Thames Lodge very odd hotel
I had to go to Staines on business, the company that I was visiting said that the Thames Lodge was the place to stay. On the train journey into Staines I thought I saw the Thames Lodge, but thought that can't be it as it's so close to the railway line. After a short walk from the station I asked directions and was pointed in the correct direction for the hotel. At reception I found the door man and receptionist very welcoming and was looking forward to my stay. I was shown to my room (no 69), which was in the old building... more
Disappointing
We stayed one night in this hotel in July in a superior room. I agree with other reviewers about the maze of corridors. We had one of the newer rooms (I think) overlooking the Thames at the back of the hotel. Unfortunately, it was a warm day/evening and we couldn't open the windows more than a couple of inches which was a shame. Without air conditioning, the room was unpleasantly hot overnight. The card by the empty ice bucket in the room invited us to ring reception for ice which we did but it never arrived. The restaurant looked... more
Quaint
The hotel is in a nice setting on the banks of the Thames. The English Breakfast during the week is good. (At weekends it tends towards mass produced buffet.) It's nice having a mini-bar fridge in the room. It's convenient to the main shopping area, a number of restaurants and bars, and the Staines train station. Unfortunately, the hotel lacks the things that one might expect for the price. It tends towards the quaint. There was no air conditioning. Given the increasingly hot British summers this is a real problem. Especially... more
Awful Night Away!
This is my first review on this site, and please understand that I am not in the habit of complaining! But simply had to share my experience of this hotel. Will keep it breif: Public areas are very tired, worn and scruffy Staff appear tired, frustrated and miserable Room (we were in the older part of the hotel), had very little ventilation unless you chose to have the patio door wide open, in which case you could not shut the curtains, or enjoy any security. Admittedly it was a warm day, but room was unbearable. Balcony... more
Expensive, mixed opinion
This hotel is attempting to be a high class facility but misses the mark in a lot of areas. I stayed in two different rooms (executive and double class) and had completely different experiences in each. The 'executive' was spacious, well apointed and comfortable. The 'double' was none of those things. The hotel layout clearly indicates a series of additions over time, creating a maze of hallways and stairs cases. I found all the extra charges (phone calls, paper, laundry) to be unreasonably priced and, at £140, or so night a bit... more
difficult booking on line
Stayed for a weekend with other friends. The online booking we made was totally different to the confimation thet we had and we were not the only ones to suffer the same fate. We booked 2 rooms for 2 nights for 2 people They had us down for 1 night for 1 room and 2 nights for another more expensive room It took some explaining what we wanted eventually the manageres came and sorted out the problem. The room was reasonably clean except for the travel rug on the bed which had a few marks on. The lighting in the room was dreadful, it was so... more
A pleasant overnight stay
We stayed at The Thames Lodge Hotel in Staines for one Saturday night in August as this was the closest hotel to Thorpe Park, where we spent an enjoyable day riding the thrilling rollercoasters. We had a double room overlooking the high street and we were pleased with the comfortable, clean and spacious room. The bathroom/shower was excellent and brightly lit, however, the air-conditioning in the bedroom was not working well at all. There are problems with the car-park as it is not very big and was full on arrival, so we had to... more
Itsy, Ugly, Awful and too Expensive too boot!
Looks beautiful from the Website and the view of the Thames from the room was quite nice, but it stops there. Very small room, poor quality bed, clean sheets/dirty blankets, front desk staff either poorly trained or unprofessional. Cost was as high as Central London for 1/4 the services and appearance and mediocre food. Nope, won't go back...
I'd rather stay at the Travelodge
I stayed there for a week, Will the room was nice (it better be because of the price) but the service was bad, people were not friendly, they hardly want to do anything.I would rather go to the Travelodge in the same area
