Four of us aged in our 50s and 60s had a very enjoyable week at this hotel in April. We thought the choice of food was amazing at each meal, and was well cooked and interesting. I do not like meat, but still found plenty of dishes that I enjoyed. I am really surprised that... more

Wife and I stayed in the Soreda last November, paid less for a weeks all inclusive than five days self catering in Butlins.Absolutely the best value hotel in Malta, booked again for 2011.We`ve been to Malta dozens of times and this is the best 3/4 star we have stayed at.

Nice stay at Soreda
Me and my husband have enjoyed a very nice stay (7 days) at the Soreda Hotel. Room was nice, comfortable, clean and we found all things we needed. Staff nice too, they helped us when we needed them. Food good too, and when I asked the chef for a particular thing he gave it to me. Breakfast and diner ok. I say a big ‘merci’ and ‘au revoir’ to Soreda staff because I will certainly stay there when I come back to lovely Malta sometime in the future.
Great vacation and looking forward to return
I would like to comment on the hotel and staff. From the first day I was made to feel at home. I will not name any particular staff member as they were in my opinion all first class. I was welcomed with courtesy and efficiency on arrival and from then on with smiles and politeness. I am intending to return to Soreda Hotel when I come back to Malta early next year. Once again thanks to Soreda staff for a great vacation and looking forward to come again.
Second time lucky? No ...
This is my second trip to Malta and chose to go again at Soreda Hotel in Qawra, to the north of the island. I am writing on the last day of the fantastic trip. I wanted the good stay I have a few months ago in winter and I must say I was surprised. The service was better on some counts. Maybe it was the good weather too but I enjoyed very mucch the stays at the nice pool and nice staff. Food was plenty at the buffet and altough every day it was the same choice the choice was so large that we could chose somethign different each day. It is very good value for money and I think I will come again to Soreda. Keep up the good work!
Did not like this hotel at all
The food was awful. All looked and tasted the same. The staff were very good but not enough of them. The bathrooms needed upgrading. Definately not a 4 star hotel.
Management response from A TripAdvisor Member 27 Jun 2006

The Soreda Hotel accommodates an average of 350 persons everyday throughout the whole year. If the number of negative reviews written here by guests on this website is divided by the number of guests staying at the Hotel everyday throughout a whole year, the proportion is not only negligible but completely and extremely insignificant. The Hotel like all other catering establishments is routinely inspected by the Local Tourism Authorities who are very strict and stringent in their inspections and to date we have always compelled with the desired standards. We respect opinions and deal accordingly with any justified criticism. We strive hard to achieve an excellent level of satisfaction which indeed shows why we have such a strong returnees business, some of which visit the Soreda Hotel two to three times a year.

