Too good, the food was wonderful, the people are amqazingly kind and helpful, if you go to goa then You need to stay in the Sun Village Hotel in Arpora 1km from baga beach but well worth it. Its a real quality hotel.

second visit to Sun Village Goa
Just back from a wonderful time at the Sun Village in Goa. Rooms are large and clean with air con and ceiling fans and spotlessly clean if a bit tired. Food was good, something for everyone. The head chef was very helpful, my daughter has a nut allergy, he told all the restaurant staff to show her what she could eat and if she did not like it he would make her something else. The staff here are wonderful,a very happy place to be, service is superb. The pools are clean. The area around the pool is hosed down every morning,as are the sunbeds. There are 2 gala dinners a week on the village lawns within the hotel complex, barbecues which must be booked are held in the vilage lawn twice a week. Taxis are cheap and drivers helpful. It is cheaper to go by taxi on trips than to book through tour companies. Mandrem beach is idyllic where a beach shack cost £7.00 per person per night at the Dunes resort. The Oceanic beach shack was also nice with well trained, polite staff. We flew with Monarch ,premium cabin, no complaints at all. Reasonably priced holiday with Odyssey. Have read other reviews on Sun village and don't understand why people complain. It 's not 4 star by our standards. If you want deluxe you have to pay for it We will definitely be back next year but in January when the temperature and humidity are lower .
A truly enchanting place...
This was our first family visit to India and we really weren't sure what to expect. What we found was a wonderful hotel, set in beautiful grounds with the friendliest of staff. We befriended a taxi driver from the rank outside the hotel and this proved a much better way of seeing the area than by using the tour operator trips. Our driver took good care of us, waited for us every day and only charged about £8 for a whole day driving us around. The food at the hotel was great, the gala nights in the top garden very enjoyable and the entertainment was fun.We visited the spice plantation where our children had an elephant wash, went to a nursery school, watched dolphins from a yacht and amongst other things watched the sun set on Aswem beach. It was a truly wonderful holiday, a great experience for our children and we will definitely go back.
good place for long term
i used this place to stay for 4 months in peak season. it was excellent value for money, and provided security. it did have a few down sides....the chef couldn't cook eggs so i never ate there after that experience! the pool is great after a day in the hot sun but sometimes it gets over-run by others (whole families of indians) and the pool sometimes just needs cleaning throughout the day....by 4pm there are too many bugs and other worrying things floating in it!! also the showers....fine if you like it ice cold. there is a problem if the gardener forgets to turn the hose off....and you are living in the top floor! but apart from those it is a great place to stop for long term. it is between baga and calangute so very accessible.
great but minor irritants
Just returned from a two week holiday, first time in India, in the Sun Village. Be prepared for long, long flights and running the gauntlet of bag carriers at Goa airport to your transport. Remember this is India where earnings are a pittance, £1 is not a lot to you but is 2/3 days of food to your porters. S.V is very good and would be better apart from stupid rules regarding eating and drinking. Booking of the a la carte restaurant[which is excellent] is a joke/lottery dependent on who takes your booking. The normal wine is diabolical, answer, tip your favourite waiters early[100 RUPS per night], especially if they serve in the a.l.c. restaurant or the bar-b-q evening and get the vina ballet wine rather than the bosca [good only for cleaning your engine!]again remember the staff earn a pittance, £20 a month !!. A great hotel to meet/converse with other guests, ranging from 20 to 80 age group.Food is 70%Indian[some great dals & goan curries]and 30%continental.Don't expect pork dishes!.Regarding trips/excursions ignore your holiday company and book all your trips with DAY TRIPP for superb, personal service at virtually half the price. A professional team headed up by the owners, Enid and Eddie[N,Yorkshire folk!]you cannot fault them.In conclusion, I don't know why I'm writing this as I'm definately going back and the less you know about the jewel that Goa is the better it is for my wife and I. Please carry on going to Spain, Italy, Portugal or wherever!!
