Thats ok for students...
from OttoYoungal
The hotel for students are really nice. I was stayed in this hotel 16th of October 2006 between 02th of April 2007, that means 6 months in a hotel room. Looked like my second home in Malta also they gave me a good price and service... If I have a chance to visit Malta, I'll definitely select this hotel again...
the bay st hotel st julians welcome to hell
from wozer
THE BAY ST HOTEL WELCOME TO HELL!!! well where do we start with the lovely bay st hotel! ACCOMODATION We arrive at the Bay St, check in then go to our rooms, 2 rooms 1 for my partner & I & 1 for my partners daughter (rooms 659 & 662), below is a brief outline of the state of the apartments • Upon entering both apartments there is a very strong musty smell coming from both, we therefore think oh well its because it’s the start of the season & the apartments have not been used for a while so we open patio doors in both rooms. • During the night the smell becomes so strong it wakes us up!, the smell is now one of raw sewage, we report it to reception & when we arrive back from our day trip all they have done is spray air freshener in the room! The maid informs us that this sewage smell has been around for over a month and the hotel still cannot find a way to fix the problem. I was disgusted to find that immediately after we were moved from rooms 659 and 662, the hotel put another family with young children into the same rooms – they also had to be moved. • In both rooms the patio doors locks are broken which is a worry as we are on the 6th floor & my daughter sleepwalks!, also in her room the door frame is coming away, reception tell us that there are no more rooms as Malta are playing Greece in a Euro 2008 qualifier & the Greeks have all the other rooms, I demand that I either be given 2 more rooms or be moved to another hotel , the manager just hides in her back office! While 5 ( yes 5) receptionists are tapping away at computers trying to find rooms/hotels, all of a sudden as if by magic 2 new rooms appear!!, we go up & check them & they are fine – until we realise we are closer to the noisy nightclubs. • Its 4 days on & the new rooms are now not fine!, my stepdaughter has had to move again as her door frame is now so loose that the door refuses to shut correctly! The maintenance man could not fix the door immediately as he is busy with other jobs before getting married the following week! • One day after my stepdaughters move & there is now no hot water in both rooms & neither toilet now works, was reported this morning its still no sign of maintenance dept after 2 days • There is a tv in the room – but you have to pay a 10 lira deposit for the remote control, for the joy of being able to watch a total of three free channels, with the rest at a high pay per view cost. • No oven in the rooms makes for very limited self-catering facilities. THE NOISE • we had realised that we were in an area populated by bars & restaurants etc but nothing on gods earth prepared us for the surge of noise coming from the bars, nightclubs etc, its my 10th night at the bay st & i have not had one decent nights sleep in that time, despite using earplugs. • the bars go on all night & some don’t seem to close til 5.30am! • there are only 2 hours of peace from 5.30am to 7.30am, and then the noise from deliveries and scraping of chairs/tables in the restaurants below begins. • the noise from people in the shopping complex below you have to hear to believe, constant screaming, shouting etc well into 4-5am & not from the tourists but from the locals. a call to reception to complain about the noise at 5.25am left me bewildered when they told me nothing could be done to move on the people who caused the noise. • most hotels have piped music in the lounge but not in the corridors outside the rooms at full blast first thing in the morning like bay st does! • the hotel is situated inside a shopping complex so there is constant noise, kids shouting, loud music etc • in all if you want a holiday where you can get to sleep by 1-2am then avoid the bay st THE POOL DECK Well what can you say about the tired scruffy looking pool deck • Swimming pool is not heated & is the coldest pool I have ever swam in its freezing cold honestly it takes your breath away • Both pools are old & in a bad state of repair - the main pool has all the paint from the bottom & the sides of the pool peeling & coming away, the kids pool is filthy with fungi/mildew & mold growing around the edges • There is supposed to be a whirlpool & sauna but you have to ask reception for the key! & to be honest judging by the state of the pool then its one to miss! • Sun loungers are old battered & torn THE STAFF • Reception staff all in all were pretty useless & not much good at dealing with complaints but then again you have to feel sorry for them as they are being lead by very poor management • Housekeeping were fine & once again they were in the fireing line for complaints which were not their fault but down to poor management • Management, never got to speak to a manager they just hid in their offices with their tin hats on, im a night manager of a hotel in England & I’m shocked by their unprofessional manner • Maintenance, what maintenance!? , the place is falling to bits & the maintenance chap must have the cleanest overalls in Malta! THE BAY ST HOTEL A SUMMARY Well what can you say about the bay st hotel in a brief summing up? Its scruffy, poorly managed, a definite health & safety risk, very very noisy, poorly trained & led staff, in a very poor location, not child friendly with lap dancing & pole dancing bars all over the place, avoid the bay st & save your money & your sanity! I wish we had THE GOOD PART THE FLIGHT HOME!
cheap, central, friendly, top class
from Eirefeen
This hotel is very clean and well worth the money for its location. However due to its proxmity to Paceville it can be very noisy (especially on Saturday nights) however this didn't cause me any problems since I didnt expect peace and quiet! Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Overall I would recommend the hotel for people who wish to stay centrally to paceville's nighlife and don't mind the noise during the night
A good value for money hotel
from TAFFYDOG
The hotel is in a very lively area, surrounded by numerous shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very efficient and friendly. The rooms are bright and modern, and cleaned every day.The breakfast is not up to much, but the fillet steaks in the Hard Rock Cafe are highly recommended. This hotel is good value for money and i would not hesitate in staying here again.
Pack earmuffs and a torch!

