A good resort style hotel
from CER
We booked this hotel through Malta Direct.com and that was about the last thing that they got right. But this is about the hotel. I will start with my negative comments. We were clearly listed on their register as being a party of 3 but the room they gave us, at 2300, only had two beds. So we had to request another one and wait while they got it set up. They hurried, but it should have been ready in advance. The shower was not very clean and for the first two days the maid service was beyond poor. All she did was make the beds and never touched the bathroom or anything else. I was just about to complain to the hotel when a different maid came through on day three and did a pretty good job. The door to the hall is not soundproof. We heard running kids and screaming babies all the time. The outer door is sound proofed though, which was good since our room was right outside one of the pools. Part of the reason we stayed here was because there is a dive shop right next door. My first morning I asked the staff when they opened so I could arrange a dive. They told me the Starfish shop opened at 0900 and I was there by 0905, not having many days on the island. Well, the Starfish specializes in cattle drives of divers who stay at the nearby hotels. They were already gone by 0905 and did not come back that day. The next day they were booked with an entire boatload of people and didn't have the staff to run a dive for an individual. The hotel staff is quick to point out all the details of diving at the place "right next door" but they have no idea of how the shop runs or their hours. I had to book a dive through another place. The good things. The breakfasts were really, really, good. We did not eat dinner here. There are several other places to eat within a 15 minute walk. Most are expensive and the food is only so-so at best. Our daughter had her best (and cheapest) meal at the McDonalds. Pretty sad. There is a bus stop right outside the front door. A bus ticket to the capital runs about .60 Lira, compared to a 7 Lira taxi ride. I had tons and tons of problems with Malta Direct and the staff at the desk were very patient and helpful as I made call after call after they didn't show up for scheduled tours or other things. The room was big. Even with the extra bed we could walk around. It had a standard European plug so we didn't need adaptors for our chargers. I was very nervous about booking a hotel through an agent after reading many of the reviews of Malta's hotels, but this one was pretty nice. I would not willingly go back to Malta, but that is not the fault of the hotel and I would recommend it to anyone.
An excellent place for holidays
from Angela11
Just to say that it was the first time I visited Malta in July 2007 during the Study Days organised by the European Parliament. I was more than happy to stay at the Marina hotel. The staff is very good, very polite and you feel almost at home. I look forward to another visit to Malta the soonest possible in order to walk around Valletta and enjoy the friendly attitide of the Maltese people. Angela Kaladjis

We stayed here during the first week of July. We were attending a family wedding. The weddign guests stayed in a number of hotels around the area. There didn't seem to eb a perfect hotel in the area as everyone was pointing out shortcomings in each one. The hotel is ok but souless. the main bar was never open, there are other coffee shops within the hotel complex that are open late. The positon of the hotel is great, right on the bay and you can get yourself a sunbed by the water's edge. Families with kids stay around the pools. The hotel is away form any noisy bars etc. but taxis are easy to get and the local bus also passes by the front door In its favour there a plenty of sun beds. We went accross to the Dragonara and the difference between the two hotels is huge, the rooms the buzz everything is so much better in the Westin. Its more exensive but worth it. However form talking to people staying in the dragonara there are not enough sunbeds around the pool. The pool area is public at the corinthia. There are a few english language schools around the bay and when the school's finish for the day at around 2pm the student arrive to the hotel. While they are not noisey or disruptive it just means that the place fills up a lot. There is a non public area around one of the pools but if like us you prefer the sea then this is of little consequence. The service was slow, but I think this is common to all of malta. I hate to admitt it but I found it very frustrating. I mentioned it to some other people who all agreed. Service seems to be a big problem. The people themselves are lovely. It is almost like they have ADT when they are serving you becasue on a number of occasions during the week the person serving me started doing another job or serving another customer while still in the process of completing my order but not in a efficient way. The rooms were basic and in particular the guy checking the mini bar will not take no for answer when he wants to enter the room. A do not disturb sign obviously doesn't apply to him. On the morning we were leaving he arrived at 9:15, I had just got out of the shower and my wife was getting out of bed and he refused to come back in 5 minutes despite our complaints. To be honest it made us feel like we were not trusted or something. We were given a twin room and when I asked if it would be possible to get a double room I was told that they would push the beds together for us and give us a double sheet and blanket. This is not four star service.
