We literally had a bad experience with this Hotel during our stay in May'08. Hygienically, it was not good and the staff attitude was pathetic. The staff were very unfriendly and do not even respond. It took over an hour for some one even to give a bath soap and drinking water..... Wont recommend to anyone

Hi all, I strongly suggest everyone not to stay in Alor grande, Candolim in Goa. We had taken a package to stay there for 2 nights, and the package had included pick up and drop to the airport/station, wine, bed coffee etc etc. Please do not take this package as you will... more

Amazing place. The hotel itself was really basic, but that's all we paid for, people were complaining but what did they expect for less than 600 quid for a two week holiday in Goa? My partner and I only had one complaint and that was a hard pillow, sorted straight away by... more

Clean but very basic with lots of wandering eyes
When we arrived we had a very nice welcome after a overnight flight so this was a good sign & was given drinks & shown to our room. Our room was very basic but clean, although we did have bars on the inside of our bathroom window & the door to our balcony was a huge black metal door with a huge bolt on it, it looked like a prison door & our balcony looked over into a local family's garden. The staff were pleasant & we soon realised that the tip we had given to two of the men to carry our bags the day before was a huge amount compared to what they got paid at the hotel, we gave them 100 rupees so just over a £1 each. Also alot of the local & families from North India stayed at this hotel which being a 21 year old girl I found the men intimidating at times & it doesn't matter how many clothes you wear they still like to stare!! I think you can guess I was soon starting to regret my choice of hotel but overall it was clean & the people were friendly & if its just a place to crash then it is a bargain. There is a steakhouse just opposite called Rustlers & is owned by a really nice english family & also at the end of the strip there is a bar & restaurant called Tamarin also owned by a nice couple they do a great casserole. On the beach they have great little shacks that you can get lunch, drinks & can use their loungers all day & it will cost less than a tenner for the whole day, the one we used and who were very kind was Cafe Celina owed my Antonio & his wife Celina. You can also book trips for the day like the dolphin trip we did that including fishing & drinks all day plus a barbeque lunch on a deserted beach which came to about £12 for both of us for the whole day. Day Tripper who are also at the end of the strip do trips from visiting the Taj Mahal to going on a jungle trek which we did for two days. Our trip included driving through the jungle on the back of the jeep to spot wildlife & we spotted a bison, then we rode elephants & washed them in the river. We then stayed at the 'Kali River Lodge' overnight in out tented lodge then the next day we went white water rafting then we got in a small raft to spot crocodiles.

stayed at the alor in calangute, exeptional value for money. very clean , fantastic staff always helpfull and courteous, clean sheets and towels everyday, good restaurant and bar, drank kings beer the kingfisher brand didnt agree with me too much glycerine, beware ! pool not so good always seemed to be in the shade from the building so the water was very cold, but with the fantastic beach and warm sea only a stroll away, through a small hamlet, it was no big deal. thought baga beach was nicest, more scenic, beach shacks are wonderful, find one you like and more or less stick to it, youll make great friends, the lads at the shack couldnt be more helpfull drink all day, eat a truly great lunch lay on their sunbeds and towels youll pay no more than a tenner. the beaches are the best ive ever walked on, soft thick sand. be prepared to star in many photos, indians love having their photo taken with their british friends ! its harmless, just a bit quirky.loads of good trips out,try palolem in south goa, beautiful.dudsagger falls is well worth a visit also. go, enjoy !
Faced lot of problems
I had booked the room through a travel agent about 20 days before travel. When I reached there I was provided an apartment which was outside the boundary of the hotel. It was like a separate house and no way felt like a hotel. We had to walk outside in the road to go to the restaurant. The staircase are not maintained and other families stayed in that hotel. I had booked a package which included airport drop. I wanted to extend my stay in the hotel by 1 day. The hotel staff told me that there are no rooms available so you have to move out. I told them that in that case I will be moving to another hotel around 200 metres from Alor and is it possible to arrange for the airport drop the next day. They clearly said NO. It was not courteous.
Alor! Alor!
We requested to stay at this hotel as we were close by in the Nizmar Hotel last year. As we were staying for 4 weeks, it was considerably cheaper than the Nizmar for that length of time. Next year though we will stay in the many rooms available to rent, as this is again half the price! Location is pretty good, about 10 minutes walk for the beach. It is right next to the 'new' Calangute football pitch and close to many restaurants, although there is a lot of litter on the roads around the site with accompanying smells that go with it! The hotel has mainly Finish and Indian tourists, with a splattering of Brits. The European tourists are being encouraged to stay at the 'sister' hotel in Candolim the Alor Grande. The rooms are generous in size, we had a lounge, kitchen and bedroom, with no less than 3 balconies. Albeit, none of them had views to speak of, but we do like our birds and had plenty of sightings of colourful varieties from the lounge balcony. So bins and book were always at hand! Breakfast is the nomal tea/coffee, toast and jams with eggs if required. A fresh fruit platter was availble for 80 rupees. Not a hotel if you are looking for luxury, but ok if you get a good deal and pay less than 1,000 rupees a night. The going price for equivalent rooms nearby is 700 - 800 rupees for much the same. Swimming pool is bleak, very small and sheltered, not suitable for children. Staff friendly and overall pleasant stay.
Loved it!
These reviews are for the Alor in Calagute and not the Alor Grande in Candolim (previously the dom fransicso). There are two hotels and in two, very different, areas (although close to each other). I've stayed at the Alor, Calagute twice and think it's great. Staff are brilliant, evening food is great. I agree with one of the reviews that the pool is in almost complete shade, which is a shame, but not a great problem really.
Clean, quiet and good location to beach
Been to Goa twice, and stayed at this hotel twice- it is off the beaten track, so no road/ vehicle noise. You can then access a quiet part of Calangute beach in a very short walk. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, and the hotel rooms are always clean and tidy. Invariably the cleaners will make nice swans out of the clean towels they bring in, a very nice touch! There is a tailor on site, and they make made to measure clothes. For instance, in under 7 days, they made a made to measure suit for me (including adjustments etc) for £150. Outside the hotel, there are always taxis quietly waiting so you don't have to walk anywhere if you don't feel like it. My disabled father in law accompanied us the second time, and he found it no trouble (he has problems walking). The only "down" side is that the breakfast (we went B+B) was a little disappointing (in the quality of food), but this is hardly a big deal (to me).
A great Place to Stay..I strongly Recommend everyone to stay here
The Rooms are Very Clean, The Service is Amazing and the people and very soft and friendly even though its a small place.... you get the best value for your money spent. you really feel that you are taken care off well.
Great little place
I stayed in this hotel in December 2002. I found the rooms to be spacious and clean and the staff were very friendly. Overall I thought it was excellent value for money. The only downside really is the pool - it is surrounded by the hotel itself so does not get any sunlight - but who really cares when there is a fantastic beach 5 minutes walk away!
Clean rooms and friendly staff
This hotel is a little bit off the beaten track but only by a short walk. The good news is that it's quiet enough for you to get a decent nights sleep. We've stayed in other hotels in Calangute that have been really close to the main road and there is no peace and quiet! The staff at this hotel are friendly and the rooms are clean. If you're not happy with your room ask to move and they'll do all they can to accomodate you.
alor resort
Put it this way, i would find another hotel if unbooked! i stayed here for 3 days out of the 4 weeks booked here. Ended up paying out for an apartment for the rest of our stay, along with our other two travelling friends. Their opinions are simular. To be fair room was ok. feel free to email me if you've any questions on this one!
