Santana Hotel Reviews
" Completely disappointing hotel,... "
Submitted By: Mrs CH WhalleyBooked one week holiday at premium price to ensure good hotel and facilities as travelling with small children but have stayed in better 2 star hotels.
Room filthy on arrival, my 1 yr old daughter black in colour after crawling on floor. Bedroom and facilities tired and old, pillows underneath linen were disgusting as were mattresses. Outdoor pool small and filthy and the majority of sun loungers broken.
Highchairs and cot were all old and dirty definitely had seen better days.
Visited two 4*star hotels in same area which definitely were 4* star; this hotel was very poor in comparison. Air conditioning non existent, room system completely inadequate.
All in all, very poor standard and definitely not worth the money.

The food was excellent and varied with plenty of choice for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The indoor spa pool was good but not very warm, on the plus side
you could relax in the steam room or have a massage.
We looked at a hotel round the corner and were shocked at the squalled conditions. Our room included air con and fridge at no extra cost.
We will be back again ASAP.

All inclusive option excellent.

Submitted By: Mr R RaceIf the only bad thing you can say about a hotel is that some of the sun loungers round the pool are getting a bit tatty, you know you’re not going to go far wrong.
We had a warm welcome on arrival and were impressed with the public areas in the hotel, all really clean.
Our room was a decent size (ask for high floor with a sea view) the beds were comfy and the air con is chucked in free, unlike some places that want deposits for remote controls and stuff. There is a small charge for use of the fridge in the room (about £4 for a week LOL).
We were half board; the food was a good standard with plenty of choice, always a good choice of meats, fish, and pasta salads. The breakfast wasn’t bad either! The dining room is nice too and the service from the staff was excellent, very organised, friendly, and polite.
Shame there’s no outdoor eating area connected to this but who goes on holiday to spend ages sat in a hotel dining room?
If you do eat out I highly recommend the Kuala Lumpur Chinese restaurant 10 min walk away in Buggiba. The food there was absolutely delicious, better than any English Chinese I've ever had and loads cheaper too!
If you like loads of night life catch the bus to paceville in st Julian’s, about 2o mins away, was really surprised how many bars and clubs there were and how cheap all the drinks are. The area around the Santana is quiet but again its only 10 min walk to Buggiba, the bus terminus is round the corner and taxis are dirt cheap.
We hired a jeep, which is honestly the best option, if you want to get out and about properly hiring anything less is a waste of time.
The roads aren’t great and if you’re a bit more adventurous and like the scenic routes you’ll find yourself off roading by accident in no time! Be prepared and don’t look like a tight arsed fool in a Daewoo matiz, you’ll miss the best bits of Malta!
All in all the hotel is great, in a great location, and Malta is good for a week’s holiday. Honestly, have no doubts in booking the Santana hotel it’s really nice, I'd definitely go back.
ENJOY! Rich.

Submitted By: Mrs M ReidThe location of this hotel is perfect, just being round the corner from the bus station where you can get a bus to take you all over this lovely island.
The hotel itself was excellent food was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Maid service was great towels changed every day and room left clean.
Qawra itself was lovely. Would go back to Santana Hotel again as we enjoyed it so much.
Only complaint was the entertainment as it was not very great and hopeless having it up at the rooftop bar, as when its windy you get blown away.

Submitted By: Mr S & T Wollschlager & KoleDirty hotel with dirty carpets. In the bathroom was a toilet brush that had not been
cleaned for months. Smell was atrocious and the sight of it was appalling. To save the
maid her job we put it in a plastic bag and dumped it.
We booked this hotel because it had a fitness room. What a joke. 2 rusty pedal machines, and 2 equally rusty running machines, the latter not working. I don’t believe they had worked for many years.
All the four machines had obviously been dumped there just for the sake of saying they had a fitness room. I complained and they said they knew they were broken and would fix them in 48 hours. Needless to say there still not operative. They could have come from a shipwreck they were so bad.
Breakfast time next. Everything so bland. and overcooked. One toast machine blowing smoke so bad I believe it was older than the Malta buses. An old knife stuck together with black tape was the tool to get the toast out with.
Indoor swimming pool always cold .What’s the point? Apparently it is seldom heated, to save electricity I suppose. 4 star hotel Don’t make us laugh. NIGHTMARE.

