Only Three Star Hotel
from azzo
My wife and I have stayed at this hotel on another occassion. I like the hotel because of its position by the sea and quiet aspect. Since the previous visit this hotel has been upgraded but I am afraid only to a 3 star status and not 4 star as it is claimed. The staff at this hotel are very helpful and the rooms are clean. Our main complaints about this hotel is the food which is served as buffet style but falls short of style and imagination and on most days it is quite bland, tasteless and not a lot of choice. Second concern is the lack of air condition in the rooms although you have some cold air blowing through a grill but is not man enough to keep the rooms cool in the hot and saultry Maltese days and nights. Third complain is that this hotel do not have a porter to carry your luggage to your room when you arrive.
very good but.....

A party of 7 of us stayed at this hotel at the begining of july, overall it was a very good holiday but I was very dissapointed with the size of the swimming pools [these looked very large on the photos as did the beach ].The standard of the hotel [cleanliness etc] was excellent and the service was very good except for the poolside bar ,on numerous occasions it took ages to get served and when you did the food was left on the side by one particular waiter until it was cold [I fetched my own in the end] Also be aware that this hotel is open to the general public at the weekends and the staff [through no fault of their own] didnt seem to cope with this influx [it got packed] We were all inclusive and sometimes you were overlooked at the bar by the staff giving preference to paying guests. The rooms were of a high standard and the maid service was excellent. The food is of a very high standard with various choices of meats, fish and salads. We did struggle some nights with my 11 year old as there wasn t a great choice of childrens food. The beach is very small but has a great choice of watersports but beware of the jellyfish!! The beach could of done with a bit of a clean up as there were on occasions litter and carrier bags etc in the sea. Make sure you book the blue lagoon trip as this was excellent.Overall I would recommend this hotel but as I have stated be prepared for the weekends as there is limited room around the pool and the serving time at the pool bar can be very very slow. Buses are very cheap and the bus stop a few minutes walk away. If you use taxis make sure that you agree on a price before as they can be very expensive! A great hotel if you wish to have a chill out holiday as not much entertainment at nightime.
Fantastic Place

We stayed at the ramla bay for the last two weeks in June and held our wedding reception there. There was a group of about 15 of us. The ride from the airport to the hotel is a bit arduos (about 40 minutes by taxi) but once we arrived in the hotel, we found it excellent. Reception staff were very friendly and efficient The rooms are very spacious and we had a superb seaview of Comino and Gozo. We would definetly recommend upgrading to a seaview. Mini Bar was stocked on arrival and had some local wines, beers and soft drinks. Cleaning was daily and of a high standard. The beach at the ramla bay is quite small but never crowded so you can always find a lounger and parasol. The two pools are excellent with plently of loungers and a good poolside bar and restaurant serving Pasta, Salads, Burgers, Chips etc. Food at the ramla bay is brilliant, for two weeks, not a single person in our group had any complaints, the buffet was plentiful and varied and replenished quickly and the quality of the food was of an extremely high standard. Our Wedding reception was outstanding and the staff couldn't do enough to make our day really special. The food in the outdoor restaurant (Alang Alang) was magnificent as well as the view especially as you can watch the sun set over Gozo. The Ramla Bay is a brilliant place for people who like to relax in a lovely location with good food and service. If you want a hectic nightlife then it is not the place to go as you either need to rent a car or take the bus to get to any major town. Similarly if you plan to do alot of sightseeing then be prepared for the long drive into Valletta. We had a fantastic time, and many thanks to Joseph (Manager), Mandy (Reception), Rose (Cleaner) and especially to Brian (Food and Beverage Manager) for making our stay one we will always remember.
new and nice place to stay on malta

i was travelling alone to malta and stayed in this hotel; the rooms are big, nice bathroom and all very clean; hotel is just one year old; staff is very friendly and helpful; food is not exciting but every day i found something that was ok on the buffet; the nice thing is that the hotel is located right by the sea with a nice view to the islands gozo and comino and its just a short busride to the ferries that bring you there; nice little private beach and close to the bus station that takes you to melliehs bay, the biggest sandy beach on malta; if you are looking for a nice and quiet place to spend your holidays i can recommend this hotel - especially if you have children - they will enjoy the little beach, the childrens pool (with some animation for the little ones going one) and playground.

