Our Holiday in Tunisia, Hammamet, and DarKhayam was Brilliant. Our best holiday ever!
The rooms were cleaned morning and the maids were really friendly and helpful, so if you needed anything you could ask them. Also the hotel pool was cleaned every morning.
The Restaurant was really nice; food was great, different things nearly everyday. You would have food at set times. So if you got hungry in between you could get to the outdoor snack bar and grab a pizza or sandwich. Drinks throughout the day as many as you want if you go for the all inclusive.
Every night the animation team would entertain you with a show like... Karoke, Sketch, Grease and so much more... Thanks to Gaston, Kelly, Deborah, Midui, Didi and Zico.
The beach is only a 2 min walk away from the Hotel and its really nice; there’s also a drink bar down there so you dont have to come back and forth to get a drink.
We really enjoyed this holiday and hope you will also. We are missing it so much and can’t wait to go back next year!

I was worried about going to the Dar Khayam after reading some of the other reviews, but needn't have worried.
Yes the decor is a little basic and needs updating, but during our second week they had started doing this anyway.
The food is excellent, there is plenty of choice, and as long as you don't pile everything on your plate on the first day, you will be ok for two weeks.
The animation team are really good, as are all the staff really. I will definitely go back as the staff made it really.
If you get the chance, then go on the Sahara Explorer trip. Its two days with quite a lot of travelling (900 miles) but you will see some AMAZING sights! Sunset over the Sahara is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.
I can't wait to go back!

What a fantastic holiday.... we didn't want to come home and got to admit, I cried on our last night - maybe the wine helped!
We only went for a week and booked 10 days before we went, myself, my partner and our little boy who's 2yrs.
The staff in the hotel were fantastic and made such a fuss of our little boy even the maids and gardeners. The entertainment team were great too and even now my little boy asks to go to "O oh, mini disco", and not to mention the children's "cake time" every afternoon when a selection of cakes are brought out to the pool area for the children.
We had a room in one of the apartments near the beach which was lovely. We didn't see a cockroach in site - wish I had as never seen one before so all those who said they did must have been lucky, and any way, so what - you were abroad and not in wet, rainy England!!
The food was nice and changed daily. Sometimes not as warm as you would want but there was a microwave on hand if you wanted anything a bit hotter.
We had never been to Tunisia before and had no expectations but it really was value for money. We got a bit ripped off on our first day on a trip out to the Medina as really hadn't come to grips with the money and the exchange rate so paid over the odds for a taxi and a pair of very designer sunglasses and a purse - but from that day on we had learnt our lesson. Be willing to barter for everything. You get the hang of it after a while and just walk away if you're not interested.
The camel riding is a must... my little boy loved every minute of it and shared a camel (called Jacqueline!) with his dad.
Definitely a family hotel with plenty of activities to keep everyone busy if you want to, or for if you just want to lie around the pool or on the beach.
Only regret... not staying longer!

This was easily the best holiday I have ever been on. The food was great if you like trying out different cultural cuisine and also serves a wide range of food to suit those who would prefer to stay with the British food...
From our accomodation we were only about 50m away from the beach and at the same time about the same distance from the beach... the rooms were surprisingly comfortable and had all of the adequacies there already.
All of the staff were nice and polite although sometimes some of the animation team could get a bit too freindly with young females.
There was plenty to do and you got out of this holiday what you put in... you could lounge around the pool and listen to the music or do all of the activities you could possibly fit into one day and have great fun.
There were many activities to take part in e.g. archery, swimming, football, water polo, volleyball, dancing, Arabic lessons and the list goes on... there is even an on-site gym for the people who feel like toning and tanning abroad.
One of the greatest parts of this holiday is that although you can go for a bear knuckle taxi ride at ridiculous speeds to get to places, you can walk a great deal, if you decide to have a short stroll down the beach you come to many shops where haggling is as simple as repeating your offer until they come down to it.
This was a fantastic holiday and we have already booked to go again in 2008 taking with us someone who hasn't gone before and I feel sorry for her as I can't promote it enough (soz Kim).... 6 months until we will be back on that beach :)

It was the first time for me and my partner to Tunisia and we loved it. The hotel was really great we could not fault it one bit.
It was very clean and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was great, some of the tourists were complaining about the food but I think that they expected it to be all English but it’s not they cater for quite a few other different nationalities within the hotel which was nice as it made a change to eat different things.
We loved this hotel and cannot wait to return.