Beware. Maltese star ratings are not the same as those in other countries
We have stayed at many 4* hotels in the UK and Europe and this hotel did not match up to any of them. We stayed at this hotel for a week, half board. On arrival at 6.15 pm, we had to remind the receptionist to welcome us- she was arguing with a colleague at the time. The hotel is situated away from the sea in a residential area of mostly apartment blocks. There are bars on either side and the hotel overloooks an undeveloped site inhabited by stray cats. Not exactly an ideal location. Our first room was at the back of the hotel and was very dark and dingy. The finish of the room was of a very low standard, particularly in the bathroom. A few tea bags and coffee sachets had been left for us on arrival, in a paper bag! When we told reception a few days later that the maid was not leaving further supplies, we were told we weren't entitled to any more unless we were fully inclusive. If we wanted more, we could buy them from reception. On the subject of tea and coffee, when we made our first cup, we found the water from the kettle was a nasty brown colour because a previous occupant had left a tea bag in the kettle and the domestic staff hadn't noticed. We asked for and were given another room. It was brighter and of a better finish but it was immediately under the evening entertainment, which takes place on the roof. Consequently, it was very noisy. We had to ask reception on a couple of occasions to have the volume turned down. The food was mediocre, repetetive and there was no great selection. Crockery and cutlery were stained and sometimes less than thoroughly washed. Service in the restaurant and rooftop bar was extremely slow. With one exception, the staff were abrupt to the point of rudeness and rather unhelpful. If you don't notice, you have to pay for your dinner drinks immediately after the meal if you don't open a credit a/c with reception or you face the wrath of the female Maitre D' who dresses as if she's on a slappers' night out. Overall, this is certainly not 4* by anyone's standards and we recommend you give it a miss.
Not bad, no high flyer, but definitly not a 4 star
The hotel is not at seaside, but in a smaller street. Parking is not always evident. Public places: are nice looking and ok (Mostly in Malta the first impression looks always good!). Some automatic machines (dispensers) do not work properly. There are several elevators giving access to different parts of the hotel. If you are with several people in different rooms, I would advise to check that the rooms are in the same part, otherwise you can have a nice walk down and upstairs towards the different parts. Reception: arrived late at evening and it took some time to check in. Only one couple was before me. Probably due that it was the night service. However as Air Malta has flights arriving late from several places in Europe they should take it into consideration. Rooms: were clean and ok in size. A mini fridge (empty) is available. A mini TV without remote is in the room. Surprised by the remark of other reader that only 2 chains were available on it. Several British, CNN, Maltese, Italian even German and the French TV5 (even with less viewing quality this one) were available. A coffee set is in the room. There was a package with 2 tea, 2 Nescafe, 2 sugar and 2 milk items…. But once used not replenished anymore!!! Upon questioning: it is only a “welcome package” after that you should cater yourself! This is a rather childish explanation, worth a 2 star but as they claim to be a 4 star!!!. (no comments) Worse however was the fact that the airco was not working. Upon request at the reception their answer was rather laconic. Or the system is on heating (which was the case even half May with 25 till 30°C) or on airco! So if they switch to airco they cannot come back to heating! They did not change yet to airco as the weather could still change. I have my opinion about that. Annoying is the fact that the door has to be locked each time with the key inside as outside. So you have to close your door of course and ….lock in the dark as you have to put the card with the key in the little holder to have the light turned on! Very convenient!!! (Note: trick is to glide in a carton or plastic card into the holder instead of the card attached to the key. That works perfectly) Bathroom is a little small and clean but hot water direct available. Soap and other items – in fact a dispenser in the bath - provided are at the level of a 2 or max 3 star hotel, not a 4 star. Restaurant: used it only for breakfast. All days the same buffet. Simply fair but not really a 4 star. Note that the percentage water in the juices was rather high. The bacon was slightly “stretching” when trying to cut. Once the few “French breads” were taken, no others added. “First come first served” device! You felt down on the little gummy breads or toasts. Swimming pools were available, but I did not use these and other facilities. This is not the fault of the hotel, but being awakened by terrible automatic hammers and noises of the builders next door at 06:30… Would say I prefer the noise of some singing birds! Conclusion: as others already mentioned this hotel is certainly not a 4 star. It is not really a bad hotel, but it is not a high flyer. Due to the size and facilities it could be a 4 but then they have to increase the style level and service on several items. Let say that a 3 star rate would be a maximum to attribute to this hotel.
Beware !!
This hotel would struggle to make 1 star in the U.K let alone 4! Who regulates these Maltese hotels anyway?? I wish I had studied this sight prior to deciding on the Soreda as we probably wouldn't have gone. We were unfortunately duped into this holiday by so many loss - leaders like 3 days 'free' car hire (actually cost me £28 for the xs waiver & half a tank of petrol) and all inclusive - ha ! Great if you can tolerate stuffing yourself with the same unvaried, re-heated menu day after day ! We eventually got wise and requested packed lunches, which although only simple sandwiches, fruit and water, were ultimately preferable to the slop served up in the under-staffed restaurant. Our party of five often had to sit at separate tables too. Also note the unpublicised bar curfew after 11pm when drinks are no longer free. Three pools, one unused and covered over, one on the roof which had recently been tidied up but was exceptionally cold, and the other in the basement which along with the gym was ok. Not very good for kids as the games room was very limited and they consequently have to make their own entertainment. Very limited satelite 'micro' tv in the rooms.BBC World and a travel programme were the only English speaking channels. The room itself, the hotel staff and the Island in general were the only redeeming features of this ill-fated stay although the water supply could be intermittent and the cleaners invariably left us short on loo rolls and soap - basic items which you would hope to receive in an unrated hostel ! The hotel appears to be operating on a shoestring budget which is a shame as it has the potential to be quite good.
Dont go there
Wouldnt recommend this hotel, wasnt worthy of four star status. Food awfull spent lots of money on eating out although was all inclusive. Rooms very basic no satalite tv in rooms as advertised. Outside areas around pool were dirty. Asked for a fan 3 times as air con not on but was never given one. Only positive thing was the towels were clean and water hot.
Worst Hotel we stayed in
Dear readers. I thought I'd better write this artical, as my party of 4 had a terrible stay at the Soreda Hotel. Firstly I would like to mention that out of the 3 pools the only one open was the indoor pool which was situated under ground, as the other two were being worked on. Infact the pool on the roof was like a building site, and the seating area was covered in brick dust. The other pool on the ground floor was just covered over of which they hadn't started working on (You only get sun there for about 2 hours a day). The only bar open was on the ground floor, which was a dark and gloomy room. The only place to sit out side was two old benches situated at the entrance of the hotel by the road. The food was also very disapointing, the veg was the same all week (Mixed Veg) and the potatoes were re heated from lunch to evening meal. The sweets were also the same all week with not much choice. Salad was just three items. Many people complained and were moved to other hotels, we stayed as we had two older people with us and to re pack would have been another day out of our holiday as we were only there for a week. The staff were very kind and helpful and could not fault them they should be working in a ***** star hotel not a * star hotel, as it's the managment to blame in this situation. My recomendation is to ask others where to stay. We will definately return to Malta as it's a lovely island and the people are great, loving and kind it's also a very safe place. Hire a car and explore this island it's worth it.
Would definitely recommend Malta and the Soreda Hotel!
Hotel is only about 30 mins drive from the airport (costs about £15 in a taxi but buses are also available). Although the hotel does not benefit from ocean views, it is in a much quieter location than the likes of the Suncrest and Qawra Palace which are right on the main road. The staff were exceptionally friendly and made every effort to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The bedrooms are very spacious and balconies are lovely, the bathrooms are clean, but could benefit from better grouting. They are renovating the hotel at every opportunity and so I know that little things like this will be rectified soon. The room contained a great sized fridge which was usefull for storing water and drinks etc. The food in the hotel was lovely, we were all inclusive and could only complain about not being able to try everything. I would definitely recommend the afternoon tea!! There was plenty of variety and it was hot. The lounge bar has light entertainment each evening, either a quiz or music. There is also the piano bar which is quieter. The pool was being re-tiled whilst we were there but the indoor pool was open. The hotel is within easy reach of the bay, local newsagents, bars, restaurants etc. We hired a car too and parking is always easy outside the hotel. All in all I would definitley recommend both Malta and the Soreda Hotel to any one looking for a lovely relaxing holiday with an even mix of sun, sea and sightseeing.
