Please please, do not book a holiday taxi from Monistir airport as it was the biggest rip off of the holiday you will be charged £42.00 for up to 4 passengers.
Book your transfers with your holiday or step out side and get your own taxi. Cost 6-7 dr
As for the hotel the rooms were kept clean, the bar if you can call it that your chooses being.-
'Beer, wine red, white, two types of cocktail sangria by a glass and soft drinks.
You will also find they will reduce the amount you can order at one time when they get too busy. There is the American bar but you will have to pay for all drinks.
Do not expect free snacks as you have to pay for this in the afternoon by the pool.
Entertainment very good the animation group will have foot tapping and side soar with laughter and the kids love them.

I went to the Liberty hotel in Nov 2005 and my previous review is still live. I enjoyed it so much then with my girlfriend that we decided to go back. Fortunately, I was able to make friends back in November with the staff and was looking forward to seeing them all again
As soon as we got to the hotel, the staff jumped out of the pool, came straight over to us and hugged us, getting wet I didn’t mind too much as it was fantastic to see how much the staff appreciate their guests.
Although I love the Liberty hotel, my one problem that I have is the all inclusive bar. One staff member in particular whom I didn’t really like before hadn't livened up since and to be honest was a complete *******, he poured only 3/4 pints of beer for a man standing in front of me in the queue, when the man asked for his pint to be topped up, the barman started muttering Arabic and it was clear he wasn't happy. It was too obvious and very embarrassing for the barman that the English person standing behind me spoke perfect Arabic and stuck up for the customer - very funny. But don’t let this put you off.
There are lots of British people who stay at these kind of hotels looking for bargain getaways expecting to have paid £300 all inclusive for a holiday to be served chips & gravy or Burgers with Ketchup, Tunisia isn't like this, if you don’t want to experience local culture whilst on holiday then why go on holiday to begin with?
The entertainment team, Kimo, Neno, Patrick, Joe, Bobo, Titi, Tomas & Midoo are fabulous, never have I met such a nice group of people. For people who earn approximately £40 a week and work 18 hour days they are the nicest and most noble people you can meet. They run shows every night and even when they are finished they carry on the entertainment in the small American bar till about 3am, I’m not usually someone who stays somewhere until it closes but the entertainment team are so much fun to be around you cant help but want to stay with them as long as possible.
The restaurant is lovely, salad is lovely and not bland, a wide range of meat products from German stews, Tunisian broths etc.
We have already booked to go back in August so can’t wait, Bebe we miss you!

Hello,
I just like to say I had an amazing time at the liberty hotel! Firstly the weather was gorgeous the food was nice and the entertainment was excellent.
I'm a young energetic person and if it wasn’t for the animation team i would of not enjoyed it as much as I did. They work so hard trying to make your stay as pleasant and fun as possible no matter how old you are. The shows they preformed were excellent and activities in the day too. A big shout out to DJ Nino who was mint on the night at the bar for the songs. And to the rest!
Secondly the food was good I personally don't mind croissants, rice, chicken, soup ETC.
Just trying to get to the point is there’s much, much more than that. The AI drinks are Ok if you like white/red wine and beer. Sorry that’s all that’s available on your card. Other drinks like spirits you have to pay for. Oh and at 10 the bar closes so get about 10 rounds of what you want it will last you!
The actual town itself is surrounded by hotels, so if you want to do more then you can book excursions which will take you to the Sahara Desert.
Overall my holiday was really, really good and I would like to go back again. Best thing, entertainment they work so hard and you meet so many friends.
The people who say it's bad are the people who are stuck up and don 't appreciate anything or don't no how to have fun!

Just returned from Liberty Hotel in Skanes and I agree with all the good reports, just ignore the bad ones. After reading the bad ones I was expecting the worst but have returned and am ready to book again (even if it is just to dance with kimo) I was there on my own with my 11yr son and made so many new friends it was amazing. Because there isn’t anything outside the hotel you stay put so this brings the guests together, either before your evening meal or after, I’ve never sat and chatted with so many people on holiday before it was really sociable.
The food was certainly edible perhaps breakfast was the poorest but croissants and jam are great after you've partied till 3am. I went for a meal in Port el Kantaoui and went to a very popular restaurant my brother had recommended and found the meals in the hotel were better. I did find some of the dishes a little bland like the scrambled egg and omelet but when catering for so many different nationalities you can't flavour the meals to every ones tastes and there’s always salt and pepper on the table.
We had a Chinese night one night and the curry they served was excellent along with an aubergine dish with a creamy mushroom sauce, my advice is just get a little and try it then go get some more.
The animation team are excellent! if you join in the activities it is again a very sociable way of meeting the other guests and myself and my son did everything, it was great fun! They are very talented and really try and make you enjoy your holiday.
The only niggle I had and only a small one was one of the reception staff, usually on early evening, kept short changing me on the exchange rate, when I asked if the amount was correct he abruptly replied what was my problem, so get a receipt! After reading the other bad reviews about the staff, I made a point of saying hello to all the staff and found everyone to be very friendly and polite, even the guys in the shop, I never felt uncomfortable or intimidated by any of them.
Watch out for the mozzies I usually do get bitten when abroad but they were terrible, I got more bites in the American Bar and Reception than anywhere else.
We did the Sahara excursion which although was 2 days traveling around 1000 miles was very interesting and educational and the changing scenery was amazing. I would recommend a travel neck pillow for the bus as you do have some early mornings and it was easy to catch up on sleep and more comfortable using the pillow.
With regards to the sun bed mattresses, we were told on Friday we had to pay for them but hadn’t had to all week. Reception explained that they were not included in the AI except for 1 nationality, I think it was German, but after a bit of negotiating they allowed us to continue but would charge all new guest that were arriving I think it was more to do with the start of their season.

