Ok apartments, shame about the music. We stayed at the end of May 2010 for 10 days, and although some of the reviews said it was a bit dodgy, we were pleasantly surprised, obviously it had been refurbished (we were in Room 509), clean, tidy, and met our expectations, BUT no... more

Gorgeous view
Babalu Apartments has been one of our favourites in Puerto Rico. Over 20 years we have spent our hols in Puerto Rico and stayed in Babalu several times. Last time we stayed in sixth floor (top). Visited friends in Babalu last December and nothing has changed since our last stay. Friendly staff in reception. Rooms cleaned 5 days a week by a lovely Spanish woman. Basic equipped. TV with coin box. Deposit with code in bedroom. Huge balcony with gorgeous view, especially from upper floors. Spacious pool area. We feel safe, all guest have to walk through the reception in the sixth floor. Beside the reception you'll find a small supermarket. Babalu is situated on the top of Puerto Rico. 150-200m to CC (Centro Comercial) Europa and CC Family, which has many shops and restaurants. If you want to go to main CC or beach (approx 600 steps down!!) in Puerto Rico or Amadores beach you can walk down. Taxi cost around €3, one way. Bus 0,90. Can recommend Babalu to anyone who don't search for a luxuriously holiday. Great location, view and plain apartment.
great holiday
Had a great holiday at babalu. All you need is there except perhaps a toaster!!!!!!!! Enjoyed walk down to front of resort but used taxi going up.They are very cheap.3 euros. Babalu is very convenient for the europa centre and the barbacoa which has free entertainment every night .I would go back.We enjoyed our time in Puerto Rico.
Great Basic Family Appt.
Excellent holiday for families with young children - three pools and a play area. Pool side bar staff very friendly and even played footbll and table tennis with my young son during quiet periods. Appts very clean with cleaning service 6 days out of 7, clean towels every other day and clean sheets 3 times per week. Poolside bar serves limted but delicious snacks and light meals throughout the day up until around 10pm. Excellent value for money - especially at Happy Hour! Cats not a huge problem, saw three mainly around lunchtime. Shame about the kitchen amenities - kettle and toaster available to hire from reception which was manned 24/7 Europa center with restaurants, bars and shops only a few minutes walk away. Mini Market right outsde reception which is a little pricier than the supermarket at the europa center but great for convenience! Taxis to the playa puerto rico and the main resort centre only 2.5 euros or 90 cents on the bus. Would not recomment the new amadores beach - gritty sand that once you get into the water is lke quicksand - buried to your ankles before you know it!! Would definitely stay here again.
.....
Me n my 2friends went to this hotel for 2wks on the 24th July this year. Got there and it looked fab just like in the picture. Unpacked our suitcases and me n my friend went to get a safety deposit box from the reception...no-one was there so we waited about 10mins still no show of any1 so we just left it what harm could be dun if we hid all our valubles which we done with the passports, money etc in our suitcases we thought it would be safe enough there, well wrong...one of my friends had left her money in her handluggage bag which was in the lounge. It was a big bag but someone would have needed to move the bin which was infront of it to get to the bag...well as we headed out to return about 4hours later after being to the pool we decided we were too tired to go out that night, so we stayed in. Didnt need any money so my friend didnt need to make sure her money was there, next morning got up early for the welcome meeting, as me n my other friend got dressed Jemma realised that all her money was gone out of her bag..wow great start!! Headed to the welcome meeting after tearing the apartment apart....wasnt there! Rep advised us to go to police station but we needed to pay the translator to take us. So our second day we spent searchin for money which had clearly been nicked and then another hour in a foreign police station. When we returned to the hotel we decided we were going to hang out at the pool and chill...thats when we met a family who also THAT DAY went to the police station because they had also had theyre money stolen although theyre apartment window was broke obviousley had to get a way in...although our apartment was exactly the way we left it, so its obviousley an inside job...someone who has the keys is getting all the money that you save up all year round for. Would never go back to this hotel and if you want to go to this hotel keep in mind you'll no doubt be another target to get your money stolen. Also 6th day my mobile went missin during the night. Had a fab holiday...Gran Canaria is fab but I would definately never #return to this hotel in a million years.
