Les Grandes Montets Hotel

Some of the rooms might need an upgrade soon, especially the washrooms. But the beds are great, and the rooms are clean. The spa/tub/pool area is excellent, clean and very functional. The hotel serves breakfast but no dinner. Some few restaurants 5 min walk away, or take the free shutle to downtown Chamonix for more choices. I hope that we'll visit the hotel soon. BTW. The hotel is located close (2 min walk) to the Grand Montet ski area, which is the best in Chamonix if you're a good skier.

We stayed there the week going into Christmas at the very start of the ski season. Thankfully the snow came early this time unlike last season. The hotel itself is in the village of Argentiere which is a good 15 minute bus ride from the town center of Chamonix. Bus rides to all the villages in the valley are free and come every 10-15 minutes. Taxi from Chamonix to Argentiere will cost about 30euros. We spent the weekend at the Hotel Les Grands as a base so we could go biking. It really was perfect. Last weekend was the North Face Ultra Trail with over 2000 competitors so as you can imagine the whole of Chamonix was booked out. I had phoned numerous hotels with no luck so I was kinda surprised to find space in the tripadvisors numner 1 pick at such late notice. We chose this hotel based on Tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed. It really was perfect - small, quiet, immaculately maintained. Argentiere is a nice location if you want to be somewhere a bit quieter than Chamonix. Every room has a balcony from which you can admire the spectacular views, a beautiful garden that is a complete sun trap... Lovely hotel with a great buffet breakfast, very nice, comfortable rooms. Located outside Chamonix in Argentiere - charming town - walk everywhere, nice restaurants. Staff at Grand Montets was exceptionally kind and helpful - going above and beyond to help when our father faced complications in his travel arrangements.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the hotel the last week of January 2007. We had a lovely Classic room that, although it was not one of the renovated rooms, was clean, comfy and had a stunning view of the mountains. This is a skier's hotel: great buffet breakfast, functional ski room with air dry boot racks, exactly 2 min on foot from the téléphérique, sauna, steam room, pool, comfy lounge with roaring fireplace and a well stocked bar! A really attractive, mountain style hotel. Much as our room wasn't incredibly large, it was pretty, clean and cosy, and we just loved the open fire with fresh peat logs every day. The view from our floor to ceiling, wall to wall window was just fabulous - right down the valley. The hotel has a good sized heated pool and reasonable gym facilities. Absolutely perfect location, 100 yards from the Argentiere lifts (best ski area in Chamonix in my opinion). Lovely rooms, all with balconies (I think) and great views either up to the Grands Montets or down the valley to Mont Blanc. We went back for our second year running this year - breakfast is excellent; friendly staff, and nice quiet pool and sauna. One tip - if you want to walk out for dinner, book a restaurant early, because the choice is more limited in Argentiere than Chamonix, and they all get full.
