just returned from a weeks holiday here never tried cyprus before but if this it what it has to offer then never again. what u see is what you get hotel was dirty and shabby hotel staff were scruffy unhelpfull and very rude. the waitress was more concerned with chatty up the men then wanting to serve you. think the hotel needs a complete overall with new staff. would not recomend this hotel to any one.

Went to the evalena a year and a half ago. Was the worst hotel I have ever been to. The reception was awful with trees growing, smelt so bad, at the bar they didnt even know half the cocktails on theier own menu. The rooms were disgusting, the bathroom was so small and horrible it was very dirty it looked like it have never been cleaned the light wasn't working so had to leave the the door open when going in. The beds were dirty probaly had bed bugs.
The staff were unfriendly, rude, ignerant, sad, lonely, sick, unhelpful, smelly/dirty! When going ask at the desk the lady was eating pasta, talking with her mouth full gross. Other staff were playing computer games while talking to us. we left for a few days and stayed at the mideteration hotel in Limasol for 2 nights it was that good we felt like we were on cloud nine. and never wanted to returned to evalena!!!!!!!!
I'M NEVER EVER GOING TO GO BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband and 9 year old grandson have just returned from a last minute weeks holiday in the Evalena apartments and cannot understand the bad reviews. When we read the bad reviws we were a bit dissapointed but we need not have been... All staff were very polite and helpful and making our grandsons holiday extra special. The apartments were all newly decorated...sunbeds all comfortable ...poolside drinks amd snacks great...cleaners in the rooms with fresh towels...bar and lounge area all clean and comfortable..after being to cyprus 6 times we have no faults with this hotel...if people want a 5 star then they have to pay for a five star after meeting some holiday makers at the hotel we all felt the same what was the problem...our view a toaster and an extra pot would have been nice as we like to have a light breakfast a couple of times in our room ...we had a great week !!

The Evalena could be top class if it was brought into the 21st century! Staff brilliant (except Louis - get rid of him!), fantastic views (if you are lucky enough to get sea view). Brits seem to be given rooms at rear which can be noisy and dusty. Biggest beef is the state of the apartments. Desparate for complete renovation including new beds, a/c, kitchen equipment, bathroom - well everything! Seats in reception need replacing, as do sun beds. Kiosk very nice, food good, but cost of apartments not justified. Mr Andreas, put your money back into the apartments and not on your horse!!!

We have holidayed in Cyprus and Protaras in August quite a few times and this is by far the worst holiday we've had, because of the Evalena. We were allocated room 305 at the back of the hotel, with reasonable views over open fields. The room was spacious and seemed ok but then just after midday the sun hit it! We only need a room to sleep in, snack in and to use the bathroom facilities and so 2* hotels are usually quite adequate for us.
In room 305, the curtains were thin and could not protect the room from the sun at all. We paid 6euros a day for the air conditioning, which was very old, blew out a bit of cool air and only covered the bedroom. We hired a fan for the lounge, where our children were sleeping at 2euros a day, which gave a small amount of relief when the fan happened to be pointing at you. The room was blistering hot all day, particularly in the afternoon and evening, when we wanted to rest before going out at night. With the bedroom door closed, the bedroom temperature reached an acceptable level just before dawn, when the heat started again. The lounge remained unbearable to sleep in and everyone got very irritable through lack opf sleep.
It got worse when getting ready in the bathroom. The sink taps dribbled out water (both hot and cold) and the shower was so pitiful it was like a few flies spitting at you. Unfortunately, we didn't have flies, only ants and I'm not sure if they spit or not. We had an ant trail coming in the room at one side and going all the way across it and leaving the other side. One day we dropped a few crumbs at lunch and 2 hours later the kitchen and dining area were covered in ants.
So we were hot, tired, dirty and surrounded by ants. Lovely.
We badgered the hotel reception to change rooms and managed to get a room on the front of the hotel after the first week for an extra 10euros a day.
This room was cooler as was shielded from the afternoon sun, the shower worked better, the air conditioning was just as bad and the ants were confined to the balcony. Until a crisp was dropped on the kitchen floor and the ants raided the room and proceeded to carry the crisp off. This room (no.4) was better but still had a useless fridge and a leak in the bathroom which meant a puddle constantly forming in the middle of the room.
We only had our room cleaned once in the whole 2 weeks, but the bins were emptied regularly. Dirty towels were taken away but not replaced!
The pool seemed dirty most of the time, and on one day you could not see further than a foot in the water. There were so many stomach issues around the guests, ranging from sickness to being on a drip in the local hospital. In fact, the ambulance seemed to be a daily visitor. Whilst the maids cleaned the area immediately around the pool, the sunbed area was largely ignored. The area that we used had the same rubbish laying around at the end of our holiday as at the beginning.
We found the hotel reception staff mostly unhelpful and the owner/manager very ignorant. No "good morning" or any pleasantries. Maggie, the British one, seemed ok to certain "in" guests but cold and unhelpful to others, including ourselves.
The hotel is in a good location but it is unfortunate that it has been ill-maintained and service is poor at best. If you cannot get a room at the front, please foreget this hotel. The Swedish travel operator that uses this hotel only books rooms at the front. Olympic do not have such standards. I have since complained to them and received a reply from their customer services to say that our experiences just do not happen. Very helpful indeed. I must have imagined this disaster of a holiday.
Will not be going to Evalena ever again and will not be using Olympic.