I wasn't sure what to expect when offered a 4* hotel in a lively part of Paceville, but for the measely sum of around £5.66 per room per night. In short, the hotel is perfectly fine but, on a Saturday (and even in off-peak November), was EXTREMELY NOISY in certain rooms, far noisier than other reviews led me to believe. We arrived at 7pm amidst noise from every angle from the various bars and clubs and asked at reception for a quiet room! We were told the rooms were pre-allocated, but 'we should be alright.' Evidently, we weren't. Don't get me wrong, I KNEW this was a lively area and I also knew we were arriving on a Saturday night, but I didn't expect to hear crystal clear lyrics from three separate clubs until 6:30am, when I finally got to sleep. Luckily, this only involved enduring around 4 hours of cheesy Abba songs and the like (as we soon realised that staying in on a Saturday night was not an option and got in at around 2:30, which for me is rather late!). Now, please place this review in context. The rooms are nice, many with a kitchinette and fridge. The staff, if spoken to firmly, are co-operative (although luckily we didn't pay for any breakfast for them to spit in). Indeed, when I asked to change rooms after the first night, I was told to 'come back tomorrow to speak to the reservations manager.' My reply was 'I want to sleep TODAY.' After a 30 minute wait, I managed to downgrade my room to a slightly less noisy room on the other side of the hotel. The lifts/elevators for the side of the building we were staying (the lifts furthest from reception) weren't working though and climbing up and down 6 flights of stairs with poor lighting is not the easiest of endeavours (even if you are completely sober). Therefore either a torch is handy, or extreme caution should be used. However, I actually warmed to the hotel in the end! After all, the other 2 rooms my friends booked weren't as noisy and, in all fairness to the hotel, they can't control the fact that they're surrounded by ridiculously loud bars and clubs. And if I was going mid-week off-season, would definately pay them my peanuts once more and stay there (I'd just avoid peak season or a Saturday, where all the Maltese girls seem to descend on Paceville in short skirts and all the Maltese guys seem to descend on the girls). Alternatively, if I ever am able to afford a greater height of luxury, I walked past the Hilton down the road, which is set by a small marina (I believe it's called Porto Mas) and it looked rather nice!
totally loved the Baystreet

Been to Malta many many times before but this was the first time we have stayed in the St Julians area as we wanted somewhere a bit livelier with it being wintertime. We thought the hotel was great, though the set-up is quite peculier!! The hotel itself is based in a shopping mall. The reception is spotlessly clean and receptionists very welcoming and friendly. Our room was really nice, very clean. Fluffy white towels and thorough cleaning everyday, clean bedding every 2 days. The balconies are a little scary, but very modern with there being just a plate glass panel.Dont expect fantastic views from the balcony. We stayed on a b&b basis, which you have to go up to the 4th floor to the restaurant for. The area wasnt too noisy apart from the weekend as it is in a VERY vibrant area. You are surrounded by great restaurants and bars. Try "HUGOS" for sushi, "RED AROMA" for great steaks, then go dancing at "FUEGO'S" salsa bar.Must add that theres a lovely little beach which is cleaned daily. All in all a great hotel in our opinion.

