After spending 1 week in the Liberty between 20th September to 28th September 2006, please do not read all the bad things! Just a few pointers. The aircon gets turned off after the 15th September! What a nightmare it was well into the 30's and we were all dying in our beds... more

I visited this hotel with my young son (3). I had been to Tunisia before, but never to Skanes. I was very dubious following the reviews on here, most of them are fair - but one thing to bear in mind is that I only paid £350 for and AI holiday. I went on holiday for some... more

Loved the pool
Me and my husband stayed at the Liberty from 26th March to 9th April 2006. The hotel is clean and tidy but rather tired. The room was basic, clean bedding and comfy beds. The bathroom was a bit grotty, chipped tiles and no hairdryer ladies. Our room had a sea view which was very pleasant. Most of the staff were friendly, some too friendly. One or two of the bar staff didn't smile very much. Bar closes at 10pm but order extra on your last visit. After 10pm drinks can be bought in the Americain Bar. Be warned it is VERY LOUD in there. We have eaten all around the world and can usually find something to eat in hotel resaurants-we struggled at the Libery. After 2 or 3 days we told the head waiter in a friendly way we thought the food was of poor quality and we were trying to live on bread and soup. He was really helpful and brought one of the chefs to see us. We explained our problem and each lunch and dinner he cooked us chicken breasts, steak, turkey escolapes etc and the head waiter brought them to our table. Needless to say we tipped them well. The indoor pool is warm and was quiet when we were there. The outdoor pool is clean with plenty of sunbeds. The pool boy is very good. As soon as he sees you he brings mattresses for the beds. We had a few treatments in spa. Very reasonably priced and the 2 girls down there are very helpful. A holiday is what you make it and although there were one or two hitches we had a good time. The weather was beautiful and the other holidaymakers we spent time with were excellent company.
Won't be going back!
The hotel itself was nice and clean and the pool area was very nice but that's about the only positive thing I can say! The staff were either grumpy or way too friendly, usually the latter. My friend and I were pestered by the same people every day trying to get us to go on various trips (they're camel obsessed) and buy things. The food was awful and there was very little variety and as the only other thing nearby was other AI hotels, you don't have any easy alternatives. Sousse was not nice, the cheap prices in the market weren't worth all the hassle that went with it. Being heckled was annoying but when they physically stopped us getting past and tried to pull us into shops, we'd had enough. I do not reccommend this area for single young women but the couples we met didn't have it quite as bad (still pestered though!) We still had a good week because it was cheap and the weather was lovely but I wouldn't go back to the Liberty or to Monastir/Sousse.
A Holiday is what you make it!!!!
I have just returned from a weeks AI holiday with my mum, auntie and friend. We all had a fantastic week and enjoyed our stay immensely. The hotel itself looked a little tired but was clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were friendly and the animation team were very entertaining, and were tireless in their pursuit to get everyone involved in the activities. Although the food was not fantastic we could always find something to eat and never went hungry. When we arrived (12th March) there was a cool breeze so make sure you pack some jumpers/cardigans if you are intending to go out and about walking.
not the best
stayed here first week in march, with my wife.first off yes the hotel is nice clean.the food, breakfast french bread, bread rolls, cereal, eggs, salad, cheese meat, and last nights pasta or whatever.lunch, chips ,salads, pasta, some kind of meat.dinner went out after first night nothing taste,s of anything.the bar. never met bar staff who disliked the guests as much as their job ,not even a tip could cheer them up.the beer what % 0-1.never stayed at a hotel were you could not buy a drink untill 10-00pm.what is annoying someone always trying too sell you somthing ,massage, camel trips, etc.in the hotel.so sorry i could write a book about the minus points.on the plus side we don,t ever have go back, and we did meet some great people.O there is a hospital, don,t go to the private clinic,s they cost.i.e 40d for an x-ray.90d for the doctor to tell you ,yes your wifes arm is broke, long story. but don,t let me put you off. J.
Stayed 26.3.06 - 05.03.06
I stayed here for a week with my fiance at the end of March 2006. All I can say is that it was horible. The food looked inedible and once tried was inedible! The 'all-inclusive' deal is a rip off. How it can be classed as all-inc. i will never know. We ended up eating out most nights as the food was so bad and barely touched the all inclusive bar due to the bad selection which included two cocktails (apparantly). If you want a decent drink you have to wait until 22:00 and then pay for it. The entertainment was dire and the hotel staff never smiled. The bedroom was ok, but the bathroom had a lot to be desired with the shower holder fallen off the wall and the toilet roll holder going the same way. Our bed sheets didnt get changed and we dont think that our towels did either. For a better deal go to the Sahara Beach Complex which is about a 10 minute walk away but looked 100 times better. I could write a lot more but will save you all from the 'Horrors of Liberty'. All in all an experience I cant wait to forget and I would suggest everone keeps away from. HAPPY HOLS! :-(
not bad
hotels first impression was lovely beautiful looking pool area all inclusive bar was very disappointing only six drinks and the bar shut at ten in the evening , food was bland a lot of bones in all meat fussy eaters would struggle for a week most staff were friendly but bar staff did not smile at all.The locals really got you down when you went out but if you can cope then you need to be srong willed to keep saying no all the time.Room was clean and basic no tea facilities which was hard in the morning if you want a cup of tea.anamation team lovely but they like the ladies so bewere if you take your daughters. overall what we paid was reasonable good value.weather was good so we did not have to venture to much sat around pool area with drinks.would probably not go back again.