Submitted By: Mr R BlairAccommodation was very clean with maid service each day.
Only let down was the entertainment, which tended to be local singers and Karaoke, we went with our two kids age 22 and 18, and they found it boring.
But we really enjoyed the area, right next to a bus station we jumped on a bus and travelled the island each day, which saved a lot of money.
Only tour we went on was Horn Blower which takes you to the Blue Lagoon for a 3 hour sun bathe which was a nice relaxing day out.
We are going back to the same hotel this September for 2 weeks, as we felt we missed a lot and a week is not enough time to explore the island.

Submitted By: Ms J ReidUnfortunately there were no tea making facilities in the room, but I think you could have them for an extra fee. The beds were two single beds pushed together and there were blankets and spare pillows in the wardrobe.
The restaurant was large and nicely decorated and the tables were laid and looked lovely. The food on offer was varied with something to suit most peoples taste and the service was very good. We went all inclusive, but there was some confusion as to what that meant, as it wasn't very well explained to us.
The hotel has two swimming pools, one indoors and one on the roof. The rooftop one was closed at the time we went because the weather isn't warm enough in March, but we did use the indoor one. The pool was warm enough and the size was pretty good, my only complaint was lack of changing rooms, there wasn't any!
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Santana, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the location was perfect. We would highly recommend it as a place to stay in Malta.
" This was my "bargain bucket" deal, I... "
Submitted By: Mrs J EdwardsIt was a spacious room, and although clean, the decor looked old and the carpets looked dirty, and I was so cold on the first night we arrived that I had to put the towels on the bed for extra warmth!
Not much of a view - room at the back of the hotel overlooking waste ground.
Breakfast was a buffet feast, and whilst I am not a breakfast eater, as there were no facilities in the room, we went down for morning "coffee".
It was an eye opener to see the "older" guests, who I am told were "long stay winter guests" (who come for upwards of 4 weeks in the winter season) on B&B or half board basis, sneakily filling up their bags and pockets with breakfast!!
Presumably in order to save money later in the day, despite all the signs indicating that food must not be removed from the restaurant.
The hotel is centrally located and a few minutes walk to the bus terminal. Buses are cheap and easy to use and the island is so small that even if you were to get lost, you could quite easily get in a taxi back!
There is no real "beach" just a rocky outcrop, but there is a nice promenade to walk near the sea.
It was very early in the season and so lots of bars and restaurants were shut.
The capital Valletta is a vibrant place; there are many museums and churches to visit.
Would go back to Malta, maybe in high season, but would probably try a better hotel.

Submitted By: Mrs C LindgrenWe go every year and will continue to go there, having been to other hotels and found them absolutely awful. Qawra itself we do not like, but we hire a car and go off to some beautiful places, in particular can recommend Mgarr (Charley’s restaurant) for a good quality Maltese meal, also Mellieha in particular the sanctuary open between 9-11 a.m.
For the children Malta is not the ideal place, but they enjoyed water world and the beaches in Mellieha. Have already booked for 2007.

Submitted By: Miss K.L SurteesThe area was quite quiet and most of the pubs were quiet too. This made it a bit boring for me. I would go back to this hotel but more in the summer or if I had to go in Easter, I would take a friend.
I would recommend it to older people more than younger couples. But definitely take a bus ride.

Submitted By: Miss D ReidWeather was gorgeous. Choice of holiday gifts was very limited, possibly not the most happening of places but well worth a visit. No sandy beaches but thankfully the hotel had a pool.

The hotel Santana is worthy of its four star status with brilliant accommodation, excellent staff who are only concerned you enjoy your holiday. Food was excellent with a great range of choice.
Within minutes of the sea and many excellent bars and restaurants. Pool and sun lounge areas are spotlessly clean and tidy with great shaded areas for the very warm temperatures in the middle of the day.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Malta. Also suggest you take note of these reviews having checked on some of them whilst there. They are for real.
