Great staff, good atmosphere; shame about the rooms!
from Soothsayer
Just returned from a two week holiday in Hisaronu at Lagoon Hotel. Although a rather shabby looking exterior and reception area, this hotel proved to be a good choice among similarly rated hotels here. A great bunch of staff who were warm, friendly and charming helped to make this a memorable stay. The rooms, however, were a little meagre to say the least (however, the showers were pretty powerful compared to other hotels we have stayed in) but the fantastic weather and great pool facilities meant that fairly minimal time was spent in the rooms. We highly recommend the air conditioning at £3 per day - as it does get quite oppressive at times. The hotel is situated about 5 mins walk away from the pretty heavily commericalised main town of Hisaronu, where plenty of Dolmus buses and taxis are availalbe to take tourists down to the famous and much photographed beach of Olu Deniz, for instance, which is approx 15mins away and will cost £2.50 per trip. There are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants all over the place, so plenty of choice to cater for all tastes. The "ghost village" of Kaya (also known as Kayakoy) just 10 mins away, is historic and most interesting with quite a few little bars and restaurants around but we were recommended to try the Sarnic boutique restaurant here (www.kayakoy-sarnic.com) which proved to be a most tranquil and idyllic retreat away from the hustle and bustle of Hisaronu just 6km away, and served the most delicious freshly prepared salads. There are jeep trips, paragliding trips, boat trips, historic site trips, turkish bath trips etc etc so no excuse not to find something to do other than simply lazing around a mountainside pool sipping on your sangria! There was a good range of guests staying at the 40-roomed hotel during our stay, and, amazingly quite a few other teenagers which kept our two 15 year olds amused. Turkish nights are held at the hotel every Saturday and the guests are of course encouraged to go along and join in as are non-residents. Dalaman airport is very expensive, so stock up on water and eats before departing rather than over spending. YTL or Sterling were favoured currency and we advise that you pay for bar drinks and snacks as you go, rather than run up a tab as this can be difficult to keep track of! All in all, it was a great two week break for us all and we would recommend the hotel as long as not a great deal is expected of one's accommodation.
8.5 out of 10 Very good week at the Lagoon

Just got back and had a great weeks holiday here. Yes its 2 star and rooms are very basic but we didn’t stay in them a lot. And it has everything you need - shower, toilet, bed! Plenty of room for 2 sharing although balconies are small. Air con needs to be hired. We didn’t bother as it didn’t feel too hot in the evenings/night despite being 30 degress at 7.30pm. Our room faced the pool so didnt get direct sunlight until the evening which is maybe why it was cooler? Didn’t bother with safety deposit boxes as there’s not much crime. Dunno where the fridge was which I thought we were getting! The pool area is nice, staff are friendly / helpful Breakfast is fine if you like melon cucumber cheese tomato olives, hard boiled eggs and bread with jam / honey. Only annoyance was loads of signs up saying don’t bring food / drink into hotel. Sorry but don’t see why I should have to buy a drink from the bar if I want to drink in the room. Same with a snack. Only ate at pool on last day – thought it was a bit expensive for what you got. It’s a 2* hotel charging same prices as places on the main street other back street hotels were slightly cheaper for beers / food etc. Hotel Turkish night was ok for £10 meze food and entertainment I was expecting the lagoon beach to be a bit nicer – main beach is stoney, lagoon area is shingly – costs £1.28 to get into blue lagoon beach. I thought the dolmus ride from Hisaronu to Oludeniz was going to be by a battered old mini bus costing about 30p. Instead you get nice Ford Transits which cost about £1.06 for a 5-10 min ride to beach. You could probably walk the 3/4/5 km down but certainly wouldn’t walk up as it is quite steep. Turkish people are friendly and they do encourage you into their shops / restaurants but this is the same as Greece / Spain and is probably less hassle. Currency you can pay for things in Turkish Lira (better rate out there than in UK) or they love British notes. We paid for everything in a mixture of both. Don’t bother going to banks or exchange places – uses supermarkets, bars, restaurants who give a better rate. They dont have post boxes you have to post anything at the PTT (post office), although you can get stamps from the shops. You have to take to the PTT and hand over the counter - make sure you dont get charged twice. Dalaman airport is a rip off they have Mcdonalds and pizza hut but expect to pay double UK prices. Take your own food and water – they have no liquids ban out there. Trips – we did the paragliding – which was excellent price varies between £45-£65 for a 30-50 minute flight. Boat trip round the bay £5 including pick up / transfer and lunch. Cruise around to a few bays etc. For a fiver a day ouot on a boat is good value. Jeep safari is more like a road trip. Very little off roading, but £14 for a full day out is good value. Trips do seem a lot cheaper than Greece, Spain etc. We visited a trout farm, some ruins, the gorge, mud bath and a beech Turkey is a lovely place, very cheap as they are not in the EU (although they do accept the Euro). Word of warning – mosquitos are rife. Take sprays, creams, plugs, (air con might prevent as well). I had a very enjoyable week in Turkey (first visit) and it was great but overall cant give it 10 out of 10. Taking everything into account I reckon a very good 8.5 out of 10.
Great hotel and staff!

