entering or leaving the hotel. I loved Alvor and thoroughly enjoyed the 30 minute walk from the hotel to my parents accommodation every morning. The beach is fantastic. I feel that my rating of 2 is very generous indeed and would only ever return to the Club Alvor Golf to shoot the neighbouring cockeral which woke me up every morning at 3.45am!!!

I think the previous reviewer is a bit harsh! We read all the negative reviews before we booked but decided that it was either that or a caravan in England and so decided to take the plunge and risk it. We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Club Alvor Golf and yes they are rather tired looking. However, you do get what you pay for and 2 weeks for 3 adults including flights in peak season at just over £900 - what more can I say! Yes the appartments are in need of a complete refurb and no where near as good as any of the other places we have stayed at in Alvor previously but for what we paid I do not feel that we can complain at all. We found the reception staff to be friendly and the maid came in 5 times a week and our bedding and towels changed regularly. We were fortunate and overlooked the front of the building and even had a bit of a sea view (in the distance). I would recommend ear plugs though as there are some cockerals in a small holding next door which can keep you awake at night. The appartments at the back probably overlooked some waste land though which would not be as pleasant. It is a bit of a walk in to Alvor (took us about 15 minutes each evening) but look at the positive side to it - you can walk off some of the calories from some of the gorgeous meals that you are going to have in the lovely restaurants in Alvor. If you know Alvor, you will know that the beach is further away from the town and so we found that having a car during our stay meant that we could use it to go to alvor beach and some of the lovely surrounding beaches without having a long walk or relying on the courtesy bus. To sum up - if you want luxury then this is definitely not the place for you but for anyone on a budget who doesn't mind walking then it is ok. One other negative though - the beds are a bit uncomfortable but we got used to them!

i dont really no were to begin about these abismal appartments.we arrived on the first day stepped out of the taxi and a feeling of dreadhit us straight away they were like something out of the dark ages.we walked into reception to be met by a very surly girl we asked her were the bar was she pointed behind her my husband thought she was joking and then she informed us there was no resturant we thought 'YOUVE BEEN FRAMED'. we went up in to our room are should i say dungeon, with two very dissapointed young children the rooms were absoulutley disgusting smelly,a brown toilet an bath to match that even bleach wouldnt clean and cracked tiles everywhere. needless to say we didnt even get unpacked. My two children crying with sheer disappointment,we got on the phone and were moved within four hours along with two other couples who were not with us. we were moved to superb 3 star appartments in praia da vou. Please take my advice and give these dungeons a miss. Although i would go back to alvor as it is stunning

This was our second time in Alvor, but our first at the Club Alvor Golf Apartments. First the positives: apartments were clean, spacious and staff were very friendly. Negatives: a little bit too far outside the town (15-20 mins walk), pool area is poor (we used the Quinta Nova pool 100yards down the road), no snack bar, closest restraunt/bar was about 10mins walk away (not including Quinta Nova complex).

We paid about £660 per couple for a 2 week stay, which was considerably cheaper than anywhere else in Alvor. In terms of value for money, the apartments were great. We would go back tomorrow if we had the chance!

Alvor probably has the best restraunts in the Med, the bars are really good, and during our 2 week stay the weather was fantastic, so it is difficult to complain about anything.

Alvor is beautiful and a fantastic place to holiday. Club Alvor Golf was a great disappointment. The room was clean and that is the only positive I can say. The furniture was shoddy, cracked tiles in the bathroom and we had a very strange odour in our apartment constantly. We where woken every morning at 6 by the cockerel on the neighbouring farm.

The amenities did not exist. The reception area was the bar, the bar was an empty room and the restaurant was closed but used by the staff to dump laundry. The board outside promised a number of amenities and events to which we found none. The pool area while sunny was a good sun trap however.

Their was no welcome pack and when I asked about a shop near by to buy water I was informed that being a Sunday it was closed. Some of the staff where sarcastic and a bit on the rude side. Alvor is great, Club Alvor Golf is terrible.

If you go into Alvor you will find a number of lovely restaurants and bars. Most of them you will find value for money, good food and friendly locals. I will look forward to visiting Alvor again.

