More Traveller Reviews of Tivoli Lagos Hotel
No-one has mentioned Cafe Ketchup
from bdu
We have just returned from a week at the Tivoli and would agree with what other reviewers have said. Hotel is immaculately clean, rooms seem to vary in size and quality and its a lottery (as with most hotels) whether yours is good or bad. We had a twin room overlooking a pond, which was spacious, had a tv with several english channels and a mini bar, the bathroom had 2 sinks, bidet , shower and bath (old but immaculate) nice toiletries, but only view was of the pond and other rooms. This didn't bother us but may bother some guests. The breakfast was very good, although why don't the toasters ever work in hotels?!!! We were very surprised no one has mentioned the excellent C.K.L restaurant at the bottom of the hill and to the left from the hotel. Don't let the name (Cafe Ketchup) put you off - it's by far the best restaurant in Lagos. Excellent Danish chef-Christian , the menu is only small but has a daily special and the food and presentation is first rate, reasonably priced too. The "couvert" is something else I'll not spoil it but sardine paste and olives it ain't! also agree Escondinho is excellent, the locals thought we were mad because we only managed about 20 sardines between us also had the biggest and tastiest piece of tuna I've ever had for 8.50 euros, again don't be put off by the look of the place it's rustic to say the least. All in all apart from the odd cloudy day an excellent holiday, highly recommended.
Fabulous

An excellent hotel in a great location, both the town and marina are just a short walk away and all the staff are very friendly. It is clean and relaxing plus there is a good choice of food for breakfast. Overall I would have no hestiation in recommending this hotel to anyone visiting the Algarve. For a local restaurant in the town I would highly recommend Restaurant St Gacaolo on the Rua de Abril, the food is superb and the flambe steaks are a must!
Great Hotel, Great Beach Club
from SLF&JLF
We stayed at the Tivoli Lagos in May 2006 as part of our European honeymoon. The location of the hotel was great - just a short walk to the centre of town. The hotel was large with over 300 rooms. We initially only booked for one night, but stayed for 2 nights. The first night, we stayed in a room in the main building - it was quite a nice room, although the balcony overlooked an internal wall of the hotel - but we weren't there to sit on the balcony. We had to change rooms for the second night - this room was an older room overlooking the pool. It wasn't as nice, but still comfortable. There is also free car parking. A full buffet breakfast is offered to all guests. We thought it was very good compared to other hotel buffet breakfasts. There is free internet access, although there are only a few computers available. At least you don't get slogged with a costly fee to use it like other hotels. As the hotel is not near the beach, they have their own private Beach Club. There is a courtesy bus shuttle from the hotel to the Beach Club all day. Quite nice to sit by the pool or on the beach. You have to pay for the sunlounges on the beach though. We were there in mid May and hardly anyone used the pool at the hotel. The pool at the Beach Club was used a little more. The hotel has a Health Club. The heated pool and jacuzzi are very nice - they are free. They have some gym equipment and offer aerobics classes, but you have to pay for these. They offer memberships if you are there for an extended period of time, but we didn't bother as we were only there for 2 nights. All in all, quite a good hotel offering the best of both worlds.
My Daughter and I Stayed at the Tivoli Hotel
from everoptimistic
We had a very pleasant week. Staff were efficient - some more pleasant than others. On our arrival we requested an iron (we are very disorganised travellers) - we were advised that not only do they not hire irons - they also do not allow them to be used?? However, they did offer a laundry service of which we availed - Average E1.80 per item to be ironed - Ironing much better than we would have done ourselves - we were delighted with this service. Our room overlooked car park - next time we go we'll try to get a room overlooking pool. We will be back - Lagos great town - restaurants wonderful - Hotel great location. Try - Restaurante Don Sebastiao in the centre of town - lovely wines - Restaurante O Galeao - and also The Adega da Marine on the main promenade area which is typically Portuguese and very good value for lunch. Also Restaurant Escondidinho a family run fish restaurant which appears to be popular with locals - and also very reasonable - behind the hotel in front of GNR.
Great Position for the old town
from Roverite
Visited the Tivoli, Lagos over Easter, 2006. Greatt resort. Long sandy beach across the river; smaller rocky coves near the lgihthouse. Town is split intothree distinct areas-marina, beach, old town. Restaurants a plenty-never had a complaint about food all week. TRips out to see the dolphins were fast and fun. Coach trip with thomsons to see the end of the world and the hand of portugal mountains interesting but quite pricey. Hotel was rambling but modern with attentitive staff. We hope to return soon.
Good hotel, excellent value
from GOGYorkshire
We took an off season break at the Tivoli, Lagos in March 2006. The hotel offered excellent value. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room was good for a tourist style hotel and the facilities were excellent; it has a good indoor pool and spa facilities with treatments at a reasonable price, as well as the outdoor pool. But best of all is the Beach Club facility......we were perhaps very lucky with the weather for March but the beach club was a bonus for us.
Great experience