First of all do not listen to any of the bad reports you have read about this hotel. What a load of rubbish! We are both two 18 year old girls who went with their grandparents for 1 week and we all had an amazing time. The hotel was lovely, the food wasn’t great but we never starved, the weather was fantastic and all the hotel staff couldn’t do enough for you to make you feel welcome in their country.
The animation team were great at their jobs and fantastic too look at! They made our holiday. The nightclub was more of a family room where most the shows were performed by the very talented dancers and entertainers. After the shows you could carry on dancing in the American bar which we loved the music was mainly catered for English with modern music and modern dancing from the lads. You could also sing karaoke, we opted out of that lol
It was the animation team that made our holiday what it was, who always brought a smile to your face, however watch out for their chat up lines they’re very good at it. lol we miss them all and the beautiful country and weather. That’s why were going back next month! With all our love too the animation team, we miss you all and we will see you very soon!
Enjoy x

We have just returned from the Liberty after a glorious week at the end of March 06 and we would all go back tomorrow!!!!!
Our two young girls enjoyed the warm weather, pools, interesting food, culture, trips and the fabulous kids club.
The Hotel porters, cleaners, shop staff, waiters and in-house entertainment ("animation team") were all excellent and fluent in English, French, German and Arabic. Within easy reach of the hotel are Sousse (bustling cosmopolitan centre) and Sahline (more traditional and industrial) both a couple of pounds away by plentiful and cheap yellow taxis.
However, we can see why people have been disappointed.
First, don't expect Skanes to be a town, village or anything else. It is just a recently developed strip of land between the airport and a long, golden, narrow beach. Secondly, if you sit around at the hotel you will encounter people whose idea of a holiday is to smoke, drink and play cards all day. Just leave them to it.
Thirdly, the choice of excursions is initially a bit baffling and there are always compulsory 'add-ons' e.g. if you go on the (excellent) camel-rides at 30 dinars, you will find yourself spending a further couple of pounds here and there on hats and the obligatory photo session. Y
ou will need to accept that these people need dinars for their livelihood and it is only a few pence really. Finally, don't bother with the medina at Monastir - unfortunately, there are far too many shopkeepers chasing far too few tourists and their shop keeping techniques were too aggressive for us.
Our advice would be: if you understand clearly what you are signing up for, this hotel is among the best you will ever stay in at this price range i.e. under two hundred a week for the whole family, meals included. Finally, the reception staff are abrupt, but who cares? They are stuck indoors all day!

Don't believe everything you hear??? 5 of us went to the liberty hotel, for 11 nights, it was the best holiday and fun we’ve ever had, rooms 100%, entertainment 110% only the food was not of much choice but what can you expect, the price of the holiday no one can complain.
Animation group was spot on kids loved it, camel ride was good and so was the trip to the Arabian nights which we booked from hotel. People friendly, apart from the lads in the shop in reception, lol a bit pestering but once you got chatting to them they were fine. all staff couldn't help enough. pools good, beach just across the road, indoor pool was heaven.
Weather was perfect in fact, don’t always believe what you hear. Would go straight back to liberty without out a doubt, never made as many friends whilst there, from all over the world. This is where the fun begins.

Well what can I say apart from amazing. Although the hotel is in the middle of nowhere and food not very good, this is the best holiday we have ever had and will never forget.
Animation team made our holiday as well as friends we made and were laughing everyday and every night. I couldn’t have wished for nicer entertainers, and friends. We just got back and want to go again, very, very soon.
If anyone goes say hello from Sarah, Hollie, Rita and Marko. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

