nice resort, shame about hotel !!!!
from A TripAdvisor Member
just back from 2 weeks here& taking 3 or 4 holidays a year(at least 1 per year in tunisia),puts you in a good position to give an honest & helpful review. i read reviews before we went& found most very misleading & unhelpful. for a start if you like the british pub, food, beer & entertainment with sun style holiday..don't go to tunisia then moan .... go to benidorm or magaluf ! read up on tunisia first as it's very different . anyway... the facts .. can't fault the resort it's fantastic . hotel's a different story,it's billed as 3star...i've been in better 2 star ! it's dated & dirty (maids only change towels & make up beds ,floors not washed once in 2 weeks!)the rooms are basic comfort level,no fridge,no kettle,no hairdryer or tv ( you can hire the last 2)no irons or ironing boards either.no room service,so if you like to spend time in your room be prepared to run back & forth for drinks.no lifts to upper floors, wheelchair/pram access on lower floor. staff all friendly & helpful although all bar staff a bit tight with the measures !!drinks in all bars served in 25cl plastic cups, (less than half pint)very classy!!no waiter service, food quality & choice very poor(especially the meat),excellent for vegetarians & sald fans though, it's worse for kids ,snack menu is kebab, pizza & chips every day. noisy around pool all day, impossible to chill out!same 2 or 3 cd's played all day every day.sunloungers free by pool & beach(matress 75p per day). clean, relaxing beach(high point of hotel) straight out back is pure white sand with excellent bathing water & all the watersports . evening entertainment by the same "amateurs" who've kept you busy all day by the pool,so dont expect too much & if it rains or it's winter the shows are inside & very noisy.
loved the hotel going back

We were a group of 5 girls going to the Hotel Dar Khayam for a weeks holiday. When we first arrived the porters carried our suitcases to the rooms. The rooms are basic but clean. The maid service comes everyday. The beach is only about 100 metres down a path leading from the hotel, it is a great beach and it gets cleaned at night. Be careful when swimming as one of my friends had a jellyfish sting and the bar staff put fresh tomato on the sting which worked wonders, i went swimming as well so i was lucky. We found a lovely atmosphere in the hotel and the staff are very pleasant. We drank lots of vodka whilst we were there at the pool bar. You can get diet coke, it is kept in the back in the fridge, just ask the barman & he will get it for you. There is plenty of alcohol on the all inc package. The food is plentiful & something for everyone. We tipped the staff, we didn't feel obliged but they are so helpful. We enjoyed it that much, we are going back in November 2005. There is a disco called Latinos & we were there everynight. It is open aired and very good music. Be careful, a can of diet coke is about £2.00 in our money. Latinos do a good cocktail (Dynamite) Be careful when you go out the hotel area as the Tunisian men take a liking to you if they think you are English, they tell you they love you when they first see you which we found hilarious. Hamammet is a lovely place and the sunset is unbelievable. You do get hassle from shop assistants but just tell them no & they usually go away. We wouldn't go anywhere else but this hotel, you will hear from me soon as we get back. Going on the 16th Nov 2005
flies everywhere
from grahamandnicki
We have just returned from a weeks break and it's lovely to be back home. The hotel itself is quite nice and the staff are very friendly. The food is the same day in day out and is luke warm. The dining room was swarming with flies and when we complained they said they would spray them, sure enough when we went down to breakfast the following morning we were surrounded by dead flies. We ate out for the rest of our stay. There are only two toilets within the hotel and these were filthy. hygene is not a big factor at this hotel and we won't be returning.
fantastic animation staff
from cazzcull
just back from this hotel and would certainly recommend it for families. the animation staff were just brilliant and certainly worked for their money. There was some sort of activity evert half hour for both children and adults, or you could just laze beside the pool. The facilities were spotless and the rooms were cleaned every day and flowers were put on the pillows and my nightdress was folded into a swan shape. There is no nightlife outside the hotel and almost impssible to find anywhere that sold alcohol. The food was good and lots of choice, the desserts were amazing. The transfer was almost 2 hours which was a bit off putting but otherwise a fantastic holiday. Dont forget to do the camel ride with Latif it was brilliant and lasted 3 hours and cost 30 dinar (£15 approx)
we are going back to party