The Bay Street Hotel, Malta is NOT a 4 star hotel. I will start with the bad points. We arrived to find to find the room completely flooded. The TV worked intermittently and the fridge wasn't working at all. The lift is horrendously slow, but when it broke down, we were directed to the escalator, which wasn't working either. But my biggest complaint is that the website says it is a 'lively' location, but it doesn't say that local bars are licenced until 4am. Yes, 4am. The volume of the music is unbelievable. Do not go there if you are over say, 25 yrs old or you like to have a nights sleep. Also not mentioned, the area is EXTREMELY steep around the hotel. The website really should make this clear. The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel was very clean.
Definitely not a 4 star

Not a great hotel. The rooms were tiny and ours overlooked a lovely concrete roof. It reminded me of an old fashioned Youth hostel. The corridors were very narrow and claustrophobic with no windows at either end. There were two small lifts for the hotel and one was not working properly. Because this complex has many shops (whose customers also used the lifts) you could be stuck going up / down for ages. The swimming pool on the top of the building was small and only 21 quests were allowed in the pool at one time due to the size. (Imagine this at the height of summer with 200 quests wanting to take a dip.) The rooms were cleaned daily and the breakfast was good. The reception area was clean and the staff friendly. Good location if you want a very lively holiday. Not so great if you want a relaxing holiday
Great if all you want to do is party..

We stayed at Baystreet Hotel during our holiday in Malta in August. Based on the reviews here on tripadvisor we were not expecting to get much sleep as it is situated in the middle of Paceville. Baystreet Hotel is located inside the Baystreet Complex, an open-air-mall with lots of international and local shops (Guess, Marks & Spencer, FCUK, NafNaf, Mexx), restaurants (McDonald's, Hard Rock Cafe) and a game arcade. We had to walk through the mall to get to the reception. The day we arrived they had a local talent show going on at the first floor (there was always loud entertainment going on in the evenings).. we had some trouble getting through the crowds of young teenagers and families with our suitcases and it was a bit stressful. We got confirmed that this hotel was not a quiet one.. We had an apartement and had to cross the mall to get to the elevator taking us to the apartement floors. No big deal, except from that the elevators did not work properly. There were two, but one of them only worked if you were at the 7th floor (the pool area) and sometimes on level 0 - if it had a good day. The second one was reaaally slow, and spent ages going up and down between different floors before arriving at your level. Sometimes we would get stuck between different floors for 10 minutes before we got to our floor. It was really pissing us off and it was the most annoying thing during our holiday. At least it should be for hotel guests only, so many "visitors" used the elevator to get from level 0 to level 1, when they could easily take the escalator instead. I'm not kidding when I say that the elevator in the empire state is faster! Our room was large and spacey, and it was better than any hotel I've had in Southern Europe (when travelling charter). The cleaning was okay, but you could see that it was not done properly everywhere. They only changed sheets twice during our week, but towels were changed every day. Our room was so large it took me "ages" to get to the bathroom. Quite modern and nice. There seemed to be some problems with mould in the bathroom and on the walls. A bit disgusting. We had a refrigerator, hair dryer, air condition.. that's nice. The shower was in good condition, plus for shower curtains as well! It was not nearly as noisy as expected. The rooms are very well isolated so that was not a problem. The pool was on the 7th floor.. the roof. It had a great view over St.George's Bay. There was a small pool bar serving toast and fruit salad, and some drinks, and they played music, varying from Italian ballads to club anthems. It was quite loud, so if you want peace and quiet while sunbathing place yourself far away from the speakers. The pool was great, a bit busy at times, we had to be there before 11 AM to get a sunbed. Sunbeds are free, but they should be, because they're really worn out ! Some more complaints.. If you wanted to watch television. international channels. .you'd have to pay 3 LM a day!! That's almost $10! Way too much. In Greece we got it for free.. The balcony was horrible. It was a hole in the wall. It felt like a dark cave, no light, and we were looking straight into the neighbor building. I'd rather have no balcony! It was awful. If I should return to Malta I want to stay at the Intercontinental, Hotel Hilton or some other luxury hotel. Baystreet is an excellent choice if you're young and you came to party! Because it's near the bar and clubs, and shops and Mc Donald's. But I doubt that I'll be staying here again..
Good for Nightlife
from workingovertime
The hotel was clean and the staff were helpfull, I asked for a room with a balcony and got one the day after I arrived. The hotel is situated slap bang in the middle of the main drag of nightlife. So if your on the front of the hotel, sleep on the weekend isnt a option. Its built into a mini mall which has a Mac's, Amusement Arcade and a Marks and Spencers food shop in, good if your prone to home sickness. I'd stay there again.
Very dissapointing - husband took me away for my birthday. We were supposed to have a double bed and had twins pushed together (with seperate bedding - hardly romantic). The window did not close properly and the noise was horrendous in the evening. Although the room was... more