I was on a 4-day vacation in those disappointing apartments, in the end of September. Not only they changed the price of the room when we went there to pay cash, they also told us (we were 2 people)that we had to pay extra for the A/C(which was too noisy, old and located to one of the two rooms). Couches, cutlery, and the kitchen were too dirty to use. The parking space was outside and not somewhere with shadow(underground maybe?). I cannot imagine how can someone can visit such a beautiful place like Protaras and be so unlucky with the apartment.

what a disappointment. dirty apartments, couldnt use anything in kitchen, no kettle, no toaster dirty cutlery, totally outdated, needs good overhaul, cracks running full length of wall in bathroom, full of god knows what. once you go outside its great, perfect spot at beach, that was the only good part of holiday. staff pleasant, food ok. will never return to these apartments again, they look better on internet and in brochure, but not in reality!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have just returned from our amazing holiday at the Evalena Apartments. Having never been to Cyprus before none of us knew what to expect, although I'm delighted to say it was one my best holidays!
The apartments are in the perfect location being about a 5 minute walk from the strip in Protaras and only 3 minutes from the local supermarket. We visited there a few times during the week to get their freshly baked rolls in the mornings, perfect for breakfast.
We stayed self catering. The restaturant and pool side bar on site are great. We had breakfast there 3 times, with a full english being only 3 euros!! We also had lunch 1 day and this also could not be faulted.
All the staff are great and extremly helpful, we had one complaint about not having fresh towels, however within 10 minutes of speaking to reception they were delivered to our rooms! Great service!
Protaras itself is a lovely resort with many restaurants and bars to choose from in the evening! Our favourite restaurant was the Japenese which could be found in Eden Square. All the food is cooked in front of you with the chefs doing many tricks whilst cooking. Our favourite bar was Delfini, all cocktails were 2 euros and the 3 waitresses were very friendly and helpful!
Overall this was a great holiday and we will definitely be looking to return again in the very near future!!
:o)

My new husband and I have just returned from a 2week stay at Evalena, its situated away from the hussle and bustle of the main strip but close enough to stroll to and enjoy the many different restuarants and shops. The hotel has a real sense of a family feel, staff there are extremely helpful (if you stay speak to Maggie on the Reception) rooms are cleaned each day with sheets
and towells changed regulary. Whilst this is only 2* plus its the same as a 3* in Spain. Value for money 10/10!! I would highly recommend a stay here and would certainly visit again. (forgot the beach literally is only a stone throw away but its worth a slightly further walk to Fig Tree Bay Beach)

We have just returned from our stay at the Evalena, we had a great holiday, perfect location, lovely clean hotel, our apartment was spacious and cleaned daily. Food was very nice, but for half board would of liked more of a variety on the menu, but other than that we couldn't fault it. Hotel pool lovely and warm, lots of sun-loungers, washing machine and tumble dryer came in very handy especially for your towells. Hotel staff lovely and friendly, we especially got on great with Maggie the english receptionist, who is just lovely, and helped us out alot, she makes the hotel really in our eyes and we will stay in touch with her, and will definately go back there.
There was only one negative and that was there wasn't any entertainment in the evening for the kids, the Cypriot night on a Tuesday was good fun, but they need to put on more in the evening as it was dead.
It is only a short walk to the lovely beach and crystal clear waters, a few rocks at first, but gorgeous for swimming and my kids loved snorkelling for the fish.
Nissi Beach is lovely too very shallow waters with a few waves, great fun on a lilo.
We went last week in July, first week in August and it was very hot, got up to 50 deg one day, not that we were complaining. Lovely clean country, very impressed and will definately be going back again.
Thanks to all at the Evalena for making our holiday special, especially the wonderful Maggie, love Mandy, Colin, Lauren & Lewis xxxx

Went to evalene with two children for 2 weeks, just returned home. This vacation was the best in a long time. Yes, the interior was old and well used, but our room was always kept cleaned. Got a room with oceanview and had a fabolous view over the beach and ocean. The airconditon worked very good and cooled down the whole apartment without problem. Towels vere changed 5 times a week, just the same as they did on a 5 star apt on Tenerife Spain a year ago. The bedsheet was changed twice during our two weeks vacation. The bedsheets was clean and without holes. The towels were almost always new, except for one time, and the lady changing them couldn't apologize enough it seemed. The balconyfurniture was also clean. So all this time worriing about this hotel becaus of this bad reviews was a total waste of time!! The staff which canges every year was always very friendly. All you had to do was to ask nicely and they would help in every way they could. The refridgerator was a funny experience as it kept almost everything inside very cold, except the 7 up. But in a hot day, a colaslush was very refreshing;) and not a bad idea. Couldn't complain about warm milk... The staff including maggie, steve and louis was the nicest people we ever met. Also the one we met both at breakfast and in the evening, we named him Ronaldo. The sweetest people on earth. Always made you feel welcome. sure gonna miss them a lot. And adriano the parrot! we managed to make him sound like a cat :)
The pool was cleaned every day, all the sunbeds were wiped of every day, I was up every morning from about 6 and saw how everything was cleaned and prepared for the guests. Also noticed all the people which did not take a shower prior to using the pool as requested. not easy to keep a pool clean if not guests do as told.
We will definitely return to fig tree bay, maybe not at this hotel, because next time the staff would be completely different and they will have a hard time finding people as sweet as they were this summer and we might be disapointed next time. Although they had a tendence to leave out something on the check or on the order, include something we didn't order, trying to serve us dinner while we already had got our plates, but that was just to smile about and made it all more memorable and we will always remember this as our best holiday ever.