Good holiday
I booked a singles holiday and was accommodated in the Sun Village for one week. I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were basic but better than expected. If I had wanted 5 star luxury from a chain hotel I would have booked into the Marriott. Food was good at the hotel. We always managed to get our group booked for al a carte. I always managed to get sunbeds at the pool at 9am. Staff were very helpful and it always is the same anywhere in the world. Treat hotel staff well and not as servants and you will be well looked after. I am already looking at going back.
Great holiday again
Second time in Sun Village' Could not get a friendlier place, The staff are polite and helpfull. The Chef is brilliant.Highly recommend for coeliacs. Each night he would come and tell me what I could eat. Usually I could eat most things, even then often he would make me a special dish with wonderfull sauces. I have travelled worldwide often in 5 star hotel and never been able to eat as well. The accommodation is not luxury but excellent value and very clean. We had a wonderfull holiday. Friends came with us for the first time and can't wait to go back. Well done Sun Village
Second visit, not disappointed
Having stayed at Sun Village last year we had decided that we didn't want to risk another hotel and spoil our fantastic memories of Goa. With some persistance we eventually found a tour company with a vacancy. Astounded to be greeted by faces who remembered us from last year. The rooms are basic to UK standard 4 star but you have to compare it against the rooms available locally ... certainly spoken to people with horror stories. The choice of food is excellent .. if you want to go to India and eat Steak & Chips don't stay at Sun Village! If you want to sample a vast array of perfectly cooked dishes then this is ideal. No tummy problems. The Gala evenings and A La Carte at Frangipani are excellent .. even worth the climb up the steps, but we all need some exercise! We were surprised that the British in the hotel had decided that due to lack of Germans they would do sunlounger hogging by 7am (we noted that there were certain guests who laid books out the night before and a couple whose towels were on the loungers all day, they arrived at 3pm in the afternoon and vacated the loungers by 4.15pm). The hotel cannot be blamed for that and I know of complaints that were dealt with when raised by guests on this matter. Beers and water always cold, red wines and local champagne worth a try. A visit to Raj jewellers (just outside the entrance) was a must after last years bargain .. diamond ring valued at 2 1/2 times paid for in India. Try the manicure and pedicure ... perfect nails for the holiday. The Ayuervadic massage is worth a try but not for the faint hearted. I celebrated my birthday here and on returning from a day trip discovered the hotel had put flowers in the room and a delicious birthday cake in the fridge .. nice touch. Very friendly and helpful staff. We did eat out a couple of times so we could enjoy the sunset on the beach but I'd still prefer to pay the extra and have the standards at Sun Village. Planning our return trip and hoping that it doesn't become too popular and the "Hoggers" decide it's not their cup of tea!
Never again!
We stayed here for 2 weeks. The rooms were a bit basic. The food was ok but it was basically the same menu every day. After a few days we were a bit tired of the lack of choice. We ate out every night after that. We could not get a reservation in the A La carte restaurant as it was always fully booked. We could not get a cold beer or cold bottles of water from any of the bars.(Alway warm) This is an all inclusive hotel. Management were not interested as was the tour rep. There were insufficient sun beds and space around the 2 pools. You had to get up at 7 o'clock to "Claim" your sun bed. This is certainly not a 4 star hotel. We will not be back!
Beware!
This hotel has a tendency to overbook. We booked it 6 months in advance of our visit as did 2 other couples who also made the 12 hour flight to stay there. On arrival at the airport we were given the news. They'd overbooked and we were going elsewhere. Not the tour operators fault. Blame lies fairly and squarely with the hotel. The rep later told us that they do this all the time. Best advice? Look elsewhere.
Worthy of a visit.
This holdiay was our first visit to India and we were unsure what to expect. The hotel is well-maintained and is continually being cleaned. Comfortable adequate room if somewhat basic. Many steps, 64 to our room, as well as steps to dining areas and lawned gardens, so would be unsuitable for those with mobility problemms. All staff extremely friendly and do try to be helpful but some lack of ability to ensure sufficient crockery/cutlery in place. Possibly a management issue. Wide variety of well cooked food. Pool area well maintained but you need to be up early to beat the people who place towels on the sunbeds to reserve them for the day, and then are never there! Location allows the 25 mins walk to the beach to be part of the experience of Goa, although taxis available for 80rupees.