I went along with 4 friends to this hotel, and after reading some of the reviews on this site i was not sure what to expect, but i am happy to say i was pleased overall with the hotel and staff. All staff work hard to make sure your holiday is a pleasent one. There are plenty of activities for all ages and the entertainment team work very hard, the beaches are beautiful, and they are clean. the none motorised watersports are free, and the paragliding is cheap at around £8, u have got to try this, i was a little scared at 1st, but it was brill and i would defo do this again. The hotel is clean and above average for a 3* hotel. Hammamet centre is about a 5 min drive and taxis are cheap, but ask for a price before hand usualy around 4-6 dinars in the day. The food at the hotel is varied and good. we had a problem with the head of security at this hotel, who seemed to think that he had the right to be with any lady he wanted even when they said noooooooooooooooooooooooo, but we complained and he was moved from this hotel. I would defo go back to this hotel, infact we were all sad to leave it, we will miss all our new found friends, especialy said the porter, Bouraoi the chef, and last but not least my little darling Zidane from reception. But all Tunisian men are fishing (looking for girls) so beware and take it with a pinch of salt, take it in your stride and i am sure u will have a reat hol. bon voyage
Ive just been to hell!

Two words dont go!! Me and my partner wasnt expecting much from this hotel but we did expect them to get something right.First off the hotel,we asked for a sea view with a double bed...we didnt get either we got a bush view and 2 single beds pushed together. We didnt mourn about it we thought"hey lets see what we can do to have fun,so the beach!!First off it looks nice and indeed it is,go for a swim and leave your lady on the beach alone and see what happens.I did this and as soon as i lifted my head out off the lovely blue sea i saw a horrible henna tatoo man rubbing his hand up and down my partners leg, needless to say i strode out of the sea like a pale Yorkshire god ready to have it out with this filthy little man...who all of a suddon didnt speak english...anyway dont let the filthy Tunisians dissuad you from going here just have the food for a couple of days. There was spaggetti from the previous evening for breakfast the plastic cups was all stuck together we got food poisoning for 2 days. But as we are made of sterna stuff we thought wed have a game of bingo and wash the evening entertainment.Ok bingo you dont get a pen you get a cocktail stick which you have to poke into your card if you get a number.Right now the entertainment you see the lifeguards performing scenes from grease?Oh no before you say "that sounds ok",remember i said performing not singing just jumping about looking stupid.Imagine a waiter dressed as an american soldier mimining a song from madam butterfly. The compare was good he spoke 3 different languages.ok weve gone through all this lets buy some ciggies and a paper the ciggies was old and dated tasted like camel poo and the newspapers was 4 days old so weve had our holiday at Dar khayam weve been to the bazzars and arguid with big hairy men who wont leave us alone gone paragliding and nearly died went bowling down the road and got heckelled all the way through by a group of teenagers who to be fair really needed a stern yet firm talking to or if that fails a good slap around the face! Anyway lets go to the airport and get outta here,The police at customs asked me for 10 dinar for stamping my card"not a chance pal",then the guy with the metal detector asked me for my change in my pocket(i know you have to give your money in but when you get through the metal detector you can still buy sandwiches)i said no of course. Then someone steals my partners purse...this just get better doesnt it?ok so back to the police, and all of a suddon they cant speak English???...even though twenty minutes ago they could when asking for my money.Of course they wouldnt let us through to speak to the thomas cook guy on the otherside. So there we was all alone in hell, whoops sorry tunisia with no money.we got on the plane and talked to the stewardess who were fantastic and helped us out a lot and got intouch with thomas cook ground staff for us. Anyway we arnt fussy people me myself think Egypt is great but Tunisia is a horrible place and Dar Khayam is a horrible horrible place ants everywere open sewers and terrible staff a week i want back and i want it now!!!
one day here would be more than enough...
from judew
well, initially, the hotel looks ok.the reception area is large and looks very nice.but a barn would've looked inviting after the time it took to get there from the airport on the bus.The staff, given their due, tried very hard to make this a nice holiday. The food was nice for a couple of days but became very repetative.Hammamet beach itself, was absolutely disgusting, with what looked like an open sewer running down to the sea.The local people offering beach activities have no safety awareness whatsoever,my husband was parascending and was left to land in the next door hotel pool area, narrowly avoiding electric cables, parasols and buildings,he landed safely, but was whisked away before anything could be said.we never went to the beach again...as for the medina!!! we were forced to go and visit a carpet salesperson on the way to the medina,if you can get out of it,dont go! its all very intimidating. The best thing to do to get out is to tell them you dont have a credit card and you,ll be ushered out very quickly! The medina sells the same rubbish that you can buy at the shops by the hotel,so save yourself the hassle. After leaving the medina,we walked past the local school, where a bunch of teenagers decided to throw large stones at us-this was a very scary experience.Once we were back at the hotel we were isolated from other guests and told to say nothing...The camel ride from latif was worth doing.the pools were clean, and the facilities were ok.There was no other nightlife outside the hotel, and the butlins style entertainment was chronic. We have never visited anywhere else in tunisia, but if Hammamet is anything to go by, you can keep it...If you are going to go to Tunisia, avoid Hammamet, thank God it was only a week...
Relaxing holiday
from StudentSammy
My boyfriend and I just got back from our week break and we had a great time. The hotel is perfect for a relaxing break and the beach is fabulous! Transfer time from Monastir airport was about 2 1/2 hours which was pretty tiring but it also gave us the opportunity to see some of the country(good and bad). We went on the camel ride, booked with Latif(a man on the beach that works for Thomas Cook)which cost 30 dinars(£15)which was the highlight of the holiday. The hotel staff were fantastic, can never to enough for anyone. We requested a sea view and we got one so we were imprssed when we first arrived. The food was brilliant, pleanty of food and enough choice each day.We ate in the restaurant every breakfast, lunch and dinner and we were not once dissappointed. The pool was clean and well maintained,it was popular so we stayed on the beach every day. You get hassled by the locals to buy Marlboro cigerettes but a firm no usual sent them on their way! The animation team were fantastic, entertasinment was fun and light hearted. We left tips for the bar staff in the reception area and pool bar area as well as our brilliant maid. All staff members are brilliant and we had a fantastic, relaxing break at the Hotel Dar Khayam and we'd recommend it to anyone who needs a good relaxing break from the pressures at work and home! Excellent holiday, hope you enjoy it as much as we both did!
Absolutely fantastic going again!!