I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at the Hotel Lagoon! From day one we were made to feel very welcome and you got the feeling the staff couldn't do enough to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, there was a real family feel to the place, with the 4 brothers led by Jamie looking after us. They have a good 'english' selection for lunch and a full dinner menu in the evening, and they had a big fridge full of cold water and ice creams! The pool is a good size with plenty of sunbeds around it and never felt busy, although we were fortunate that the hotel was only half full while we were there. One thing to note, there is air con in the rooms (which is a godsend) but you have to pay extra for it, it is only £3 a day and is worth the investment. Also, dependant on occupancy you can keep you room on for a £10 charge, we were meant to check out on the last day at midday but our flight transfer wasn't until midnight, so keeping the room on was excellent, and allowed us to go on a boat trip for the day, come back, shower and pack and still have time to go out for a final meal before leaving. I can also recommend visiting Nasif in the in house barber shop for a shave (£2) or a full massage (£10)! The only negative point about the hotel is that the rooms are very basic and have small balconeys. You pretty much get just a bed and a wardrobe so if you like to spend time in the room or on the balconey it may not be best for you but this really is a tiny fault in a superb stay. We got used to the basic'ness after a day. There is no beach at Hisaronu but the lovely beach at Olu Duniz is only 10 mins in a bus (which run frequently from the town). The town centre is only a 5 minute walk away and is quite busy with many bars and resturaunts. The town felt very safe though and is all pedestrianised with familes and couples walking around well after midnight. I can recommend the Mediterainne and the Marina for great food and Effes bar for good drinks! Everyone in the bars and restuaraunts are very friendly as well. if you like shopping you'll love this town with many shops selling 'designer' brands. 3 pairs of 'designer' jeans for £30, handbags, sunglasses, shoes, tops, and it's all cheap as chips . If you like your (fake) 'designer 'goods' take a spare suitcase, you can buy 3 pairs of 'designer' jeans, 2 pairs of trainers, half a dozen polo shirts and a dozen pair of 'designer' boxer shorts for under £100! My other half got two 'Prada' handbags for £25. if you dont have a spare suitcase you can by a 'Luis Vyton' one for £30! I can also recommend one of the many boat trips. There are many companies offering this and most are just brokers selling seats for the trips. We went on the Olu Duniz trip through hamish McTurk which was run by the locals and a great day out. The Butterfly canyon and Cleopatra's bath are amazing. And we went on the 12 island trip through Carole tayloe. While this trip had the advantage of an English rep you were left felling uneducated as nothing was said about nay of the islands, and it is more for people who like swimming in the sea. But most of the trips are under £10 a person which included lunch and transfers. I would recommend spending half a day at Butterfly Canyon and you can get a boat taxi there. It is 10lira to go into the canyon and quite a trek. You will only get an hour here on most of the boat trips and it would take 3 times this to climb to the top of the canyon to see the waterfall and the stonehouse and climb back down, and wear some good shoes as you have to climb over fallen boulders to get to the top!
Best Holiday Ever!!
from priness24
My partner and I stayed in the Lagoon Hotel for 2 weeks at the end of June and it was the best holiday we have ever had. The hotel rooms are basic but very clean. Extra pillows etc are available if you ask! The hotel only has 40 rooms so you get that real personal touch, the staff could not do enough for you and Jamie the barman was a cracker, we miss you all already! The pool was a good size and we never had to fight for a sunbed, even if we didn' t get there till lunchtime. The food in the hotel is lovely especially the BBQ they have on Turkish Night and the Fish on Salt (highly recommended). Hakan the owner was excellent, went out of his way to make the guests feel welome and treated us VERY well! 10/10 for everything! We would definately go back to Hisaronu, the place and people are lovely, no hassle and lots to do for those who like to see the sites and history of the country and you must go and visit the Blue Lagoon in Olu Deniz - Stunning Cant wait to go back next year! xx
rooms described as basic....UNDERSTATEMENT!!!!