Alvor Golf Apartments were really nice and very spacious. Not a very good location it was over half an hour walk to the first restaurant, bar or shop.

When we arrived there outside it had advertisement entertainment such as karaoke, Quiz etc, as it did on the internet says there was day and night entertainment, also says there is a snack bar and a bar there was none of them.

If you wanted the remote control for the television in your room you had to pay 20euro plus a 10euro deposit . Also throughout the apartments there is no air conditioning including your room.

Staff were lovely, Portugal is a gorgeous place with Pleasant people and the most fantastic beaches i have seen.

I would go back to Portugal Alvor is a beautiful place but I would not go to Alvor golf apartments and would not recommend it to any one, and the photo that is shown on the internet of the pool it is nothing like the pool, the one they show you on the internet is bigger.

Just a few comments on `club alvor golf apartments`

Room is quite nice and spacious, very clean although decor is controversial!!! Although room was catered for self catering, utensils were from the dark ages!!! Pool area is small and beds are limited.

If you want a good day out go to praia da rocha`s beach, it is gorgeous and very clean it is about 15mins in a taxi costs 6euros`s, worth it though. Nothing really to do at the hotel, no entertainment or bar/restaurant. Supermarket is a 5min walk but has hardly anything in it!!!

For a good night out go to Praia Da Rocha, has loads of bars and restaurants, good for couples or families. Food isn’t great though!!! Watch out for cockroaches and ants in some restaurants!!

For the best day out go to Zoomarina, absolutely fantastic, its worth coming to Portugal alone for!! Suitable for all ages to enjoy, recommend the dolphin show and the 4D cinema, brilliant!!!

Slide and splash is a great day out too but make sure you take a umbrella for some shade, otherwise it costs 18.50 to buy one once you’re in there!!!

Although there are some negative comments, the holiday was still really good!!!

The apartment block itself was basic, but had all the necessary facilities. It was clean and tidy. The pool area was clean and safe, with enough sun loungers to save squabbles!

We were 1 mile from town, but there was a courtesy bus 4 times per day to get you to the town centre and the beach.

The town itself was small and quiet, which we found ideal as we had our two children aged 2 and 9 yrs. As yet the town is relatively unspoiled and has yet to become a loud, brash resort full of clubs and bars. There could be more for the kids to do in town, but I expect this will happen as more land is developed to accommodate more apartment blocks! The beach was clean and safe with a good number of lifeguards on hand.

All in all, we enjoyed this holiday which I would recommend to anyone with small children - although I would say your pushchair is essential due to the steep streets!

These apartments are situated in a quiet rural area approximately half an hours walk to the beach but only 15-20 minutes walk to the town with pavements all the way. There is plenty of parking at the lovely clean beach but parking is very limited in town as it is a typical Portuguese village with narrow streets and lots of one ways! There is a hotel bus Monday to Saturday 3 times a day.

When walking to the town don't follow the road the cars would take - go straight on where there is no entry to cars and this cuts off quite a bit. The apartment was clean and had a huge living area with good sized bedroom and plenty of storage space. The kitchenette was small and the fridge and toaster had seen better days! There was a hob but no oven, however there was a microwave. The bathroom decor was a bit tired but it had been well cleaned.

We also had a small balcony area with a couple of chairs. There is a quiet bar but no restaurant, however in Alvor there are so many bars and great restaurants you will be spoiled for choice. There is a small pool which is fairly deep and there always seemed to be plenty of sun loungers available.

There is a very small paddling pool for under 4's only away from the main pool. Reception was open 24 hours a day and the staff were polite and helpful. This was very good value for money and a good clean base to enjoy Alvor, however I do not think these apartments would be suitable if you are less mobile or have small children.

The apartment was clean and tidy with maid service every two days. The beds extremely hard and pillows tiny. There is no restaurant at the hotel and the bar only sells toasted sandwiches. The apartment is set in a rural locations, dogs bark most of the night and there is a lot of new construction going on.

The hotel is about two miles from the beach/town. There is a bus Monday to Saturday between 10am - 5pm dropping off/picking up every two hours. There is no baby seat.

If arriving on Sunday, ensure all ready stocked up as resort shop not open Sunday.
