Jul 2011, motherof the bride

Had my daughters wedding here in June, and I can't thank the staff enough for their attention to detail, also how helpfull management and staff were. All guests were impressed, nothing too much bother for staff and they helped the day go beautifully!!!! they even got the... more

This must be the most beautifully situated hotel in the u.k., if not the world. We have just returned from our third stay at Forest Hills and we can't wait until our next visit. The setting, over looking Loch Ard, is breathtaking. We have visited as a couple, with our two... more

What Can I Say I’ve just Checked out today and I’ve already been back on the phone to book again. I Plan on Proposing to my Girlfriend there next time I’ve spoke to the receptionist just now and he was very helpful could not of helped any more in arranging for me a weekend plan for the best time and place to ask her. If You are planning on going don’t think just go if you need any think ask to speak to William I think he might be the concierge as well. Ok I wont go on any more just to rap it up and say best hotel in Scotland 10/10
Scottish Hospitality At Its Best!
We booked this short 3 day holiday as a Midweek Winter Break and we were not disappointed. Whether you are a sporty type or prefer a lazy break, this hotel will suit everyone from a cozy lounge to a spotlessly clean leisure centre. We received a first class service from the moment we arrived. The meal presentation and quality was excellent. Although we had a room to the rear of the hotel, the views were specatular. Staff couldn't be friendlier and our room could not be faulted. The only minor adverse comment we could make is that the... more
Superb Hotel
Had a lovely two night stay at Forest Hills. The room was superb and the staff really friendly and helpful. Best of all though was the food in the restaurant. Fantastic. Great setting but pity there is not more to do in the immediate area. A few nights is enough.
Great hospitality
Everything was great from check in to check out. Our bedroom was spotless, the food delicious. The view simply stunning. The staff and management simply charming. Will return soon and will book our daughters wedding there now.
Not worth the bother
Have just returned from Forest Hills MacDonlad Hotel, all I would say it is not worth the bother going. Despite a beautiful location the hotel itself is disappointing. The hotel is tired in appearance and the leisure facilities are stuck somewhere in the 1980's, although the swimming pool itself was ok. In fact the feel to the place was what I would compare to a holiday camp rather than a resort. Our bedroom was one of 2 feature 4 posters, room 320, had a great view of Loch Ard but was only great if you could ignore the peeling... more
Great views but forget the phone!
Lovely location. Gardens beautiful. Food was good and service charming. Main problem was outside communication - be warned there is no mobile phone coverage here and the public phone box was card only which was very unhelpful. Have to drive in to Aberfoyle to get reception or a phone card. This ought to be drawn to guest's attention. Room was large, well laid out and the bed very comfortable indeed. Fantastic views from the windows, the balcony option well worth taking up. Overall, very relaxing.
lovely setting, poor service
Grounds wellkept, view great, room large and clean and pleasant, price high for Scotland, food good but expensive, drinks expensive, breakfast buffet good but spoiled by slow service by largely foreign staff; don`t ask for poached eggs unless you like them `hardboiled`. Management thought it acceptable to have an Xmas promotion display in a wedding reception room in August until persuaded of the tastelessness of this! Decor tries to be country-house but is too uniformly vomit coloured in lounge to be welcoming. I wouldn`t rush to spend a... more
Great Location, Poor Staff.
Me and my mate stayed here as the base for a fishing trip and initially were very happy as the hotel and surroundings are spectacular. Theres plenty to do during the day for a small fee, tennis, table tennis, bowls. The boathouse can organise fishing and watersports although these are more expensive. The major problem with the hotel are the dinner arrangements and the staff. Of the 4 nights we were there, there was a wedding on 3 and the steakhouse offered as an alternative had 8 dining tables so getting a booking proved impossible 2... more
I liked it
I stayed here for a wedding which was local and the reception was held at the hotel. Assuming the hotel's chef did the food I found the food to be of high quality and thoroughly enjoyable. My room was extremely large and full of character and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. I was sad to have to leave so early to catch a flight. The grounds were quite expansive and extremely well designed. I would strongly think of coming back here again. The only sour note was when I wanted to check out at 7am I... more
The setting of this hotel is spectacular
After reading some of the reviews of this hotel we felt we'd like to share our experience - we spent a year planning our driving tour of Gt. Britain and we selected this hotel because of its location. This turned out to be one of the highlights of our enture 3 week vacation. The scenery on the drive from Stirling through the Trossachs was incredible, heightened even more by it being such a rare, sunny, and very warm day. Even though we had researched this hotel on line we were still quite unprepared for the spectacular beauty of its... more