Just got back from 2 weeks in the Dar Khayam. It was the best holiday I've been on in years. My 4 year old and 12 year old had a great time, as well as my partner.
The Animation Team are great Sam, Didi, Aston, Kelly, Midou, Nagui, Lisa, Mimi, Kimo and Hassan to name a few, they made our holiday. The show's they put on in the evening were very good and the sketches they do are funny. Sam does the children’s club in the day, lovely bloke really kind.
The camel man Latif was great. We booked to go on the camels with him rather than book with the Rep and it was really good fun. The children don’t have to go on the camels, they can go on the horse and cart. Quad man Walid also walks round the hotel selling the trips on the Quad bikes.
The food is basic but very nice drinks. You can’t get drunk on them, sorry to say, but that didn’t bother me or my partner and there is always somewhere to get drinks during the day and food if you’re still hungry.
Water polo is a must, if you’re a bloke they make sure Hassan is on your team.
The rooms are what you expect. The maids are really good, they make your beds look really pretty and the waiters really do look after you.
Next to the hotel is the sister hotel and it has water slides which are good, only 6 of them but are safe with life guards at the top and bottom. The on-site shop is good.
If you have children, they love them and will do anything they can to make it a good holiday for you.
I would book to go to this hotel again and would recommend it; I could go on about how nice this place really is.

The weather was great so were the staff and entertainment team. I recommend a safety deposit boxes to be used as I bought a gold chain from the jewellers which went missing from my room on the last night.
The food is the same thing every day and night which is off putting, and there are no shops about you have to go in taxis to the Medina which was a nightmare, we lasted 5mins.in the place - hassle is not the word.
I would not recommend this place but Sousse is the place to go if you fancy Tunisia.

Weather was fabulous but sometimes unbearable. I have 2 children age 11 and 12 and as they are used to the heat then this didn’t bother them but the other party that we went we found it too hot and blistered easily, so make sure you take lots and lots of high factor.
At around 12 there is no way you are going to get on the beach unless you have a high pain threshold as the sand on the beach burns like hell!
I have read the previous accounts and yes I agree with the staff being friendly and helpful however the men can be a little too friendly and the camel man, quad man and others that are toting for business whilst you try and relax by the pool after a while start to get on your nerves, as their quotes of Asda price and cheaper than chips starts to get a little boring and not funny any more.
The food was dreadful and me and my children had upset stomachs for the whole of the 2 weeks that we were there, I spoke to the rep that said it was the weather which was a lie as I have said before I have been to hot climates allot and had no such problem. The reps also said that there was no other guests that had complained yet again I found this a lie as the other British guests that I spoke too (not allot as the hotel catered manly for the French and German) had reported the same problem.
Cockroaches were in the poolside toilet and one night my daughter was mortified to find 8 massive cockroaches in there.
There were maggots and flies in the fruit and my son was eating some angel delight on the night coming home to discover a dead fly!!!
To be honest the only nice thing about this holiday was the weather and the beach everything else was a shambles, I do not complain at all about holidays but this one took the biscuits and was very dirty.

I thought the hotel was very clean and the waiters was always taking your glasses and stuff, the bar staff was very plesant and always smiling, the pool was clean and the food was nice got a bit boring after 2 weeks tho. The entertainment team was very freindly always wanting you to join in with the games and also night time entertainment. The security was very helpful, I enjoyed my hol that much I didn't want to come home. Oh n by the way the hotel is a place were you could go by yourself, there was a couple of people there on there own.