Just arrived back home last night and we are already looking for a deal to go again next month. First time abroad and this was an ideal hotel. The flight transfer took just over an hour but it was well worth it!!!!!!! Dan Khayam is extremely clean and would rate it as a five star and not a three star hotel. All the staff are very friendly and work incredibly hard to ensure your holiday is a good one. Fresh flowers in the room and fresh towels every day. The maids work very very hard. We didn't take the kids but found it to be extremely child friendly and will be returning later in the year with them. Food and drink is available all day, although if you are to arrive in the middle of the night make sure you have refreshment as they stop serving food just after midnight. Everything available again at 6.30am so not a problem. The food is plentyful and there is a variety and something for everyone. Try their lemon sorbet ice-cream very refreshing. Tunisia is a closed country so exchange a small amount at the airport on arrival to tip the luggage handler at the hotel when your cases are taken to your room. We didn't need a great deal of spending money as goods are very cheap. The hotel is also next to the beach so no long walks. Hotel pools are monitored daily and are very very clean. Would recommend to couples and families. Rooms with children are not near rooms with adults only. You can join in the fun or be left alone to relax there is no pressure. A lot of the guests had been before and will be returning again. The only complaint I have is we had to come home!!! Many thanks to all hotel staff.
Good Base

We enjoyed our trip to Dar Khayam. The hotel is kept clean and the staff work incredibly hard. The pool area is great and the beach is fantastic we had a good holiday - the only issue we had was the repatition of the food - we solved this by using the local restaurants for the second week and eating out is extremely cheap. For a budget holiday this hotel is a great base and value for money so long as you don't expect a five star hotel for your three star price.

Just returned from our 2nd visit to the dar khayam, hammamet. And yet again had an absolutely wonderful holiday, couldnt of asked for more. Was welcomed with open arms as the staff remembered us from our holiday there in july 2010. we had a lovely, modern room which was... more
