First, the good things: the room was very spacious and we had free use of the cooking facilities and fridge. The beds were comfy and the maid service was excellent. We didn't mind paying a deposit for the TV remote, as this is usual practice. Although there wasn't any variety for breakfast, the food was very nice and the sausages were edible, not like in Spain!! The hotel staff were okay, although we didn't really see much of them. However..... the evening meals were poor (not much choice and very bland) - we used the excellent restaurants nearby instead (especially Red Aroma - yum!!). The room sometimes had a smokey smell, but this wasn't surprising as many Maltese do smoke heavily and the hotel is above a shopping centre. The main drawback is the noise from the local bars / clubs which on Fri / Sat / Wed go on VERY late. It wasn't too wild in March, but we can imagine it would be HELL in the height of the season. If you are a young clubber, it's ideal, but for anyone over 25, I wouldn't recommend it in the height of the season. Despite this, we got a very cheap deal and the hotel was well worth what we paid. If we'd paid 4* prices, we would have been disappointed, but actually.. for the money and in March it was well worth it.

On arriving at Bay Street we noticed how very noisy it was but thought that in the room it would be ok, we went to reception where we found the receptionist to be rude and unhelpful, we were told where to go to get to the level on which our room was situated and off we went to find it.
The room was clean and tidy but that is about all I can say that is good about this hotel.
As the air conditioning was set to winter it only gave out hot air so we had no choice but to try and sleep with the door open not a good idea when the music doesnt stop until 3 am every single night, even later on a Saturday.
Some of my medication was thrown away but again reception was less than helpful in this matter.
When we checked out of the hotel we were told that we could put our luggage in a safe room, what ever you do dont do this as it is anything but safe.
This was our honeymoon and had it been our first trip to Malta it would have definately been our last.

The noisiest place I have ever stayed. It is like hearing all the local night clubs (and there are loads) all the time. DO NOT go here if you want to sleep between 10PM and 5AM.
We were treated to a rock band playing in the complex atrium at 915am on a Sunday morning and gangsta rap at 1AM. The quietest night we had was during a massive thunderstorm and that was because it kept people away from the clubs. We kept praying for thunderstorms every night so we could sleep.
The room we had was basic and cleaned every day but no remote control for the TV.
There are several restaurants in the complex all of which are equally rubbish and expensive. The McDonalds closes at 5AM at weekends then they drag the tables and chairs around until 6AM - more noise.
If you do end up here by some awful mischance then go out of the complex and turn left follow the road along to Andrew's bar at least you can get a beer and a meal in peace.
No amount of discount offers or even a free holiday at this "hotel" would tempt me here ever again.

Really poor experience! Most things were broken in the room which was supposed to be an executive suite (free upgrade due to the sewage smell in our original room).
Very un-interested behaviour when such things were reported, and the manager was never around!
The lift was annoying due to the fact that you have to put in a code every time you want to use it.
The gym was a utter joke.
My whole experience made me never want to go back to Malta....ever, because if that’s a first class experience then a five star wouldn't even be worth it either.

This hotel is a joke! 4 Star! Whatever! We booked out 3 rooms in the hotel and when we first got there in one room there was a broken bed, one was freezing cold and the last one was so smelly it was unbearable. After a lengthy discussion with the reception staff we were given another room (the reason I have given them more than a zero rating).
There were so many things broken in that room, but by that time we really didn't care. We had to pay to get a remote to change the TV channels otherwise we could only watch euro news and weather. And even then we only had about 5 channels, 2 in English! In the bathroom the shower did not fit on the wall as the bracket was... yes you guessed it BROKEN. On our last day a maid came into our room while we were changing to take out one of the beds! We had to politely tell her we had until 12 to check out!
Oh and don't let me forget the gym! They advertise a gym with jacuzzi and sauna. The gym had 2 broken bikes, 1 broken rower, and 3 free weights. I would hardly call this a gym. The jacuzzi looked like it was still in construction!! We were so disappointed. And to think they tried to take a deposit from us to use it! Use what???
The staff there didn't know anything!!! (staff training is extremely lacking) And I'm sure the manager spent the whole time trying to dodge us as she was never there. I couldn't wait to go home. I will never go back there ever again. Do not spoil your holiday by staying in this hotel.

Baystreet is a lovely complex with great places to eat, drink, shop and spend money! Myself and two friends stayed at Baystreet hotel for one week in July, we had an amazing time but there were some problems.
Firstly we had booked a self catering room but received a "room only" room. This was dealt with by a very helpful rep who then gave us the options of either keeping the room and changing to half board so we could use the All Seasons restaurant or complaining further which she explained would be a longer process with no definite successful outcome.
We chose to change to half board and once all necessary phone calls had been made we went up to the restaurant for breakfast.
Once we were there we were told we could only have croissants as the chef had stopped cooking, which was fair enough, so we took our seats.
The lady who ran the restaurant then told us we could not eat there because we were self catering, we tried to explain but she was adamant we could not eat there. She eventually made a phone call to reception, even though reception told us they had notified the restaurant!
Once the situation was understood we ate breakfast but I must say we received some cold glares!
Apart from this misunderstanding we had a fantastic time and I recommend Malta to anyone and everyone, just maybe be careful where you choose to stay!