Beautiful location

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at the Corinthia Marina. The room was spacious, bright and clean with amazing views over the sea and pool area.We were on the fifth floor. The door to the balcony provides brilliant sound proofing from any noise outside even when there was a wedding we didn't hear anything once the doors were closed. For anyone looking for a quiet holiday this hotel is perfect. It is located right on the sea front yet away from the main restaurant bar area of Paceville/St. Julians. A short walk will get you into the centre of things. Facilities available are second to none : numerous pools, cafes, restaurants, water sports etc. Don't worry about security as one of the pool decks with two pools is locked and you need a code to get in and is only available to hotel guests- this area was much quieter than the other pools. As a previous reviewer has said it is the facilities that make this hotel, but i was really impressed with the rooms aswell. Had a great time.
Better service from another Corinthia Hotel
from MaltaLoverManchester
We have stayed in the Corinthia Jerma Hotel Marsascala many times before it closed earlier this year. We needed a short break before a family wedding and knowing the island well we chose Malta. Knowing the Corinthia Group I opted for the Marina as the location with good sea views were an attraction. Before anyone says anything the price for the two of us was not that cheap. On arrival we were dealt with very quickly but without much information on the Hotel and what was available to us. No welcome drink but the bags were whisked off. Had to have explained that our room 7242 was in building 7 (which the one we were in allegedly) and that we were on the 2nd floor which meant we had to go down in the lift one floor as Reception was on the 3rd floor - this was getting complex. Overall the room was fine - I had asked for a kettle which the Concierge duly brought. It appeared from watching that the Hotel were preparing for the start of the season because drilling was going on whilst we sat by the pool and during the afternoon major drilling was going on in the Hotel - no notice was given to expect works contiuning through the day. We do feel that for a '4' star rating more respect to the paying guests should have been in the forefront of the Hotel Managements mind. Certain staff were very amiable especially the old staff from the Jerma Palace. We were given a comments form from the Hotel and one of the questions was ' Did the Management call you by your surname ?' - I don't think they would know whether we were guests or just conference delegates. We were not impressed overall with the Hotel but it will not stop us returning to the Island.
Would not recommend
from sunseasandManchester
NOT A 5* HOTEL AT ALL - Would not recommend. We encountered many problems during our 10 days at this hotel. 1) allocated room under busy main restaurant, noise from scraping chairs and furniture above was awful all evening and all morning from 6.30am. All floors are tiled so corridors and cleaners also very loud. Maids seem to start cleaning rooms as soon as people leave in early hours of morning. 2) pool and bay area is not secure. It is open to none residents so very busy and loud at weekend with people pretty much free to come and go by sneaking in along sea front. If you have small children, i would be very concerned especially after terrible situation with little Maddy. Random man came in and took topless photos of us when sunbathing then ran out of complex when i got up furious. He laughed giving us the two finger gesture? Lido pool team and reception just apologised! 3) hotel furnishings and decor basic - certainly not worthy of 5* 4) air conditioning useless - could not sleep in as sun came up through windows (curtains don't exactly block light or heat) making room unbearable. 5) food average, felt sorry for people half board or all inclusive Certainly would not return. Nearby Hilton or Le Meridien looked a better options and after speaking to fellow holiday makers was definitely more secure.
Loved the food, the service and the view!!

Myself and my wife and our new at the time 2 month old baby had a lovely time at the Marina. With three separate restaurants and two cafe/wine bars it had everything you needed. We were lucky with our room, just over the Da Marina restaurant - meant we could sit on our balcony and still soak up the atmosphere and enjoyed a lovely sea view. This was an ideal location for us, with a new baby we wanted pure relaxation with no unsavoury types!! A choice of pools and easy access to the sea , (though no beach access at hotel, public one just down the road). As someone who loves fine dining this had all too offer. Food was delicious and the wine was flowing. Nothing bad to say except that the 5 star is for facilites and it had them. However, this is not a posh exclusive hotel but more a very good solid hotel with lots of choice of restaurants. and a lovely pool. In St.George's bay area it is crucial your hotel is good because you are not near any other choice restaurants. Location wise it is out on a headland near other hotels. But with a bus at the top of the road everywhere is accessible. Ideal for a couple of a new baby or anyone who goes on holidays to relax!! Be sure to go to Valletta - beautiful city!
