Pool area, clean, quiet and not crowded.
5 More photos Govino Bay Resort .. On arrival, room wasn't ready so waited in the pool area for 1/2 hour until it was, with a cold beer. First impressions of pool were really nice, quiet and peaceful, view to beach lovely. Couldn't wait to unpack an get in the sea. Went to our apartment, there were 2 of us and we could only book one that slept 6/7, so paid over the top for under occupancy. Was disappointed as we had steep flight of stairs and no balcony. The gardens around the apartments were lovely and although we were not far from the main road, we weren't aware of it. The apartments are like little villas, and are set out in such a way, that you feel like you have your own villa, quite private. The apartment was basic, nice and clean and spacious for 2, didn't use the kitchen to cook. The was a bedroom downstairs, and 2 sleeping areas upstairs but there were no doors on the rooms and a balcony overlooking the lounge area, so wouldn't have liked to have 6 people in the apartment, there would be little privacy. Safe was 11 Euro per week, the maid came every day. There is free air conditioning in the front room, but nothing in the bed room except a fan, which had a high pitched screech. We asked on 2 occasions if they could change it, but nothing happened, so my partner took it apart with a knife and spoon and fixed it. There were a few ants, but this wasn't a problem. We only visited the pool after 5pm after being out for the day, and it was always empty, but the water was warm, and the sun stayed on the pool area till about 7pm. There was a snack service and bar by the pool open all day.
The beach... We made out way to the beach, and on entering sank in to the mud. It was horrible and apparantly there were snakes too. It was full of reed/seaweed, and murky. We spent no time on this beach at all. You could walk a short distance to Gouvia for clear waters about 5 - 10 minutes. Best local beach was Dassia/Ipsos.
Out and about... there are blue buses which run regularly (approx 20 mins) outside the resort between Dassia and Corfu town (between 90c and 1.30 Euro pp). All the local beaches are stony, but water is clear if you like snorkelling. In addition Green buses can be caught outside the apartment to Kassiopi, Paleokastritsa, Sidari, and are about 2 euro's each way, can be a little cramped so expect to stand. Green buses from Corfu can also be caught by catching the blue bus to the blue buses station and walking a short distance to the Green bus station. Glyfada beach is well worth a visit.
Places to visit.. Recommend Dassia, Paleokastritsa, Corfu Town, Perivoli and Agios Georgios (south) for beautiful sandy beaches, Sidari, Kassiopi and Glyfada.
We also hired a car for 2 days cost 70 Euro's from Sluta Leta, with fully comp insurance.
Restaurants/Entertainment.. Recommended ...Filippas Restaurant big one on the corner of the street, Excellent food, excellent service, excellent prices, would recommend to everyone. Greek music and dancing on a Saturday night.
Not recommended - Ate at Vergina's on our first night as this was recommended, went for authentic greek moussaka and received a microwave meal and a plate of chips..
It was getting towards the end of the season, but there was plenty of quiet bars, and plenty of lively bars and a nightclub, depending on what you wanted. Thankfully didn't come across any karaoke.
Advice: Gouvia is a nice place to stay, plenty to do if you use the local transport.
Activities: Filippas Restaurant. Corfu town and fortress, Glyfada, and Agios Georgios (south)

Submitted By: Miss P Medwe arrived at the reception and we were at the wrong 1 as there is 2 parts to Govino Bay, but a man in a black truck came and took our cases to the other 1 and there was no problems.
we booked a 2 bed appartment (for the same price as a 1 bed) there was an upstairs with 2 beds and then a bedroom downstairs. the kitchen had fridge/freezer and toasty maker in. there is also iron/board too. there is a air con unit in the kitchen section of the appartment and we just had this on constantly and propped the door open to the downstairs bedroom and it kept it cool.
the bathroom was fine, had a decent shower in and a hairdryer- just 1 of those basic ones you get in hotels.
the only bugs i seen all holiday were a few ants, and these cant be helped but they didnt cause a problem.
the pool is a good size with plenty of sunbeds we didnt have to get up early once- but there was no umberellas around the pool and only 3 on the beach. the sun loungers didnt have the cushion bit on and were just the plastic bit so we bought lilos and laid on them. the lifeguard was around and she didnt like people jumping in the pool. but we just waited until she left and then got in iwth the lios.
the grassed area/beach is nice and very relaxing- there is even 2 swans on the bay. if you go to the right on this beach through a little cut it takes you to the next hotel. this is where we got on our boat trip. a man runs local boat trips daily at 1pm and is only 15 euros (cheap compared to others) we really enjoyed this and it allowed us to see more of the island.
the shops and bars are about 5-10 min walk away (turn right as you come out). we ate at 9 Muses which was really nice and also a grill called Athena, (kind of like a kebab shop!) we had chicken pittas which were lovely and for only 2 euros!
a few of the pubs had shut as the season was quieting down so the only entertainment we could find was Elvis! this was 1 thing we were a bit dissipointed with as we would have liked to have been able to sit and have a drink and watch something or a kareoke etc. Melodies had a good atmosphere and served Carling on draught!
got the bus to corfu town from just outside hotel, but you need tickets first and these are from the little shop. we also went into Dassia one night for tea but there wasnt much going on so we come back into Gouvia.
unfortiunatly there was a thunder storm 2 days we were there which left the night times quite cold (apparently how it was ment to be in november!!) so im glad i packed a jacket.

