" Soreda hotel was very good!! "
Submitted By: LaurakeIt was my first time in Malta.
When we arrived on the airport of Malta, there was a bus waiting already to take us to the hotel, the man was very friendly and helped us with our luggage.
When we arrived at the horel everything went perfect, we got the key to our rooms and could go in immediatly.
The room was big enough for me (had a single bedroom, but got 2beds) and very clean.
I did wake up with the noise of the constuctions from the buildings over the hotel.
the breakfast was great (real english breakfast: eggs (all kinds), sausages, bacon but also toast, jam, sandwiches, fruit, yoghurt,..)
my sister wanted a coke in the morning which they usually don't give, but it was no problem to get one for her.
Lunch was also very good, a great selection of food (soup, potatoes, fish, rabbit, chicken, and all kinds of vegetables) when we sat at the table someone came to order our drinks and our dishes were taken away when empty. the staff from the restaurant was very friendly and helpfull (thanks to all :) )
Diner was, again, great! so much food, you had to taste it all!
i read on other reviews that the food was horrble, burnt and always the same, let me tell you it was not true!! the meat was so tender you didnt even have to use a knife.
but it is true that you don't have much of a choice with deserts, its always cake or fruit or jelly, but the cakes(pie) were delicious!!
every evening there was something to do in the hotel at the bar.
you could sing karaoke, there was a DJ, piano player and singer, ...
the bar staff was very friendly and fun, thanks to Mathew (he did have mood swings but most of the time he was smiling and making us laugh!) and the other staff from the bar!
(i recommend a blue curracao with orange, very good!!)
the hotel itself was clean and when we had a problem it was solved pretty fast.
Our rooms were cleaned every day, thanks again to the cleaing staff :)
when we were ready to go home, we were picked up at the hotel and dropped of at the airport, always on time!
i do recommend when you want to go on tours, to do it with Angie (she has a shop in one of the streets not far from the hotel and has a dog named Jack) she arranged all our tours and we were not dissapointed! she is friendly and helpfull and honest!
so for all the people who had a bad time in the Soreda hotel, don't be so picky and just enjoy your vacation!!!
I do have to tell you it's not perfect when you have little children (not much to do for them)
I loved it and would go back to the Soreda if i go to Malta.
Thanks to all the staff from the Sorda hotel.

" Pinch of salt "
Submitted By: feu657As soon as we arrived, we noticed a lot of changes. The décor in the reception lobby area had changed considerably – It looked more elegant.
After registration we made our way to our room. The hotel must have had a refurbishment process in place because the corridors and our room were designed in different colour schemes to what we knew. I must say that we were very pleasantly surprised.
I understand that hotels age quickly because of the volumes of tourists and turnover of the rooms.
The Dining Room also has undergone some change. Pleased to see that the carpet has been removed and new Table linen displayed.
Our room was cleaned daily and bed linen and towels were changed regularly and when we asked for the fridge to be stocked as a mini-bar. Service was great. Housekeeping staff were brilliant.
We prefer to seek out our own entertainment but there were a couple of occasions when we lingered to see what it was like. Karaoke, disco dancing and Maltese folklore: Not exactly our cup of tea. But most residents seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many Maltese also come to be entertained on a Saturday evening. This made the place very busy but it also gave us an opportunity to chat with a few of the locals. Such a small island and nearly 400,000 of them!
We had a room facing into the courtyard and some of the balconies are very close with each other. It would have been a bonus to have a room with a view. Having said that my idea of going on holiday is to swim, go out, explore and meet the locals, and should I wish to chill on the balcony, I am usually reading.
The swimming pool was good. Initially there was a shortage of sun-loungers, so we asked at reception and the matter was solved. The pool is not massive and I would imagine that in the peak of summer it would be extremely busy. However, because I am not keen on late morning or early afternoon bathing, when the heat gets unbearable, the pool was nice and quiet.
Because we have been on holidays before we know that some hotels employs a two-week menu rota. Although it is not the Petrus by Gordon Ramsay, it is absolutely fresh, tasty with a good selection one would expect from a buffet restaurant.
One thing that was annoying initially was the construction goings-on nearby. In the same breath I have to say that unfortunately, on this little island, there are construction sites in many of the touristy areas, including Sliema and Bugibba and also in the inner towns and cities
Having read some reviews, we were a apprehensive, however, there were occasions where I have seen tourists behaving badly and shamefully.
Dear holiday maker, I would urge you to read any review with a pinch of salt.

Submitted By: sandylynnRefurbishment works were going on each day such as painting, and guests had to walk around workmen. The building work will be going on for the forseeable future.
Considering the amount of money that I paid for this holiday, I expected far more.
There is very little for children to do and very few bars and restaurants in the area.
At least we experienced Malta as we were forced to go out most days for peace!
" Had a lovely time Thank you "
Submitted By: didi30Our room was always left clean and tidy by the housekeeping staff. The room was very comfortable, with all the mod cons, spacious, welcoming and clean. We felt very secure and cared for.
The staff in reception were exceptionally helpful and informative.
Special thanks go to Claude and his assistant at the Bar, who were always so cheerful, friendly and polite.
Dinner was something to look forward to. Complements to the Chef and his team for setting up such wonderful and tasty meals.
Lastly, a big thank you to the staff in the Housekeeping department. They do a wonderful job in the rooms. Highly commendable
We definately will be going back!

