Hamaca Coral by Hilton Hotel Reviews

9 / 10
Dec 2006, Miss C Vernon

I stayed here for 2 weeks. The accommodation was excellent - the rooms bright and airy, with full air conditioning. On the all inclusive package, there were buffet type meals available almost round the clock, and a choice of restaraunts that you could eat in, which were all... more

nothing but excellence
I just came back from Coral Hamaca and all I can say is that I have never enjoyed myself the way I did. The scenery was beautiful, the food was excellent, the entertainment was great. They even have their own casino within the hotel. Even though I did not win any money, I still enjoyed myself. Everyday was a new adventure for me from kayaking, snorkeling, water skiing, jet skiing, banana boat, even aerobics on the beach. I truly recommend this hotel.
Great Hotel in a great country !
First, excuse my bad English but I'm French ! Sorry I'm just reading some review and i'm really socked ! I went to this Hotel and i'm really happy ! When i see some one who say "Hotel is in e poverty place...", If you want a rich place, stay in your country !!! Dominic Republic is not a rich place and I always went around the Hotel and poverty don't egual to dangerous !! It's more dangerous to visit some places in USA or all other rich country !! For the Hamaca Hotel, the beach is wonderfull, rooms are big and nice, the only problem can be the staff... some are not really professional but it's vacation and be cool !! Boca Chica is a great place to visit the island, if you prefer stay in the Hotel, It's better to go in Punta Cana ! No Dominican people and only rich tourist...
liked the hotel but with some criticisms
We just visited the La Hamaca over the Xmas holidays and found the hotel and grounds enjoyable with some criticisms however. The pool close to our rooms was unheated and the water very cold. However the ocean was delightful and always a pleasure. We found the Mexican and Italian restaurants a suitable alternative to the buffets. Be prepared to be told by the reservationist at the various restaurants that no tables are available unless you have a prior reservation.. Just be persistant and they will find an available table. The house wines that are included are terrible so be prepared to pay extra for something decent. A safe deposit box is a must, but you must rent the lock for US 15.00/week. The beach area is nice with plenty of lounge chairs, but pretty noisy with the loudspeakers blaring for hours on end. The lunches by the beach were ok if you can eat hamburgers and roast chicken every day. The staff was quite friendly and accommodating with no attitude whatsoever. A small tip here and there really improved service greatly! A final tip...although the neighboring town is a bit rundown and ratty looking, check out the clothing bargains in the various shops.
What!!!!! The Bomb!
First of all, let me start by saying that my parents were both born in Dominican Republic. When I was growng up & visited DR every so often with my mom. Always stayed in "el campo" which was a very poor town. No running water, crazy mosquitoes, no air conditioning. My sister & I dread the fact of visiting this country. 7 years passed & this time we stayed at a hotel "The Coral Hamaca" (the previous yr. my brother & mom stayed at the resort...& they had a blast) But of course, I just had such a bad experience with Santo Domingo, that I had to see for myself. As soon as the taxi dropped us off - I was feeling the good vibe already. The employees were amazing helpful people (they don't even accept tips) The "CHOCOLATES" which were the hotel entertainers were the nicest people in this planet. The activities by the beach were fun. The food is delicious (all types of food in the buffet restaurant) The resort has 3 other restaurant within the premises. At nightime (every night), there's a entertainment show with the CHOCOLATE dancers (different shows, not the same one over & over again). After, the show - you can go drink some cocktails out on the beach by the bar (sometimes there's live entertainment there as well or even a DJ. You can also go to the club inside. They have a great music ..reggae, hip-hop, dance, salsa, merengue. the dj also takes requests. I love Dominican Republic. I love Coral Hamaca! It's the best resort I ever visited. And I have travelled a lot. I used to be a flight attendant. So, you can imagine....! I give it a 2 THUMBS UP! =)
We loved the Coral Hamaca Hotel