I read all of these reviews before visiting hotel lagoon. on arrival we were taken to the smallest hotel room i have ever stayed in let alone as a family of four. my fiance and i stayed here for 2 weeks with my 2 sons. i was worried about the state of the cot we would receive and i was right to it was so dirty i didn't even want my baby to sleep in there. also the beds have got to be the most uncomfortable i have ever slept on, but neverthe less you can't have everything. it seemed with this hotel you can't have anything. so it was a very small room with a single bed for my 4 year old alongside were 2 single beds pushed together and touching the other side was the dirty travel cot. so it ws this room and a small bathroom attached. there was no plug so there was no way for me to bath my baby so i had to wash him not give him a proper bath in the sink for 2 weeks. the toilet was discusting. i don't want to be vulgar but there was raging skid marks (which were more like a flattend poo) in the bottom of the pan before we got there and there they remained no matter how much i tried to clean it with the equally discusting loo brush. i literally attempted to find nice toilets in restaurants to go i dreaded our one so much. indeed the cleaner does leave flowers on your bed but she does not clean your toilet and i wish you would just use some bleach. also i found that indeed there are enough sun beds but half of these aren't in the sun until about 3. i found some of the lads a laugh but the manager was very rude indeed. calling us out of the pool on the first day so we could show him paper work. i am not sure why we weren't asked for this when we arrived and checked in. we have a baby and had to hire a fridge for £3 a day. also if you pay in lira they screw you over with an outrageous exchange rate. on the plus side there is a barbers there and the food is lovely as long as you don't eatthere. unless you enjoy chicken described as grilled yet has been fried!!
Excellent!!

Having never been to Turkey before we were a little apprehensive, but I can honestly say this was one of the best holidays we have ever had. Lagoon Hotel is in an excellent position, 5-10 mins walk from the centre of Hisaronu so you don't get any of the noise from the road or the bars. We had a family room (3 single beds) rooms are basic but very clean. The maid comes every day and even leaves flowers on your bed which is a nice touch. The staff are very friendly, breakfast is the normal, bread, fruit, yoghurt, but the evening meals are really good, as are the poolside snacks. The resort of Hisaronu is lovely, we definately recommend the Suntrap Restaurant for food, we had two excellent meals while we were there (the lamb is fantastic) and the staff are very friendly and can't do enough for you. The Lycheen Cocktail bar is good fun too, Adam the waiter is lovely, always smiling and really helpful even after just 3 hours sleep. The Oh Yes Cocktail bar is another one, the owner Morat is really friendly although is friend Cameron can be a little overpowering!! We are already looking into booking again for next year maybe going to Olu Deniz as the beach is fab and it's great to sit in one of the bars with the beach bean bags and watch the sun do down. I would highly recommend anyone to visit here we were really sorry to leave.
Can't find fault

Lagoon Hotel ,Hisaronu Went with my son and a friend who also took her son. This was my 3rd trip to Turkey. I was pleasantly surprised to see Lagoon Hotel (not to be mixed up with The Lagoon Hotel). I booked last minute as it's cheaper, went onto [--]and booked from there, I find that site cheaper than anywhere else. Other people had paid £200 more than us for the same hotel and same board basis, so it's worth shopping around. The hotel is situated 5 mins walk from the main shopping area but that's good because you are away from the hustle and bustle. The staff are very friendly and the food was great. Although its rated as a 3* hotel my friend and I agree that it is better than that and should be highly rated. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to go to Hisaronu. It is a short trip away from Olu Deniz and the famous lagoon.I went Microlighting and it was amazing to see Olu Deniz and the lagoon from the air! Every time I go to Turkey I feel so safe, it's like..being home if not safer! The people are so friendly and bend backwards to help with anything. I would not book excursions from the hotel, work out cheaper to go into town and book from there as there is so much competition and you can haggle with the prices. It is worth going to Saklikent, we hired a car and drove there, if you have the confidence it's better to hire a car for the day as it works out cheaper too aspecially if there are more than 3-4 people travelling. Trip to Fethiye market is a must!! Hisaronu market is Mondays and I think Fethiye is Wednesday, you will see many friendly and familiar faces. I just love my trips to Turkey and the food is to die for, also the shopping..more shopping! I don't know anyone who was dissapointed on a trip to Turkey, it's home from home! Am thinking of going to Egypt this year..any tips anyone? am one for sightseeing and not one for the pool or beach! Stay in Cairo or elsewhere? hoping to take my grandson and also the friend if she is available!
loved this hotel