Submitted By: Mrs L AndrewsI did not think that the hotel was as shabby as some people have made out, yes the carpets are pretty worn out but so what how much time do you spend in the corridors!
Our room was probably one of the best in the hotel luckily. we were on fifth floor so used the lifts constantly but room 541 was great. It did look over building site but this in no way interfered with us, but our balcony was huge enough for sunbeds and tables and chairs and still loads of space. We had great views, one way we could see Mosta Dome and the other way we could just about see the sea. Our room was very clean no problems here at all.
I am really pleased that we only opted for half board as must admit would have hated to have been tied to the hotel as the evening entertainment was pretty dire and gave you drinks in plastic cups and also there are that many bars locally why would you want to stay there for 2 weeks. We used the Queens head just by hotel most days and the drinks are reasonable and place had good atmosphere. There was a constant supply of snacks also which was very nice. There are also many other bars near by a few we used that we found good were Welcome (especially for quiz nights) Dianas & We Five (again snacks all the time).
The food was OK, breakfast was better than evening meal. Although there was always plenty of choice for evening meal I still struggled as sometimes the meat was not of the best quality and the standard of the cooking was a bit poor. The was a good salad selection and soup was usually ok too. It could not have been that bad though as we did eat there every night
As for peoples complaints about the pool areas I have to disagree, think the roof top pool was fine maybe a bit split up as I like to be sociable but only once could we not get a bed and we dont go up until at least 11am and on this occasion we did not mind too much as as I said had sunbeds on our balcony. We did not use the downstairs pool until last day but wished we had before because yes although partially in shade there is always a sunny bit you just need to keep moving, and also some people prefer shade anyway. I did not think it was particularly dirty either.
Overall I think the Soreda was not too bad at all and if I decided to go back to that area of Malta may even stay there again as at least I would know what to expect. If the food was sorted and maybe the carpets in the corridors this hotel would be fine. I still do not think the all inclusive is worth it though and we were better off half board.

Submitted By: Miss N KingThe general state of the hotel looked in desperate need of repair / remodernisation, carpets in corridors were dirty and patched, and just generally shabby.
Amazed at how this hotel could be classed as a 4 star facilities were poor and misinformed. The roof top bar had been advised as being open all day but however closed early evening. The second pool on the ground floor was very shabby and gets no sun light.
The food was basic but generally ok. The waiter service was very slow for drinks and did not find the staff particularly friendly or helpful.
There were no children facilities and would recommended that families with children avoid this hotel. Evening entertainment was very poor best described as a man with a keyboard very dull the only highlight was the fireworks will saw in the distance.
We would not recommend this hotel to anyone and certainly would not want to endure their environment again.
This is not a whinge but a genuine opinion of my families personal experience and feel that the star rating should be changed to a 2 to reflect the standard and environment of the hotel and give people more of an idea as to what to expect.
" For the amount of money that my mum... "
Submitted By: Miss L FieldUpon arrival we were told our room would be ready in an hour so we hung around in the "restaurant" which was a dark and dindgy room with no windows where the food was oily and really not appetizing. 4 hours later (and 3 attempts of asking) and our room was finally ready.
When we walked in I could of cried. The staff were so unhelpful and my mum (who has just had surgery) and I lugged our cases to the room with no offer of help. Outside our room there were 3 beds stacked there for some reason, which was a huge fire hazard. Our curtains which looked like shower curtains, didn't even meat in the middle and the decor which matched the rest of the hotel was in a 70s dirty green time warp. Even when we finally entered our room some man was in there on a ladder fixing something. There was mold around the toilet which was really quite disgusting.
As we left to go to "dinner" we discovered our door did not lock!!!!! You could easily push it open!! I am very petite in size so I repeatedly explained to the manager that this was completely unacceptable! He kept trying to assure me that no one would break into out room as they had security cameras but we did not feel comfortable just leaving our room unattended like this. After waiting nearly 2 hours and nearly missing "dinner" the manager finally came to watch our room so we could go down and eat. The same food that was out at lunch appeared again at dinner. Need I say anymore?
To top it all off we also had no air con. They supplied us with a noisy fan that circulated warm air and kept us up all night while we slept on what were practically slacks of wood. The pool water was unclean and foul with no sunbathing space around it. The pool toilet facility you had to climb up decrepit wooden stairs over the boiler area to get to. There was a constant water leak around the bar area also. Which closed between 6pm and 9pm for some reason.
I cannot stress enough how bad this hotel was and how unhappy we were. It is NOTHING LIKE that which is displayed on the website. The travel agent we booked through was unsuccessful in moving us, so on the second afternoon we moved ourselves. If we had not got into another hotel we would've gone home as it was such an unpleasant experience for the large sum of money that we paid. We have stayed in countless hotels all over the world and have NEVER complained or had a single bad experience prior to this.
The hotel we moved to could not be praised more and the service was fantastic so at least our view of Malta is not totally tainted now from our horror experience. I urge anyone to not make the same mistake we did and be misled by the website!!!!! We are taking legal action to get our money back on this disaster.
" This should be graded as a basic 3... "

Submitted By: Mrs T SmithWhen we arrived we had to walk through the bar near the dining room. The carpets were very dirty and smelly. The room was nice and clean. Our room overlooked other balonies, they seem to cram as many rooms in as possible.
The next morning after a nice breakfast we went to the lower outside pool. I have never seen a pool in such a bad state, it was dirty and had chipped paint around and inside the pool. We then found the roof pool which was a lot better but the water was still not very clean. Be carefull at night as there is no lighting around this pool and very dangerous.
The staff in the hotel are very nice, the food was good but the location was a bit quiet and dirty.
Iwill not be returning to Malta and if I did I would not return to this hotel but I would like to see this service from the staff in every hotel I stay in.
It is only the staff that made this holiday enjoyable.

Advice: Excellent value but take the 4 atar rating with a pinch of salt.