Submitted By: Miss A YancyThe pool area was good with a bar that served drinks and snacks, the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. There is a lifeguard around the pool 6 days a week and she is lovely, she makes it so everyone gets to enjoy the pool not just children.
All the bars, resturants and shops are a 2 minute walk away, with loads to choose from. We tried most of the resturants and didnt have a bad meal, our favourites was 9 Muses and Romeos the food in both was fantastic aswell as the service. There was lots of bars our favourite was Whispers it had good music and atmosphere and they have happy hour from 8pm til 12am on cocktails and draught beer buy one get one free!
All in all it was a great holiday and has something for all ages. We wished we had booked for 2 weeks but we will definately return.

Submitted By: Mr D WhiteThe staff working at the resort are very friendly and cannot do enough to help; check in and out was a piece of cake.
The grounds are beautifully manicured and are exceptionally clean and tidy. The grounds extend down to the beach into a little bay with a beautiful backdrop of hills and traditional Greek houses.
The apartments are basic, very clean with maid service 6 out of 7 days. They are functional and quite spacious; the one room apartments have two bed settees in the lounge that are comfortable. Each apartment has a small bathroom with over bath shower, plus a terrace with a table.
The cooking facilities are not really designed for any more than cooking breakfast or heating food up as the cooker has one large ring, one very small ring plus a combination microwave. However if you are on holiday to chill out and not cook a huge amount - then this is ideal.
The swimming pool is basic and is split between a toddlers end (with a guard rail) and the main pool from knee depth to approx 2M, with a restaurant and pool bar close by. There is a life guard on duty who can be a little over zealous at times so you can’t get away with the occasional crafty dive.
The only very small minus is the beach; the complex is situated at the end of Gouvia bay and thus does not benefit from normal cleansing wave action. Consequently it does not have white washed pebbles and blue sea, but is full of sea life that your kids can harrass. However if your are happy with beautiful grounds, a large swimming pool combined with the occasional short walk to Gouvia bay (15 mins away) for a change of scenery then it is absolutely perfect.
We had a great time, at a reasonable cost and would highly recommend the resort to all who are looking for a similar family holiday.

Submitted By: Miss G KnightJust up the road from Govino bay is Gouvia resort, its a 5min walk, beautiful restaurants and bars. There are two clubs "adonis" and "status".
I would highly recommend nine meuses restaurant it does beautiful food and you can order a traditional starter which is a platter of the traditional Greek food so you can have a small taste of each.
If anyone is booking with first choice I recommend the bbq on mainland Greece trip! It was a fantastic day out the bbq was amazing! I had a pork chop bigger then my head! The captain on the boat makes it a fun day out for all ages.
All in all it’s a fantastic hotel and resort I would defiantly stay there again and I would recommend it to anyone.

Submitted By: Sally HydeThe staff were really nice and we recommend it to any people who like a holiday like this. We went here because it was my daughters 13th birthday and it was a present from her grandparents.
We loved the little village that was just down the road from us. We went down there every night to have a look to see what was happening.
We had a brilliant time and we are hoping to come here next year.

Submitted By: Ms A.B BullockWhen we first arrived, my first impression was that it seemed too quiet. There didn't seem like lots to do around the area and as a teenager I really wanted a lot of nightlife. But as we got into the first week of our 2-week stay, I really began to love the holiday.
We discovered that only a short walk down the road from Govino Bay Apartments was a large selection of restaurants and lively bars to go to. One of the main bars that I really enjoyed was Irish Knights, a lively, friendly bar with karaoke and very tasty cocktails! It was the highlight of our holiday when we discovered that bar and met the memorable people we met there. There was a variety of supermarkets and gift shops for the essentials. There were a lot of activities and even daily boat trips available that travelled around the beautiful island and its sites.
We enjoyed a very exciting and enjoyable day out at Gouvia’s very own Water park, Aqualand. It was an extremely short distance from the apartments and there were bus services available at almost any time from right outside the apartments. It was a wonderful day out and great for my younger brother. Kid's loved it.
Govino Bay itself was beautiful. Situated on a lovely private bay, the sea-view was stunning. You could relax in the apartment’s garden right next to the lovely sea, while your children played. There was an all round relaxing atmosphere, where you could lay, surrounded by lush green gardens and gorgeous sea breezes. The pool was always kept very clean, and there were lifeguards by it everyday. The around-pool bar staff were extremely friendly and the food available to purchase was great.
The apartments themselves were very unusually built, but still very clean and extremely spacious. They were each decorated beautifully inside and each looked like traditional Greek houses. The only downfall was that there wasn't a very large balcony, but you could always go and sprawl out on the surrounding private gardens for a good sunbathe!
Overall, it was the best holiday I have had in a long, long time. It had the element of relaxation at the same time as having tons of activities, bars and restaurants to go to. The apartments and overall place was absolutely brilliant. Weather was beautiful too. For young and old, the place is perfect. I would defiantly love to go back very soon!