My wife and I booked this holiday a week before travelling. We were in need of a complete, chill out break. We have never travelled to Turkey before and were a little nervous. However, we had absolutely no need to worry as this was the best holiday we've ever had. The hotel is in a quiet part of Hisaronu but only a short 5 minute walk from the centre, so the best of both worlds. The hotel is run by a very helpful Manager and his wife who is english. Their knowledge of the area, trips, culture etc and thier proffesionalism was second to none and nothing was too much trouble for them. In fact, all of the staff at the Lagoon were helpful, fun, polite and made our stay. The rooms are very clean and bright. Our room was overlooking the pool. The hotel has a lovely buffet breakfast with lots of choice and a seperate menu to order from. There is an extensive day time menu to order from. During the evening, an a la carte menu is available and the food was delicious, particularly the turkish specialities. The restaurant is set around the pool which has a water fountain and is very pretty. The bar staff are fantastic, really good fun and the bar stays open until the last person leaves. The pool area is very spacious, clean and there were always plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas to go round so no getting up early to reserve beds! There is also a turkish style seating area to chill out in by the pool, fantastic with a large beer! Our rep service was quite non descript so we used the services of the hotel to book all of our trips and every single one of them was spot on. The hotel organise a turkish bbq evening which includes traditional dancers which was spectacular. We also went to a really fun quiz night and a few themed nights. The area of Hisaronu is quite lively with lots of bars and restaurants to suit all different tastes. Olu Deniz is about 10 minutes away in a bus and is where the beach and lagoon are. Very pretty beaches and stunning scenery. A 15 minute bus ride takes you into the harbour town of Fethiye. Lots of good shopping here especially the huge market. Our favourite trip was our day out cruising around the bays and coastline, very chilled, good quality boats and the best sunset I have ever seen. The turkish people are some of the friendliest I have encountered and always greeted you with a smile. I have to admit that I was a little concerned before we left about safety, particularly in the light of recent events, but I can honestly say that my wife and I have never felt safer in any other country we have visited, including the UK. We came back completely relaxed and the hotel and staff are to thank for that. There is a lovely family atmousphere at this hotel, everyone was happy and relaxed and there were also a lot of repeat guests which says it all really. We made many friends, both local and guests and staff at the hotel and have already booked to return next summer. I would thoroughly recommend the Lagoon to anyone wanting a relaxed holiday in friendly surroundings.

turkey is hot, so buy good high factor cream. big tip, buy moskitoes spray for your room, and repellent. on arrival. most people got bitten some needed hospital treatment, costing £50-70 so for the sake of £3 and no bites do it. hotel, basic rooms but spotless nice shower, note towels only change twice a week, air conditioning can be obtained at £20 per week extra, however if in basement rooms are cool pool beautiful, warm, staff warm friendly will do any thing to please. location excellent you are 200 yds from all the restaurants , try the oasis, you will walk passed it before you reach the main road, food is excellent, staff give you time, and love we spend over two hours there nightly bus transport to the sea, is every few minutes,go to udense, the blue lagoon, third best beach in the world, kids of all ages will love it. big tip unless you are 16-20 do not bother to go on the boat trips, they are a waste of a day, they treat you like cattle, they take you to rocks that unless you are young are extremely dangerous , 80% of all people i spoke to did not enjoy the 8 hour trip. tip just relax and soak up the sun and the people

Spent two weeks here and absolutley loved it. Was with my fiance who had never been to Turkey before and was very impressed. Our room was very clean and over looked the pool. The maid was lovely and we always had fresh flowers in our room. The pool area is huge with lots of sun loungers and umbrellas, again the pool was the cleanest I've ever seen. We stayed on bed & breakfast which was plentiful and tasty. The hotel serves food throughout the day and has a restaurant set out around the pool in the evenings. The food was excellent, especially the turkish dishes. We found both the food and drink to be the cheapest in Hisaronu. All of the staff were the best, very kind and helpful, nothing was too much. The management here are excellent, friendly, informative, kind and very professional. I would definitely go back to this hotel and would recommend it to anyone. Although it is rated as two star, the service, facilities, staff and management are second to none, it deserves to be rated much higher. A gem. Hisaronu is just a short walk away and is quite lively and fun. The beach in Olu Deniz is very pretty but it is much hotter there. Fethiye is a lovely town to visit at night. We found a lovely italian restaurant opposite the harbour called La Seronata. The Tuesday market is a must but be prepared to barter hard!
Thıs hotel ıs located close to town but up a scary dark road so dont walk alone!! Room very basıc but has what you need. Extra pıllows would be nıce and a tele. staff a bıt overpowerıng especıally to women and do not get the message when you say you are not... more