All in all I had a great holiday... There were a few niggles but nothing to make me write a bad report.
Word of warning.... The hotel is situated in the middle of nowhere. Nothing is just a walk away but the taxis are dirt cheap and very reliable. On our first taxi ride we had a very nice driver who spoke very good English and he gave us his telephone number so that we could call him whenever we needed picking up and taking anywhere.
On entering the hotel, the lobby was very clean and spacious with plenty of comfy seats for you to feel at home on when you arrive.
The bedrooms were clean and spacious too with plenty of cupboard space for you to not have to live out of your suitcase all week. All rooms were air conditioned and had a balcony or terrace. I had a sea view and it was great waking up to that every morning. You have a TV with British channels (well..... one but that’s better than nothing... because if you go away to watch telly then you are really weird). Its good enough to watch if you are getting ready to go out etc...... or just feel like relaxing.
The all inclusive bar is always clean but the bar staff can be a bit obnoxious so make it clear if you know that you should be served next as they will go to someone else instead (on purpose..... I’m not sure). There isn’t a very good range of drinks included in your all inclusive deal..... You have red, white and rose wine which are all lovely, local beer that is just like San Miguel and 2 different kinds of cocktails which is made with Bhouka (a locally produced vodka type drink).
The evening entertainment was fantastic..... the animation team will put a smile on your face. They are always on the go during the day and night and have lots of activities going on throughout the day..... including aerobics (which they call stretching), water aerobics, swimming lessons for those who cant float well like me, archery, bingo, darts, basketball, ping pong (table tennis to you and me). They even teach you how to speak and write Arabic (I can't say I'm fluent now but it's a heads up). The list is endless. My animation team consisted of the manager Mido, DJ Be Be, The man who never sits still Patricke, Dancer Kimo, Music man Nino and Joe who is hilarious when he dresses up as a women for the cabaret.
They are all great guys and will look after you.
As for the guys from the shop..... Their bark is worse than their bite. They are harmless men with a lot of fake love to give. I learnt how to say "I’m not interested" in Arabic so they left me alone most of the time. I suggest you do the same.
I would definitely go back to Hotel Liberty again as I met some great people there and shared some fantastic memories.
Enjoy x

The food was pretty mediocre, but we never went hungry. There was always about five main courses to choose from, but mostly aimed at the German/French tourists, so big ‘hunks’ of meat or omelettes are par-for-the-course. Dessert was pretty boring, usually had ‘two’ to choose from – the same cake but with a different icing on it. Lots of bread to fill the hole, if nothing takes your fancy.
Every day whilst you’re having your dinner, a small boy dressed in traditional gear, will come around and try to sell you roses. You do get harassed quite a bit in the hotel lobby, usually after you’ve had your first meeting with your rep. There is a bloke from a firm called Ali Baba who puts the hard word on you to buy a camel ride or quad bike ride, or you’ll have the bloke from the hotel beauty salon, Mr Massage, try and sell you a massage or beauty treatment.
English is not the first language in Tunisia, so you may have some problems with the lingo unless you know French or German.
The room is a reasonable size, and if you’re lucky you can get one with a sea view. The cleaner could give the floor a once-over with a vacuum, but for the most part the room was comfortable & clean.
The best part of our stay, was when we went to the Sahara, which is about 125TD p/p for two days (includes Camel ride & jeep safari to desert oasis). The jeep ride is extra, and is 40TD, not 30-35 TD as quoted by the reps. This trip was the highlight of the whole holiday!
As the hotel is located half-way between Monastir or Sousse, you can catch a taxi for about 6-7TD to either town. Make sure you agree the fare before you get into the taxi, unless the driver has the meter on (which doesn’t happen very often), even with the meter it should be around 7 TD.
There is no ATM at the hotel, visit the one at the airport (just outside the arrivals gate where your rep will probably be waiting for you). There are also ones at Monastir or Sousse.
If you are on a package and flying out late in the day, you can keep your room until you leave for your flight, for 20TD. Just pay reception after you’ve had your breakfast.
When you arrive in Tunisia, it takes at least an hour to get through immigration at the airport (for UK passport holders), any other nationality (like me!!) who requires a visa can expect to spend at least 2 hours at immigration and you’ll probably miss your hotel transfer. If you require a visa, get it before you go to Tunisia, less stress in the long run.
Last piece of advice – check the weather in Tunisia before you go!!! It is not like Egypt and warm all year round, the weather in January was wet & windy, we didn’t have any sunshine until we went on our Sahara trip. This meant we couldn’t use any of the hotel outdoor facilities and were pretty much confined to the hotel.

I spent Christmas and New Year here and I’ve got to say never never again. I’ve been to some bad places in the past but this has got to top the lot.
We paid £420 each and now I have returned I feel disappointed. The food was awful, and if you eat anything except bread then you get an upset stomach. A lot of the meat is pink inside, I don’t know how med hotels can get away with the set up of this hotel.
As for the people in Tunisia, they want to go back to school and learn what the words "no thank you" means, because they try and sell you something and don’t take no for a answer, very annoying and it made a bad holiday turn into a awful holiday.
Oh and unless you speak French you will have a problem with communication.
Hope this is of help.

On arriving at the Liberty Hotel, I can safely say it was exactly how it looked in the photos supplied!
If you are looking for a quieter holiday then the beach is the place to go - it is lovely down there, the sea is beautiful and it is great for children as the first 100m of the sea is a massive sand bar, so fab for paddling. Please beware of the parasailing though, as although it looks so fun, the Tunisians aren’t as safety conscious as we are and I now have two broken ribs!
The pool is fab too, plenty of space and sun beds. There is plenty of food, and it never runs out but it can seem a little repetitive, we went to the pizzeria (forming part of the hotel), you have to pay for this, but a fillet steak is £5! So well worth it!
The staff are the friendliest I have ever encountered, so welcoming and lovely! I hope that you have a lovely time here too!
