Perfect relaxing break (but be aware of chance of illness)
from HotelGuestX
Just returned from two weeks at the Ottoman Residence and agree with most comments on the site. The hotel has a unique boutique style and is set in a peaceful location on the river bank. The staff are very friendly and provide an excellent service. The food is OK in the hotel but would recommend B&B basis and to eat in one of the good restaurants in the town or one of the fish restaurants near the hotel in the evening. Definately recommend the Golden Roof restaruant in the town. We booked with Anatolian Skies and the service they provided was very slick and felt warmly welcomed and looked after. The trip to Dalyan is good value and the mud baths are fun albeit a bit commercialized. However, there is a real chance that you will be ill during your stay at this hotel. It is no exaggeration to say that 50% of the people there during our stay fell ill. This may or may not be due to the hotel but there is definately a problem with a virus/food poisoning as it affects more than just a few people regardless of where they ate. The main criticism is that the hotel manager and travel agent rep know there is a problem but dismiss it as sunstroke or due to the high acidity cooking oil in Turkey and as such the issue is apparently never investigated. We accept people get ill on holidays but an exceptionally high number of people where ill which we consider above average and unusual.
amazing hotel, staff, setting, atmoshphere, perfect!

i adored the hotel, it was beautiful and so quiet (no children under twelve definately helped that) the garden is beautiful and the pool area is fabulous. What made the holiday for me was definately the staff, they were all extremely friendly and helpful, and going to the bar in the evenings was definately a highlight!
Loved the Ottoman Residence

I recently returned from the Ottoman Residence and had such a great time that myself and four friends are returning in October. I have read some negative comments about the food at the hotel and people becoming ill, and I feel I have to comment. Myself and 4 friends ate breakfast and lunch every day we were in the hotel, and dinner 9 nights out of the 14. We all were fine the whole time. There were a few residents complained of illness, and on chatting too them they had eaten in other establishments and had symptoms that were nothing to do with food, i.e. urine infections, heatstroke etc. The hotel gave excellent service, way beyond their duty, the rooms were clean, the staff were excellent, as was the rep, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday, in a smaller location away from the crowds of tourists. It is exactly how it looks on the website.
Great stay at Ottoman
from swifty69
Should have posted this earlier. Spent two wonderful weeks at the ottoman in July. Hotel beautiful and much thought given to the comfort of the guests. The staff made sure that you could want for nothing. Especially enjoyed the no chldren under 12 policy!. It is fair to say that the positive comments written in the guest book during our stay were well deserved. Beautifully crafted Hotel in beautiful surroundings. The walk to the centre of an evening was just long enough to decide which of the many locations to try to eat, and in the heat just short enough to walk back. The Manager was extreemly helpful and informative, and you were made to feel that your enjoyment was of their highest prioity. the gardens in the ottoman are just a short walk from the breakfast area, and so encouraging for a lazy stay, with an ample amount of bean bags and enough shade to chase during the very hot periods, although we would recommended to get out and about and to explore the area, as there is soo much to explore and wonderful scenery to enjoy. The town Beach is a short stroll away if you can tear yourself away from the breeze found around the pool area. If you want the high life then venture into Marmaris and you will soon realise just how wonderful the ottoman is. We had a duplex room and the ability to have two bathrooms with three people sharing was an unexpected bonus. the balcony accomodates three and is peaceful to sit on to watch the sun setting. Watch out when you make tea or go to the fridge as the location under the stairs can cause a few bumps. The town is split ontwo levels with an abundance of restaurants to choose from, all serving great food at a great price. The sister restaurant at the end of the beach is recommended but only if you have not eaten for a week as the buffet offers so much choice it is hard to walk back! Walking the other way from the Hotel offers the chance to sample some of the best fish in restaurants situated along he riverbank, although slightly more expensive well worth it. Booked this holiday with Anatolian sky and have to say that the service which was provided was excellent. Would certanly consider returning.
When it was good it was good, when it was bad...

The Ottman Residence is a beautiful hotel and is in a gorgeous area. The scenery was breath taking and the resort was quiet and peaceful. However, a few days in I descovered that many of the hotel's guests were falling ill with a mysterious stomach bug. It wasn't long before before my girlfriend and I fell ill. The hotel failed to address this issue and denied that there may be any problem with the hotel. On the coach on the way back to the airport I discovered that of the 12 of us on the boach, 11 fell ill during their holiday. Still awaiting some kind of explanation...
Peaceful Getaway.

We loved our stay at the Ottoman . The hotel is very clean and well run, with staff that are helpful and good fun , but also respectful. The hotel itself is beautifull - very well designed. The garden area is a dream , with a hammock and huge bean bags that are Sooooo comfortable ,with lots of trees for shade. Akyaka itself is quiet , but with enough places to eat and drink ( The Yagmur on the beach front was great - the boys will get you anything you want -- Watch out for the large drinks! ). My only complaint would be that the balcony in the standard rooms are too small to sit out on. We were so relaxed after a week chilling out here that we really didnt want to come home --- We will be back !!!
A Turkish paradise.

