Fantastic holiday destination for those who like it rustic and uneventful. Very basic facilities _i.e. no electricity, lots of insects and other animals in the hut_ but that is what you get when you want to be closer to nature.
The people who run the “hotel” - a collection of beach huts perched just above the beach- are welcoming and friendly. The restaurant serves good breakfast, lunch and dinner, if a little expensive for what is quite basic fare.
The huts themselves come in different sizes and locations. There’s a choice of sea view, partial sea view and jungle. Jungle will mean that there’s very little breeze and the heat might be stifling. Sea view and partial sea view mean that you sleep at night with the sound of the Caribbean Sea all around you. Some cabanas do not have their own bathroom and have no concrete floor. But the others, apart from the lack of electricity and sporadic water, are very cosy.
In the area, there’s a choice of activities: snorkelling and diving in the 2nd biggest reef in the world, visiting underground rivers, Mayan ruins, jungle treks, etc
Along the beach, there are many hotels with their own bars and varied nightlife. And the local town, 4km away, has souvenir shops, post office, supermarket, etc
This is basically a destination for those who don’t expect all of life’s mod cons and who are happy to sit on a beach all day, starring out at the sea.
