Have just come back from two weeks at the El Hana Residence. To anyone going there that is worried, well don’t be. It was a lovely hotel and everyone was so friendly, from the hotel management right down to the maid.
The hotel pool was really clean. We had a family room and it was really big and clean. The maid came in everyday, the towels were changed everyday. The hotel is situated just across the road from the beach and the shops are just across the other road.
We had a really great time.

The staff at the El Hana were very friendly and helpful.
The resort was fairly quiet at this time of year, but it was a relaxing place to be and the weather was fine.
The food in the hotel itself was not amazing - in fact it was quite poor - and was not authentic to the region, but just across the road in Rue Mongi Slim there was a restaurant called Tej Noura, which was really excellent and good value, where we went most evenings.
The beach is lovely and stretches for miles. A good place for families.
Panorama were below standard and changed our flight three times in total.

Well I'm back from 10 days at the El Hana Residence Hotel and a 4 star it really isn't!
I've visited Sousse around 8 times over the last 2 years but have never stayed in this hotel before. All other times I've stayed in Karthago El Ksar and although I'd say its not quite a 4 star, its so much better than the El Hana Residence.
I was there with my boyfriend and another couple and we all found the hotel to be VERY dated, quite dirty and just generally of a very poor standard.
The evening entertainment (if you could find it) was live music- not good at all. I was there for the New Year gala dinner and the entertainment on that night was very average with live music, bellydancing and Folklore (typical tunisian music and dance).
I've seen all this entertainment before many times in other hotels but this was by far the worst display. In fact, after the meal we all headed over to El Ksar to finish the night.
We were booked on a half board basis but ate in the restaurant twice for breakfast (it was ok, basic) and once for dinner (all choices were not very appealing so we never returned!)
It was too cold to use the outdoor pool (which looked quite nice) but when we went looking for the indoor pool we were very disappointed. I wouldn't even go in once, it was horrible and dirty.
On a plus, the staff at the hotel were friendly and our housekeeping lady was great, always smiling and very chatty!
I am returning to Sousse in 5 weeks but have booked the Riadh Palms hotel, as I will not be returning to the El Hana again.

I stayed in this hotel a couple of weeks back, and I absolutely loved my holiday.
The people in Tunisia are very friendly, although one thing I might say is that as a pale young woman you attract a lot of attention which can be intimidating. But the hotel was lovely, with friendly chambermaids and charming waiters.
The entertainment was hilarious (you should try the aqua gym, aquafit with an Arab twist) and the location was ideal. I’d recommend it to anyone, I would love to go again and I did not want to come home!

The hotel is tired and dirty with filthy carpets in rooms and corridors. On arrival our room had no towels or toilet paper. Inadequate supplies of dining equipment meant the staff taking away tea/coffee pots and milk jugs etc. whilst you were still dining to give to other diners. Teaspoons were at a premium!
Towels were taken away before 09.00 and returned about 16.00 - not always dry! The food was appalling, I love ethnic food, but at the El Hana the food defied description. Large dishes of rice or pasta with 'meat' (bone with a bit of meat if you were lucky - type of meat was unidentifiable), salad floating in water, tomatoes that looked as if they'd been sliced 24 hrs ago, lots of eggs, fish that was fried to a leathery state, cooked vegetable dishes that tasted as if the ingredients included tobacco, crème caramels put out day after day until they cringed away from the edges.
The bread was good. The waiting staff were not very knowledgeable about the food and what it was supposed to be. I didn't appreciate waking up one morning to find a very large cockroach climbing the bedroom curtains either. The waiting and cleaning staff were friendly, and the shop keeper was an absolute star. The Panorama rep was good too.

I returned to this hotel for two weeks 23rd April - 7th May and regret to say it has deteriorated further since my last visit.
The staff are still as lovely and helpful as ever, the rooms are cleaned and beds and towels changed regularly, but the food is not particularly good, there is really no entertainment and there is no way it deserves its 4*. I wasn't too unhappy as I booked by email direct with the hotel at an extremely good price, but had I been paying brochure prices I should have been extremely miffed.
The Chems El Hana next door has apparently been closed down for a while due to financial problems and there is no indication as to when it will re-open. Much as I have loved the place in the past, I will probably give it a miss in future, at least until the problems have been sorted out.
Incidentally, I notice that several hotels mention their proximity to the Casino Caribe in Sousse. This has been closed for round about two years now.

I had stayed at the Residence a couple of times previously and returned again on 30th October. The hotel is clean and comfortable and the staff are simply lovely. Breakfast is mainly continental but quite adequate and the evening meals are excellent, a mixture of self and waiter-service with plenty of choice. Unlike previous years there was no entertainment in the hotel itself as it was out of season, but as you can visit any of the other hotels that wasn't a problem.
The situation is excellent, just over the (one way) road from the beautiful beach. If you are a light sleeper you may notice noise from the road but it certainly didn't bother me. It is an easy walk to the Medina and a cheap taxi or tuktuk ride to Port El Kantaoui. I'm going back to Sousse on 23rd April and haven't booked accommodation yet, but would have no hesitation in staying there again.

" Hello,
I went to this hotel... "
Hello,
I went to this hotel without knowing much about it at all.
I have been to the Chems Elhana once before and really liked it. el hana residence is its sister hotel, literally over the car park.
As I arrived the atmosphere was really nice! I really like Sousse as it is but this was lovely. I had a few problems with my tour operator, it was soon sorted!
People say that Tunisians are really rude and nasty, I think that they just had a one off problem! Their ways and beliefs need to be respected, its their country, my mother is 36 and is in a wheelchair, the locals where always offering to help get in and out of taxis and shops, not even wanting money or something in return! just our politeness as the had mentioned was all that they wanted!! I got talking to a local boy and he said that he finds it difficult where tourists disrespect him, he says that people no longer respect the Tunisian ways, wearing bikinis through their local town and through the streets, I don’t think that’s right even for our country.
overall I had a great holiday, the entertainment in the hotel was good, I was even included on a couple of the nights! I cant wait to get back out there, I’ve just got a new job, im going to start saving up!

When we arrived our room was not ready and had to wait 30 minutes in reception. After finally getting to our room, we took one look and thought what have we come to. The balcony door wasn’t safe at all, you could push the door open easily from the outer side.
The room was in general just filthy. After seeing the room in this state I immediately asked to be changed rooms. They gave us a bit of a better room but still had stains on the carpet, coffee stains splattered up the wall.
In this room it didn’t have a balcony just 2 doubled windows, however it had a sea view which was better than looking onto the back sheets which was really dirty. The air conditioning devise was hanging of the wall and would only work when you moved it to another position, which was very dangerous.
The reception staff were very rude, especially the man that was behind the reception later in the evening.
We stayed on a half board basis, but wasted our money as we ate out most nights. The food was terrible, they do not cater for the English what so ever, only if you’re from Poland, Russia, Germany, and Lithuania.
We were the only English people there and one other family at this time. You felt very uncomfortable around the pool as you were surrounded by other nationalities which were very ignorant, you got looks in which you thought you shouldn’t be there.
The music at its sister hotel was very loud and would go on until 3 o’clock in the morning, which is a nightmare if you want an early night.
There is 2 English pubs in Sousse, the better one is in the hotel Tej Marhaba which looks a lovely hotel. It’s called the Rose and Crown on the top floor, you might feel more comfortable there.
Overall I would not go back to this hotel, however it certainly didn’t put me off Sousse as it was a lovely resort, I would chose a different hotel though.