This place is a joke. It’s very noisy, full of annoying kids that think they own Malta. I feel sorry for anyone who brings their children here.
Rooms are so basic - beds broke and door and its smelly. We paid enough for the holiday and when we got here we even had to pay to watch abit of TV, which only had one English speaking station (euro news). Some of the staff had no idea what’s going on. The noise is unreal in this place, music is so loud from night clubs, and it takes about ten minutes for the lift to get up and down and wont bring you to the floor you request. As for the pool anyone and everyone can use it.
I would rate it less than a hostel.

This hotel, for me, was one of the nicest that I have stayed in, anywhere!
It is situated with perfect distance from shops and restaurants, that were open till quite late! We didn’t have to walk far to get some form of entertainment as it wasn’t short of that!
There was something for everyone, a casino and even with the kids with us there was something to do, we visited the bowling alley several time!
Malta was a beautiful place, and the weather was unbeatable! I would have happily stayed there an extra week it was that nice!
The hotel staff went out of their way to make sure all of our needs were met and it was very clean!
I will definitely be visiting next year!

Nice clean large room slightly 'lumpy' beds. Helpful staff, nice position, internet cafe and easy to park the hire car.
Breakfast was full English and sufficient.
Having lived in Malta for three years and seen and heard about some of the cheaper hotels, I was pleasantly surprised and would liken the Bay Hotel to a Travel Inn in the UK.
We paid £15 per night for the room on BB terms on a cheap deal and enjoyed every moment of our stay.

Bay Street Hotel is situated on the upper floors of a shopping/entertainment mall which has a good choice of restaurants, a 24hr cafe-bar, the usual range of retail shops, a cinema and 10-pin bowling alley. It's about 5 years old and the rooms are clean, bright and comfortable. The kitchen area in our self-catering room was adequate and the room-service faultless (they even did the washing-up!).
The situation is excellent, about 50 meters from the small beach at St George's Bay and right opposite the stairs that lead up into Paceville (Malta's much smaller version of San Antonio) - Fuego club is literally across the road. A few minutes walk takes you into the centre of St Julian's with all its shops, pubs, restaurants and bus station.
The proximity of so many bars and clubs (open until around 4am) and the usual takeaway food outlets makes this an ideal hotel for night people, but would also suit families if you are not looking for a particularly quiet holiday. Each room has a balcony, but most of them face into the mall and the sounds do tend to echo from the cafes putting out their chairs in the morning, to the revelers at night.
This is my only reservation in recommending Bay Street, but we didn't find it a problem and overall the location and generally high standard of the hotel more than compensated - the rooftop pool (with a children's pool and terrace) is awesome, with fabulous views across the bay and you really do have everything on your doorstep, including waterfront cafes where you can enjoy a full English breakfast (maybe on your way home from a good night in the nearby casino).
Malta generally is good value for food and drink - beer UKP1.50 a pint, wine from UKP6.00, meals below UK prices. Buses are cheap and regular and nothing is far away on such a small island - Valletta is about a 15 mins trip. Car hire is also cheap with little chance of using much fuel, but parking can be a problem and navigation difficult with poor signage and some of the worst roads I've encountered in Europe for a long time. Most roads are uneven, many badly pot-holed - the driving is erratic and moped/motorcycle hire is definitely *not* recommended.
There are several fascinating places to visit - Medina, Gozo, Valletta, pre-historic remains, St Anton gardens, Blue Grotto and you are never far from the coast (although quite a lot of the swimming is from rocks). Of course, everyone speaks good English and we were made to feel welcome everywhere we went. Malta is good fun and St Julian's is an excellent holiday location - nothing like the pensioner's paradise we heard about years ago!

Very dissapointing - husband took me away for my birthday. We were supposed to have a double bed and had twins pushed together (with seperate bedding - hardly romantic). The window did not close properly and the noise was horrendous in the evening. Although the room was large there was no attention made to detail from the housekeeping staff (no do not disturd sign, empty tissue box, mould round bath). The hotel restauraunt is being revamped and the Crocked Pot is a shambles for breakfast - when there is any. No plates, no food and when the breakfast eventually turned up it was cold. The broken toaster was a joke! I would not reccommend this hotel to anyone - the one saving grace is the reception staff who are very helpful