lovely staff and service
from georginaUk
We arrived at this hotel in the early hours of the morning and had to change rooms immediately because one of the mattresses was very damp, but the staff were quick to change us to another room with no fuss. The room we eventually stayed in was clean and comfortable and had sea views, although we would have benefited from coffee making facilities in the room. The hotel in general is pleasant but the soft furnishings on sofas etc could do with an update as they are threadbare in places and this is a shame because it does give the hotel a slightly run down feel, I did see the mattress and it had seen much better days, these are issues this hotel needs to address because it gives the entirely the wrong impression because I have never seen staff cleaning public areas of any hotel as much as this. What makes this hotel is the staff who are top class and provide a wonderful service. In the end I chose to eat in the wine bar even though we had a huge choice of restaurants in St Juliens, the food was superb in the hotel and we ate 4 dinners out of 7 in the wine bar, I had probably the best Caesar salad I have ever eaten anywhere and all the food was of the same high standard, this hotel employs top class chefs. I have visited Malta many times and always find the locals a delight, people to mention this time are Ruth in the Sterling Shop at the hotel and Joseph one of the waiting staff both were absolutely wonderful ambassadors for the hotel and the Maltese people as a whole. The only problem we encountered in Malta was with Avis car hire, I would not recommend them because we were overcharged and received a dreadfully sub standard service from them in Malta.
Very disappointing
from summerjazz
We returned yesterday from an extremely disappointing week at this hotel, which does not deserve a 5 star rating. It doesn't even compare to other 5 star hotels we have stayed at on other holidays. In my opinion this hotel is a 3 star, possibly a lower range 4 star. If you are expecting 5 star quality and standards then you will be badly let down. Unfriendly, patronising and unattentive staff both on reception and in the restaurants (but not in Cafe 24 as the staff there were excellent), we had paid extra for a junior suite but the mattresses were worn out and despite us reporting this, were not changed - so we ended up changing to another suite; no air conditioning, shabby internal decor and flooring, exposed live wires on one of the bedside lamps, cheap furnishings in the rooms, Butlins-esque breakfast room with either undercooked or overcooked food, empty bottles not taken out of rooms by housekeeping, bar never open so unable to enjoy an evening cocktail....the list goes on. We spoke to the duty manager upon checking out with our list of complaints, had some money knocked off our final bill and are waiting to hear if they will offer us any further money back. Twice during our week away we went to the neighbouring Corinthia St George hotel and ate at Fra Martino - a top class buffet restaurant, typical of that one would expect at a 5 star establishment. But beware - clients from the Corinthia Marina are only allowed to dine there once a week! (there is a complicated voucher scheme in operation). If only we had checked this website before booking this hotel. Although having stayed on a previous holiday in the lovely Corinthia Palace hotel, we were expecting the same high standards but were left cold by our experience at the Marina. I am so pleased to be home!
Lovely location, slightly disappointing hotel
from emjharts
My Husband and I stayed at this hotel in November. The weather was beautiful as is the island of Malta, however, we were slightly disappointed with the hotel. We arrived in the middle of the night and even though I had requested a double bedded room on a top floor a few times they put us in a twin room, as the hotel was fairly empty i would have thought that putting us in the room type i requested would have been easy, non the less they put us in a lovely room the following day with a much better view and balcony and double bed. The only problem with the rooms (as mentioned by other people) is that as all the floors are tiled you can hear loud vibrations of furniture being dragged all night and early morning in other rooms and the housekeeping service were very loud at 7am shouting and playing loud music whilst cleaning rooms which echoed down the tiled corridor so not much rest was had as i am a light sleeper. The sheets and towels also had holes in them, not what yu would expect from a 5 star hotel at all and on our last day we ordered breakfast in bed but the menu was taken from our door but the breakfast never arrived and when we called it still took 40 mins and by that time we were ready to go. The buffet breakfast had everything that you would want though, but we found the staff quite unfriendly. We were also disappointed that the main restaurant and bar were closed all week apart from one night. We were never told this and were disappointed that we couldnt dine a night or two there or drink cocktails in the lounge bar overlooking the sea, instead we had to drink in the cafe bar or at the San Gorg next door, not overlooking the sea and eat in the smaller cafes in the hotel or go into town. The leisure facilities in the sister hotel were really good, and the restaurant there good too, especially the fish night so if you are going to stay in that area then choose the San Gorg - they have carpetted floors too!

The San Gorg is a really excellent hotel in every respect. Beautiful decor, clean, spacious, super staff in every area. Excellent food and so much of it. We booked room and breakfast and did look around for a restaurant in the town for dinner. There was no point. We ended... more