I am 22 years old, and my boyfriend and I stayed at the Ramla Bay in September 2004 as part of an All-Inclusive vacation package. It was a good deal, and I definitely got my moneys worth! The hotel interior was impressive, and the room was standard, no frills. Comfortable beds. I don't know what other people are saying in their reviews about not changing sheets, mine were changed everyday, as well as towels, and garbage, they even moped the floor everyday. There was construction going on while we were there, on the interior pool for example. You didn't even need an interior pool with the ocean and outdoor pool. Despite construction, you didn't hear any drills or hammering. All the meals were what you would expect from a buffet, you always find something you like. I liked how they had both a British and an European style breakfast buffet for example. Outdoors, there was a pool area and beach area. The beach was very small, I didn't even use it. It had sand, but generally Malta has a very rocky topography. Bring flip-flops! The hotel was situated in this little bay, part of which was closed off for swimming/snorkeling. I spent hours snorkeling everyday in Malta, right in the hotel bay and Comino. Also by the pool area was a scuba and water sports place, both cost extra and aren't too cheap but very fun. If you go to Malta you MUST MUST MUST MUST go to the blue lagoon at Comino (2.5 km2 island), it was one of the most incredible places i have ever been to in my life. Snorkeling and diving are amazing there! Caves and amazing rock formations! Incredible! We walked all over the whole island in a about an hour. The hotel water sports offers a cheap ride to and from Comino everyday, they even ride with you to some of the caves along the way to the lagoon. there is also a ferry to Gozo near the hotel. Otherwise as stated in other reviews, it is far from town and you are pretty much isolated at the hotel. I did go on one bus trip into the city of Mellieha however, for the Our Lady of Mellieha procession/celebration. What a beautiful city, really friendly people. There is also one club in the bay of the hotel, always a party going on there in the evening, good music. My only complaint was that sometimes at night they would turn off the air conditioning in the middle of the night. Also the staff is very friendly and helpful. i would only recommend going here however, if you were doing an all inclusive vacation. hope this was helped! have fun!

My partner and I have just returned to England after spending a week at the Ramla Bay Hotel. My partner is an avid tennis player and therefore was disappointed to find the tennis courts not "flood lit" as described in the brochure but in fact covered with building supplies therefore rendering them unuseable. The outdoor swimming pool was also out of action due to building works but the indoor pool certainly sufficed as the weather wasn't exactly amenable every day so this wasn't really a concern. There was table tennis in the "games room" but nothing else, I suspect this room was also under some kind of reburbishment as there were unfinished light fittings etc. There was no nightlife to speak of. On one occasion a two-man band provided some music and song but other than that, nothing. On a more positive note, the food was enjoyable and plenty of it. We were half board and quickly found that breakfast and evening dinner certainly provided us with enough calories (in fact I believe we both put on a little weight!). The staff in the dining room were very pleasant and accommodating. The location was a little off the beaten track but we had a room with a spectacular view of the ocean. As we both enjoy walking and hiking being slightly isolated from the main towns and the capital was not a concern to us. In fact if you want a rather quiet, relaxing holiday I would recommend the Ramla Bay during the autumn and winter months. We took the local bus to all the major towns, very cheap and easy. We also took advantage of some tours being offered which was also a good way to explore and enjoy Malta. All in all, we had a good time. I would certainly return to the Ramla Bay Hotel once all the reburshment has been undertaken and completed.
Not For The Party Animals

Booked a twin room for sole occupancy with sea view and is well worth the extra expense. In addition the All Inclusive option is a must and is not expensive in the context of charging. The hotel is within easy reach of the Gozo ferry ( an Island well worth a visit ) but about an hour from the Capital Valetta and the night spots of Sliema and PaceTown. Buses to the capital(45) depart from the bus stop five minutes walk away if you take the short cut but stop service in the early evening, so a night out would need a hire car.Entertainment in the hotel is limited to cabaret singing and music from the 60's and 70's. The food, bearing in mind the diverse age groups and nationalities seemed to be well received by all, was well presented and no complaints over menu choices. The fitness room was poor with the equipment looking in need of an overhaul itself.Quicker way to lose those pounds is to go for a walk. Swimming pool area has plenty of sunbeds and parasols for those requiring shade from the direct sunlight, but the small beach although having plenty of sunbeds was short on sun protection. There is an adequate area for children to play, swings etc, and the indoor swimming pool proved popular. There is a pool table and internet access for those wanting to keep in touch with news from elsewhere, however I found the reception on the TV in my room to be poor. A small shop on site provides the basic necessities including newspapers a day old and magazines. This is a perfect hotel for those wanting a get away from it all holiday, good quality rooms although like other reviews I would endorse the need for a room on the 2nd or 3rd Floor as any lower and views are limited by other outbuildings. I would class the hotel as excellent three star or moderate four star with friendly staff, rooms well maintained and a modern feel to it.Would definately visit again if I needed another totally relaxing week away. #
A pleasant location.

I stayed at this hotel in Oct 05 and was very satisfied with it. My single room was at the front of the hotel but still had a nice sea view. The room was well decorated, clean and the bed was comfortable. In the dining room, the food was good and the staff were pleasant. A downside is that there is no information in the rooms regarding hotel facilities, opening hours etc. and the indoor swimming pool was still to be finished. The outlook from the beach side of the hotel is probably one of the best in Malta looking out on to the islands of Comino and Gozo and the Gozo ferries which run throughout the day. However, it is an isolated location and there are no local shops or alternative places to eat other than in the hotel. Having said that, the baguette rolls from the bar were very good.
average entertainment very poor

This hotel will be much better when refurbishment complete. Indoor pool not complete and while we were there work still going on in areas through out hotel. Ask for a room on 2nd floor upwards. We started off on the ground floor. This room was very basic and did not seem to have been completed with proper furnishings. To be fair to the hotel we ask to be moved and was offered a room on the 2nd floor. It was far superior and was more the standard expected of a 4* hotel. Staff very friendly. Entertainment was none existant in the daytime and below avereage in the evening. We were glad to be all inclusive no bars or restuarants around. Very good bus service. Gozo very easy to reach from this hotel - no need to go on organised trips. This hotel will be better when refurbishment complete and if they manage to get decent entertainment.