Tivoli Hotel was exactly what we were looking for in Lagos. This is a great town with lots to do, eat and see, and this hotel is right in the middle of it (we even stayed an extra night because we liked it so much!). Walking distance from all the shops, bars (go to "Inside Out", great little bar with great staff!) and cafes, and very close to beaches. Hotel staff weren't that friendly but they weren't horrible and they spoke english. Lounge is nice with live entertainment each night it seems, and you can snack there until midnight (did not try the hotel food as there are tons of restaurants all around!). The room was big and clean - but we were given twin beds instead of a double (but they were easily pushed together) and our balcony view was of a wall. We didn't hear any noises from other rooms or outside. This hotel is huge - our room was quite a long walk from the lobby but close to the pool, which we didn't use due to the time of year being a little cool (about 16 to 20 degrees). I would definately recommend this hotel, good price (but I heard it goes up during "high" season).
Great hotel but book the upper floors

This hotel is situated in a superb location. The facilities were excellent. Nice not overcrowded poolwith sunbeds available. Not overrun with kids since families seem to go to the nearby beach by shuttle bus. Very nice restaurants in town but hotel meals not that good. Overall v.good value.
Don't believe the hype.. no high speed net in rooms.
from TravisTravels
I booked this hotel on Expedia based on the reviews on Tripadvisor and the fact that (according to Expedia) it had high speed internet access in the rooms. It did not. High speed wireless internet was available for €50/week in the lobby and reception areas and three computers were available for public use for free. They let me try another room closer to the lobby, which actually looked like the one in the photo on expedia, but it didn't work there either. Our room was dark, cold and old. The TV remote control didn't work properly and the bathroom was tiny. I don't think they get paid much for an out of season expedia special, but no need to put me in the worst rooom in the place when better, more modern rooms were available. They called Expedia for me a couple of times from the lobby to get me another hotel with internet access; they eventually arranged another hotel for the next day. However Expedia accidentally cancelled the whole seven nights instead of the six nights left of my week in the Algarve. The hotel said I should pay. I told them I've already paid Expedia for a week but I would talk to Expedia the next day for them when I was checking out to make sure they got paid. I did this and Nelson on the desk seemed pleased when they got the fax through. All sorted, everyone happy... or so I thought. Nelson asked me to wait. He then produced a €60 bill for two calls to Expedia the previous day. I was furious, yet amused at their cheek at the same time. They called on my behalf, yes, but this was to correct a cock-up between them and the travel agent. €60 bill, I walked out scowling at Nelson. It left a sour taste to be asked, you are right though, I did not pay it.
Amazing value

My wife and I stayed for just one night on 26th Jan. I thought that the Hotel could not be faulted. Our room was very spacious, clean and comfortable, the common areas were vast and we enjoyed the breakfast. The evening meal was also very good. I would definately stay there again and would recommend it.