Not a bad as everyone says!!!
I stayed at the Liberty during the half term week and as a mother on her own with a five year old was extremely worried after reading the previous reviews. The resort of Skanes is poor and I would not say it is ideal for Children but the hotel itself is very under rated. The hotel was big, bright spacious and very welcoming. I did not feel intimidated by staff, in fact they went out of they way to be kind to me. The animation team were full of enthusiasm and tried to get everyone involved in their activities no matter what age and where from which was nice to see. The true meaning of all inclusive is not expressed well by the hotel and to a first time holiday maker could of been perceived as a let down.... But every morning breakfast was available and of a nice variety, lunch and dinner had a limited variety and KIDS food is non existant if you just want to feed your children processed junk food for the whole holiday, this is not the place to stay. However my son found plenty to eat, he enjoyed the variety and tried things that I didn't think he would even look at twice. If you want a totally indulgent eat for 23 out of 24 hours holiday, this is not the place for you, but if you want 3 meals a day, have a few drinks in the evening and a good atmosphere then I can recommend the Liberty. Not a couples only hotel where the idea of a good holiday is so different to which I had. It was not an issue to me that the drinks finished at 10pm. I fell down some stairs, which was my own fault as I was running in the quiz night to get my answer in, while there and needed alot of support, as I hurt my leg and ended up on crutches for the remainder of my hols but the hotel staff and medical team were good and tried to help me as much as possible, it didn't ruin my holiday at all. I would say, do not let the reviews put you off, its worth a visit to see for yourself.
Great holiday, if you are looking for a cheap and cheerful!
got back from the liberty on 26th feb and had a great time. all staff are friendly and helpful, rooms basic but clean. i have to agree with the previous review - main area to let down the hotel is the food. it is stodgy, bland, and by the end of the week becomes difficult to eat - i ended up losing weight. the animation team are very cheesy, but strangely entertaining. there appeared to be little to do for children, but the indoor pool and play area seemed to keep them relatively occupied. a word of warning if you are going as single women - be careful when you venture out of the hotel. men will follow you and harass you for sales, and when you politely refuse, they can become quite aggressive. people who went shopping with their husband/boyfriend did not encounter the same level of harassment. also, do not go on ali baba's camel trip. the animals were horrendously treated, with obvious signs of terrible neglect and abuse. i felt uncomfortable paying for a service which obviously does not go towards the upkeep of the animals. despite the above, i had a great time. it was a very enjoyable holiday, with friendly staff, great entertainment, and the spa treatments are very cheap and very relaxing.
Liberty Hotel, canny
You get what you pay for and it is what you make it, sums up the Liberty. Skanes as a resort is dead beyond your hotels walls. Taxi from the airport is a doddle, 6 Dinar, but if fresh off plane £5.00. 2 ATMs in airport, turn left when you come out of arrivals, one in front of information desk and one behind. Hotel Liberty is reasonable, standard white building. Clean reception, fairly impressive. Rooms fair size, twin beds, balcony, fair size bathroom. I had seaview very good. Bedding changed every 2 days, cleaners very thorough. Towels changed on request. Leave on bathroom floor. Food, if anything lets the Liberty down. Very little for children. very little for the burger n chips kiss me quick lot. The food is based on Tunisian food but is a blander version. We managed to get our fill every meal. All inclusive drinks bog standard basic 1/2 lagers and small glasses of wine. Some local cocktails, never tried one so can't comment. The bar where you pay had a better selection. 3 dinar a pint. 7.5 a double whiskey. Entertainment. The animation team will either get on your nerves or you will love them. bingo, arabic lessons, archery, table tennis, chess, dart games, dance lessons, aerobics, bowls. there is something for everyone. The pools were good but cold this time of year. Indoor pool good, Gym rubbish
bad staff
i stayed at the liberty hotel in feb 06 and i was not impressed with the staff at all the bar staff was rude and seem to begrudge serving you drinks and you got pesterd by the annimation team who are very willing to take advantage of any western women who fall for the chat up lines i have witnessed the bar dj escourting a drunk women to her room while the reception staff looked on and did nothing iwill certainly not be returning to the liberty again and as for the food it is agreat place if you intend to lose weight as most of it is inedible
