My husband, myself and our son 13 stayed at this hotel in Feb 2006 half term holiday from school. The hotel is fab, food good, very clean, pleasant staff.
The downside was...full of German OAPs, they are rude and very selfish! To say it is advertised as a family hotel nothing for a teenage boy to do except play pool and table tennis. No children’s rep or any entertainment going on in the day.
Good job we found our own entertainment on a evening, it was like sitting in an retirement home!!!!

This is a very good hotel if you don’t mind the lack of English people as the hotel is 90% German.
We stayed half board and the food was very good but if you have breakfast on the terrace don’t leave your bread unattended as the birds will be in it! cleaning was excellent and the only downside of the holiday was the complete absence of the Portland holiday rep!!
If you need an English bar there is one directly opposite

My wife and I booked into Arecas after a previous holiday at the Riu Palace, across the road. We found the hotel exceptionally friendly, clean and just perfect. The food was superb and lots available. The entertainment was certainly better than the Riu Palace.
During the day the young entertainment manager came around and let us know what activity was coming on and it was up to us whether we joined in. We took the opportunity to join in with boules and darts and table tennis as that way we got to meet new people and made new friends.
This we found was the perfect hotel to stay for a nice quiet holiday with lots of relaxation. Plenty to do if you want and some lovely walks along the prom. Reading other reviews I wonder if they in fact stayed a the same hotel!!! We are going back again this year and look forward to it very much.