It would be hard to find a better hotel for a more relaxing restful holiday. Opened about a year ago in an idyllic position along the Azmac river and about a ten minutes walk to the sea, this is a unique hotel staffed by some of the friendliest, most cheerful and above all efficient staff we have come across. The hotel is beautifully designed around a large atrium and furnished with a central fountain surrounded by the restaurant, bar and lounge with two balconies above with more seating areas and the bedrooms. The garden and pool area are supplied with numerous sun beds with mattresses, deck chairs, wicker settees, large and small cushions, picnic tables etc so that there was never a problem finding a private space in the sun or shade. Little streams run down through the garden over small waterfalls to the crystal clear river. The pool is immaculate but while we were there the water was rather too cold for us - and most of the other guests judging by the lack of swimmers! We booked a duplex room where the beds are on a landing looking down onto the sitting area below. All the fittings, lights etc were beautifully designed and there is more than enough wardrobe, shelf and drawer storage both up and downstairs. We had a balcony with table and stools overlooking orange groves and the mountains. The room was well furnished with the an arm chair, settee, TV [including BBC World, CNN etc], etc. The shower room was exceptionally large [with a very powerful shower] and our toilet and large wash basin separate in an incredibly small room! We never went without hot water and the rooms [as well as the entire hotel] were kept spotlessly clean. We have mixed feelings about the duplex idea as although the room and balcony were larger than the non duplex rooms, the trek down the stairs in the dark during the night to the toilet was somewhat hazardous! We did find the beds quite a lot firmer than we are used to. A small room with free internet access and a library of mostly paperbacks was available if you needed extra reading matter. When there was a problem with the computer the manager’s was made available - our only other problem was a small leak around our WC which was fixed shortly after we reported it. The manager was always around if needed and the head waiter seemed to have the capacity to be everywhere at the same time! Food is excellent - an a la carte menu is available but we, like most people, always eat from the unlimited buffet dinner menu [£9.00 or £6.00 if pre booked]. This included home made soup, usually five or six different salads, ten or more Turkish mezze choices, two hot dishes [Sea Bass, Veal, Chicken, Mixed Grill etc] with rice or vegetables and a sweet or fruit. Over two weeks only on a few occasions was a dish repeated - although we tried nearby restaurants we felt the hotel food was better value. Snacks were available at lunch time and breakfast was buffet style with cereals, cold meats, cheese, boiled eggs, rolls, etc. Akayaka is a very small village and in May was very, very quiet. Most of the restaurants were only just preparing to open and it was only on Sunday when Turkish families arrived for a day on the beach that there was any activity! There is a lot of building taking place - villas [no high rise] but it was not a problem. The walk into Akayaka along the river was at present partly through a building site which is nearing completion. We hired a car for a week and found driving very easy with very little traffic although potholes on the secondary roads could be a night mare - petrol is very expensive though! Mugla, Marmaris, Turunc are all within easy driving distance. Weather in May was quite chilly in the evening so we were grateful for the extra jacket and cardigans that we had packed. If you want water sports, discos, night life, Macdonalds, and tea like mum makes then forget it - this is not for you. This is a place to come to relax and unwind Turkish style and for us it couldn’t have been better. Thoroughly recommended.
A little bit of heaven.

Three of us (my wife and 87 year old mother) visited the Ottoman Residence 1.5.06 for a week, through Anatolian Sky Holidays, Birmingham. We had a special deal that we could not refuse.(£269 a week). No kids under 12!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was heaven, one of the best quiet , chill out breaks we have ever had.The Ottoman is only 12 months old, designed with 3 floors around a central atrium in Turkish style.Every member of staff is there to look after you with a smile. It is a site based upon a river but a short stroll takes you into Akyaka the local village. Food excellent.Location breath taking. We would return tomorrow as one week was too short. As it was May the evenings were cool so take a warm jacket. If you want to relax and do nothing other than the odd stroll to the sea and eat at some gorgeous riverside restaurants then this is for you.Akyaka is the place that Turks holiday in and they don`t want it ruined. Marmaris or Blackpool this ain`t.This is quality. As you sit out in the grounds or lounge on huge pillows you can watch the world go by on the river, the only sounds coming from chugging engines now and again, the wind in the reeds birds and the odd noisy little frog. You can watch the antics of river turtles, tortoises, ducks, geese, frogs, eels, water snakes, fish eagles etc,etc Yes I think that you could say we enjoyed it and hope to return. Chris Adams.

just returned from the Ottoman Residence in Akyaka. A beautiful hotel in superb surroundings. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms were very comfortable and very clean. The surrounding area is one of outstanding natural beauty. If you want a truly relaxing holiday where you can eat good food, read lots, and enjoy good company if you wish, this is the place. Definately not suitable for under 12s or if you are a party animal.
Peaceful haven

We have just returned from our wonderful 2 week holiday at the unique boutique hotel based on the architecture of 'Ottoman empire'. The hotel is small, set in a typical turkish village, but has magnificent views of the mountains and the conservation area of Akyaka. The beauty of this hotel is that there is no hassle, the pace is excellent if you want to slow down and recharge the batteries. Over 50% of the people staying were teachers and other professional people, it shows that this is the correct place for doing just that. Although it is not recommened for children under 12, there were teenagers that came with families who were quiet and respectful of the environment and the hotel. If they like sport etc; this is not the place for them. Take along with you plenty of books, or exchange them in the library, there is free internet provision to keep up to date or contact with loved ones or the football scores!!! The staff are more than happy to help and oblige and the reception is open 24 hours, so any problems are dealt with quickly and efficently. The trips arranged by the company Anatolian, were good value for money and highly recommended. Even from collection at the airport everything was efficient and we were even given water for our hour transfer journey. We shall definitely return, as I know shall others who were on this holiday.