My husband, 2 friends and I just returned from a relaxing vacation at the Coral Hamaca. I read a lot of the reviews beforehand and was glad I didn't listen to the negative ones. The hotel was beautiful, lush and well-maintained. There were activities on the beach to keep you busy until the sun went down and then there were other nightly activities to do like the Chocolate Friends evening show and dancing at the disco, gambling, hanging at the beach or lobby bar, etc. Never a dull moment unless you make it that way. There was a lot of food to chose from. The breakfast buffet could fill you up until it was dinner (and we didn't eat until 8 every night). The Mexican restaurant and Italian both offered a nice variety of foods to choose from. We also loved the pizza bar that was opened 24 hours a day...I never thought pizza made in the Caribbean could be so good! We also left the resort and ate at "Neptune" which was a fabulous sea-food restaurant that offered so many different dishes and featured its own live shark and sting ray pen in the middle of the restaurant floor. My friends and I spent our 5 days lounging at the beautiful pool by our room which was less than a 5 minute walk to the beach (the excercise worked off all the Banana Mamas and Pina Coladas that we drank while in the pool). There is a spa that offers massages (we all had one) for between $25 to $60 an hour depending on what kind you get and for how long. The spa also does manicures, pedicures, sauna, day spa treatments and waxing. You can pamper yourself before relaxing on a lounge chair. The staff speak mostly spanish but my husband and I were still able to understand and communicate even with our little knowledge of the language (we picked up a lot by the time we came home). The negative comments said the check-in took very long...ours took 5 minutes, check out about 10. We never waited long for meals...there was always food out for us to eat (appetizers, bread, cheese) before the main course came. The resort was very safe...there were armed security guards making sure the locals stayed out. All in all, we loved the resort and would go back in a heartbeat. The price is right ($1200 for everything for 2 people) and you couldn't ask for better weather (in the upper 80s the whole trip). I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to travel to the Dominican Republic
What's the fuss????
I just returned from the Coral Hamaca in Boca Chica. I was a little nervous going there after reading some of the negative reviews here. Now I think that those that wrote negatively, were simply expecting more for than what they found. Live and Learn. Yes, there was occassions of inpromptu noise. But a drunk and loud German tourist is not the resorts fault (sound travells much more at night btw). The food was not great, even in the non-inclusive restaraunt (there is only one restaraunt that is 'not' all-inclusive). As for bugs? I saw two in the room. That is 2 or 3 less than any other I have stayed at in the Dominican - get used to it, and keep your patio door closed. I only had 2 problems with the resort. They were the shower control from hell. Didn't matter what I set it to, it seemed to dispense whatever temperature it felt like. But being in the Caribbean, not having a hot shower everyday wasn't sorely missed. And the check-in process. It takes far too long and can be much better organized. The Time Share Sales staff hit on me 4 or 5 times. Just say NO (smile). My total time spent on them was about 90 seconds. The food was ok. The variety was good, which made it easy to find something worth eating. Waking up at 3am and being able to walk down to the beach for some decent pizza was a plus. Being able (at anytime) to hunt down a staff member who was willing to delve into the kitchen and bring you a whole uncut Grapefruit or Papaya was nice. Our room was very nice, offering a view of the ocean, nice king bed, satelite tv, great a/c, and mini-bar. The beach was very clean, as are the grounds. The biggest plus for the place is the staff. They (for the most part) were extremely polite, smiling, and VERY prompt with their service (Casino being the exception). The Santo Domingo excursion is not well organized, and an excuse for selling you trinkets at the tour guides friends places in town. But I don't blame the hotel too much for that. All in all, I would definitely recomend the resort and may head back there myself in 2 months. NOTE: 3 of my 7 days there were Hurricane filled. THat was not in the brochure, but an interesting add on :)
It's all good!