good
very clean
very good
it was a nice place to stay beds were bit hard but u get ued to them very clean
very good
We stayed in the babalu 4/6/06 for one week , after reading some reports on this site i was a little worried about staying at the babalu. we had no need to worry we were a group of 19 with ages rating from 2 to 62. Rooms were very clean and our room was cleaned 6 days out of 7, the maids even washed up for us. balconys were very big. pools were brill and all staff were very friendly, everyone that was in our group said that they would def stop at babalu again ( this coming from my mam and dad who normally pay 3k for 2 weeks in palma nova) . yes there is cats but not loads of them and they only there at 8am in morning. So dont belive all the bad reports some people expect a home from home on holiday.
Basic but pleasant
Stayed at the Babalu Apartments, Puerto Rico first week in April. Apartments are very basic and initially we were a little disappointed with the standard as this was not in our opinion a 'cheap' holiday. Self catering facilities are minimal (no kettle, toaster or microwave) although you can hire these from reception! which annoyed us even more. Failing that, we had a great holiday. Maid cleaned 4 times, clean towels nearly everyday and bedding changed once. Pools are brill! Music around the pool pleasant enough to listen to, started around 10am and finished around 11pm depending if anyone was round the bar or not. Palm trees round pool and apartments just like picture in brochure. Only saw 2 cockroaches (not in room!) and about 5 cats, but only first thing in the morning or at night (no cat mess!). Can imagine it being very different at peak times, i.e noise levels, lack of sunbeds, but it was just right for us and the weather was fab. Just beware, it is at the top of Puerto Rico near Europa Centre, which has shops and restaurants but if you want to go to main Commercial Centre or beach (approx 600 steps down!!) in Puerto Rico or Amadores beach (gorgeus)you can walk down but you need to get taxi back, but it only cost around 3 euros. Happy holidays!!!!!
My Opinion
We booked this holiday through our local travel agent as it was the cheapest deal we could find in the school holidays. We were a little worried that the apartments are listed as only one star and were even more concerned after reading some of the reviews. We set of expecting the worst but were very plesantly suprised when we arrived. To respond to some of the problems raised - Our apartment was on the ground floor and was very well presented. The room was cleaned 4 times while we were there and the sheets changed three times The poolbar played music from 10am till about 11:30pm. The music was at an acceptable level except for the start of happy hour when it was turned up slightly to anounce the start but then returned to a lower level. At about 10pm the music was turned even lower to allow children to sleep. Externally all apartments were painted white, there are palm trees all around the pool and plants in flower beds. The pool was cleaned every day at about 8:30am The beds are quite hard but nothing too difficult to get used to (I recommend taking your own pillow) There is no kettle in the apartment but we boiled water in the pan. Over all this apartment deserves at least two stars!!. The only downside is the the balcony of the apartment above is on top of your bedroom. Therefore we were woke a few times by the people moving furniture (chairs/table) around.
Hilly
My wife and myself have just spent a week ay the babalu apts. peurto rico.arriving there on the 24th. dec. and returning home on the 31st. dec. on our arrival we discovered we were staying at the top of a mountain. our apt. was on the second floor of a seven floor complex. the first problem we experienced was the tv. i inserted two coins in same which stuck in the meter. this was reported seven times, eventually after three days we got the tv. replaced. we have yet to receive any refund for money lost. Second problem was the apts. being placed at the top of a mountain which meant if one even walked down the steep roads to the beach on returning to your apt. there was no way we could climb up the hill again. to return to your apt. we found we had to queue for long a period of time to get a taxi. (local taxis must make a fortune in this area.) The next complaint would be the continuos noise and bad langauge which occurred every morning between approx. 0400 hrs and 06oo hrs. went i mentioned this to reception they replied, we heard nothing. this dosent surprise me as the reception was on the seventh floor and the design of the apts. which were built into the mountain face meant the reception was further awaw from the noise. the apts. themselves were basic to say the least. finally i would not even consider recomending these apts. to anyone. i myself will never return to them. i will most definitely return to this part of the canaries but next time i will make sure we are at ground level.