We loved it. We had no complaints at all. The team were brill. Food brill, weather brill, it was great, clean.
The tours were very good, we went on the camel ride and saw some lovely places. Titti was sweet they all were. We have booked to go twice this year. The kids really enjoyed it.
We had no worries about their where abouts in resort because the entertainment staff were very good, we played bingo.
The pics in the brochure do not do this place justice and could do with updating. We had a bungalow it slept 4 of us it was very clean. Shopping was funny.
And we even saw the hubbly bubbly cafe, if you like a giggle its fun.

We got back yesterday and really enjoyed it. From the beginning the Rep, Sharyn, gave loads of info and even a demonstration on bartering. We didn't need her help at all but she was there if she was needed.
The staff were all very polite and helpful, always a hello and how are you. The entertainment team worked very hard form early in the morning to very late at night, with always a smile.
The food was basic but good, from salads to pasta and fish. And again the staff always made an effort.
Our son, Harley, was always flitting off doing something and on the last night the entertainment team had the kids do a sketch show, which was very well done and all the kids really enjoyed it.
But I must admit the best part of the holiday was Latif, The Camel Man, you hear him before you see him, but such a nice bloke. We did go on the camel ride and I was a bit doubtful beforehand but so glad I did it was fantastic and so much fun.
We would definitely go back again, you can do as much as you want or just chill by the pool.

I visited this hotel wth my husband and 8 year old son in May/June 2007. After having stumbled across this website and after having read all the glowing reviews i felt compelled to write my own.
The staff at the Dar Khayam are all very friendly and the animation team are wonderful for the kids but to be honest i found it a bit overbearing.
When i go on holiday i like to relax ... this is not possible at the Dar khayam, there is always someone asking you if you want to play bingo or water polo or water aerobics or darts or take a camel ride or play football or volleyball etc etc. Now i am prepared to admit that the holiday we took prior to Tunisia was to the Maldives so i was prepared for the fact that Tunisia was not going to comapre however rarely moan about holidays because i think there has to be a bit of give and take and that certain cultural differences have to be taken into consideration and i am usually in the frame of mind of "lets make the most of it" however after being at the Dar khayam for less than a week i would have gladly returned home if someone had given me a ticket (that is just not like me!)
The hotel reception is nice and when you walk in you think that the rooms must be up to the same spec, this is however not the case (not for the oom we stayed in anyway) When we arived the room had not been cleaned and the cleaning throughout the two weeks was fairly hit and miss, the balcony did got get cleaned at all in two weeks, it was not the room that ruined the holiday though because as far as i am concerned the room is just somewhere to put your head at night.
The main problem at the Dar Khayam was the food, ESPECIALLY for children. My 8 year old is quite a fussy eater and it was a constant battle to try and find something for hime to eat. I can honestly say, hand on heart, that every single day, lunch time and tea time the kids menu consisted of 3 trays, one plain pasta, one pasta sauce and one chips. After a week of watching our son eat pasta and chips twice a day we decided to eat out for the rest of our time there.
Another problem with the Dar Khayam is that it is right at the top end of Hammamet, there is not an awful lot around and therefore even outside the hotel their is limited chice.
On the plus side we did a two day trip to the Sahara which was a long trip but well worth it, how many people do you know who have done a camel ride in the Sahara Dessert?
I think if we had stayed at a different hotel that was closer to other hotels and restaurants we may have had a better holiday but as it was it was THE worst holiday i have ever been on, i could not wait to get home. I think if you like Butlins and don't mind the same food day in day out with tea being a warmed up version of lunch, and you like to sit round a swimming pool with loud music blaring out, you like to be hassled to play bingo and to join in/watch the entertainment team in "Grease" then this is the place for you, otherwise book somewhere else.