In July I and 3 buddies from college stayed at the Coral Hamaca and had a ball! After reading some of the reviews I didn’t know what to expect from this place. We were pleasantly surprised. The hotel grounds are kept up very well and the rooms were great. I recommend getting a room on the side of the hotel that has the pool the rooms seemed to be newer on that side, but you are farther from the beach (who cares your on vacation). This resort is great for couples and families. There were a lot daily activities on the beach and throughout the hotel. There are nice play areas for children and the nightly show put on by the “Chocolate Friends” were good. Don’t expect a Broadway performance but they were entertaining. The Disco was cool; they played all types of music (Spanish and American). Contrary to some other reviews we thought the food was excellent. However we only ate at one restaurant which was on the pool side of the resort, the food was so good we never even bothered to try any of the other restaurants. The drinks were great; I don’t think there was a moment on the trip when we didn’t have a frozen drink or a Beer (Presidente) in our hands. The bartenders were very friendly and had no problem keeping our spirits flowing. We went on a few of the paid activities that the hotel offered. The all day tour that went La Saona Island was the best tour of the trip. Absolutely Beautiful! The 4wheel dirt bike tour was excellent and the guided tour through Santo Domingo was good too. I highly recommend all of these activities. The horse back riding tour sucked! Don’t go on it. The casino was cool it’s not Vegas or Atlantic City but you can have fun. To all the single men out there the ladies in Boca Chica are off the hook. Out of all the reviews I read no one has talked about the women. We felt like stars every time we left the resort. We couldn’t walk a block with out someone propositioning us for some company. This type of behavior seems to be typical for the area. We had no problem with it except when you’re at the Codotel trying to make a phone call to the US and they keep coming on to you. If you have to call the US go outside the resort into town and they have little places where you can make calls at it is much cheaper than calling from your room. To all the wives and girlfriends…If your mate says he’s going into town to buy some souvenirs, go with him. That might not be the only thing he picks up down there. Hint Hint….. There’s so much more I can say about this place, but I’ll stop now. All in all this resort is a great place for families, single people and married couples. It can be relaxing and exciting at the same time. We give it the thumbs up! Any other questions just shoot me an email. P.S. Bring plenty plenty plenty of Pepto Bismal, Mylanta, Imodium and any other stomach remedies because you will spend part of your trip on the Toilet.
A Fantastic Paradise!!!!
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Coral Hamaca and it was more that fantastic! I can't believe the negative reviews!!? Bad food? A pasta bar where you select the noodle, sauce, meat, and veggies, cooked in front of you, is bad? Fresh fruit and desserts? Two "included" restauraunts (Italian and Mexican) where you're catered to hand and foot? It was fantastic! And the people on the beach with clipboards? Ummm, I was looking for them to sign me up to go tubing and get my massage on the beach! $35 for an amazing hour! $10 to cruise on a tube on the carribean with my boyfriend. Awesome! And loud? What? I want to hear the music for the fun aerobics class in the water! I also like the beat during the water volleyball games! It was so much fun! I wanted to stay forever! Please go and request a room in the gardens. We were near the minature golf, gym, pool, and beach. These deluxe rooms are brand new! People with negative reviews must be old and used to eating pork with mint jelly! Enjoy it! We did! Oh, all the bartenders speak English? We had no communication problems. Just talk slow. One bartender was talking to us about Sept. 11th. The Dominican natives are so supportive! They also love american baseball. Many natives were wearing Yankees gear! And poverty? Well, if you don't want to visit a third world country, don't go! The Dominicans do live in huts, but they are brightly colored and have water and electricity, so don't feel bad. There were no beggars or people screaming at us. Go!!!! Enjoy!!!
ALL THAT
I just returned from 4 days at the Coral Hamaca with three great friends and it was amazing! I read so many bad reviews that I was almost ready to cancel. I can honestly say that I don't have a single complaint about the resort. The grounds are immaculate and very lush...they are constantly cleaning. The rooms are clean and are a nice size. There is plenty to eat and drink. I don't really recommed the Mexican restaurant but the Italian restaurant and the buffets are excellent....it is impossible not to find something you like. Even if you are the pickiest eater you can eat the pizza and BBQ on the beach. You do not need to spend a dime while you despite what other reviews say. The beach is clean and the water is out of this world. There is a large pool in the garden area with a nice swim up bar as well. Be aware you need to buy a "tourist card" for 10USD upon arrival in SDQ and another 10 upon departure. Cab ride is about 15dollars to the resort. Friday night they allow vendors to set up shop in the street in the garden area. You can really get some great deals, and if you are willing to walk down the street out of the resort you can find everthing for 75% less!!!! It is a great resort!! Five stars....
Amazing.....
I was reluctant to go to the coral hamaca in santo domingo, due to so many bad reviews. Well I'm glad I went and saw for myself. The resort was great, the workers were very friendly, the food was amazing, it was a great vacation. My boyfriend and I had a great time. My parents had also been there two years ago and they also loved it. To be absolutely honest I don't know why there are so many bad reviews, the place is outstanding. Lots of entertainment, lots to do. Our room was impecable. I advise to go and see for yourself, I would definitely go back.
